Fast & Furious is going to do gangbusters at the box office because the first film is well regarded and there's a heavy nostalgia factor. xXx isn't a well loved movie. The Ice Cube sequel bombed because they replaced the star and because of the "Tomb Raider factor." It's a case of a film making a large amount of money even though the vast majority of those that saw it hated the film. I couldn't see a Cohen/Diesel reunion pic doing 100 million under any circumstances. I don't know why I bothered throwing this wisdom on an AICN board filled with know nothing shutins, but what the hell...

Ice Cube was badly cast, and a few scenes could have been tighter, but it was actually a better movie than the original XXX. And the special effects largely provided by ILM were very good at points. Why Vin Diesel refused to do XXX: State Of The Union, I'll never know, as it makes no sense it would have really been good for him!!! He should also do a Pacifier 2 and 3...as that was a fun family film. Why they haven't made more, considering the great box office, is yet another puzzling issue???

Vin wanted to do an original "superhero" franchise. There's a debate circulating in the internet about Vin's not yet done a character from a comic book/popular TV shows/Disney fairy tales/popular book series author franchise? Why not? He wants a career of a Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford , Bruce Willis and perhaps Clint Eastwood.... who can do it all, direct, comedy, romantic, horror, drama, animated, and action. To me, Vin has a potential to have a long career as those actors but I think he's got a potential to be like Clint Eastwood, an action actor, and director/writer. Clint has not done successfully comedy, romantic, just action but he's an even better director. I believe in my heart that Vin as an actor at heart whereas Clint is a director but who knows...Vin can do both. We haven't seen that yet....but it's going to change very soon with Hannibal. Vin is a cross between Clint (monosyllabic, squinty glare, gruff, not so handsome, tough guy action star) and Mel Gibson (being very spiritual/religious, has similar roles and facial expression, personality, mannerism, bi-polar/ADD-like temperment, child-like, addictive personality, esp. women, God, and a smoker.) Vin is a mixture of Clint (actor/director) and Mel (personality/actor/director). But I think he's more Mel Gibson than Clint....career wise and personality, political views and religion. Vin is iconic, smart and very successful because he's a new school version of old school. He's never done a franchise based on popular and successful franchise based on books/comics/popular tv shows.... Just original stuff like Mad Max or Dirty Harry or Die Hard with Riddick, Xander Cage and Dominic Furious Toretto. Vin talked to his father recently and his father told him "Vin, people will never get tired of you doing action." Vin is going all out action in the coming years and then direct HANNIBAL. Vin is a rebel and true artist and does not seem to be wanting to follow something that's going to guarantee success. Vin's tempted to do a Marvel villian and maybe he'll give in. Even if the franchise failed...Speed Racer, Daredevil, Electra, Sahara, etc the actors are doing just fine and still on top of their game and got to do what they want. Ben is directing, Jennifer garner, and Matt Mc Counaughey seems to be going strong in their career... Noticed that all the unknown/struggling actors are all propelled A-list or superstar status after they do a character based on these popular franchises. See what I'm talking about on the list below... Anne Rice/Interview with Vampire: Brad Pitt James Ellroy/LA Confidential: Russell Crowe Romeo and Juliet: Leonardo DiCaprio Planet of the Apes: Mark Wahlberg Elmore Leonard/Out of Sight: George Clooney Philip Dick/Blade Runner: Harrison Ford The Lord of The Ring: All actors involved... Harry Potter: Dan, Emily, Grint Robert Corman/Conan: Arnuld Schwarzenneger Robert Corman/Death Race 2000: Sylvester Stallone King Kong: catapaulted Naomi Watts and Jack Black career Mighty Joe Young: Charlize Theron Dark Angel: Jessica Alba Alias: Jennifer Garner The Pirate of the Carribeans: Johnny Depp The Men in Black: Will Smith X-men: Hugh Jackman. Superman: Brandon Routh Transformer: Shia Le Beouf Batman: Christian Bale Iron Man: Robert Downey Jr. Spiderman: Tobey McGuire Dirk Pitts Adventure /Sahara: Matthew Mc Couneghey Robert Ludlum/Jason Bourne: Matt Damon Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan: Ben Affleck Anything DC: See actors above Anything Marvel: Ditto. See actors above Anything Frank Miller: Mickey Rourke James Bond: Daniel Craig Now, all A-list actors involved are jumping the bandwagons ... it's all going to be up, up, uphills for these fellas. I think the movies over all is going to do non-original blockbusters. The Green Lantern: Luke Cage: Wolverine: GI Joe: The Avenger: The Watchmen: The Spirit: The A-Team: Star Trek: Wanted: 300: Sin City: Anything Frank Miller: Anything DC: See actors above Anything Marvel: Ditto. See actors above Anything Robert Ludlum, etc... James Bond: etc.... Vin, "Stan Lee" Diesel -Windmill71

First of all, I take exception to this bullshit where Herkkkules makes fun of Ice Cube for being "chubby." He's the father of this gangsta shit, and this the muthafuckin thanks he get? xXx2 was actually a little more fun than the first one. And don't call him Dough Boy.

Second, they did say in part 2 that Xander Cage died, and in fact the DVD includes a hilariously terrible short film showing him die. He's played not by Diesel but by his stunt double, so they mostly show him from the back. If I remember right he gets blown up and it shows a chunk of skin with the xXx tattoo laying on the cement.

Also, the end of part 2 sets it up for there to be a new agent, presumably played by Bill Murray or perhaps Judi (Chronicles of Riddick) Dench.

I am actually all for them making a part 3 even though the first one sucks and the second on is mediocre. If they could follow through on the braindead ridiculousness of the opening scenes of the first one it could be alot of fun. Vin Diesel as an Amp-drinking, x-treme sportin avenger of senators who "censor video games and rap music" is a hilarious idea. It's only when the plot kicked in that it just turned into a more boring than usual James Bond movie. I can't remember if Samuel L. died or not, but they could at least bring back Xzibit as the provider of vehicles. He's kind of like Q.

Finally I know they already used the Washington DC setting but I hope with Rob Cohen returning he will fulfill his promise to have Vin Diesel ride a mountain bike up the capital dome. Because America needs to heal.

p.s. Herc I spelled your name that way as a reference to Cube's classic debut album and in no way infer that I have any solid proof that you are in the Klan. so no offense please bud

Seriously, the guy went from the "Next Arnold" to the "Next Van Damme" in lightning speed. This guy was the next big action hero.

All he needed to do was pick halfway decent projects. He decided to pick a lot of big budget, Direct to DVD quality movies.

Deisel deciding to go back to remake all the movies he did that had moderate to good business is a last act of desperation to salvage his career. I don't think it is going to work. I don't think people will care about a XXX sequel. I don't see Fast & Furious doing all that well either. The series had already played itself out.

Are certain creators just unabashed fanboys of certain actors like Vin Diesel, Nic Cage, Nicole Kidman, Eddie Murphy, ect. With Vin Diesel is it them clinging to the tired old MTV-esque shoving the biracial hiphop thing down every ones throats till they choke?? Don't really care I prefer Hong Kong Cinema anyway at this point but just wondering why. They can't really be that profitable on home video to justify B movies with 100 mil budgets.

I think he doesnt like to be typecast as just an 'action hero', and thats why his career seems to be going nowhere as it probably comes down to poor script choice on his behalf. in XXX 2, there is a reference to Diesel's character as being dead and/or if I can recall correctly, presumed dead anyways, no bodies were found. What would be kewl would be for Diesel to become a renegade (for appearance) only in this 3rd installment. He could have found something going on with world shocking effect, and he's playing the bad guy so to speak, but really he's just trying to get close enough to screw it up. the "good guys" wouldn't know about that, so, there could be a battle of XXXs :P Anyways, having Diesel resurface and have an explanation behind it, would be nice and most of all, would fit.

It was worth stopping by just to read the hilarious "who is the bigger gansta rap god" by two of the whitest men in history.. you cant make this stuff up. Its pure GOLD.. I can't wait to hear your review of FUBU's autumn line on BET this month during a commercial break from the "BRIAN MCKNIGHT-A-THON"... by the way, Biggie was a fat fuck too, but a hell of a rap artist.. Ice Cube ought to embrace that shit get some more of that good fried chicken into him and dose up on some fucking buttermilk pancakes. The "ICE CUBE IS FAT" commentary shouldn't offend because it in no way diminishes his title of rap's "Daddy", unless of course its a personal thing, and you're taking offence to fat comments in general, then masquerading them as a defence for ICE CUBE... whatever it is... he may be a rap god, but he sure is a porker.

Cohen is nothing more than a reliable hack, just like Paul W.S. Anderson and Brett Ratner. All of them are the poor man's Michael Bay! These guys always get the call to direct when a reliable hack for a scriptwriter (and I'm glad I can't remember their names...besides there is enough shame in the dick sucking they did just to get the job). I bring this all up because I'm more worried about the quality of the film than the fact that Vin Diesel is rehashing old rolls. Yeah, it's an obvious sign of desperation when everything else has gone wrong in a film career. But I think if Diesel coughs up the cash to get a top level CAA agent, he'll get the opportunity to do more A-list work instead of B-list bullshit kiddie films for Disney -- yeah, they make money but no one respects them for it.

About Vin Diesel
by houbou
Sep 15th, 2008
09:20:03 PM
Ok, let's face it, Vin Diesel is.. Vin Diesel, not so much an actor, but a genre. So, when one writes a movie, and one has Vin Diesel in mind for the part, then he writes the part for Vin Diesel. What's I'm trying to say is that Vin Diesel is not an actor, but more like a performer. For the longest time, movies with Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, Steven Seagal, to name a few of these so called actors, was all about these actors performing roles which were written for them first and foremost. (Note: Got to give Will Smith some credits with Ali and Pursuit of Happyness, however). Now, if you take Dennis Quaid, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman, these are what I call, real actors. Why? Because when they immerse themselves in a role, you forget who they are, they are the characters they play. So, in the end, Vin Diesel has no range, no real "acting" talent. It doesn't mean he's not able to play a good movie, it just means that he's limited to roles made for him. He can't become a role. That's pretty much it in my honest opinion.

I laughed almost the whole way through! like the scene where he slid 500 ft on a dirt bike, then came up to a 50 ft tall fence and just bunny hopped it! classic comedy! what a piss poor script and terrible acting by everyone! sorry but an action star Vin is not!

I woke up a few times and was like...I could've just stayed home and played SSX. Then I woke up to the cool credits. Best part of the movie hands down.

Diesel always gives the impression of a poser. I had no problems buying Ice Cube as the antihero. Xxx1 was a total borefest.
