Did a muslim rape you in the past? I'm just asking, because you sure don't miss any opportunity to get back at them...

I guess the only reason why Alan Ball didn't make a movie about the condition of women in arabic countries is because he's not that familiar with it. Like he said, the book did touch him for whatever reason, it might just be because it happened in an american city. As for movies about the condition of women in farabic countries, there are actually plenty of them, most of them directed by arab women. There's been Persepolis, recently (well, Marjane Satrapy didn't really direct it, but you get the point), Caramel (by Nadine Labaki) was presented at the Cannes festival, MaRock (by Laïla Marrakchi), Offside (by Jafar Panahi), about a group of women being supporters of a soccer team. Anyway, there are plenty of these movies, but I'm sure you won't look at any of them... ever...

Well, the secret's out; us Muslims meet once a week for an ongoing series of discussions called "Dick Over ColWTH and Get a Good Laugh Over It". So far it seems to be working. Feel free to join us. Mondays at 7 PM (so no one misses Gossip Girl), we serve punch and baklava. ^_^

I'm not arabic or muslim, before you ask... I just love movies and don't take every opportunity I get to bitch and moan about politics in movie talkbacks.

A dramatic/comedic look at a family knee deep in in the gore of the horror movie industry.

You read it here first.

It's like the Sopranos but all the deaths are fake.

Been waiting way too long to finally see this.

I bet many of those cuts were made because the MPAA wouldn't stop bitching. Granted, it's a touchy subject, but the MPAA just piss me off.

from today's AP Newswire:

By JOSEF FEDERMAN, Associated Press Writer

Tue Sep 9, 3:28 PM ET

JERUSALEM - A performer with the famed Alvin Ailey dance troupe on Tuesday said he was twice forced to perform steps for Israeli airport security officers to prove his identity before he was permitted to enter the country.

Abdur-Rahim Jackson, an eight-year veteran of the dance ensemble, said he was singled out by Israel's renowned airport security because he has a Muslim name. He called the experience embarrassing and said at one point, one of the officers even suggested he change his name.

"To be greeted like this because of my name, it took me back a little bit," said Jackson, who is black.

Israel is the first stop on a six-nation tour celebrating the New York-based dance company's 50th anniversary. Earlier this year, Congress passed a resolution calling the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater a "vital American cultural ambassador to the world."

Jackson said he was pulled aside from other members of the troupe when they arrived at Israel's international airport on Sunday night. He said he was taken to a holding room, where he was asked about the origins of his name. When he explained he was part of the dance group, he was asked to perform.

"I stood up. I asked what type of dance?" he explained. "He said, "Just do anything.' I just moved around."

Minutes later, he said a female officer put him through a similar interrogation and asked him to dance again.

"The only time I'm really expected to dance is when I'm performing," he said.

Jackson said he received his name because his father was a convert to Islam. Jackson said he was not raised a Muslim, does not consider himself religious and is engaged to a Jewish woman in the troupe who has relatives in Israel.

I salute you, sir. And I'll probably watch anything Alan Ball ever does. If you say this is his best work as a writer, I'm fucking there. (Plus, miss Collete is always a pleasure). Cheers.

Not necessarily everyone around here, but it seems like I've seen a lot of critics say that's the episode that turned them off of SFU. Now the show had its problems, but that was one of the most gripping hours of TV I've ever seen.

I thought that was one of the top five best episodes of the series. The fist time I saw it, I was in complete suspense the entire time. Yes, the series had its share of problems, and most of them came from that season, but that episode itself was terrific.

Freak man, I realize you're not so much an actual, objective movie critic as you are a sweaty palmed fanboy, but next time leave all the self conscious gushing out. It makes you look cheap, like a whore.

Aaron Eckhardt was on Jimmy Kimmel to talk about this movie and it was fucking hilarious. Kimmel was totally going after him 'cause Eckhardt was trying to downplay his role in this movie playing a pederast, but Kimmel kept poking him - "You're a Mormon, are your parents going to see it?" I doubt he will ever make a movie like this again now that his box office cred is finally established.

The underbelly of suburban life is hardly virgin territory. Y'know, because if you have a conservative ex military type in the neighborhood, he's probably a self loathing closeted homosexual and if you have a conservative guy living nearby who speaks to your daughter, he's probably obsessed with deflowering her. Um, yeah. I'm a fan of Ball's work and I loved 6FU down to the final heart breakingly beautiful moment. But, he can sometimes lose me with the occasional after school special moralizing. I guess living in a completely homogenous political environment makes one quite comfortable drawing absurdly rare caricatures about the other side and pitching them as the norm. That's fine and all, whatever floats your boat. But, geez: BORRRRING. I just watched my first five minutes of Generation Kill and it was hilariously lame. All the cardboard cutouts were present and accounted for. The guy who is full of bloodlust and just wants to kill. The guy who says, "What are we even doing here man?" Sigh. This show writes itself. I wish Alan would aim higher, because he has an amazing voice for troubled characters.
