I mean, apart from the first 2 Mad Max films, which are so popular as to be an anomaly in the genre anyway. We could still be making great genre films. Alas, the Australian film industry is dominated by pretentious arthouse wankers intent on making boring naval gazing pieces of shit that no one wants to watch. There is a backlash in the wind, though, so hopefully the remake of "Razorback" that I'd love to get off the ground might be feasible.
This is a fantastic documentary

I'm surprised by the amount of aussies i meet here in london who have never heard of it.

Yeah I think the tide is about to turn. The kiwi's have been kicking your arse a bit recently. Saying that you have given the world in recent times Alex Proyas and Andrew Dominik!

Not because its homophobic, but because its a funny classification. This is actually playing next week at my favorite cinema, already intended on checking it out. I've seen most of the films it discusses, Man from Hong Kong, Death Camp Thatcher, Mad Max, etc. Good stuff.

It's one of the worst films ever conceived. I'm embarrassed that it came out of my country.

The Man From Hong Kong is great, they should totally do "Next of Kin" or "Patrick" as well. Great ozploitation classics!

I've seen Not Quite Hollywood twice. It gets better on the second viewing. It's that good. Technically, the film is brilliant. Sounds and looks wonderful (they restored many of the jawdropping genre clips from the masters). Razor sharp editing. Great soundtrack. Full of fascinating filmmaking anecdotes. It's a flick for geeks like us. Not Quite Hollywood is a lot like the movies it depicts.. sleazy, violent, dangerous and all about giving the audience a good time. There is more (top and bottom shelf) nudity in the first 20 minutes of this film than Lemon Popsicle 1 through to 4. It heavily features Tarantino at his geekfrenzy, manic best. If any hater wants to debate why the world would be a better place without QT I'm all ears. This flick has pretty much bombed in Australia. Please see it. You'll thank me later. And if you think I'm a plant, think again. I'm making a doco on the Australian film industry. Nothing But The Struth. Not Quite Hollywood is the best Australian film of the year. It won't change your life, it's just pure entertainment.

They didn't have the marketing budget for tv spots. Madman got great press and Hartley worked his ass off doing interviews and Q&As with the audience all across Australia. The website and trailer are excellent. And most of all, it's a great film that is the cinematic equivalent of a Christina Ricci titty fuck. Well received by critics, it deserves to do well at the box office, but sparing that, it will make a killing on dvd (which I'm told will be packed with extras). If you believe in the spirit of AICN, this flick will be on constant rotation on your dvd player.
