Did you get to see "Let The Right One In" at Frightfest? I've heard nothing but good things about it but couldn't make the screening.

Gregg Bishop’s first film, The Other Side, is an inventive action-packed debut that I recommend to almost anyone I encounter. It’s on DVD. Definitely check it out. I’m really looking forward to Dance of the Dead.

I’m glad to see someone else with more or less the same opinion of The Midnight Meat Train. I thought it was dull aside from some really cool point of view shots. The people I talked to afterward really liked it and I just scratched my head. I think it appeals more to the Fangoria crowd.

Let The Right One In is fantastic. I hope it gets a wide release. It’s more than worth going out of your way to see.

Good work, Major Calm.

I did, indeed, see Let The Right One In at this year's Frightfest and will be reviewing it in the next part of my coverage of the festival. But I can tell you now to keep your excitement level at full beam. It is nothing short of a masterpiece and easily the best film I've seen all year. Please check back in the next few days for a more comprehensive review.

Seems like it would be a good idea to put these Zombie projects on the back burner. Give it a rest for a decade or so.

I think it sounds great and can´t wait to see it. I saw "Let the right one" back in february at the Gothenburg film festival and it is truly great! Definitely the first time we swedes got a horror film right. I wrote about it a while back at "Last Blog On The Left" if anyone wanna check it out: http://svearikeslag.se/movie/w ordpress/?m=200805
"Cold Prey’s epic cinematic scale..."

Are you fucking kidding me?! COLD PREY was, at best, a small, mediocre slasher film with absolutely no scares whatsoever. Whoever shot it did a nice job and the acting was not terrible, but the storytelling was awful, the bad guy useless, and (once again) no scares.

Can we please please please have a moratorium on "_________ of the Dead" titles? It's starting to make my head hurt.

Dance of the Dead...again a zombie ripof film, the dead need a rest. Cuz this film sucked..big time. Only 12 year olds will find thisa flick "fresh and inventive". "great little touches always keeping the proceedings fresh – our heroes find refuge in a large house surrounded by the undead, only to discover that they’re holed up in a funeral home" -What...you never saw "Return of the Living Dead"? "Bishop’s cannily inventive direction is largely to thank for the ride – the zombies don’t just rise from the grave, they leap from it with animal-like grace and ferocity, bounding at speed after their prey" -What...you never saw Peter Jackson's "BrainDead"(Dead/Alive)? And all round... What...you never saw "Night of the Creeps"? MNMT kills this crap zombie flick in so many ways...so dude...how old are you?

Well, good reviews, well written, plot details, overviews, arguements for and against... encore sir, encore. And more to the point, wish I could have made it, girlfriends birthday same weekend and she didn't like the thought of four days of horror flicks. And more to the point... Martyrs?!?!?!?!?!

I'm 36, have an extensive knowledge of all genres of film and have an in depth knowledge of the process of filmmaking having worked in the industry for 18 years (not in a studio, marketing firm or movie production company I hasten to add before I am accused of being a plant). Not that I fully appreciate why that is relevant. I'm totally with you on Return of the Living Dead and Dead Alive. Both are great movies and classics in the genre but what you have to take into consideration is that both these films are between 15 - 23 years old. With the recent deluge of j-horror and 'torture porn', a reversion to 80's-style comedy horror IS fresh and Gregg Bishop is, without question, a very skilled filmmaker working inventively with a very small budget. All of the nods to the films you mention (as well as countless others) are very deliberate references and succeed in being amusing and pleasing fans of those movies in equal measure. As to your opinion of the film, all I can say is that the beauty of talkbacks such as these is to give potential audience members a broad range of views. My opinion is merely one opinion and I don't expect all to agree. What I would say is that general feedback for this particular film, from audiences and critics alike, has been very positive so I am pretty sure I am not alone in liking it. Regardless this does not make your opinion any less relevant. I hope that this answers your question.
