The story actually IS pretty intense. It may not be super deep, but it's the "what if..." of how the Greek myths ended. What happened to those Gods and Goddesses? Why did they just kinda go "poof?" And just why the fuck is Kratos pasty white? All of it is here and will be concluded with GoW 3. Harry... the final scenes of God of War 2 would make for one of the most epic cliffhangers in action film history. Just go youtube the damn thing. You'll dig it.

The one video game I wouldn't mind seeing turned into a movie and this douchebag is interested. If this were done right, and with enough testosterone, it would make 300 look like the Princess Diaries. By the way I totally agreed with the idea of casting Djimon Honsou for Kratos when it was suggested months ago. For any other casting suggestions just keep in mind the guy doesn't have to be bald to start with, all it takes is a razor to make the difference.

Maybe this means that he is off BHCIV. That would be the best news. I really like Rush Hour 1 & 2, but this guy really shouldn't direct anything but buddy cop films (which BHCIV is not). Seeing as how he made X-Men 3 totally boring and ugly, I do not have high hopes for GoW. Studio should have gone to the director of Max Payne or 300. GoW is going to require obscene amounts of CGI and blue screen.

for this type of movie. Someone who can actually establish an epic world the audience can sink their teeth into and give this movie justice. Brett Ratner doesn't have this type of visual creativity. He's never given any creative out look to a movie other then where the special effect goes and where the actor is on the screen. He goes for flash, not substance. I would also like to point out that the God of War games hold a much deeper storyline then anything he's ever touched in his career, and I honestly doubt he has the mindset to pull off anything incredible from a movie like this. He should look and be aware of his abilities and turn this movie to someone who CAN make something with this. Epic movies like God of War could be just are not his style or fortee.

Ratner better not fuck this up. You reading this, Brett? This isn't tough.

Play the game. Or, hire someone to just play it for you.

Take notes. Or, hire someone else to take notes while you watch the other guy you hired play it.

Follow those notes. There is NO REASON to pull a Resident Evil on this and change things up. Maybe a tweak here or there. MAYBE.

Do NOT give this the 300 treatment, either. It doesn't need to by hyper-stylized. What this needs to be is RESPECTED. Yah, I know, Kratos fucks sluts and smashes skulls, but at the same time, he does have motivation. There's a CHARACTER under that *description removed for spoilerish reasons.* In fact, all that *descriptoin removed for spoilerish reasons* IS his character. Again, play the game.

Bottom line: there's no need for cheese, here. Take it seriously, and, well... we'll take YOU seriously. That may seem harsh, but it's also true. Fuck this up, and it will be nothing more than "just another" video game adaptation. Do it justice and you become... well, a God.

I wish they could get Ridley Scott to do it. I just watched the ending to second game on youtube and to make a good movie out of this you need someone with a grand vision. Or Mel Gibson. The man knows scale, structure, and blood n' guts people. It's right up his alley too.

In the odd chance Ratner reads this, I have more faith in him to do a decent God of War flick than i do alot of Directors...i honestly think it fits his style of flick. Anyways, consider Elias Koteas...put him in that costume and he fits in the look of Kratos, the age and similiar background, being Greek. But you'll probably just cast Jackie Chan or Shia Lebeouf...

Ratner has the most inert direction of any major filmmaker
by DeathShrike
Sep 30th, 2008
05:29:10 PM
Normally, Ratner directing a video game film would be perfect for his inept, inert, dry, lifeless style of directing. His ability to get bad performances out of any caliber of actor (Ed Norton, Ralph Fiennes, etc) closely mirrors video games' occaisionally uninspired voicework-based star turns. Unfortunately, the God of War games are surprisingly engrossing, well-acted and extremely cinematic affairs, which Ratner's incompetence will destroy. This is very bad news. If any video game had a chance at translating into a legitimately good film, it was God of War. Now, there is no chance.

There aren't exactly a lot of games I enjoy with a passion nor have a need to see made into film. But God of War is one of them, and this shit pisses me the fuck off. Kratos games aren't exactly deep when it comes to story? Fucking short pudgy bastard hasn't played the game then. Part of God of Wars success was its story. Theres a dark as hell mystery to Kratos thats unraveled as the game goes on and if the filmmakers are smart(sarcasm) they'll stick to that same method. It was more of an homage to Greek mythology and the films made before hand based on them, Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts. I'll spoil it right now, but any story that ends with a mortal man plunging a giant sword thru the chest of an Olympian God does not belong in the hands of Brett "I like Turtles" Ratner. Fuck hollywood, and fuck Ratner, maybe the economy will collapse before this little shit has a chance to ruin something better than he is.

The dimwitted fuckin hack lost all credibility with that statement. God of War is a very interesting twist on the ENTIRE GREEK mythos. Yeah, the way stories play out in game aren't much, but they have all the elements in place to be as deep satisfying and epic as Omnibus edition of Complete Greek Mythology.

Let me put it in perspective, remember how Verbinski used different pirate myths and legends of the sea to come up with PotC mythology? Well, a GoW movie deserves treatment like that, only the entire mythology and angle for an alternate twist [a reluctant anti-hero/god] already in place.

Tell UGO's Evil Adams to crawl back into the sack he spawned from.

Right on the money...

This story of GoW is specifically explaining WHY there aren't anymore Greek myths... something that has NEVER been done before (to my knowledge). Didn't people criticize Pirates because it is too complex? Isn't God of War more complex given the background and detail put into the trilogy, mythwise? Ignorant fools...

The story in God of War is pretty terrible.

Why does hollywood keep on reguritating ideas onto the big screen? Quit it already! I would like some new ideas and charachters and stories going into movies not a reshaping of ideas! Are you guys too thick to come up with some original movies now and then? I know that it is all about the fat ass dirty dollar and that even a reference to God of War had bard members eyes lighting up with dollar signs but come on man! Bring me the viewer something new and let the gaming companies reguritiate that into a game instead of the other way around. I sincerely hope there is a way. I have some ideas- hell anyone on the outside will have ideas- not all good ideas come from finks in hollywoodland- you need outside perspective - some freshness in the mix. Look outside hollywood for some new ideas and you will have your kick ass, bad ass ORIGINAL movie.

"In this uplifting drama set in 1991, Tom Hanks plays an estranged father reunited with his son, unseen for the first six years of his life, after the tragic death of his ex-wife.Initially unable to bond, they discover, quite by chance, a shared love of Tetris. Through removing the blocks on that little screen, they slowly remove the blocks in their hearts." reads the back of this imaginary DVD.

i dunno if that would really work as a feature film. that game is pretty good as a game but that seems like one best left alone. a movie about that would probably be kind of boring ha

I thought RED DRAGON was quite good. And RUSH HOUR was a good film. I know Ratner isn't the greatest movie director around, but he's certainly not the worst. Personally, I don't get the Ratner hate on this site!?!

X3 sucked balls guy. I know, I know...it was a paycheck. Hell, I'd have gotten paid too; I just would have made something worth watching. I actually puked on some poor asian kid while watching that piece of shit. As Hollywood go-to lackey I'm sure you will continue to get paid but you will always be laughed at by your peers.

but I feel like this website slings an unnecessary amount of shit on him. I don't consider Red Dragon a bad movie, in fact, I consider it the only film in that series that compares to Silence of the Lambs (its scarier if you ask me). X3 wasn't good, but it held my attention and I was never bored (I was at points in the first 2). The Family Man is respectable, if not pretty good (it's been a while since I last saw it). Rush Hour 1 was entertaining and 2 and 3 did more of the same, but I think most of the blame for their annoyances falls upon the shoulders of Chris Tucker (whom should never work again). I just feel like with action movies he is really good at that whole... action part? Yeah that's it. His character development is weak, but with God of War? Who cares? Who remembers anything about that game other than the part with the boobs and then a shit-ton of violence and timed button pushing boss battles. I don't think he is the perfect choice for this flick (maybe give Xavier Gens another go at a video game movie, Frontier(s) kicked ass right?) but he's hardly the worst (Gus Van Sant anyone?). Just relax and let this thing ride out and I'm sure most of you'll be angry because "its not like the game" but eventually you'll get over it and recognize that just because its based off the game, it won't ever actually be the game.

One of the reasons the God of War games have been so successful is BECAUSE of how engaging the stories are. That UGO guy knows nothing. Just like the people who are saying the game story is 'terrible'. Loved the cliffhanger from God of War 2 and can't wait for 3. I'm interested in a movie adaptation but yeah, Ratner doesn't inspire much confidence.

Anyone watch "Code Monkeys" and see the episode about the ET video game?

Dave: Um right so ET is about this awesome alien who comes to Earth and, thats pretty much it. Lets go people!
Jerry: Okay, whats the kid's name? I need a name, a need a name, a need the kid's name.
Dave: Um Herman. Yeah Herman. Larrity: Now, Are there any snakes in this movie?
Dave: Yes. In one scene, ET invites a snake to save the jews.
Mary: So what does ET do on Earth?
Dave: Um well, I mean he fights kids with a light saber, so that's good.
Mary: Why?
Dave: Um, because he's searching for the lost ark of the Covenant and he has to melt the Nazi's face off. Thats, thats how it works
Clarence: Does he find the Arc of the Covenant?
Dave: No, instead he dresses up like a woman so he can get an acting role on a soap opera.
Black Steve:Wait, who the f*** is ET?
Dave: So then he has to fight the Russians, because they won't let Herman dance in the town where he lives, because Russians hate dancing.

I loved that game it had a sad beauty to it,it made you feel really guilty everytime one of the giants came crashing down. The music was great too. That game came closest to capturing the sadness, in the original Tomb Raider {before Lara became a full-on Jane Bond}Gods of War is great , but more of an enjoyable rollercoaster ride .I do love that Kratos encounters all the greats of Greek myth....and then bashes them to death!!!!My suggestion is Geraud Butler back again under a shit load of Hell boy thick make-up!.He can do the shouting no problem

He would be perfect to adapt this game. rom the flesh searing blades of Kratos to the freaky ass sirens and the gods themseleves it's some of the best design work I've seen put into a video game. I mean that Hades level was a trip. Why they would let Hackner do this is beyond me.

I mean it was ok....competent. But does that really qualify him to make major movies like an X3 (which mostly sucked btw)...As for Red Dragon, you know that Anthony Hopkins and Ed Norton thought the guy was a hack right? They berated him every day on set apparently...That doesn't strike me as a very competent director.

you all know this to be true! hollywood doesn't care about substance...it's all about effects and money...people will go see the movie to verify it's suckability...which will mean it makes money despite being terrible...which will mean sequels...and people going to see sequel to see if they "finally got it right." leading them to be let down again...then say...well, some kratos is better than no kratos...the vicious cycle of terrible comic and video game movies is our fault as much as it is hollywood's...the best way to make them listen it to totally ignore this kind of crap everytime it hits the cinema.

He was always a monster and what pushes him over the edge is losing the one thing that made him less of a monster. Kind of remeinds me of The Saint of Killers in Preacher. If the writers could be allowed to forget they're working from a video game and seriously adapt the material we could have a pretty kickass barbarian epic.

I'm not sure why that hasn't sunk in. The best thing to do with game characters is rebuild 'em from scratch for the film world. Let the whiny homo fans cry about it, they wouldn't know a good story anyway.

SotC is the perfect telling a story the way it is. To properly convey the Perfect simplicity the Movie would have to have very little Dialouge and Wanderer Relationship with his horse would have to be symbolized. As for games not having good stories you have no idea what your talking I was surprised by the quality in the story of GTA 4 which blew my mind. There are nearly a dozen different Video games that not only do a hell of a job telling a story sometimes a better job then most movies.

i'd wager we are guaranteed for Kratos to have a 'hilarious' sidekick now. and all his jokes will revolve around how Kratos is so cranky all the time. My money's on rob schneider for the role. 'I AM DA GAWD OF WAAAA!!
