When he was talking about not having any ideas for another Indiana Jones movie... I can think of about 50 off the top of my head. He just doesn't seem to care anymore. It doesn't make any sense. It kind of sounds like nobody wants to stand up to him and let him know that these movies are damn near awful. He just needs someone else to step in and write a great Star Wars movie... then use less CG whenever possible. Real locations! How great would it be to see a battle in the rain with the steam from the lightsaber's creating trails. I think they did something like this in the good Clone Wars cartoon... I guess that proves my point already. You could make 100 Star Wars movies and let new people run wild with it. It would make Lucas a ridiculous amount of money with little effort on his part... seems like a win/win situation to me.

jesus Quint, the whole thing seemed to be nothing more than an excuse to bash the prequels.

I am so tempted to spoil the ending for you right now because of the constant bitching from you throughout the interview.

But I won't. I'll be a nice guy and let you discover it for yourself.

But you've got to stop attacking the prequels every time you talk about Star Wars. We get it, they weren't Empire. Get over it.

I was able to enjoy them for what they were rather than what my mind thought they should be. Maybe you should try that. Sure they have flaws, but so do the originals.

And kids loved the Clone Wars. I've seen the reviews and the critics are frankly way out of line. Boo hoo, Lucas and company made a movie for kids...wahh wahh wahh...well I'm 24 and again, I liked it.

If you don't like the prequel era films, that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but really, get over it. Believe me, when you reach the end of the game, you'll be wishing that Lucas had been the one to write the script.

It's not considered spoiling, is it?

If you recount spoilers from a comic book/novel that have been around for several weeks already?

And is it also considered a spoiler if you say that Starkiller dies at the end, because he wasn't in the original trilogy?

TFU isn't better than the prequels

In fact, I'd say it's not even as good as The Clone Wars, storywise I mean.

The game itself is fairly repetitive and can be very buggy. Frankly I'm a little disappointed.

Getting back to the story, I won't spoil it, but some of the things they do with the characters makes the movies seem irrelevant. Overall I'd rate Phantom Menace a lot higher than TFU as a story.

All the demo made me want to do is reload Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. First off, you get to use a keyboard and mouse. Second, you don't have to fight the shitty camera. Third, you actually have some control over your force powers since you're using a MOUSE. Another thing that pissed me off about TFU is the nigh indestructible Stormtroopers. They die if you so much as graze them with a force-pushed crate, but they can take half a dozen hits to the torso from your lightsaber without even blinking! This turd is a rental, at best.

Which is a shame as I was looking forward to this, but it was, frankly, crap. The graphics weren't all that, gameplay looked like it would become repetitive, but worst of all is the continued lack of respect to the original movies that fucks me off the most.

The very first time we ever see a lightsabre used it removes someone's arm. The first time EVER. So what happens when you swing a lightsabre at the enemies in this game. They fall over dead. In one piece. Sorry, but that's shit, I want to hack off limbs and heads, I want to stick a lightsabre into the abdomen of a stormtrooper and smell his innards boil.

remember all those limbs flying and entrails boiling when Luke went all agro on Jabba's skiff? Oh, yeah, I don't remember that because it never happened. What actually happened: two arms cut off with a little blood, fatty tissues from a Ton-ton, a hand cut off. In the demo, every time you hit an enemy with your lightsabER, they get a glowing-hot strike mark, just like when Anakin killed the dignitaries on Mustafar. I don't know what you were expecting, but you sure don't have any realistic expectations. But I'm impressed, you seem to have some kind of scent-producing computer peripheral that hasn't been released to the public yet.

The lack of limb dismemberment kills this game
by bullet3
Sep 15th, 2008
12:58:59 AM
The best thing about jedi outcast (with the limb dismemberment cheat) was how you could just run through an army of storm troopers and send heads, arms, legs flying, which was fucking awesome. Not being able to do that instantly cheapens the combat and makes the lightsaber seem weak.
bullet3
by JimmyJoe RedSky
Sep 15th, 2008
01:10:23 AM
i disagree - i will admit, some dismemberment would be cool - smoking limbs here and there - but not having any doesnt "cheapen the game" or make the saber "feel weak" based on my playing the demo - this sounds like a big game with a lot going on all around the player - the demo was a small taste - i didnt miss any severed limbs - in fact, the scortched bodies and ferocity of the attacks was pretty visceral and awesome - who's played this all the way through, maybe there are some arms and legs flying off

you do get to cut droids into pieces. And wield Force lightning. Jedi Outcast didn't intend to let you "run through an army of stormtroopers and send arms, legs flying," hence the necessity of a cheat to do it. It was a pretty awesome Star Wars game, and there have been more than few great ones, too.

I played it a little bit. RPGs aren't my thing, but I enjoyed watching my little brother play through it for the story elements. Plus I get to throw stormtroopers out into space with my awesome force powers...
KOTOR
by The StarWolf
Sep 15th, 2008
06:32:37 AM
Agreed. I've played both KOTOR games and they had their moments, but there were elements of the game mechanics which annoyed me. For example, these people have computer tech advanced enough for true AI, yet they don't have basic map systems? You should be able to walk to a console and say "give me a map of this city" and automatically get a map of all the relevant areas, with place names and the like. But, no ...

I got my hands on the game last week, finished it twice already. You obviously go into the game knowing at least somewhat how it will end, but there are also two endings (hence my two play-throughs). by I Dunno
Sep 15th, 2008
07:38:45 AM
First of all, I hate the style of the art/animation but that's just my personal preference. But while the Jedi were too weak in the Prequels, they were ridiculously superhuman in the series. Apparently Mace Windu is still alive because simply cutting his hands off and shooting him though a 100 story window wouldn't even slow him down. I realize it's a cartoon and it's supposed to be larger than life but tat was overkill.

I think the cartoon appealed to fanboys who were disappointed that the Jedi weren't all 'Superman on crank' in the prequels.

It's refreshing

to hear an actor take such an interest in Star Wars. If the lines aren't read in monotone, it'll be a big step up from the prequels. I wonder if Lucas' direction for the prequels was, "Faster, more intense, less emotion." I can't blame the actors so much. When you have to read a line like, "I truly, deeply love you," of course you can't take it seriously. BTW, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn't as bad as you guys like to whine. Yes, it was flawed. But, I actually liked what someone wrongly called a mortality "monologue." Please look up monologue. Anyway, the whole idea of life taking things away from us and sometimes giving us things after we thought it was finished with the giving was reflected in the silly alien, missing skull story. That's the movie's big flaw. Why couldn't it have been the statue of some god? C'mon. Watch Temple of Doom (one of the dumbest movies known to man) again, then you'll be a little nicer on KOTCS.

Whatever, I'm sorry, the whole notion of Vader having a secret apprentice at that young of an age...and after having been fucked up and rescued by Palpatine...that's just like him waiting around to get his ass kicked by Palpatine once he finds out about. The game should have been about CONTROLLING and PLAYING as DARTH VADER. That's what we want. Not some dumbass character made up for the game that now becomes part of canon. Give me a break. PC games and LucasArts
by Gungan Slayer
Sep 15th, 2008
09:38:50 AM
If you haven't noticed, LucasArts in recent years has shifted its strategy somewhat. Back in the old days they made a lot of great PC games (flight sims, graphic adventure, among others, etc). They've moved their focus more on consoles though, while on few occasions releasing a PC version. Initial reviews of this game, on all consoles, isn't exactly stellar right now, especially considering all the hype that this game has been generating. Word on the street is that LucasArts' hyped up non-Star Wars game "Fracture" blows chuncks as well too.

by Sith Witch
Sep 15th, 2008
09:51:31 AM
Quint keeps bashing it by going on a monologue to defend his point-of-view. Why can't Star Wars be occasionally more breezy? That only makes the dark moments register all the more tonally.

I totally loved The Clone Wars movie, feeling it has the same spirit of A New Hope. So what if Ashoka calls Skywalker "Sky-Guy"? And you're telling me someone wouldn't give a similar nickname to someone in real-life with a name like Skywalker? I fail to see what was so juvenile about it. Lack of tension maybe, but at times rather dark, and otherwise simply fun!

You think Vader is going to get his ass kicked when Palpatine finds out about the Secret Apprentice?

Purely from a canonical perspective, you would understand that Vader hiding something from Palpatine is never successful. Sure, it may seem like it's working, but Palpatine most likely already knows and is letting Vader proceed.

PALPATINE suggested using the son of Kento Marek and raising him in the ways of the Dark Side of the Force. PALPATINE made up this lie of the "Secret Apprentice." PALPATINE planned to use the Apprentice to draw out the Rebellion leaders. PALPATINE was behind everything.

Search your feelings: you know this to be true.

Over the prequels. Seriously, it's like an unhealthy obsession with you. You are becoming Herbert Lom to Lucas Clouseau.

Sam Witwer offers several well thought out arguments on what worked. He also gets to the heart of the matter of why you have a hard problem with the Prequels and other Lucas offerings-you had a "kwel" verison in your head the whole time while you were waiting. for the prequels. I can almost guarantee that you are a Timothy Zahn lover.

I think the prequels could have been PERFECT and you'd still have a bunch of butthurt 30-somethings bitching about it not being the movie they envisioned when they were playing Star Wars with their action figures in the back yard 20 years ago.

Lucas can't win with this crowd, so he doesn't even try. That's fine. I like the prequels, I like most of the games, and the only Star Wars stories I've HATED were the most recent EU series, and "Children of the Jedi", which just sucked in every way possible.

The dialogue doesn't feel nearly as lifeless, the storyline isn't nearly as ridiculous, there aren't ginormous plot holes, the action feels more involving. Notice the bluish-light underneath the platforms that Anakin and Obi-Wan ride across the lava? Those repulsors are designed to repel intense heat, thus making them a functional vehicle for travel in the area. Yes I had to read about that in the visual dictionary, but from a visual standpoint alone I could figure out what the intense blue energy was for. I'd love to know what kind of plot holes exist because I've never encountered them. You're certainly entitled to your opinions and I'll not be whiny about it, but I just had to point out the factoid on the platforms and question how something I see as airtight can possibly have plot holes.

NEEDS to have this storyline as a part of it. this Sam guy is already the Starkiller character. the guy who does the "Chad Vader" you tube character is the new voice for VADER in the game... and he does a superb job at it. put some big guy in the costume and you have Darth Crispy in the show. all you need is to get Ian Mcdirmad and Jimmy Smits to reprise thier roles, and you only need them for guest appearances. the whole story doesnt need to revolve around Starkiller... but you should see him every few episodes. the show takes place during the same time period, and the game is considered canon. so it needs to be a part of the series. yes?

Unless you're REALLY into MMO's and popcap games. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooters on PC as much as anyone else, but Consoles have it down right now in the market. More affordable (as in you don't have to upgrade them for every other new release that comes out), and more user friendly for the general public. I mean, seriously, if you don't know squat about PC's, isn't it infinitely easier to simply pop in a disk and play it? I run a video game store (a BIG one) and I can tell you. After being a PRIMARILY software based store, and then changing to an all around GAME store (after the buy out), Consoles destroy the PC market everytime. Pc's scare/intimidate the layman/woman. consoles are more accessible, and easier for parents to monitor. I know there will be flames heading my way, but take it from someone who watches this dynamic at work EVERY DAY. PC Gaming will NEVER go away (thank god), but it will never be as big as it was in the 90's/early 2000's. That's why there are a lot of PC versions of titles coming out months after the console release, if at all. A fact, sad as it is, it is still a fact.

I understand what you're saying. I really do. But the "Oh my god people seem to be getting stupider.." attitude is what STOPS new PC gamers in their tracks. It steers them toward Consoles. PC's alos don't have ONE company saying why they should game on a PC vs. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony all having individual advertising doing exactly that. The PC "genre" has no spokesman, other than US. And WE scare soccer moms (grin). Us PC guys have transformed from the nerdy pocket protecter wearing, harmless wormy guy stuffed in a locker, to the Intimidating know-it-all who sneers at anyone not knowing how to install a video card. I blame Best Buy (hehe). Seriously tho. I watch people of EVERY age walk out of my shop with Wii's, having never bought a console before, and they're smiling like motherfuckers. If the PC gaming world is going to survive, they need a Miyamoto in their corner of the ring. The reason this is important, is that sonner or later, you're only going to see innovation going straight to consoles, while we're stuck playing cheap knock-offs of Civilization, Sims 23, WWII shooter # 3013, and stupid tetris rip-offs for the rest of ourn lives. At least, that's what's on MY PC shelves right now. Don't get me wrong, I love my Xbox 360. BUT, I ALSO love playing Portal on my PC. It's just cheaper to buy console right now. At least when I'm done with my games, I can trade 'em in. Can't do that with PC....

A game where you expend 60% of the time just running, 35% reading text and the remaining 5% programming a combat that you are just limited to watch with little control over it. Give me Jedi Outcast and Rogue Squadron II any time, with some of the most satisfactory and visceral combat sequences ever crafted in any video game.

It's hack and slash cloned enemies, fight a boss. repeat the process. Sounds like Double Dragon haha. It can also be beaten in less than 10 hours and has no replay value. Most critic's are giving it an average of 7 and X-play gave it a 2 outta 5. All the hype for a game you can beat in a weekend. Yet another flop for lucasarts

When it gets down to it. This is no different than say Double Dragon. Wait bare with me, before you start getting angry. In Double Dragon you fight from level to level, fighting the same cloned enemies, until you reach a boss. This process is repeated. Games like Ninja Gaiden 2 and this one. Are basically doing the samething. Only it's masked with amazing 3-D graphics and special abilities. Which yes are fun. If not shallow. You can beat this game in a weekend or less. There's nothing wrong with that. It's a fun Arcade game, but if you're spending $63 dollars and looking for more depth in your game. You're not gonna find it here. This game is a gamefly or rent. IGN gave it a 7 and 9 out of 10 times IGN is right. People get angry at IGN because they're currently enjoying the game and having a lot of fun. So of course, wth is IGN talking about? No one is saying the game is bad. It's good, but what are it's merits? Except some fun over a weekend. I want a game to last as long as possible. Gears of War single player was short, but I'm still playing the multiplayer to this day. I got my money's worth. SW TFU should have added some online play, minigames. Give us some extras Lucasarts. These hack and slash games where you kill cloned enemies over and over again was cute 15 years ago, but I think today's gamers expect more. Well apparently not all gamers. As you see below. I guess some of you are easily satisfied with 10 hrs of mindless fun. I would be too. If it wasn't $59.99! G4's X-play butchered it with a Lightsaber! 2 out of 5 stars. They called it glitchy and repetitive, not to mention halfassed. They also said that the take down the Star Destroyer part, what should have been the most kick ass moment of the game, was a huge letdown. Also that the euphoria engine felt limited and was more like a test demo for the euphoria engine. Yes folks, another game that got hyped with making of specials. That made it seem like something amazing that would take gaming to the next level, turns out to be another dud. Also Games like Halo and Gears that have online play are hardly repetitive. The outcome and comradity between friends online is always different. Games that quickly end with no replay value are a waste of money. Unless they cost under $20 bucks. Okay so You wanted this game to be so amazing and the start of a wonderful new SW franchise. Here comes this critic and dashes your hopes and dreams right down the tubes. You take it personal and unleash your force powers at this site. As if they did it on purpose. The critic is just doing his job and being as honest as he can. It also pisses you off that many of us agree with the critic and let that decide for us. They should try the game for themselves. That's a fair arguement, but at the sametime you're assuming that we're all mindless drones that fall in line. Don't insult us. We're all long time gamers here. It's not like we have no idea what this game will be like, most have seen the preview videos, played the demo. We've all play bad games. We all know how this goes. If 1000 people tried an apple pie and said it taste bad, most likely it taste bad. This game is getting more or less medicocre scores across the board. The reality is, this game can be finished in 8 to 10 hrs and has no replay value, unless you enjoy replaying the same game over and over again. That's a fact. There's no way around that. Now you must ask yourself. If you're the type of gamer that's willing to pay 59.99 that kind of game. If you are. By all means buy the game. If you're not, wait till it hits the bargain bin. What's the problem folks? Most of the critic bashers here will realize in a week or so, that SW TFU wasn't worth $59.99. Right now they're all caught up in the hype and excitement and having a blast playing it. Once that wears off and they're tired of the game. They'll realize. Hey I beat this game real quick and other than flashy graphics and explosions. There wasn't much to this game. You see, some of us here are quicker and wiser than you. We see these faults in a game way before you do. I think a game like GTA IV deserved a 10. At least from a quantity standpoint. You had 60+ hours of gameplay. Replay value galore and a sick amount of online modes. That put it over the top imo. Just because you tired of the game. Doesn't mean it didn't deserve a 10. I can always go back to GTA IV and find something to do. I don't have to follow a predetermined path and have so many online play modes. That's what SW TFU needed, but instead they relied on flashy graphics and gimmicks. The saddest part is you can actually kind of rate SW TFU based on the demo. The demo was killing cloned enemies and fight a boss. Other than the story. What else happens in SW TFU? I guess you can say force upgrades. Different stages and bosses, playing as vader, but I got the basics down by playing the demo. I run around hacking and slashing, using force powers over and over again.

...how awesome it was when you played Dark Forces for the first time and found yourself firing on stormtroopers with a real Star Wars blaster and were backed up by snippets of the John Williams score?

Also, how gobsmacked you were in Dark Forces II in that level where you had to fight your way through a huge starship, fuck up its drive system and then make your way back out before the ship, which had flipped upside down Poseidon style, crashed?

Good times, good times...

It's a problem. It's a problem because over the course of three prequel movies we were shown Jedi who were so rigidly bound by tradition that they couldn't see their doom circling around them, and who were VERY jealous of their rankings.

Given that, and Anakin's outrage that he was not awarded the rank of Jedi Master, do you think he would TOLERATE some punk kid he was training calling him a mocking nickname? Do you think the other Jedi would?

It's a problem because the characterization is completely off - a student eager to be a Jedi would practically WORSHIP their teacher (at least at first), not mock them. And Anakin and the other Jedi would not react well to the mockery.

glad you liked TFU unlike many reviewers and gamers who bashed the game. It looked to have so much potentual but i'm not shelling out 60 bucks for a game which demo did not impress me.As for NG, if you are refering to the PS3 reboot Ninja Gaiden sigma, i can understand to some degree regarding your disapointment but i prefered NG2 overall great new weapons, challenging bosses and sweet graphics. It received high ratings overall but since team ninja left tecmo, that's the last you'll hear of Ryu Hayabusa.

Oh and Orionangels, what game doesn't have cloned enemies? You do recall those annoying lil imps in Halo 3 that often pop up oh and not to mention the "Grubs" from GoW only one who slightly stood apart from the rest was Raam..and he's the final boss. :0P

Some guys actually went and remade some of the levels of Dark Forces 1 but they weren't able to finish the whole game for Quake 3 engine. Hopefully someone picks that up and finishes it because what was done was amazing and even better than the original!!

But I would REALLY like to see them do a remake of Jedi Knight using the Crytek engine or the Unreal engine to give us an update on an already awesome, classic game. Cmon, Jedi Knight, Outcast, and Jedi Academy got it right (mostly) with first person lightsaber combat.

The Wii lightsaber game is a shitty fighting game. I want true 1:1 lightsaber battles in the first person, dammit!!!

Ashoka is still a youngling, so the older Masters are going to give her and her kind a certain degree of license over something as simple as a nickname. In fact, it's mentioned within the story that Yoda purposely assigned Ashoka to Anakin as a test of his Guidance skills. Yoda has to know that a youngling of her age is bound to be a bit mouthy and/or cocky, perfect for a Master he's wanting to refine, who's just as guilty of those same qualities.
