This is the first show I've seen where the supernatural was more believable than the mundane. One last thing though I liked the last episode it was no Eugene Toombs of X-Files fame, it has been a while but basically was it not that episode that pretty much sealed X-files crown and got everyone hooked?

Threshold, Odyssey 5, The 4400 et cetera, et cetera. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts. There's nothing too bad with the show, but tonally it's generic. Christ there's even a bit of Eureka thrown in. Think back to the early 90s and the arrival of the X-Files. There hadn't been anything quite like it for years. Same thing with Lost, it combined old ideas with new in an exciting way.

I gave it four episodes and I am already sick of it. It suffers from the same conceit that many of these "look how clever and edgy this is" shows/comics/movies fall victim to: it's so busy being the smartest thing in the room that it overlooks it's own ridiculous plot devices: This ultra secret, super sophisticated anti-conspiracy multi-agency government entity with so much juice it can pull rank on the NSA and the best they can manage is two field agents, one of whom is actually the civilian son of the nut job whose research pretty much caused every phenomenon they encounter??!!?? That shit where she chases down Jackson's kidnapped ass and gets out of the car alone and without backup pretty much sealed it for me. Plus I am sick to death of that bald asshole boss of hers constantly revealing shit to her in dribs and drabs, while explaining that he was holding out because she "isn't ready" for the big picture. WTF?? If she can't be trusted, why was she recruited?? To each his own, but this show just keep pulling red herrings out of it's ass, and for me enough is enough.

Plus the stories were done over 10 years ago on the X-Files. I like it, but i totally understand many of the people's complaints about it. It needs work. That being said, I'm hoping the creative powers that be use this time to work on its weaknesses. If they don't, cancel it and move on. Firefly's early termination was a travesty, but at least Whedon had the clout to get a movie made to get us closure. So many shows never even get that chance.

I liked it until Tuesday night. Man, this shit got Freaky-DEAKY on Tuesday. (everything prior to Tuesday has been very 'explainable') 1.) What the fuck are the vibrating underground artillery shells?!?! 2.) Anna Torv....Damn she makes pant-suits sexy! This babe is very hot in a completely sublime way. Also, love the glasses. 3.) Who the fuck is the eyebrowless 'Observer'???? Reminds me a little of UATU. "Roast Beef sandwich, as rare as you have, with ELEVEN Jalapenos...on the side." 4.) The Assassin who uses some sort of lethal force projector and who likes to torture/read thoughts through nasal wires. 5.) Anna Torv...ummm...more bikini shots like in the 1st episode, please? OK, so the AICN talkbacker critics (who also criticize EVERYTHING all the time) may not like some of the X-Files similarities, but over all, I think that JJ Abrams hit a home run with this show. And again, after Tuesday night's paranormal twists I am hooked!

not sure if they can fix the Alias-Files formula, eventually the newness will wear off this series and its going to slump in the ratings. Show needs to move away from the conspiracy stuff, stick more to small arcs, and deal with twilight zone/early xfiles territory. as it develops more of its own backstory, fringe is feeling like the convoluted clusterfuck that xfiles became in the seasons after it became mainstream. fringe is already flirting with their own cig smoking man conspiracy angle. he just uses a different prop. etc. 4 episodes in and it feels like we've been here before. needs to break out and do its own thing, if the show wants to last.

It may not have started out with the same big bang that Lost did, or even Alias, but it's obviously building to something. Considering the Abrams doctrine is all about changing the show as it goes along, I don't think this formula is going to stick around forever. Right now it's "whacky shit happens, the loopy doc had a hand in it but forgets until the convenient time in the episode, then he figures out something using fringe science to help them solve the case." I GUARANTEE you that by the end of this season, that won't be how it goes down any longer. Something's going to have to change. I'm just wondering where they'll take it. By the way, Torv? She's pretty fucking hot. She's a cross between Aurora Snow and Cate Blanchett. That = win.

Thanks to those dopey Will Smith films, most of us forget the descriptions of classic MiBs. The behavior of The Observer in the diner is classic MiB behavior with the odd food choices. But apparently in this continuity, the MiBs are not human because his super binoculars were taking measurements in centimetres and not in some alien measurement system. He also seemed to be taking notes using short hand. But what got to me was the villain's super-duper blaster which reminded me of the alien guns from I Come in Peace at least from in the forest scenes where it looked to be capable of actual fire power and not just a bad-ass mechanical Force Throw. But the character of "Walter" is the reason why I watch this show. Joshua Jackson's character has done nothing remotely bad-ass as say Brian Austin Green(e)'s character has done on the Terminator tv series.

I think the writers have a lot of ideas, twists and character arcs ready for this series and I really want to see it play out. So far Fringe is my favorite new series and I'm happy to see that it won't go the way of Firefly (Bring Back Firefly Dammit!). I like the mysteries surrounding Peter and Walter and the Observer, especially the mystery of Peter's medical records that Walter briefly mentioned in episode 2.

Not a disaster, just a sort of by-the-numbers kind of deal. Nice production, capable cast, but no real hook... pretty bland leads, too, except for their resident mad scientist, who may be a cliche but at least seems to have a little spark to him. Not to join the legions bemoaning Firefly, which was a solid show that deserved a little more life (and was ultimately ill-served by a movie format), but the greatest tragedy in the history of TV show cancellation was Freaks and Geeks. Futurama also deserved at least another two seasons -- and hey, it may actually get 'em now. Fringe is good enough to deserve a chance (hell, most truly great shows don't find their feet until about the middle of the first seasons and sometimes not even by the second) but honestly, I'd be much happier if they'd bring back the X-files... even with Dogget and Reyes, it was a stronger, richer show than Fringe.

I really needed something to watch at 9/8c to counter my wife's awful taste in TV, and this fills the gap. I really want to like this show a lot more, but I agree it does feel a little like X-Files Lite. However, it seems they are spending more time with the overall conspiracy that the week's mystery. I always liked the self-contained mystery X-Files episodes more than the conspiracy continuation episodes. The lead chick is kind of bland (reminds me of the chick from Without a Trace), but I think everyone else is pretty good in their parts.

What do “Firefly,” “The Tick,” “Point Pleasant,” “Freakylinks” and “The Lone Gunmen” have to do with Fringe? There are a lot of shows that have been picked up by Fox since those shows aired so to compare them makes no sense. I don't get why Fringe is even getting a full season. I watched the first episode and thought not bad but after that this show hasn't been able to keep my attention longer than the credits. I guess Fox paid too much for this show to have to bow out this early. I just hope Dollhouse gets a full order when it comes in January.

This show didn't bolt out of the gate, and it seems to have generated lukewarm response among the "internet message board" population, despite its little macabre touches. However, its very blandness may be making it more approachable to the very people currently pumping its ratings up (i.e. procedural addicts). I also agree that while the lead is pretty, she also seems a little bland. That may be partly due to her part being seriously under-written, to the point where I think they are deliberately NOT telling us about her character. That's a pretty big gamble when you're putting essentially a void in the center of every episode. Hate to bring up LOST, which had a pilot rivaling some feature films, but we knew more about Jack in the first half than we do about... wait, what's her name again?

It costs literally next to nothing to create a DVD box set. So it wouldn't cost Fox fuck all to release my beloved FREAKYLINKS all in one spectacular DVD box set with a shitload of extras and free blow-up Lisa Sheridan. Ahem. Anyway, we have FIREFLY on DVD (long may it reign in all our hearts - as much as we ALL want it to return, it fucking never will) and LONE GUNMEN (much under-rated), so WHY isn't FREAKYLINKS out on DVD? It would sell. If shit like FRINGE - a feeble X-FILES-meets-DOOMWATCH-with-z ero-charisma rip-off - can get a full series, this is final proof that the suits at Fox need to loosen their neckties - it's cutting off the oxygen to their brains. Fucksticks.

It essentially WAS exactly what FRINGE is trying to be, but with waaaay more charisma and balls and rock-star attitude - and MICHELLE MOTHERFUCKING FORBES as MIRANDA FUCKING ZERO!!! THAT is the number one unforgivable sin EVER committed by a network - not giving GLOBAL FREQUENCY a full series. You have NO FUCKING IDEA what we are missing out on now 'cos of that - and shit like FRINGE gets made. Fucking unforgivable.

I wasn't much into it the first three episodes ... but it's starting to add some layers. Creepy Mr. Abadon, Denethor the mad scientist and Pacey from Dawson's Crack are all surprises ... especially Pacey - he's actually rather engaging in a role that easily could by annoying as living hell. The main chick is just milquetoast though. Anyways, I'm glad - for once - they are giving a show like this a year to bear fruit.

I agree that it's a damn shame they didn't make Global Frequency into a series. The pilot for that was great! However, I really like Fringe and all the characters on that show.
