I can't wait for Aronofsky's The Wrestler. He's one of the most interesting film makers working in the industry. I usually sit through credits out of respect for every single person that made it, but here they've given me something apparently great to listen to whilst I do that.

Mrs. Aronofsky, great grade school teacher. But Jared Leto as a Coney Island Jew? The biggest of some questionable casting moves. Hope this works out well.

I keed, I keed. Springsteen is cool. I like how he rolls. Not necessarily a big fan of his music but I appreciate it, and like that he's outspokenly progressive.

Not that I don't' think the dude is the real deal, ala, Dean, Depp, Clift, but he's mangled his face so much that I simply can't fathom that kind of acclaim. I"m sure it's a fine film but Oscar material? We'll have to wait and see. We heard the same about his magnum opus, "The Fountain" and looked how it turned out. But having Marrisa T. playing a stripper, after her turn in Before the Devil...blew me away. Matter of fact, here is a pic of she playing said stipper in Wrestler: http://tinyurl.com/6ldkp9

At almost 60 years old, Bruce still puts on a hell of a show. His exuberance puts men half his age to shame. With the exception of a few missteps in the early 90's, Springsteen's 35 year career is damn near flawless.

Bruce is right up there near the top along with Dylan and Elvis in terms of important and talented American rock artists. And anyone who says he's past his prime obviously hasn't seen any of the final leg of his tour that just finished. Simply amazing shows.

If for no other reason than to see how they use the footage they shot at Ring of Honor shows earlier this year and what actual wrestlers actually have a role. The only one I've heard is NecroButcher (which is fitting considering his current gimmick in CZW as "Hollywood" Dylan Summers)

And yet his last album hit number 1 on the Billboard charts and he's selling out stadium tours all across the country. While "Magic" wasn't the strongest album in his oeuvre, "The Seeger Sessions" was one of the most rollicking and fun albums of 2006.

I think you'll find that pretty much any music critic worth his salt would strongly disagree with that "overrated" comment. And Bruce actually "made it big" in the 1970s with Born to run, when he appeared simultaneously on the covers of Time and Newsweek.

Springsteen in the 80's. 1980: "The River." If this were the only album he released in the 80's, his legend status would be justified. 1982: "Nebraska." Completely negates your "rocker" argument. A quiet, haunting, introspective record about small-town America. If you've never heard it, you're doing yourself a great disservice. 1984: "Born in the USA." The album was just too big to be looked at objectively. And it isn't even one of his better albums. 1987: "Tunnel of Love." This album hardly set the world on fire. As Anakin722 already said, Springsteen was already firmly established in the 1970's. Dylan, Springsteen, and Tom Waits. The three greatest living American songwriters.

thing on mtv at that time. The Boss is a living legend and a hero for the working men and women of this country. Like when Reagan's advisors wanted to use the title track to Born in the USA the dumbass's didn't grasp that the song was in fact about his peers going over to Vietnam and coming back w/ nothing, a lot of them anyway. Disillustioned men fighting an unjust war. Just like todays except presently women get the privilege to participate in the current war.
Springsteen is a survivor

That's easy to say when he's got lots of money and a certain amount of power, I know, but he's lived through periods of poor sales and limp public interest that have killed other performers. Anyone remember Van Halen? Springsteen adjusted, because he knew the music was what interested him most, and dealt with not being instantly recognized and mobbed when he went out for groveries. He sought that, in fact - moved to California, grew a beard, started dressing differently, worked at home rather than in prominent studios, stopped touring as much - all so he could be himself and not "The Boss." Eventually he figured out he didn't have to hide in order to have his privacy, so he shaved the beard, put the t-shirt on, moved back to Jersey, reformed the E Streeters and walked around in public again. He continues to record and, if the music isn't his best, it's fresh. He's working with different producers. His work shares the energy of the old stuff with new sounds that he only achieved by walking away from the old, comfortable haunts and people he worked with behind the scenes. To me, that takes balls.

Max Weinberg is a fantastic, muscular drummer and one hell of a dresser. But without Springsteen he'd be the guy behind the kit in some band. The band might be huge, but he'd just be the drummer. Not Mighty Max.

Man, I'm going to have a lot of restrained here...

from flipping out on you Springsteen haters! While I'd hate to reply to some that writes "most overrated EVAH", I have to say that your whole thing about Bruce making it in the 80s... you know he was actually doing pretty damn well in the late 70s? A little ol' record called Born to Run? Ever hear of it? As someone said, the man at 60 puts on a 3 hour, 30 song show that has more energy than any of your shit bands. You know another thing? Try checking out a Behind the Music special on this guy or another show about him, and you're not going to see a period where he hit rock bottom, went into a drug craze or anything. He's been a class act, through and through.

It always amazes me when these supposed Bruce fans get their panties in an uproar over his politics. I can't believe that anyone could have listened to his music for any length of time and not had a good idea about the nature of his political affiliations. And if you claim he's being a hypocrite for being rich and writing songs about middle/working class problems, you don't always make great art by just looking in the mirror and describing what you see.

So, he should be halfway decent doing stand up. Sandler did more "performance comedy" than stand up, so he probably needed some tips and training for this... especially since he really hasn't done much live performing for some time now. I hope his buddy Chris Rock helped him out.

...one of his horn players from the original E Street band from the Early 70's. He had a lot of Bruce stories. He had to leave the band because he was newly married and his wife refused to let him go on tour. This was right before he came out with Born In The USA. After that wildly succussful album/tour Bruce rewarded his long time band members with a million dollars each! This guy always regretted listening to his bitch wife. I am NOT a Bruce fan but respect him for the icon that he is. His politics are a joke but I never let that influence my opinion on the srt. I just find him boring as all hell. Pure American music though... I just like a little more harmonic activity going on.

And Bronx's best apostle stands with his hand on his own hardware Everything stops, you hear five quick shots, the cops come up for air And now the whiz-bang gang from uptown, they're shootin' up the street And that cat from the Bronx starts lettin' loose, but he gets blown right off his feet And some kid comes blastin' 'round the corner, but a cop puts him right away He lays on the street holding his leg, screaming something in Spanish, still breathing when I walked away And somebody said, "Hey man, did you see that? His body hit the street with such a beautiful thud" I wonder what the dude was sayin', or was he just lost in the flood? Hey man, did you see that, those poor cats are sure messed up I wonder what they were gettin' into, or were they just lost in the flood?
