Am I the only one who hates it? I've actually told my browser not to display anymore images at all when I come to AICS because I find the current logo so obnoxious and stupid.

The first seems too much like a puff piece and I think that Ethan Runt is onto something with his hope that Guy Ritchie might be better served by directing material by other writers. Maybe his confidence was swept away by his recent crapfests and this was his chance to stand on safe ground for a while. Having loved LSATSB & Snatch so much, I guess I want to see him shine again...
I'm looking forward to it...

If it's shit, well it's shit. But I watched LS&2SB again a few weeks back and I enjoyed the heck out of it. If this can hit that vibe I'll be happy even if everyone else hates it...

I don't like the animation either.

Lock Stock was solid, but Guy Ritchies films generally are waaaaay to smug and self-satisfied with themselves for me.

I can see their appeal though and hell my guilty pleasure action flicks fall in line more with Stathams Transporter, Crank, dumb hitman rampage movie #4299 so what do I know?

...saw it at a screening last week. It does have some great scenes and good acting, but the reason it is so unsatisfying is that the plot and story have no tension or stakes. Russian gangster Uri makes a deal with British gangster Lenny to grease the wheels of a property development. Some other guys steal the money. Another guy steals a painting. And then we mix and match, bouncing back and forth between everyone for an hour and a half, with nothing building or escalating. The movie starts slow, hits a good stride for a while, then peters out to a slow tepid finale. Yeah, if you watch an individual scene you might enjoy the dialogue or characters, but scene after scene for two hours where nothing is really going anywhere...not a great movie.

Entertaining enough for a rental, but if you're looking for Lock Stock or Snatch, this isn't it.

...sounds like a plant. Hope that's not the case and Ritchie has made a good film but I fear not. As for him doing, Sherlock Holmes, well you never know, it might be inspired by dragging him away from British gangster films to new material. Or it might be horrible. I'm not too convinced by Downey Junior as Holmes. He's a great actor and has a lot of charisma but I would have thought there were other actors out there that looked a lot more like the Holmes of Conan Doyle.

I can assure you I am not a plant. Just because I liked the film doesn't mean I have been paid to like it by the studio or anyone else. Watch the film decide for yourselves.

A brilliant actor who has done some amazing TV work over here with The Long Firm and Our Friends in The North (with Daniel Craig). He deserves loads of success. It is a shame he went bald early, because he is only now reaching an age where he can get good film work.

Will Rocknrolla be further proof that without Matthew Vaughn...

...Guy Ritchie is an unguided missile? Revolver certainly implied it: that one was over-the-top-coockoo-nutball-c razy-as-fuck. But in a fun way IMO. Vaughn was definitely the stable hand keeping both Snatch and LSTSM somewhere in the real world. Just compare Layercake and Revolver, both their first solo outings. Layercake was rocksolid from beginning to end whereas Revolver seemed to go postal from the get go. Me, for one, I like nuts (but not in a gay way) so for me it was entertaining. But I can see why the crowds were turned off by it. Vaughn acted like Ritalin to Ritchie's ADHD. I just hope that in Rocknrolla he found some of that much needed restraint. Or some new Ritalin.

That movie took the love and admiration I had for Tarantino-esque-caper-movie Guy Ritchie and VasoLubed the shimmering life right out of it. A movie on sublimating the ego? You gotta be fuckin kidding me. Whats next - one on the mystical powers of Kabbalah?

No, seems to me the 2nd reviewer does what any sane person would do: not bother to see a movie that got terrible reviews.

i liked Lock Stock and thought Snatch was great. But i didn't bother with the last two Guy Ritchie films because every review i read talked about how much ass they sucked. I don't go to movies purely based on reviews & i've read plenty of negative reviews of movies that i loved, but if every review on the face of the planet says that a movie is a stinker, why would i waste my time going to see it?

Why wouldn't Sherlock Holmes carry a gun? I have read all the books/stories, and he frequently carries a revolver. I'm both curious and scared to see how this turns out.

Apparently they want to focus on Holmes other skills such as swordfighting. Maybe there will be gunplay involved but not from Holmes. I think that what Guy Richie Said was a reaction to the question would this film be like his others and clearly he wants to branch out from gangster flicks. plus i doubt the studio would want an r rated big budget holmes movie.

RDJ playing a coke head? That's as much a stretch as him playing a drunk. Are these directors trying to make him relapse? Poor bastard.

But Guy Ritchie will instantly make it a pile of shit since he's directing. I enjoyed Lock Stock, Snatch was alright but already at his second movie and the formula was getting stale. This is just going to be fucking fail. And fuck Rocknrolla.
