He might be my new fair-weather favorite director again after the stinkbomb that del Toro laid.

Is what I think you meant to say. After 2 flops he crawls back to the genre that made him think he could make movies. How wrong he is.... how very wrong. He is nothing more than A one note mockney hack.
I'm not a fan of any of his movies, but...

Downey as Holmes and Depp as Watson, with Strong as a villian, this should be way, way, way out of control.

Lock Stock and Snatch were gleet. So what was wrong with Revolver? Nevermind, I'll find out for myself sometime.

Guy Ritchie signalled diversion when Swept Away came up

As soon as Swept Away and Revolver were mentioned, Guy Ritchie gave a pre-arranged hand signal to his nearby accomplice to create a noisy diversion and it fucking worked! The subject was completely changed!

Errr...isn't that a bit too much hyperbole? I like Rourke as much as the next guy, but I really don't think he's the most celebrated actor around.

Mrs Mulberry works in an office on the Historic London Square Lincoln's Inn Fields, used all the time in historical dramas. There were lots of flustered secretaries yesterday claiming to have seen Downey and/or Law. Pity it was pissing down with rain.
No, it's a bad note.

Lock Stock, Snatch and I assume Rocknrolla (since I refuse to put myself through that particular pain) are awful, awful films. If you want to see British Gangster done well check out The Long Good Friday, Get Carter or more recently Sexy Beast. The only saving grace Ritchie has is that anything with Danny Dyer in it is actually *WORSE* that the shit he makes.

I agree - Guy Ritchie has made a career out of regurgitating better British gangster films. He's a hack. Plain and simple. Rocknrolla wholesale rips off The Long Good Friday - right down to the real estate oriented plot.

films i know, every fucker has seen em and everyone has a favourite line from either movie, one of mine being "its tip top tommy, im just not sure about the colour" as he lifts the door of the caravan.. Rocknrolla is ritchie doing what he does best, making a cool as fuck brit gangster flick that makes the ocean series look positively boring by comparison, his last two were complete shoite, but this one had the cinema in stitches and I hope to fuck we get a sequel, great to see him return to form.

"Look at Mickey Rourke. The man was trounced for two solid decades as the poster child for misspent talent, and now he's the most celebrated actor in Hollywood. "

Robert Downey Jnr called. He said shut the hell up.

Also, just for laughs, read Joe Quinnlan's "Mickey Rourke For A Day". You'll laugh 'till you scream at someone that they're not gonna cut your balls off, the way they did Michael Cimino's.

Guy Ritchie's only 2 good movies were Lock Stock and Snatch and I can clearly credit both of those to Mathew Vaughn. As soon as he left Guy's films became rubbish. Mark Kermode does have a very valid rant about Guy Ritchie and I urge everyone to check those reviews out.

I hope his take on Sherlock Holmes is good. As I'm an enormous Holmes fan, I won't be missing it, but I'll be done with Ritchie if he f's it up. I'm guardedly pessimistic about it, given his past history.

They are both the same genre, but one is a straight horror film while the other is more tongue in cheek. I saw Rocknrolla and thought it was a good way to spend 114 mins.It had a good story and good performances. However, there was a really annoying woman in the back of the cinema with an irritating laugh that ruined it a bit for me. I think she was on prozac. Anyways, so what if Guy Ritchie only makes farcical gangster films. No one complains about Eli Roth only making horror films or George Lucas making disappointing prequels.....
