the intro credits are the best part of the show. I'll keep watching but i'm not really clicking with it yet. I think its the cast, the bollocks about a great "ensemble" made me laugh, theres no real chemistry yet. The story and potential is keeping me watching, not the actors.

I downloaded the pilot when it was leaked (was it leaked?) all those months ago. I will have to check it out tomorrow but if it has been given a 2nd season then no doubt it will be shit, most things I like get cancelled. Will probably be a good thing if it is shit, I have to download most things I watch because of SHITTY TV in the UK. My ISP is already capping my speeds under their "fair usage policy" and most shows aint even started yet! Fuckers, I am not even a heavy downloader.

Premise: Vampires no longer need to fed on humans, so they can live among us. Why would humans ever accept this? They once did feed on humans, and there is no Statute of Limitations on murder. Is their past all forgiven? They have rights now? Wouldn't that kinda be like having tamed tigers walking the streets? Occasionally one will go all cat again. Just ask Sigfried and Roy. That said I liked the boobs.

The pilot was one of the worst unwatchable pieces of shit I've seen and I'm a Six Feet Under junkie. Six Feet Under is one of my favorite series of all time. True Blood is crap. The 2nd episode was a smidge better, but a smidge better than pure shit isn't all that great. I'm stunned they renewed it already and it only goes to prove that the Writers Strike has had a lasting effect on the industry. I don't think networks have caught up yet with the 4 months of no business. Maybe this show will get better. Alan Ball's a genius, but this one is way beneath him.

That's the world of a vampire. Amp it up...I'll keep watching. It's not great right now...but I think it has promise.

As a fan of LOST, Alias and the X-Files, I'm gonna give the first two episodes of Fringe a chance. From what I've heard, hopefully they will find their footing.

Also, can't wait for Heroes. It's going to keep me from going into convulsions until Lost returns in 2009.

The show is a huge turd of un-watchability. I loved SFU but this is so poorly written and acted that I can't believe it's coming from the same creative mind. Oh, and Anna Paquin is bad - as in give back your damn Oscar bad. I'm giving it 3 more episodes (I typically give a show from good writers 5 eps to sell me) but then I'm done with it if I don't see a marked improvement.

The question is, can they do anything with it?
by Domi'sInnerChild
Sep 17th, 2008
08:34:25 PM
It's been weak, but supposedly the dialog is bad because it's using the source material. Once that's gone, then it's on the writers. Good/Bad/Shades of gray vampires/monsters/supernatural is kind of dated now, but theoretically they can do something with it. I could live without the bang you over the head vampire rights = gay rights crap.

But the second episode seems much better. It's DVR'd and I caught quite a bit of it earlier. Much improved. But still has this sort of drowsy feeling that it can't shake off. The grandmother character is interesting, but the civil war vampire thing makes me think too much of a romance novel. I'll watch the whole thing and give it another chance. If anyone else hated the pilot and decided to pass on a second episode, give it another shot. It picks up and improves. And was that not too veiled implication of necrophilia she threw at Dr Phlox?

Its clear that the actors need to settle into there characters still, which i always notice i think the only person i've never noticed that with is the guy who plays dexter, he just was dexter from episode 1. I like all of the comments made so far because not one of you has said its a rip off of buffy or blade or any other vampire adaptation. It feels like a TV show of vampire masqurade set in a hick town. This show does not need the add any more gore and violence to it other wise it will be treading on the toes of buffy and blade. I don't want to watch another buffy or blade i want something fresh. For example : If they for any reason have to break into the tru blood factory or something because of some conspiracy i will stop watching !

But not great. And here's the kicker. I'll tell you why (unlike every other complaining asshole on this TB). I will say that some of the characters are weak. However, that can be changed. Also, some of the side storys are not the best, but again it's only the 2nd episode. There's plenty of time to tighten things up. What makes me watch the show is the main characters. To me, the storyline between Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer is very intriguing. Add to that, that both are GREAT actors, or at worst play these characters to a T. Even with the little idiosyncrasies they are right on. So now that they have a 2nd season for sure, I'm very interested where this show goes.

Like most, I thought the pilot was a BIG disappointment. 2nd ep was better, yes, but the real reason(s) the show was picked up are this:

1) Alan Ball's former agent Sue Naegle now runs HBO Entertainment.

2) What else does HBO have going on? Their other big motorcycle show, 1% is currently mired in a huge lawsuit. Would you place all your chips on a fading Entourage?

No.

I'm already paying for HBO, so figured I may as well check it out. It's not absolute dreck, yet not very compelling either. Pedestrian sums it up perfectly.

And what's up with Paquin? Why is she acting like she's in drama class? I've seen her in other stuff, so I know she's way more capable than what she's offering here.

Ep 3 is allegedly from vampire POV. Curious to see how that plays out, but I doubt I'm in it for the whole season if things aren't dramatically improved.

Second season - whoot!! I am anxious to how the character of Eric (he’s the blonde vampire in the previews) comes out. He’s one of the key players, the owner of Fangtasia and they really need to get him right!

Maybe it's because I love the books that I am not seeing the flaws so much, but I think the show is great. Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer definitely have some chemistry going. The only thing that is kind of turning me off is the cartoonish way the “vamps in bloodlust” are being portrayed, hissing and fake looking fangs etc.

Now if they'll just stick to the background and storylines set forth in the novels we'll be in for a treat.......

...hey, smarty...I was insinuating that the gaps between her teeth...which were discussed a few posts before mine...are huge...enough to fit my big fat motherfucking throbbing cock.

So shut the fuck up before I fuck your mom while I'm at it.

glad it got picked up.... i know theres a huge hoopla over the gratuitous sex, which is good , but i still think it pales with how good anna looks dressed in those short shorts and that tight white tee.....BANZAI......i never noticed, i guess those must be pretty big gaps, have to look next time. lol

anyone else notice how they toned down TARA in the 2nd episode, wasnt half as annoying as she was thruout the whole first episode..no rants..she needs to get with the brother and maybe she wont be so bitchy....seems to be lusting after him quite a bit

...because 1) that idiot David Milch abandoned the great "Deadwood" for it, and 2) it fucking made no sense and was a gigantic waste of its fairly competent cast (even the presence of the terrific Garret Dillahunt couldn't induce me to watch that muddled dreck). And soon Milch will try to flog what seems to be a lame rip-off of the original "Life on Mars." Jesus H. Christ. So yeah - I'm glad HBO deep-sixed JfC and put stuff like True Blood in its place. Believe me, it's an improvement.

Wasn't the series of novels True Blood based on 'young adult' novels?

Anna Pacquin's characters style reminds me a bit of the lead on 'The Closer'. Both obviously fake accents, but, I just don't care.

A point I keep waiting to come up on the show.. If vampires don't die, doesn't that mean they eventually own everything. Being a few hundred years old is a lot of time to aquire money, investments, property.

And don't vampires LIKE feeding on people?

NO....Charlaine Harris' southern Vampire novels are NOT Young Adult titles...they are Quasi romance/mystery novels (walk into a walmart and you'll occasionally see them in the Romance section in the book aisle) Dead Until Dark is the first of the 8 novels, each novels brings a new twist on the supernatural realm and how it interacts with ours.....vamps,weres,shapeshif ters and all kinds of "other" things walk the world and not all want to be "outed" as the Vamps have been...

more....Vamps can die..but yes long "life" means they do acquire assets, -although until recently they hid and couldn't inherit property, so they also need to find incomes, what do you do if you only come out at night? seems Vamps own a lot of nightclubs, casinos etc,,,,, Yes, they do like to drink blood, but the synthetic blood-TruBlood-makes it so they don't have to, and so they came out to the public as a new type of human, that happens to be allergic to sunlight and need blood to survive and are seen as less of a threat (by some) now that they don't NEED to feed on humans to survive-although they still feed on humans, only now the "victims" are willing "FangBangers"

Just as Six Feet Under became insufferable by the second season, so full of it's own pretension ...ugh..it was painful to watch and I couldn't continue watching as it wallowed in it's own glorified artificial misery...yuck what tripe.

Milch didn't abondon Deadwood for JFC. JFC was already in the works by HBO before the end of Season 2 of Deadwood. Believe me, HBO cut the cord on that series, not Milch.

Seen both episodes of True Blood, and it's not as good as I was hoping but it may improve. If it doesn't within the next couple of episodes, though, I'm giving up (especially since I don't have HBO and I have to drive to my friend's house to watch it). I agree with a previous poster, though... I miss the cheesiness of Moonlight. And one side comment... Anna Paquin as Sookie is fine (especially in those shorts, hot damn!), but the guy they cast as Bill is just... ugh, no thank you.

j2talk thanks for the clarifications. Intriguing concepts, imagine the story possibilities. Now that vamps are out, will people complain about their long life and potential financial advantage? Instead of anti-inheritance laws, anti-longevity property laws? Heavy government taxes after the first hundred years?

Politician on Vamp action. Ugly, ugly stuff.

There is a lot of comedy in this show to me. Deliberate comedy.
