THERE IS NONE. It's not true. Nobody wants to track you with an RFID chip. You DO have to pay your taxes (and they DO go toward good things like schools, roads, libraries, and clean water). You aren't part of some "DaVinci Code" level plot. GROW THE FUCK UP.

Schmuck or not, Shamalyan is capable of making an enjoyable film...I know absolutely zero about the "Last Airbender" thing and have never had any overt interest in anime (which is what airbender is right?) but if Night's gonna do something I'd be psyched to see an Unbreakable sequel.

With that established, a sequel would have to either retread the ground we've already covered (i.e. the angst-ridden hero), or just go full blown Hancock on us. I just can't imagine for the life of me where an unbreakable II would even begin, or where it could possibly lead. It was a great movie, and he should leave it alone. Hitchcock had a string of low performing movies, but he stuck with it and continued forward. M.Night should just do the same - chalk it up as as a bad stretch, and take a long break - get the right story set up FIRST, then call the studios. Seems to me, its been more of a "sir, Mister Shamalayan is on line six for you." and he just says, "hi. I want to make another movie." and he's told "sure. We'll draw up the papers on Monday." He's been riding his own coat-tails by cashing in on his previous successes and going half-cocked with a loose 'concept' for a movie. His last 3 have really felt like he was writing them 1 scene ahead of the actual filming schedule. Sit back, write something fantastic, and THEN and ONLY THEN, call a studio and talk about making a great movie.

It goes without say that his subsequent work did nothing to elevate my opinion of him or the product that he pushes, but I admit that I find it humorous to hear people bill "Unbreakable" as a "modern classic." Really? Is that in the same context that AMC labels "Troy" a classic? I think that's the height of fanboy revisionism; outside of said community, "Unbreakable" has not gained appreciable credibility. Perhaps the fundamental problem with his works is that he is very much caught up with himself. I remember when TIME magazine called him the next Spielberg (shortly before the release of "Signs"), they described him as incredibly arrogant. Nothing I've read/heard since then has dissuaded me from forming that opinion of him, and to it, I'd add "out of touch." He needs to stop picking up the pen and writing his own movies. Stick to directing, dude, cuz you suck ass at writing. M. Night Shyamalan (wanting) to write Unbreakable 2? Not interested. M. Night Shyamalan directing someone else's script of Unbreakable 2? Ever so marginally interested.

Signs: Kinda dumb.

Village: Kinda pretty.

Lady In Water: Half baked.

Happening: Just bad.

Besides, they both think more of themselves than they ought.

That said I like me some M Night Shyamalan. The Happening is the single funniest script I've ever read in my life. I will never ever forget "The bush stares at the little girl" quite possibly the stupidest sentence ever written in a script.

For those of you hoping that he'll do a good job with Avatar, I wouldn't hold your breath. This is the man who boasted in 2001 that he could make a Pokemon movie that was a deep, evocative piece on the human condition. He's an ass. And for those of you that are so defensive and feel that the vitriol directed against him is unwarranted, wake the F up. What's unwarranted is you defending the turds he puts on screen.

Star Trek TNG: Season 7 was one of the worst and then they made 4 movies, of which the second one was the only passable one.

Babylon 5: Season 5 was arguably the worst and then there were the spin-offs - all bad to problematic.

X-Files: Last couple seasons with the T-1000 were the worst, and their last movie sucked.

Stargate SG1: Last couple seasons were the worst.

... I know they like to keep shows going for as long as they can to pay the bills, but why can't anyone just end it once the story's told and told well. Here's hoping BSG.

Of course compared to other actual box-office hits of the time, Lightning Jack was still a flop.

He should do what Spike Lee did with "Inside Man" and direct a couple of low profile 'studio' films that he didn't write to get his chops back.
