This is good, though. ER deserves a decent send-off in its final season. I wouldn't be surprised if they even managed to wrangle a cameo from Clooney like they did when Hathaway left the show.

Have Clooney's character with Julianna Margulies' character drive through Chicago and get in a car crash or something. Otherwise I gave up on doctor shows a long time ago. There's only so many depressing episodes I can watch.

The two episodes where he died (the first being where his death is announced to the staff, the second where we flash back and watch him slowly fade away in Hawaii) are probably the best couple of hours of TV I ever watched.

(in an ST ELSWHERE style). The first five seasons were machine-tooled TV, and the series deserves a decent send-off. I bet Clooney turns up to say 'hi' along the way, tho Edwards deserves a little better - he was the moral centre of the show (an idea nicked from the longrunning BBC medical drama CASUALTY, all you Charlie Fairhead fans out there) and it was weakened when the original team started moving on, but was hurt hardest by the departure of Edwards.

If William H Macy came back, I'd DEFINITELY watch again. Leave Clooney out of it though. I didn't even like him before he was famous. All I see when he's on screen are his characters from The Facts of Life and Roseanne. I just can't take the guy seriously. It would be like if they gave John Stamos a role on ER. (Insert irony here.)

Wasn't there an episode where Howie Mandel's character has some sort of really weird brush with the supernatural like that? They could totally use that sort of storyline to bring back Edwards. Better yet, do it like the great scene from The Simpsons when Bleeding Gums Murphy's ghost is joined by Darth Vader and the voice from CNN. One of the living doctors has a near-death experience and get a visit from Dr. Green, Goose AND Gilbert Lowell!!! Forget gold, it would be RATINGS LATINUM!!!

Then they better drag Paul McCrane's Dr. Romano from the grave. He was the only reason I watched ER after most of the original cast left.

I don't care how they bring him back, just find a way. Do it "A Christmas Carol" style. Have the three sprites of the "Rocket" visit a cast member. Those three sprites could be Sneaking Little Shit Romano, from the early days, Arrogant Prick Romano, after he became Chief of Staff and finally, Out of his Fucking Mind Romano, after he lost his arm(twice) and was demoted to the ER.

did die on one episode and he went to Purgatory. Great show.

The St Elsewhere ending would make sense if ER did it too. I always thought that was kind of the point they were making at the end of St Elsewhere. That whatever Hospital shows that followed would simply be the same kid imagining more stories on another day, but with different people.

several reasons. They find Giardello's shooter, they think he's going to pull through fine, then bam, he's gone. Gaffney, and Barnfather, who were major league jerks from day one never got theirs. And, was it the series finale or this movie where Bayliss gets arrested? All the things that are supposed to happen, the good guys win, etc. didn't that's why it was great, and sucked at the same time.

We've got the slow, painful cancer death of Greene. I remember the death of Lucy because I didn't remember them telegraphing it in the media anywhere. I was just like, "Holy shit, they're not gonna be able to revive her." The aforementioned Gant suicide.

And then, the death that made me laugh out loud at the ludicrousness of it all: Romano gets a helicopter dropped on him. I still look back at that as my own personal "shark jumping" moment. But I wasn't mad. I just laughed and laughed. Then, Carter's adventures in Africa sealed the deal for me and pretty much ended my interest. But I'd still like to see the old cast return.

That's exactly why, GCS...

And Bayliss does get arrested in the movie (he confesses to Pembleton on the rooftoop). It makes it difficult to watch the show in reruns, knowing the fates of the characters (though the whole series was dark, so I guess if I was expecting a happy reunion, I was deluded). The card game at the end was great for so many reasons, though.
Clooney + ER + Final Ep/Season = Class Act

Clooney is a star today, but with out shows like The Facts Of LIfe, Roseanne, and of course his star making turn on ER, he would not be who he is today... do a Classy One, and return to ER, if only for the final episode, in the last minutes, etc... The would show class, gratitude and respect... I will be interested to see if he is busy those days, with a new hotty or on set...

it will be kept quiet. This is after all NBC whose marketing department knows only one way to promote a show: "stay tuned for an all-new [fill in show name here], with special guest star [fill in famous actor name here]."

I remember a couple of years ago NBC was promoting one episode like crazy declaring "Noah Wyle returns to ER". He WAS in the episode - the last 5 seconds. And he didn't return to the ER, he was still in Africa. After all that build-up all we got was a shot of him in a helicopter at the very end of the episode. I wonder if those who tuned in just to see Carter, and got pissed because he really wasn't in the episode, felt once bitten, twice shy the next week when Wyle was a big part of that episode.

If Edwards' return is a flashback, will anyone comment on how different he looks? "Hey Mark, rough night last night? Geez dude, looks like you aged at least 7 years overnight".

"will anyone comment on how different he looks"?
