I have no idea how Glover plays himself in a reboot of the series. If producers seriously consider doing this they need to get back to basics and make Gibson a true badass and give the film edge. The last thing I want to see is Riggs' baby all grown up and workin' it out with Chris Rock.

Rocky Balboa proved that you can return to a dated franchise and obtain fantastic results of entertainment. Unfortunately movies like Indy 4, Die Hard 4, XFiles 2, Terminator 3, Alien Versus Predator (and too many more to go through) prove to be the rule of making viewers ask the question What-was-the-point-of-that? after watching. All are okay movies. They just don't add anything new, and seem to simply be lower quality retreads of movies that came after the trend-setting originals. Like a copy of a copy. Give a great Lethal Weapon. Make it R rated. Start the charactes off in an interesting place where they have to grow from during the adventure that they find themselves in. Just don't throw together Gibson, Glover, Pesci, Russo in a pointless series of bang-bang action, forced emotional moments, and low quality one liners, with no redeaming qualities save for a trendy villian (Lethal Weapon IV anybody???)
Oi! Don't knock Lethal Weapon 4!

I jest, I jest. I realise it's possibly the weakest one of the four (someone needed to tell Chris Rock that the stand-up act wasn't called for), but I love it, as I love the other three. And, if Shane, Richard, Joel, Mel, Danny and Joe are all back for this then I'll be god damned if I'm not there to see it.

I like the first 3 Lethal Movies a lot. The original is a hard-boiled cop drama, the second an action-fest with a commentary on apartheid, and the third is a slap fight with heavy leanings on The Three Stooges - all ace. The fourth film however seems to have been fast-tracked and suffered for it badly, pricipally because it felt under-written (that song on the end was waaaay cheesy). Whoever they get to make this, take the time to get the script tight before filming, don't make it a homage to itself, don't make it some "passing of the torch" crap, and for Christ's sakes let Murtaugh retire!!!

LETHAL WEAPON 4 - Rene Russo, Chris Rock, Joe Pesci etc took away too much time from the Gibson-Glover pairing - why do Hollywood flicks have to cram supporting characters in sequels, its like they are afraid of the original principals carrying the flick? Same thing happened to INDY 4 - 4 or 5 characters running around with Harrison ford - it was like MAD MAD MAD WORLD - wtf? Why dont they go back to basics and focus on the original characters who made the franchise in the first place.

The Jews *do* control Hollywood. I don't think there's even a Jewish person who would deny that. I think it's around 65% of the producers, executives and studio owners are Jewish. Given that the Jews make up around 2% of the US population, yes, I'd say that there is a disproportionate number of Jews running things in Hollywood. Simply saying so is no more anti-Semetic than saying that every President of the United States and almost every US politician in general are Christian is anti-Christian. Most professional basketball players are black! Now I'm a member of the KKK too! There was even an article in Variety about whether Hollywood should let Mel Gibson work again because of what he said. But I guess numbers and facts have an anti-Semetic bias.

And everyone in Hollywood cares about nothing but the bottom line, no matter what color they are or who they pray to.

Noting that there is a disproportionate number of Jews in executive positions in Hollywood is not the same thing as saying Jews control EVERYTHING in Hollywood, which is what you implied. And of course everybody likes to make money, but your comment about box office trumping everything else came right after you said that Gibson pissed off the "CHOSEN PEOPLE". I can't read your mind, so I don't know if you're anti-Semetic or not. I probably shouldn't have made a snap judgment in that respect. But if you really care about whether or not you are perceived as a bigot, maybe you could choose your words a little more carefully. Maybe you don't care because only you know how you really feel. Or maybe you were just joking - but Gibson sure wasn't!

Say that he business world is run by white males and it's, "Fucking phallic-archy! Kill whitey!". But simply mention that most of Hollywood is run by Jewish people and you're worse than Hitler. No one better even suggest that one look up who owns 95% of the media outlets. No really, don't look it up, you'll end up on the list.

Despite Chris Rock being annoying, and Pesci being even more annoying, I really liked all 4 movies. Pesci even had a moment at the end to redeem his character for being so annoying. All 4 movies had great action, good lines, and even a message to boot. 2 was the best, no joke, but 4 had the best villian. I'm there for 5.

WTF!This doesn't make any sense. They were all but ready to start shooting MM4 with a supposed great script in 2003 with Mel and then the war started and they backed off with George Miller saying Mel probably wouldn't come back....geez everyone hates Thunderdome, but I bet Thunderdome will look like f'n The Dark Knight compared to Lethal Weapon 5.

Yes, Mel went on his ridiculous drunken tirade. It happened. And now talkbackers use it as cannon-fodder whenever his name his mentioned. Mels done some hard time (well, he hasn't worked) since his meltdown and if he wants to try to repair a little damage and get back in the game, I'm fine with that. As far as I can tell, there are Jewish people in powerful positions in Hollywood. So? Do you honestly believe that Hollywood would produce different movies if the majority was from a different ethnic/religious persuasion? Oh, and if you're interested, Walden Media is owned by Philip Anschutz, who is listed as the 31st richest man in America by Forbes. He's not jewish. Check him out, then have a look at one particular series of films that company produces. Finally, in my opinion, there is no need for a debate about Hollywood and religion on Ain't It Cool. Let's get back to ranting and raving about all the usual rubbish. This particular talkback needs a reboot! Over and out.

Yes, all this movie needs is some more extremely politically INcorrect ethnic slurring like in LETHAL 4. And also bad one liners that just sound childish, like the LW4 quote in my subject line.

Better still, get Shane Black to write it, get Joel Silver to produce, get Richard Donner to direct, and the magic will be back. Providing they don't do grown-up-kids-obviously-being- groomed-for-future-sequels or a goddamn two-other-cops-who'll-carry-th e-franchise-name-onwards thing. It could be great... but it probably won't be.

And to whoever writes this piece of shit... just reread the DIE HARD 4 script and do EVERYTHING differently. 'Cos that movie was DIE HARD IN NAME ONLY! FUCK YOU LEN WISEMAN!!!

About this stereotype thing...

Being a working-class white dude of Anglo-Saxon descent, I'm not actualy a football thug, I don't have a bulldog, cross of St George or the words LOVE / HATE tattooed on my body, I don't support the BNP, I don't drink all day and beat my wife, or any of the other white working-class English steroetypes that get thrown around. I'm no chav, and of that I'm very proud.

That said, why are the stereotypes about Jews and black people so offensive? I mean, if the stereotype about my ethnic group was that we are extremely good at making money, owned all the major entertainment industries and were rumoured to be running the world under some great conspiracy group called the Illuminati or whatever - that beats the hell out of people thinking my kind don't work 'cos we can't be arsed. And as for the stereotype about having great big dicks... hey, that's not a bad stereotype to have to live with! It's certainly better than "white, working class, English... you must be a BNP racist bastard!"

Bottom line - there are worse stereotypes to live with than "Jews are obsessed with money" or "black guys have huge dicks". And - just like me and my kind - you could just ignore the steretypes, ignore the morons who perpetuate them, and carry on getting on with your lives, with a very healthy sense of humour to go with it. Mel said some dumb shit. He wasn't the first, he sure as shit won't be the last. Let's all get over it and move on. Preferably to FURY ROAD, or PASSION OF THE CHRIST II: THE QUICKENING...

My Jewish wife tried pulling that shit on me once about the lack of Jewish actors. I replied: I'll pull 10 DVD's and we'll skip to the credits. You read the names of the directors, producers and casting execs and get back to me. PLUS Jewish actors STILL sometimes change their names. Screwbini is channeling his own hang-ups. given what Gibson said, he conceivably should not be in a major film ever again. Fuck his opinions, his lack of judgment alone should banish him from the kingdom. Ultimately, however, the only thing HOLLYWOOD, not Jews, care about is the bottom line. For as much as we all rant about what sucks and what should not get a sequel around here, we all know damn well that if a flick turns a decent profit they WILL find a way to make the sequel. Dunno was being cynical, Screw. Some of us here in America still believe we can be as brutally honest as we'd like w/o worrying about hurting the feelings of all u axe grinders out there.

But, because his character was so popular, they felt they had to bring him back in the other sequels. He was intricle to the plot in part 2. In the others, they just made up excuses to bring him back and it felt forced. HIi funny "Schtick" got old by part 3 also.

Murtaugh gets pissed because a dodgy Thai dentist who knows some kind of Thai kung foo shit (played by Tony Jaa) gave him sharp braces that cut up his lips. Riggs joins him on his quest for revenge. This leads them to Phuket where they stumble upon a new dentistry black market that threatens America's freedom (the only free country in the entire world). Shia Labouf will play an American ladyboy that moved to Thailand to be with his own kind, that helps them on their quest.

And Murtaugh turned 50 in that. So, 31 years later..his character will be turning, given a a year or so of production..approxamately 83. Oh hell yeah. And Mel should be in his late 60's to 70's. Nothing Lethal about it, unless they run too fast have heartattacks. no, this will def be a "passing of the torch". And those always turn out sooooo well. And then we can be inundated with new sequels to those flicks. Eventually, it'll go the way of most clasic films and be remade starring somebody from the WB/Disney stable. Getting to old for this....beep. (We all know it'll be watered down PG lite).

Really, aren't both these guys old enough for grandkids? Murtaugh's daughter could have one or two kids by now. Riggs should have at least one kid by now.

Russo should take her clothes off. Frequently.

They should not ignore the actor's/character's ages and just keep doing the same thing. Murtaugh should already be retired when the film starts. Riggs is been forced to partner up with the Chris Rock character. Hopefully the Chris Rock character will be killed in the first 5 minutes because God should punish anyone that fucking annoying. Keep Joe Pesci around for some more three stooges bits.

Using the same actors for the family is a plus. On the Ghost Whisper, her partner's son is being played by actor #4. That kid is growing up so fast the team from 'Fringe' are going to show up to investigate.

I think what everyone is forgetting, despite endless personal pronouncements that this or that "sucked" or whatever, is the chemistry Gibson and Glover had together. The ever growing enterogue was fun too. Though they seemed intent on closing the door to the series with LW4 (montage at the end, etc.) I am sure they can pull another one out and have it be fun. That's all these movies were...fun. I recently treated myself to a LW weekend, much to my wife's consternation. (Sorry opinion ahead...)After the shockingly awful "Comedy" that was LW3 (some good bits though, like the building blowing up at the beginning and Lorna and Riggs using their injuries as foreplay) , LW4 looked like a classic.

This feels like a project created to help Mel out, but I'll still see it. It was so fucking funny--you couldn't understand a word until they both finished and said "thank you" in unison. I'll see it just to revisit that cool chemistry. No buddy-cop movie tops the first Lethal Weapon. 48 Hours is the closest one I can think of, but Eddie wasn't really a cop, I guess.
