The anime was definitely fun to watch, especially in the first 3 or 4 seasons. Season 5 went to shit...like the movie apparently. Just another example of a franchise that really could have been badass if they had stuck with more asian martial artists and tried to take the damn thing seriously. Justin Chatwin is NOT gokou. I agree with onezeroone, it should have gotten the stylized aniime treatment. The Wachowski's would have been better off adapting this than speed racer, since they stole so much of the style of the series to put in their Matrix flicks (EXAMPLE: When Smith slams Neo in part 3 into the ground, that's pretty much a scene by scene recreation of Recoom slamming Vegeta in the SAIYAN SAGA..no shit!!!!!) Too bad this will never be fully realized.

Why doesn't it click that this is a Dragonball movie not a Dragonball Z movie. Dragonball was a lot more kiddy and kid friendly than DBZ and this is most likely going to be a movie geared towards kids not fans of of Akira Toriyama, the manga or anime. This won't even be geared for the cartoon network/FUNimation crowd. The studio saw a sucessfull and marketable franchise that they want to use to sell toys. This isn't being made for otaku fans of DB, DBZ, or DBGT. Realize this movie for what it is and quit crying because Vegita, Cell, Buu Trunks, ect aren't in it. They were never in Dragonball in the first place. Realize this is a kids movie and move on.

Dragonball was always like playing "sword fight" in your back yard with your best friend. You would make up goofy stories to act out and would always try to top each others special "skills" by always coming up with some more outrageous. i remember sitting with a friend while he was in "geek-mode" watching DBZ, anyway....i sat with him, gritted my teeth and decided to put up with what i was watching. anyway, the episode starts off while hes in the middle of a fight....and i shit you not, seemingly the WHOLE episode was him charging a "Spirit Bomb" er whatever....and when he FINALLY did it i believe (if i remember correctly) that it did almost nothing to his opponent, and he continued to fight him in the next episode er some shit.

The original Dragonball was great. I'll still defend it. It was funny. Unfortunately, people seem to be the least familiar with it. "Don'T got eNuff X-treem fightin'", I guess. Dragonball Z I can't really defend. It started taking itself too seriously and the dragged-out fight scenes were annoying. Most of us know that Toriyama wanted to end Z early on, but Bandai forced him to continue making it. Toriyama finally had enough and quit, and then we got that GT garbage (which Toriyama had very little to do with). And yes, this live-action movie looks like crap. It will be ridiculed in Asia just like Godzilla 1998 was.

I've been one of the hardcoriest, nerdiest, long-time fans of the DB/DBZ/DBGT Universe(s), and you're telling me that a live action endeavor could fill in the gigantic shoes of Akira's apex creations? After hearing of the casting and crew behind this effort [namely James Wong qualifying to direct this with such high-caliber action titles under his belt as... The One and Final Destination?] half of my face went numb because I thought I underwent a mild heart attack. With $100 million riding on this, I would say add maybe 50% of that to the net budget, call up Jimbob Cameron/Michael Bay and utilize some of that new tech they're dropping on Avatar with interactive CG characters. Or ILM can have their hand at it if you can flow that into the budget with success. It'll be like the Hulk/Iron Man mixing real characters with digital ones, except a thousand more explosions and a serious amount of eye candy to go with all the action involved. Because we ARE dealing with arguably the greatest action cartoon/manga series of all time here. I will be damned if I can ever see Justin Chatwin pulling off a Kamehameha or Spirit Bomb without either cringing or completely shitting my pants on my way out of the theater. It will probably be bad but who cares, it's Dragonball! I love all the long fights in the toon. No way that can happen in a movie but I hope they attempt to fight right in the movie. I hate quick cuts and extreme zoom shots. I want a pull back to see all the action whether it looks right or not.

Ok, I’m not a big fan of Dragon Ball but I enjoyed it enough to NOT hate it. It was ok, but to those DBZ fans; I am truly sorry for what they are going to get. This is going to suck more that 10 hookers on a senator’s dick. Holy fucking shit! Picollo looks more like a fucking albino demon than a green alien. But the entire look of the cast seems just so wrong, and the vibe that is coming out really isn’t helping much either. Might as well rename this movie DISASTER MOVIE 2: DRAGONBALL. This looks like just another movie that Hollywood has gotten its greedy hands on and just Americanized the shit out of it. DAMN YOU HOLLYWOOD! I was actually looking curious to see it but then as soon as some of the images started popping up online, every bit of inclination of watching it went to Hell. Its like meeting a do-able chick at the club, hooking up, going to her place and finding out the she is a he. Just plain awful. Serious, if you can’t do justice to the source material or improve it, then don’t do it at all. This movie is gonna blow chunks.
