Get Gerard?

Sounds a lot like Get Smart but in the Army... Could be fun enough I guess but I can't imagine why Carell would want to do something so similar to a role he just played.

Time to pull back from those kind of rolls if he doesn't want to become a caricature (think Chevy Chase).
And still no Inglourious Basterds info..

Yes, I spelt that right apparently, as one of the pieces of news going round about this movie is the name change from Inglorious Bastards to the one in the subject line. come on AICN where's the skinny?

The books are hilarious. About 20 short stories set through the Napoleonic area. Gerade himself is a kind of Clouseau. The difference being he sin’t all talk…he actually is an amazing swordsman, lover and leader of men…he just isn’t very bright. I think Carell could be great in this role. Blades of Glory was decidedly mediocre though.

Is car dealer radio commercials. Blades of Glory? That thing should've written itself. And they still managed to screw it up.

that someone decided to turn into a feature length. Just ill conceived on so many levels. The only part that was inspired was the skate chase. Other than that, it's 90 minutes of my life I'm not getting back.

Royal Flash, with Malcolm McDowell, directed by Richard Lester. Not great, not terrible. This one sounds like it will be Maxwell Smart or Inspector Clouseau with a sword. I am beginning to fear for Steve Carell's career.

He wasn't even funny in The Daily Show and they have good writers.
Agreed that Blades of Glory seemed like an SNL skit that should've stayed on the small screen.

The stories are wonderful but the key to them, the heart of them, is something that they certainly will not get (much like they wouldn't get Clouseau). Gerard is NOT a buffoon. He is a heroic, honourable, and very cool character. Yes, he has misadventures, mostly brought about by his overconfidence and zeal, but the stories are told from his point of view. Gerard is so full of himself that his errors are glossed over in his effort to make himself look good but... and here is the part that they won't get... the man is so charismatic and fun and adventurous that you forgive all of his bravado. If they do it right, the comedy in Gerard is not such that you laugh at him or are slapping your knee. You smile quietly, politely to yourself and think "Oh my. Our Poor Hussar has done it again." It is in all the wrong hands.

Two things are required to give these stories the treatment that they deserve: Good taste and a Romantic soul. Neither of those things are seen as qualities by Hollywood screenwriters.

sounds like an awesome concept that could have been brilliantly done in the 1930's in a Gunga Din fashion. I am sure that it will be dumbed down, the character will be an idiot, there will be lots of fart jokes etc. Hollywood just doesn't get that era any more.

Flash was a brilliant fighter, but was a selfish coward. If he was backed into a corner he would fuck you up...but he would much rather run away and bang your wife.
