I know it's ridiculous to compare Ricky to that "mangina" but British humor doesn't translate to American humor. Just look at the vast difference in the two different Office shows. One is fun and the other is absolutely hilarious. The British must be thinking the same thing in reverse. I love Ricky but not to host the Oscars. However, I am positive he would do a LOT better than Letterman. Can I get an AMEN!?!?!

Ricky Gervais is genius.

Though, expect John Q. Public to hate him and think, "I can't understand a word he's saying."

The man saved the Emmys...that award show was like a wino's piss...diseased! Ricky was surely the star that night. I think he will do a great Job on the Oscars...can't see how it could go wrong...I mean, the Oscars is a farce of a show anyway with zero importance...an actress who wins an award tends to disappear from our screens fast!!! The actors follow up their wins with 30 bombs! And no-one gives a shit about best song! Its all a farce. And before some anal nerd goes "But what about him and what about her" - I generalise of course.
Oh GOD NOOOOO!!!!

This may be the first Oscar ceremony in years I just record so I can fast forward past the host's stuff. No way can I take 3 hours of Gervais. He's okay on his shows, but this is wrong for him (and Ghost Town sucked)

Oh it's Gervais' ego going supernova in the stratosphere!!

Don't get me wrong, I think he can funny as hell, and I loved 'Extras', but this will be car crash TV i'm sure of that.

It'll make the whole Uma/Oprah catastrophe look like high art!!

I dont' understand people thinking he's arrogant really, yes he plays it like that to the camera but as far as i can see it's all part of the joke. I mean look at his stand up "fame" and his series "extras". Both of them deal with the issue of fame and the ego that comes with it, and both of them mock it. I don't see how Gervais could do a show like extra's, where the main character becomes famous and a jerk, but learns his lesson at the end. Whilst in real life becoming a famous jerk who hasn't learnt his lesson yet. :-/
Excellent, excellent idea!

Anyone who's seen Ricky's stand up would know how unbelievably funny he can be in front of a crowd. This is the best pick for Oscar host I've heard in a long time. The haters have no sense of humour, end of story.

little bastard. but a talented one. Anyone see that new heroes of comedy. Gervais is a comedy bully. no really he is. He initiated the editor into the group by grabbing him really hard in a headlock and by getting Stephen Merchant to pin him down and put sellotape around his face and calling him pig boy. This no bs either. Sellotaping anyone's face is dangerous. That is how far Gervais will go to get a laugh. Those flannimal books are weird. I heard that ITV paid a huge amount for the rites.

This would be great news for the Oscars if Ricky decided to do the hosting duties. Completely different change of pace and perhaps Larry David could do a skit with Ricky as well! Enough with the cornball Billy Crystal shtick please. Perhaps if Gervais hosts will will actually get to see the people who win the award get to speak their whole acceptance speeches instead of rudely getting cut off every single time! The producers of these shows all make the same mistake and think we want to see some type of time chewing montage, an over the top song and dance number opening, retarded theme movie showing all the actors that ever played Cowboys or some shit! That takes time away from why we tune in, to see who get's the awards and what they say when they get them. As for the comment that Hollywood "doesn't get" Ricky Gervais? That's why he managed to get all of those stars to be in his Extras's show. As for the US version of The Office being funnier than the original, you have got to be kidding me! The US version pales in comparison, and for me is unwatchable.
