Didn't they try this years ago with Roseanne producing and Carrie Fisher in the Jennifer Saunders role? Just let it go.
They did this already

They shot a bad pilot years ago. Hurwitz was probably asked to do an Ugly Betty/Sex And The City clone and thought "well a pimps got to eat" then decided on a rehash. Also, more Arrested Development pretty please.
Oh so they didn't even shoot the pilot

I must have been thinking of Red Dwarf. Does anyone remember the shitty Fawlty Towers remake? The Nut House or something. Still there's always success stories like Sanford And Son and All In The Family.
I want the damned movie already.

Who gives a shit about this? Mitch, give me an Arrested Development movie. Give it to me now. I want it. So bad. SOOO bad.
They tried to do this in France and with Cybill Shepherd...

...on her show "Cybill" with the otherwise great Christine Baranski (in the "Patsy-ish" role), and it didn't work in either case. AbFab was singularly British and singularly tailored to the talents of Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. It also had a great supporting cast. I can't think of any American actress who could do either role credibly - one would have to be completely fearless and willing to look ridiculous and unattractive, and let's face it, no American actress would be willing to do that, nor would any producer allow that in a series. So it will end up watered-down and stupid and a pale imitation of the original. Why even bother?
Again?

From the painfully unfunny PAYNE so-called remake of superb FAWLTY TOWERS to the unbearably dull DC FOLLIES so-called remake of the side-splitting SPITTING IMAGE, Hollywood simply CANNOT DO that sort of British humour properly. Too much political correctness getting in the way. So why bother?

Let's not forget AMANDA'S, starring Bea Arthur in the John Cleese role. Though in all fairness, I could see how they thought that would work as both Bea Arthur and John Cleese have enormous cocks.

Doesn't that mean Hurwitz is developing, like, 4 different upcoming TV shows?!? They must really feel bad about Arrested Development. Their gonna feel even worse when they cancel all of these.

American women acting like that won't come off the same way. They'll just seem ridiculous and pathetic, and in an unfunny way.

We don't need it. Just play the original here on prime time if you want to expose audiences to AbFab.

And BTW- NEVER REMAKE THE YOUNG ONES!

Dammit. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it, but here it is anyway: If Hollywood tries to remake the Young Ones as an American show, I'll have to kick some ass.

Not that I'm dying to see this, or even will, but these two of Weeds, etc., have joked about doing a yankee AbFab, and I think they could actually make it work.
They did Faulty Towers twice

Once with Bea Arthur, and she was playing Sybil. When they told Cleese they were writing out Basil for the remake, he knew it would fail. The other version was with Whoopie Goldberg.

"Cybill" was a clone of AbFab and Christine Baranski was doing a dead-on clone job of Joanna L., right down to the clothes and the walk. Baranski won the Emmy, and at the podium thanked the writers "for writing a completly original character." The next year Cybill Shepherd put her foot down as exec. producer, and turned the show from a remake of "AbFab" to a remake of "I Love Lucy: The Year in Hollywood."-----later-----m

No way this would work on network TV. It would have to be a cable series and in reality, if I want to watch AbFab, its on BBC America enough where I can see it there.
Another "AbFab" remake...

Roseanne Barr had the rights to this years ago, and when told to cut out the drugs, the drinking, the dark humour, and everything else that made it interesting, ditched it. Ain't gonna work - not then, not now, not never.

seriously, with the exception of The Office, when have ANY of them gone well? just because you're only just understanding the jokes from the first run, doesn't justify a remake. What's next? The Good Life?
I thought they tried this with Whoppy Goldberg...

and it vanished...quickly. I did remember some awful show with Whoopy goldberg and that Iranian born british comic Ohmad Dhjallily. Very Funny bloke. But giving him his own show was a mistake by the BBC. He seemed rather boxed in by the writers. and his act can tire quickly. But its observations as an iranian born and brought living in the west that are very funny and spot on.
and anyway ad fab....

is not a funny program. its one of those shows that you look back on and say. my god, I cant believe I watched that crap. June Whitfield was great in it though. and that scene with the femi-doms is hilarious. The best bit was the end where Saffy stood up to her mum and patsey. through them out of her house.
at least fox are not progressing...

with their re-make of Some Mothers do have 'em. If you have never seen that. Look at it. Laugh at it(Kirsty wark hates Frank Spencer) and marvel at Micheal Crawford risking his neck every week. No stuntmen on that show.
