Admit it, the minute you saw Terrence Howard on TV tryingto spin his acting into singing a la Jamie Foxx, your respect for him as an actor went down a little.

Oh well, now I can hope they cast Chiwetel Ejiofor as the Black Panther in the Avengers so we can have another Ejiofor/ Cheadle movie. They lit up every scene of Talk To Me they had together.

PS-Speaking Of Continuity Issues For Iron Man

They just need to write out the character and cast a new actor as a similiar influence on Tony Stark. The Powers That Be at WB should have done the same thing with the character Rachael from Batman. Continuity problems brought about by unnecessary cast changes aways make me lose interest in the films where such issues occur.

I think Howard may have requested to much money. I don't fault the guy, and IM was a hit and his agent probably went after more then he's worth. I like Howard and he's a good actor but he not box office draw. He's a good supporting character actor. Now will he ever be leading man, box office draw material? Probably not, but me thinks he's a stable career in the future. Don Cheadle taking over??? Well he certainly is a better actor but talk about a total jump. At least get an actor similar enough looking to Howard like that Efitol whatever his name is from Serenity, but Cheadle works good to.

Toby didn't hold out. His back was hurt from an injury he received filming Seabiscuit. Sony said they wanted to hit their release date, and they wouldn't start filming late just so Toby would have time to recover. Either Toby did the film with a bad back, or if he couldn't do it, then he would be recast.

Cheadle has better range and is a much more experienced actor. I did hear that there were many promises made to Terrence Howard regarding his role in Iron Man 2. A large bump in screen time and a guarantee to portray War Machine were likely put on the table. Then the "x"-factor of the incredible performance of the first film. His agent probably swung for the fences on this deal assuming he could get Terrance something in the neighborhood of what RDJ is getting. Cheadle is a fantastic actor... but I'd like to see WB work this out with Howard. If we must accept a casting change then at the very least they gave us a great actor to fill the role.

Don Cheadle is a hack because of The Rat PAck movie? are you stoned?

how about Traffic? how about Hotel Rwanda where he completely disappeard into the role? how about Reign Over ME, where he took a really complex part in a pretty mediocre film and completely elevated it? how about his hilarious performances in the Oceans movies? how about how he just KILLED an amazing part in Trator, that could easily have been pretty run of the mill? he made a murderous gangster hilarious in Out of Sight. he even did well on fucking ER, for christ sake.

god, you've got to be really attention starved to call out don cheadle as overrated. I guess I shouldn't be encouraging you. just like a toddler, if you act out, I should just ignore it, and maybe you won't do it again.

Because, and I may be wrong here, I'm pretty sure Iron Man made a buttload at the box office, and there's no question that fans of the first movie are fucking dying to for the second. So, provided they script is solid, Iron Man 2 should be just as big a success, if not moreso. Where they run into trouble is when they start screwing with the cast and replacing people because they don't want to give them their fair cut.

Personally, I don't hate that they recast Katie Holmes, because she never should have been cast in the first place. (Sorry, Nolan, but you definitely dropped the ball there.) I only wish Nolan saw how wrong she was in the role during Batman Begins and found a replacement then, particularly if the character was meant to be a recurring face in future installments. But, you know, her's is still a relatively small piece of a greater picture, so it's not quite as jarring as, say, recasting Alfred or Gordon. And there's no WAY they'd ever get away with recasting Bruce Wayne at this point.

It was hilarious for Sony to even consider, much less threaten, replacing Tobey. If you want to instantly kill your blossoming franchise, the surest way to do it is by jerking viewers around by swapping out the lead - especially when the first movie was such a huge success that the actor has officially become the face and voice of that main character.

Of course, at the end of the day, the studio is going to screw things up however they see fit, just to save a few bucks. Only, they apparently never learn that the few bucks they save by cutting corners now is really going to cost them in the long run. Dumbasses.

Continuity in movie series
by Continentalop
Oct 14th, 2008
02:45:28 AM
If anything this should serve as a reminder to any movie that plans to do a series to one of three things: A) sign all actors to reappear in any sequels before the first movie is made (such as they did in the original Superman movies and the Spider-Man series); B) cast an actor who is not a star to the part so you don’t have to worry about excessive demands (such as they did with J.J. Jamison by casting J.K. Simmons); or C) don’t have a major character appear unless he is essential to the current story - especially if you decide to fill the part with a star because stars are egotistical and don’t like playing second banana to anyone. I imagine it annoyed Howard to no end to read how everyone went nuts for Downey’s hedonistic Stark while his by-the-book Rhodes was thought of as “adequate”. Better to have saved him for a latter date. I love Jim Rhodes, and I love how he took over for Tony Stark in the comics, but I don’t think the character was that essential in the first movie. Another character could have served the same purpose, to act as Tony Stark’s conscience. Hell, Happy Hogan could have served that purpose (and in the comics he did have a crush on Pepper Potts). And as any old-time Iron Man fan knows, James Rhodes didn’t appear until 1979, 16 years after Iron Man first debuted.

This comment will ultimately sound small but I'll say it anyway; isn't Cheadle a little scrawny for Rhodes? I guess a trip to the gym (or several dozen) can fix that, but physically he doesn't seem to have it. But yeah, Howard's Rhodes was definitely was one of the things I didn't like too much about Iron Man. I couldn't quite figure out if it was the way the character was scripted or his acting. I mean, RDJ, Gwynnie and Bridges hit their respective roles out of the park. I'm pretty sure Cheadle will hold his own against RDJ. His Paul Rusesabagina (ha, I spelled the whole thing) was haunting.

I never said Cheadle was a hack because of his lousy performance in "The Rat Pack." Everybody was bad in that movie, with the exception of Angus Macfadyen. So perhaps I was out of line for calling him a hack, but I don't think I'm overstepping my bounds when I say he's overrated. I've got no love for him as an actor. I've always found him kind of irritating, to be honest. And I hate him in the OCEAN'S movies. But then I hate those movies in general.

I know I sound like I've got some sort of personal vendetta against the guy, like maybe he buttfucked my dog or something, but I think the anger in my post stems more from wanting to see continuity preserved here. And, as I said, if they have to replace Howard I'd rather they go with somebody like Chiwetel Ejiofor, who I think is a better actor and somebody I actually like. So I guess there's a personal bias here.

Also, I'm not stoned, starved for attention or trying to bait anybody here and I resent the comparison to those YouTube fuckers. Still, I'll commend you for that awesome pwning you gave me.

And, seriously, when are we gonna stop with this bullshit about actors "disappearing" into roles? Like how everybody refers to Chris Cooper as a "chameleon." I think he's a good actor and all, but I've watched him in a movie and later somebody pointed out to me that "Hey, that was Chris Cooper" and I was like, "What? You're shitting me! Really?" Now I'll give Ledger credit for THE DARK KNIGHT. I tried telling myself it was Heath Ledger, but it was tough. Also, Dylan Baker in PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. So it's pretty much just those two guys and possibly Brando.

Mostly Ledger and Baker, though. Those guys. They're going places.

Wont be that missed, REALLY

I don’t think the studio fucked themselves or the fans or continuity at all. Rhodes was miscast in the first film, he had less than ten minutes total screen time, oh well. I don’t know what Howard was going for with Rhodes, but I wasn’t feeling it. Don could come in fill things in nicely. I hear all this “fuck Marvel” jazz, but look at it from their view, they are a new studio, only two flicks under their belt, not as much funding as the big guys and a full slate of movies that are gonna cost a butt load to make. They may have wanted to come out swinging in negotiations to show the actor’s that they’re gonna have limited sway on their contracts and if you push Marvel on money, they needed to put their foot down hard to set an example… Howard was just the first one to try it. Bad advice there pal, sorry. I think Cheadle is a great actor and will be fine as Rhodey. I love Chiwetel Ejiofor and truly he would have been my first choice, but I really think he’d be wasted on Rhodey, when he would rock balls as Black Panther.

by nerosday

Also I don’t know how much of what Downey and Howard had was chemistry and how much was Favreau’s Robert Altman style directing where the characters are filmed in an active chaotic scene and are to rapid fire their dialog, overlapping what they say while interacting with those around them, ala all of Altman’s M*A*S*H (the movie not the show) and a good Iron Man example would be the Plane scene. That way of blocking a scene just makes it seem more natural, especially if you have very good actors, but the scenes of Downey and Howard one on one lacked a spark.

Pay the man his money. People pay you to see the stars. As far as the public is concerned, the cameras just follow the actors around and film them. You can have all the effects and production quality you want, but people will only pay to see the actors.
And Actors want too much sometimes.

Look I am not trying to sound like a studio defending douche, and believe me were this not Marvel, I would not be defending them at all, but I'm sure Howard signed on for more than one movie, and had a set price he had agreed to, if he wants to say "no, the movie got serious bank last time and I want more." If his salary is set and he won't agree to the signed upon terms, oh, well... you're fired. Imagine going to the bosses office and asking for a raise, and saying if you don't get it you won't come to work tomorrow until you do. Well in the normal world you'd get fired too. They say "no raise yet." you either say okay or look for work somewhere that will pay you what you want.

I was paying to see Iron Man. I pay to see a movie, I goddamn well better have a performance so good infornt of me that I don't think, "Wow Terrance is great!" I want to think, "Damn Rhodey is bad ass." The idea of paying to see a star is why movie stars and sport stars get paid these enormous fucking salaries when in the past it was more for love of the craft. Why do you think the best actors are the supporting guys like Cheadle and Downey? They never got paid enough to get spoiled like Pitt and Clooney and stop trying. They got paid enough to live comfortably, but stuck with it because they loved acting, not their pay checks

Think of the future dumbshit, War Machine spinoff, quick cash-in for studio, hefty paycheck... Ed Norton was famously difficult to work with -- how many more Hulk movies is he going to be around for? Continuity of actors only works for sci-fi franchises that were long-running TV series first, because those folks know the value of a regular paycheck and they have no other film career to jump off into.

Tobey brings nothing to the role and nobody would give a shit if they recast him, he doesn't play spidey or peter parker. it's different to the way the public has latched onto Bale as Batman, that is the face of Batman. But that's because he is Batman and actually plays Batman. Recasting Bale would have a huge impact but it wouldn't be the same for Tobey.

I'm still a believer in the idea of not rebooting Spider-Man, but just moving on in part 4; new cast and director, that is not going to happen now, but man I wish it would have. Tobey isn't a bad peter, I just wish he didn't have to cry or dance in every single freakin film. MJ has always been miscast in Dunst. And Tobey has never been Spidey, and they've never written a true Spidey, where's the smart ass, non stop staccato chatter that drives the bad guys nuts. I don't always think reboots are need, just a knod and a wink and moving on in a different direction, we're all smart enough to follow. Complete one story line with one cast and then feel free to mix things up a bit, and pass the torch.

bridges and howard aren't really to blame though. the writing for their parts was suspect. same with Paltrow, she did what she could with what they gave her. but she was little more than the standard background fluff for fanboys.

It's a publicity stunt. She wants to seem or feel like she's 'above it alll, dahling', and only THEN realizes that the earth does not stop turning when a spoiled, overpaid, little brit wannabe bitch actress decides to "quit" the business. The audience very likely has more important things to worry about like, oh, I don't know... the total collapse of the world economy?

I used to like her as an actress, and then I saw her on the Daily Show, where ANYTHING, I swear, ANYTHING Stewart asked, she'd feign incredulity, as if it's so inappropriate to ask anything remotely personal ON A FUCKING CABLE TALK SHOW. I hate celebrities that overestimate their own importance in that way, or when their want for privacy is really transparent. There are very few who are serious about it - Kubrick comes to mind... and Warren Beatty. Nicholson has never done a talk show. But then there are the celebrities who call for privacy while living at the foot of Rodeo drive, hanging out at all the hollywood clubs every weekend, and doing talk shows even when they have nothing to promote.

And another thing that pissed me off about her appearance on the Daily Show (and also his hosting of the Oscars) is that even though his humor is self-deprecating, he really is the more famous guy in the room and probably more important. It's funny sometimes when celebrities don't realize where they sit on the totem pole. I remember hearing on Howard Stern once that for those who think they're too famous to be on the show or who are considering it but want to be wooed, Baba Booey would send 'the Paul McCartney tape', where he basically laid out shit about Yoko and Michael Jackson that he'd never talked about publicly. It seemed to be a way of saying, 'Yeah... on the grand scale of art, you're very likely not as important as Lennon and McCartney, so fuckin' get over yourself.' Ok... rant over. And btw, I think Howard was the only weak link in Iron Man.

I don't know where the idea that soldiers and military men are these great massive walls of Ahnold like mass and beef come from. I was a WO and flew a UH-60 for six years in the Army and have transported any and all forms of Infantry, Rangers, SF, SAR, you name it. These guys are not tanks; they are pretty average looking, most green Berets look like track and field guys not weight lifters, and when you think of what they do, you can see why. It's a lot easier to blend in if your average and nondescript looking than Ahnold, and a lot easier to get the hell out of dodge and trudge through the hills if you don't weigh 250lbs before you get the gear on, you know? Rhodey is USAF, a fighter jock, those guys are smaller, and they take the G's better for being smaller. You don't see many pilots over 6'2" really. I am 6' and I was squished in the 60. This is insane. When I saw "Iron Man" 3 times in theaters, the audience roared with anticipation when Terrence Howard saw the War Machine armour and said "Next time, baby!" That's one of the biggest things exiting poles showed audiences most wanted to see in the sequel. Surely the studio knew he would ask for more money to take a bigger role in the sequel. How much are we talking about here? This franchise (at least for one more film) is a sure thing cash cow. First Fav has problems with the studio and his return is briefly in doubt, then this? Marvel got REALLY lucky their first time at bat as a studio, and I hope they appreciate that. What's next? Replace Downey Jr. for someone cheaper? This sucks.

Chiwetel Ejiofor he be great in the role too..actually I think he is better than any name I dropped in my post..one of my favorite actors currently out there, but I would love to see him as The Black Panter or maybe the John Stewart GL. And I stand by my assertion, that it isn't about size. There's a certain demeanor or gait/walk in members of the military. Same with cops. My cousin is a cop, and it's the same 'demeanor' thing. But we're not talking about reality anyway. Cheadle's performance as Rhodes, as a man of action, has to come across on a 50 foot plus screen in a visual way.

I agree clasicly Rhodey has always been portrayed as a very large guy, who is physically much more imposing than Tony Stark, but realisticly there are two things from the first film that really don’t lead a beefier actor to portray Rhodey; one: Rhodey is a Lt. Col USAF, that’s a high rank for someone in their late thirties like Howard, though it is not unheard of, it is rare. Second there are the limitations of building a suit that will allow a large physically powerful man like, say Michael Jai White who is only a year older than Howard, to move and function are going to be limiting just in the engineering of it. That is why the most successful actors in the FX business who do regularly wear full body prosthetics tend to be these slim guys like Doug Jones, and Downey for that matter. War Machine is meant to be a bulkier, more heavily armed and armored version of the Iron Man armor and making the armor bigger on an already larger actor is going to be awkward and lead to a more heave use of CG which I personally hate. I’m willing to take a smaller older Rhodey, to pull off the WM armor as a practical, more realistic effect.

but it is very distracting/annoying, even if it involves a minor character like Rhodes. As bad as Katie Holmes was in Batman Begins, they should have brought her back or not used her character at all in Dark Knight. Memo to Terrance Howard: when you're stuck doing direct-to-video shlock like Starship Troopers VIII in a few years, you're going to wish you backed off on your salary demands for Iron Man 2...

There was something about a miscarriage. Which is a hugely terrible thing to happen to any woman. anyhoo. She seemed really pissed off when asked. she didnt release a statement to clarify the situation. I think she went on Oprah. there was stuff about her marriage. Chris Martin can be volatile. These are two of the most boring people on plant earth. But she wasnt all that bad in Iron Man. She is the only actress who doesnt burn up the box office. She could retire and nobody would really notice.

it always sucks in my opinion but sometimes exceptions can be made (like Katie Holmes being replaced in Batman). i dont like this though, i thought Terrence Howard did well enough in his role and having Cheadle replace him just dosen't feel right...for one they look NOTHING alike in my opinion and finding someone to at least resemble the former actor IS important. oh well, its a bummer and if i was Howard id just screw and it and take what i can get...i mean is War Machine dammit, it would be hella cool to portray that character...sometimes actors need to look past their paycheck (come on...they are already loaded anyway) and just have fun with these roles.

and I said something very similar on the Cap casting postings the other day, but I can let the military command aura slip more with Rhodey than I could with say Cap, but Cheadle has the chops to pick that up in his performance, but I agree command gives a guy a certain authoritarian dignity that he carries with him and effects the way he holds himself, his speech, walk, there is a preciseness to it that you don’t see outside of ranking military men. I saw it in my grandfather who was a retired Marine Col.

I think he's waaay more suited (no pun intended) for Rhodey than Howard who, in my opinion, does more emotional roles better. Cheadle certainly can do emotional, but he can do bad-assness way better than Howard. He will have to bulk up a bit - he's kind of a small guy. Now, Chiwetel Ejiofor, he's awesome, but I'm hoping they save him for an awesome Black Panther movie - but NOT as a Fantastic Four spinoff, despite the character's origins. Anyway, he'd be awesome for T'Challa. Suck it, Wesley!

I agree with the folks who said there's something fishy here. Howard was almost assuredly contractually obligated to appear. I wonder if they just out and out fired him to get an actor with a bigger better name. Backstory is useful: The part of Pepper Potts was originally going to be played by someone else (I don't remember who and am too lazy to google dig for the info) but when Ms. Paltrow expressed interest, they fired the actress and gave the part to her instead.

Marvel holds the ace card at this point in time in the movie industry. SUper Hero movies are HUGE right now, they are the new hot thing. And if an actor wants to be in a big budget Hero movie thats gonan sell tickets and make them huge, then They have to go to marvel at this point (since im sure marvel isnt gonan sell the character rights to any other studios anymore to make there movies.) With Warner owning the rights to all DC properties, and Marvel now producing its own properties with the next batch going through paramount, this is almost harkening back to the old Marvel vs. DC days, only now with potentially billions of dollars at stake. The old friendly competition that Marvel and DC have had through most of my life time may devolve to the old 1960’s and 70’s eye clawing that they once were at. I’m a second gen comic geek, my dad talks about when he was a kid, fan boys would actually fight over the superiority of their brand over the other, remember the old catch phrase “Make mine Marvel,” it stemmed from those days. I keep having visions of rumbles outside of theaters with squads of geeks and fanboys armed with officially licensed Lucas arts light sabers and Iron Man and Dr. Doom helmets, Catwoman bull whips and prop replica batarangs and Cap shields facing off at the multiplex, God help us if Avengers 2 and JLA come out on the same day it could be fatal. Headline: “GEEK DIES AFTER INHALING FLYING GREEN LANTER RING” “IN BRIGHTEST DAY IN BLACKEST NIGHT FANBOY RIOTS A FUNNY SIGHT.” “NERD HORROR AT THE MULTIPLEX” You laugh. Iron Man Was Missing Something!!!

The movie came off as being cheap. You could tell, at all times, that the producton was filmed on sets, and that hurt. Sometimes for supension of disbelief, you, the viewer, need to forget that you are watching a movie, and the great movies allow you to fade into them. Often times more than not, the viewer can almost feel like they are vicariously experiencing the events in the film, when done right. Where was the epic scope that this Iron Man movie needed, it just wasn't there???

The best comic book based film to date is The Rocketeer, oddly, like Iron Man, about a flying man using artificial means to accomplish that very feat. Now that film had epic scope, romance, heart, a soul and a brain!!! It was like all the best elements of the original Superman film, but sustained, and then building on it, that great foundation, throughout!!! The film was, is brilliant!!! However, Iron Man, save for handling some of the relationship between Tony Stark and his assistant properly, and some fun, but light and barely memorable jokes, it is largely a failed entertainment, and one of its bigger faults is a weak villain.

I believe that Terrence Howard has intentionally overpriced himself in order to get out of the sequel because Iron Man was lacking in substance, and upon reflection, he realized this. Even Howard's performance was lacking because he was given nothing of real bite to act with. When you overprice yourself, that is just a nice way of saying, "I want out" without embarrassing anyone!!! I must however congratulate the filmmakers for trying to educate audiences about western world weapons manufacturers putting weapons into the hands of warring factions all over the world, including that of our enemies--and it's legal, even though these weapons are often used against us???
Cheadle isn't just cheaper, he's smarter

Step one: Star in a big hit for the masses.

Step two: After you get a star-making turn, THEN ask for a bigger payday.

Assuming Howard takes on a bigger role in the second film, and assuming the public loves it, he should have waited until AFTER that film was released to start jockeying for more cash. He went all in with a weak hand. Dummy.

Now a guy like Cheadle shows up, will get even more exposure in a well-liked popular hit, and can cash in later. Even if he doesn't, this role opens up a whole new demographic for the guy, which of course will get him even more diverse opportunities in the long run. Cheadle is a working actor who never fails to get work and appears to be well-liked by his colleagues - which of course ensures that he always gets even more work. That's how you manage a career, Howard.

I would never claim the hokey acting of the guy from JAG a young Connelly, a very bad Alan Arkin and a completely over the top Timothy Dalton as a cliché Nazi and let us not forget Paul Sorvino's gangster with a heart'o gold patriot inside... please. What other films have you watched in the last 17 years to consider this the apex comic flick? It was by Disney,no? Also it was very little like the comic it was based on as a result of it being from Disney. Also I dare you to tell me stop-motion effects and Zeppelin crash ending didn't "take you out of the movie." Here's a dialog snippet from Wikipedia: • Jenny Blake: "Everything about you is a lie." Neville Sinclair: "It wasn't lies, Jenny. It was acting." (The character of Neville Sinclair was broadly based on screen idol Errol Flynn who had been widely rumored to be a Nazi sympathizer. Timothy Dalton played up the role in a campy take on Flynn's "swashbuckling" acting style. • Jenny Blake: "Neville Sinclair is a-" Neville Sinclair: A what? Spy? Saboteur? Fascist? All of the above." • Cliff Secord: (Donning the Rocketeer's helmet) "How do I look?" "Peevy" Peabody: "Like a hood ornament."[2]

But, I just don't consider it to be the best comic flick of all time, nor is Iron Man for that matter, but of the two I do like Iron Man better, because it was one of "my comics" and so I had a great delight in seeing it brought to film, and it met my sensibilities better. I am not a fan of early 20th century period pieces because I just don't like to see an actor bashing me over the head with their vocal pacing going, look, it the thirties damnit. Indie didn't do that, and Indie is my pre WWII standard, but it’s like Rocketeer, Shadow, Phantom, and Dick Tracy that all came out in a 10 yr period there were just trying to hard in that respect. It's one thing to make a period piece about an era, but those films felt like period pieces about that era's movies. If that make any sense.

Interesting comment a while back that this actor might suit the role. I'd say he'd be very good in it. Guess the studio is looking at a bigger name for the role however. If I had to choose, I'd still pick Howard for continuity purposes. Give him a few scenes where he can go a litle more hard-edged on the role - he was a wallpaper in IM. Of course, Cheadle would do the business, but it would no doubt jar with the many fans out there.

I haven't read a single Iron Man comic, so I can't comment on whether or not Howard was appropriate for the role, but he certainly isn't a bad actor. People on this very site universally praised the casting as inspired. What gets me is that I think Cheadle will offer up a very different character, and that will take me out of the movie.

I was a bit skeptical in regards to Terrance being cast as Rhodey, as one of the posters pointed out; too effemante (both looks and voice.)however he managed to pull it off especially during the comedic scenes. (being drunk on the plane with strippers as well as the "military excercise" disclosure.)

Howard is a good actor, but he won't be missed much. What's Micheal Jai White doing nowadays post TDK? He's perfect for WM.

And by the way, Cheadle is a kick-ass actor, but as I said elsewhere, this is why Gooding would have been a better choice: "In all seriousness, you know who they should have gone after??!?! CUBA GOODING JR....! He would have been PERFECT for the role, he would have played it note perfect, and because his career is currently in the toilet, they could have picked him on the cheap, without showin' him da money! It would have been a brilliant move, and a very good choice as a replacement."

Marvel's loss can be DC's gain! Sadly, this could be the beginning of the end of Marvel's good fortune. Think about it. After correcting huge missteps by WB on the homoerotic Schumacher Batman movies, Singer's coming out of the closet and hack remake of the original 1978 Donner film with Superman Returns, and an even bigger hack Pitof's Catwoman, WB finally started to listen and work with DC (a company they have owned forever it seems) and produce V for Vendetta (good although a bastardization of a Alan Moore classic), Batman Begins/The Dark Knight (films speak for themselves), and the soon to be released Watchmen (which could be great enough mend even Alan Moore's heart). So things are looking up. Marvel, on the other hand: Spidey 1, respectable. Spidey 2, kick ass! Spidey 3, sucked ass! Fantastic Four/FF2:RotSS, only little kids could appreciate them because it felt like a '70's Saturday morning cartoon. Daredevil & Punisher (T. Jane), bitch about the acting if you want but the script and directing were the true letdowns. Hulk/The Incredible Hulk, second verse same as the first! Punisher: WarZone, Lexi's named director yes, Lexi actually directing it.... If this is the mindset @ Marvel, expect the law of diminishing returns to go into full effect and may not recover in time for the planned Avengers film.

Imagine that little feminine voice telling a bad guy that he'll smash him up...

Seriously, the bad guy will ask "Who's in that armor Stark? Did you put Miss Pots in there?!?!" He was the weakest link in that movie (and I'm not a fan of Palthrow by a mile! Hell almost shit my pants when I heard they cast her in this movie, but she did ok...).

I think IR2 will be better off with Cheadle, while he doesn't have the size of Howard he does know how to act, and he's 'bout the same size as Jr so.. He can fit in the armor!..

While Chiwetel Ejiofor would be a hell of a choice because of his voice and stature, I fear he's not a good enough actor to go head to head with Jr.

They can't sign someone up for a three picture deal? How did they think Fox did X-Men? Also, surely the whole POINT was for Howard to be a bit nothing in this then emerge as stronger in the sequel. Howard almost certainly WAS signed for multiple films. But when a movie is hugely successful like Iron Man, there is almost always contract renegotiation for the sequels (the same happens in TV, even for those under a current contract) – Downey Jr. no doubt got a huge pay hike for the sequel, as he should. Should Howard have gotten some sort of raise or bump above his originally contracted rate for the sequel? Probably. But the reason people are saying Howard must have a crappy agent is because it sounds very likely they asked for way more than Marvel felt was reasonable and probably wouldn’t budge.

I don't think replacing Terrance Howard is a big deal. I don't follow Iron man in comic land and never have so I come pretty open minded of what he character was "supposed" to be in the first movie. What I saw on screen was a nice "buddy" military guy who was more 'Rod Tidwell' from Jerry Maguire than someone to take seriously. If he's supposed to be someone with any depth, I think he was miscast. I'm guessing the Studio thought so too.

Come on guys, you all knew Katie Holmes was not believable in Batman Begins. She didn't do horrible, but she didn't have the gravity or charisma needed for her role, especially as it grows in the 2nd movie. I was genuinely surprised at Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance in TDK. The movie is stronger because of it. I think it would have still done fine with Holmes, but still would have left you feeling like things were slightly unbalanced. Know what I mean? For me it's like the Frenchman in Matrix Reloaded. His character was worthless... I just didn't buy it, and while you can quietly dismiss it and still enjoy the movie, you're left feeling a little disappointed or distrusting.

There are often renegotiations, yes, but it's not unusual to put some sort of a cap on any fee rises in the first contract. Now presumably Howard's role in a sequel would be much more substantial than what he did in the original. Nevertheless, this should all have been sorted before for the key players. PHANTOM MENACE did amazing business, but they kept their key players. As they have in HARRY POTTER. (Though less-vital ones, like Captain Panaka, walked, I noticed. Bit like Zoe Wanamaker walking from Harry Potter.) These negotiations can be a total nightmare but you can work through them.

wow, that article really makes Howard sound a bit batshit, and weak. Now as the father of a 3 year old, I don't know how I survived before I had baby wipes in the house. I use them all the time instead of napkins or paper towels. But I certainly wouldn't judge a woman (or anyone) for NOT having baby wipes in their bathroom. That's just weird.

are we calling eachother names now you rat fuck? you wanna go toe-to-toe? lets do it you piece of shit. you obviously dont read comics. howard is more rhodie than skinny fuckin wimp cheadle will ever be. howard is bigger and actually even looks similarly to rhodie. his acting wasnt perfect? ok, niether was paltrow's. at least howard seemed dedicated to the charactor in his interviews. and i made the exception for dark knight. continuity is pretty damn important in any series. However i would not put it over good acting...necesarilly. in this case, since howard was fine and youre a moron. id say its pretty fuckin important.

Nothing pleases me more than reading a bunch of fanboys piss and moan about characters that don’t even exist and the actors who may or not play them. You know that’s why their called actors. You can actually have different actors play the same part. Only inflexible fanduds with zero imagination with have a problem with it. Now get back down to that basement before your parents get home.
