Love that cover, different from the UK Blu-Ray, used to have a huge poster for True Grit done in the same style. Also, The Small Black room, the weapon consultancy stuff isn't a huge part of the movie as I recall, it's more about his bomb disposal work, incredibly tense, and his alcoholism - the great bit where he sees a bottle get bigger and bigger.

Either 91 or 92. Not the eighties. Just saying. Anyway, why would any "righties" hate Stone for Nixon? Surely that's the most sympathetic portrayl of the man ANYWHERE since 74. Heck, it even made me question the value of loathing ANY president. Great film; one of only a handful to really move me.

Also out today is the best documentary I've seen this year "Please Vote For Me". Imagine if Alexander Payne's "Election" was a true story, only instead of American teens, it's a group of Chinese eight-year-olds campaigning for class monitor. The kids are incredibly compelling characters who learn some brutal lessons on the nature of democracy as the personality conflicts that have been simmering for a while boil over during a closely fought election. It mirrors some of our own recent elections in some very uncomfortable ways. Really a terrific film.

Denial is not a river in Africa. Let me see, Bush took the war on terror off our soil, put it on theirs, and there are people out there (Harry, you disappoint me on this) that have a problem with that?? Man, do we evey have short memories in this country. I for one prefer the war on terror being on soil other than ours. Maybe some of you out there prefer it still get fought in NYC. I suppose you Bush haters are also in denial that there were EIGHT different recounts on the Florida election, SEVEN of which were funded by causes sypathetic to Gore, yet NONE of those recounts found evidence that Gore should have stole the election from GWB. It's a good thing I read this web page (nine years now) for the movie babble.

And I don't mean that in a conspiracy theory way, I mean that in a "he's totally incompetent and sat on his hands for a year." The man was given comprehensive reports about Bin Laden's attempts to attack Americans on our soil and yet he took more vacation time than any other president in his first year. He took no action against Bin Laden until we were attacked.

Since then America's greatest enemy has gotten away and the Department of Defense reports that terrorism has increased in the world and terrorists have spread into more countries. If there is a war on terror, then George W. Bush is losing it for us.

war on terror
by GavinVanDraven
Aug 19th, 2008
06:59:07 AM
is a bullshit excuse to fight "over there". its like the "war on drugs", we cannot win because there is no clear enemy. our occupation over there only fuels the fires of hatred these extremists groups have for us. we need to back the fuck off already because we cant "win" clearly. we need to HELP these people so that we improve our image to the rest of the world... it is the impoverished that join these terror cells because they feel that is the only way they can help thier families. if we help these people, they wont so easily be swayed into radical thinking. watch that morgan spurlock "where in the world is osama bin laden" movie... it is pretty clear that the majority of the middle east doesn't like us. even our "friends" the Saudi's and Israel dont care for us much. they think we are trying to take over their lands. can you blame them for retaliation? 1/5 the worlds population is muslim, but only a handful are batshit insane, and we arent going to find every last one of them and kill them. they will just recruit more and the cycle will continue. i just want my friends to come home safely, because lets face it.. they've been fighting out there for far too long with minimal results. we're 500 billion in the hole because of this war. fuck it.

I guess then you are equally outraged over the eight years that Bill Clinton did nothing in weeding out these whackos. Or are you clinging to the belief that those "intelligence reports" only began once GW took office? If Bush "sat on his hands for a year" while this was going on, what body part did Clinton sit on for the previous eight?

We still would have gone into Afganistan, am amazed somepeople were against that part, i thought Dubya was quite restrained, but we wouldn't be in Iraq, that was and is just bullshit. Besides, Clinton was much more proactive against Al Qaeda in his eight years than Bush was in his first year in office (and arguably since his invasion of Afghanistan). Clinton actually launched missiles against Al Qaeda training camps. Remember when Republicans claimed that he attacked Al Qaeda not because they posed a threat, but because Clinton wanted to divert attention away from Monica Lewinsky? Yeah, the Republicans took the threat of Al Qaeda real serious back then.

Would it still be standing if we hadn't elected Bush? Oh, my dear God, please tell me you're fucking joking. Are there actually people who believe this? You know, I'm sorry, but I am about a hair away from boycotting this damned site over crap like this. It's a MOVIE NEWS SITE, for heaven's sake! Is it possible for me to come here and just HEAR about movie news and not have to endure your effing ridiculous political theories surrounding the themes of those movies? I mean, Bush "sat on his hands" for a year, to quote an earlier poster. And I suppose no one *before* him did so for even *longer*, right? And there's no threat now, either. Just like there was no threat on 09/10/01. Our memory in this country just sickens me to no end. But whatever, it's pointless. No doubt this comment will spur and endless flood of conspiracy theorists and Bush haters from all corners of the globe, all telling me how idiotic I am. So I guess I digress. Bush is Satan. He is the reason the WTC was attacked, he would torture your children and laugh at their pain if he could. Too bad Hitler's dead, right Harry? I mean, hell, even *he* couldn't be as evil as George Effing W. Bush, could he?!

They're not. But they are a valid point to bring up if one is going to have the audacity to call Bush exclusively responsible for what happened. A terrorist organization simply does not get as strong and as coordinated as the one that attacked us on 9/11 in less than a year. That's all I'm trying to say. And it's deficiencies, by the way.

The first few episodes were a bit shit but it really started kicking arse after that. Especially with the introduction of Kyle Reese's brother. There's clearly also an ongoing mystery with what Skynet is up to in the future... It's a real pity season 1 was knee capped by the sodding writer's strike.

It's good to see Dexter getting a recommendation too, it's the best thing on TV at the moment I think.

Of course nobody knows what would or would not have happened if Gore was elected president, which he was. However, I feel that a lot of things would not have happened if he were in the oval office. Maybe he would have not been sitting on the files that pointed out the fact that 9-11 was being planned and about to hatch. Bush is so incompetent I feel he is fully responsible for 9-11, which killed our country and sent us into the tailspin we are in now.

Looks like the usual reactionary conservative idealogues have jumped down Harry's throat for merely insinuating what we all know: that 9/11 could have been prevented. I can't believe you conservative douchbags are still arguing the "we took the war on tewrror over there" bullshit. Are you that fucking ignorant? We abandoned any semblance of a war on terror when we fled the mountains of tora bora in Afghanistan to invade a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 9/11, and in the process created "terrorists" to fight where there were none before.

I HAVE A NEW THEORY ABOUT NIXON'S DOWNFALL
by BringingSexyBack
Aug 19th, 2008
09:43:39 AM
Nixon's downfall was plotted - Henry Kissinger, high level agent of the Zionist Illuminati, was aware of Nixon's anti-semitism and sensed that Nixon would not play ball.

Not only that, Nixon's secret tapes revealed his revulsion for the Satanic homoerotic activities at Bohemian Grove (you can Google this).

For these violations of loyalty, Nixon's downfall was engineered with the help of Illuminati operatives Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Jimmy Carter's election was a temporary setback - a time they used for staging the ascension of Illuminati puppets and Bohemian Grove frequenters Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

lame lame shit. Way the hell to much time traveling. The timeline should'a just collapsed already. Now I'm being told it got good later? Well, see, I would be provoked into buying the set and giving it another chance, but I suspect that the "good" part is only a lame season finale with one half baked but sorta mind-fuck provocative idea in it, and I'm supposed to wait until next season to get an answer, but like the producer of Lost, they'll go "Ha! dumbshits! No answers til season finale!" (And I'll bet they stiff us then too.) So, I don't really need any more Terminator in my life. I'm trying to psych myself up for skipping part 4 next year altogether, but morbid curiosity may win out...

I did lament the loss of some of the main characters but I think it was necessary to add new life to the series. House's employee recruitment drive was hilarious I thought. I just happen to not be able to stand Kal Penn (Kumar). He's a fucking hack and a blight on the series. Not to big on Olivia Wilde either who looks like some kind of X-files alien hybrid. The Season 4 finale was strong however, and arguably one of the best of the series to date. Definitely the best of the season. Look forward to a new season.

...as the actors seemed to grow into their characters more. Sarah, John, and Cameron really began to hit their marks as if a bell suddenly rang in their heads telling them they don't have to mimick the movies, just do their own thing. The Terminator mythology works better in this format without the needless repetition of the films. In just a few short episodes it managed to make this mythology the most intriguing its ever been since T2 way way way back when. Then as soon as the characters grew stronger the plots got better. I can't wait for Season Two. Any fanboy who passes this one up should be ashamed of themselves. Sci Fi on TV is a dead genre..suppor the good one for goodness sakes.

10:11:31 AM
Harry... Apparently you missed THE GIRL NEXT DOOR at Fantastic Fest last year, because it's based on the same case. Didn't catch AMERICAN CRIME yet, but Weinberg's first question to the director during the Q&A started out with "So I saw this movie at Sundance based on this same material called AN AMERICAN CRIME, which I didn't like..." Apparently he did like GIRL NEXT DOOR though. I did too, but let me tell you what, it was really hard to watch at times. Very intense and difficult material. I'm picking up AMERICAN CRIME today, but I would definitely suggest that you check out GIRL NEXT DOOR when you get a chance. It's been out on DVD for awhile.

Harry, you are one IGNORANT SOB...
by expert_40
Aug 19th, 2008
10:24:31 AM
... and I don't mean that in a kidding way, or a nice way.

You are truly IGNORANT. Not stupid. Ignorant. There is nothing worse than being ignorant, Harry, because stupid people can't help their stupidity. They're born that way.

What makes you worse is that you actively choose to be ignorant.

Would the World Trade Center still be standing? Are you kidding me, you ignorant SOB?

And to the other ignorant SOBs out there, WE WERE attacked under Clinton. THREE TIMES! The WTC Bombing of 1993, the USS Cole, and the Kenyan Embassy.

The thing is, the Clinton-Gore Administration had operatives ready to kill Bin Laden, and chose not to, but that's besides the point.

Harry, what makes you so ignorant is that you choose to sublimate any intelligence in your brains with your slavish devotion to political ideology to the point that you actually believe in the most retarded shit possible, like the if the inventor of the internet was elected president, the WTC would MAGICALLY still be standing.

You ignorant SOB, you really are nothing but a fucking slave to your out-moded political ideology. And ALL political ideologies are out-moded. Not just liberalism, but conservatism, too. They're all for slavish sheep who espouse ridiculous ideas such as yourself who believes everything MoveOn.org, Rush Limbaugh, AirAmerica, or Sean Hannity tells them is true.

You ignorant SOB, for you to even say something like this is not only a stain on everything I ever decided to fight for, but you dishonor those the dead of the WTC with your ridiculously IGNORANT ramblings.

You ignorant SOB, I want you to answer one question and one question only, and this is a yes or no question. I don't want to hear how fucked up Iraq was. And it was really, really fucked up until the surge. Don Rumsfeld should be imprisoned for putting our guys in harms way the way he did without adequate numbers or equipment; he's an egotistical bastard who should have been shot. See, I'm no NeoCon though that is how you will label me for disagreeing with your ignorant self.

No, I just want you to answer one fucking question, you ignorant SOB.

HAVE WE BEEN ATTACKED SINCE SEPTEMBER 11th?

Yes or fucking no.

Okay, new question: What makes you think that a member of the limp-dicked Clinton Admin could or would have prevented 9/11, and do you think the response would have been as righteous?

If you say yes, then you are even more ignorant than I'm giving you credit for.

For as fucked up as some things seem right now (I won't even get into how an actual cyclical free market economy works with your ignorant ass because you are just too ignorant to want to know the truth), the one thing that matters to most of us out there is after Sept 11th, have we been attacked again?

The answer is no, you ignorant SOB.

You dishonor yourself with your slavish devotion to your sad political ideology, and you dishonor those who died to say something so completely ignorant that you create for yourself a new category of ignorance.

It's not too late though Harry. Embrace the light. Step away from ignorance and embrace the freedom that comes with knowledge, fact, and MODERATION. You see, in my world, I won't vote for Obama or McCain because I'm a slave like you are and am being told by a party who to vote for. I'll vote for whom I believe is the best candidate after all of my exhaustive research is done. And maybe that's the problem. You embrace ignorance because you are too lazy to embrace knowledge, and the work that comes with attaining knowledge

Like 80% of this country, you're a lazy bastard who'd rather be told what to do by your ideology than in finding out things for yourself. THAT'S the problem with this country, Harry. Not Bush. Not Kerry. Not politicians. No, the problem is the IGNORANT people like you who are fucking sheep.

Karma is a mother-fucker, Harry. It'll get you back for ever uttering such an inane, ignorant thing as you did. You best believe that.

No one will ever be able to resurrect Chase's film career. As evidenced during his recent stint as guest anchor on SNL, he still carries an air of comic smugness, that a director would have to slap the shit out of, if they dare.

Expert_40 . . . You Think These Lefties
by kevinwillis.net

Are going to listen to anything you have to say? These folks are unmoved by facts. This is a religion. Currently, Bush/Cheney/Rove are Satan, Obama is the Savior, and you might as well be arguing to the mental benefits of clubbing baby seals into bloody pulps with these folks.

I consider myself a Christian, and nothing against Christian apologists per se (but I'm not into apologism), but lefties are kind of like hardcore Christian apologists. Those folks pore through the geological records and scientific data and all sorts of stuff to selectively hand-pick data that supposedly supports or proves that the Bible is all about the hard data. Any data you might present regarding the actual age of the earth is rebutted with some strange dismissals of carbon dating, or some such thing. At the same time, the geological evidence for Noah's flood is found in some water marks in a cave and a few other anecdotal bits of geological evidence.

These lefties are kind of like that. Any argument you make will be wrong, and data you present will be wrong, anything you say will be wrong because they can already dismiss you, out of hand, because of your political convictions. Heck, just disagreeing with them makes you, de facto, wrong.

Though, frankly, I like Harry, and find his political niavete both typical of lefties, and kind of charming.

That said, I have to make my obligatory Nixon post.

Do none of you people ever read history? Nixon is the only president who seriously tried to institute wage and price controls--the bread and butter of a Soviet style command economy--in America! He created OSHA, the EOC, the EPA, gave the regulatory teeth to affirmative action, signed of on COLA for SS, and on and on and on. The only president who had done more to grow the government into a leviathan liberal regulatory bureaucracy of weatlh redistribution was Lyndon Johnson, and I think Nixon beat him.

That said, which president has grown the government the most since Nixon? Why, George Dubya Bush. Medicare Part B, anyone? Department of Homeland Bureaucracy? Nationalizing air port security? Argh!

Most conservative don't give a shit how Oliver Stone portrayed Nixon--and it was pretty sympathetic, if sometimes kind of phony-feeling--because no conservative familiar with Nixon's record has any love for him. And even in regards to foreign policy, many conservatives and certainly "neocons" object to the idea of realpolitik and detante. And on and on and on . . .

You want the real story on the Nixon Whitehouse? Check out the 1999 movie, Dick, with Kirsten Dunst. It's an accurate portrayal of Nixon, and the groundbreaking work of Woodward and Bernstein, in one perfect movie. And Dan Hedaya was a great Nixon. Pitch-perfect.

I'm kidding. But, seriously, have you watched all the The Sarah Connor Chronicles? I don't know how season 2 will be, but season 1 became great with in it's own little universe around the fourth or fifth episode. Maybe watch the early episodes to understand who some characters are, but there were real problems with those original episodes. However, the season just got better and better. On the whole, it's a great series, and I'm really looking forward to season 2.

Also, House is a geat show. I've only seen about 10 episodes, but I really want to see 'em all one day. Hugh Laurie is brilliant. Brillian! Watch them, Harry! Watch them all! Even though I haven't.

First, of course Ringo Starr is going to be married to Barbara Bach. There is a rule that The Beatles or Beatle gets the pick of the litter. And all I can say is, "Well played Mr. Starr, well played." As for what a wonderful world it would be with Al Gore...the guy just wasn't ready to be president in '00. I think he'd do a good job now, but in 00, I think he would have been the Democrat version of George Bush - just holding the fort of the Clinton era. And yeah, 9/11 might not have happened (maybe someone would have listened to the FBI) but I hope you're not insinuating the attack happened because of Bush. That's just ignorant and foolish. Religious fanatics aren't capable of that kind of reasoning.

The Clinton administration was much more focused on terrorism than the Bush administration was. The proble was budget and when they pursued military budgets that reflected this concern, they were denied by Congress(D's and R's) because of the military-industrial complex that requires more bug hardware.

Also, Stone's Nixon was surprisingly sympathetic to the man, wasn't it? And I agree that if GWB is representative of Republicans, then Nixon was a RINO. In reality, he was a coward who went whatever way the wind blowed.

All I'll say on the matter is that humanity likes to have a single figure on which to lay the blame for something that goes wrong. At the moment George Bush is being blamed for everything that is wrong with America, while George Lucas is being blamed for releasing CLONE WARS on the big screen (which wasn't even his idea, he was content to let it premier on television). None of us know all the facts, so we should all think and shut the fuck up before pointing the blame just to make everything nice and neat in our minds. Carry on.

First it's not the Bush Admins fault that 9/11 happened I think that is just obvious. But I do blame Bush admin for that state of the economy and our stance around the world(which is not good). So Bush sucks bad can't wait for Obama OR McCain fuck I'd take a pug dog for president right now over Bush. Worst President ever. Period. Secondly I'd like a real point of view on the Sarah Conor Chronicles. I watched the first episode and when the first Terminator we see is a dumb ass who can't aim I gave up. You're a joke. You speak as if being rude will make you sound right. Here's what Harry said: "Would the World Trade Center still be standing with a different President? Would our Economy still be in the shitter? Would we be at War in two countries? All of this might have happened under Al’s watch, but I don’t think so." Fair QUESTIONS, all. He didn't state it as "I know it wouldn't have happened" but stated it within the context of the film he was reiviewing, moran. It's been fair game to wonder 'what if' ever since the "Bin Laden determined to Attack US" memo from Aug of that year came to light. When Clinton DID attack bin Laden, it was people like you who called it 'Wag the Dog' - your types love having it both ways, right? Here's a question for you: do you think Gore would have outsourced our military attack into Afghanastan and allowed bin Laden to escape? I know not so, Doosh Latoosh.

None of the other people filming from various apartment buildings and rooftops snagged a few frames of the bombing runs? Nobody on the ground, the port piers, the water, or from the other burroughs? (Please don't tell me EVERYONE'S footage was either confiscated or digitally altered to elimate these images and the people who filmed them were sworn to secrecy...)

No one but the guy over on the Hoboken pier and ILM has confirmed that it's real?! Well, how about that?! Because isn't ILM responsible for the airplane holograms that were covering the actual Cruise missles that slammed into all the buildings on 9-11?

a few 9/11 "facts"...from Alex Jones
by darthwaz1
Aug 19th, 2008
01:03:42 PM
A few basic 9/11 questions that remain to be answered... Below I present some points that are presently known. I won’t be able to convince anyone who doesn’t want to be convinced, but for those who are willing to deal with factual evidence, consider the following: • 37 different people reported explosions in the basement of the World Trade Center Towers before the first plane hit, and seismic equipment recorded both the explosions and the impacts. In addition, people were injured by the explosions in the basement, providing well-documented evidence. Yet this evidence is ignored. •The media and government have promoted the “pancake theory” as the cause of the collapse of the Twin Towers — that is, fire weakened the steel support beams, causing the upper floors to collapse. Then the weight of the collapsing floors above caused the floors below to collapse. This theory is not consistent with scientific principles or the facts. Frank Legge, who has a doctorate in chemistry, and Tony Szamboti, a mechanical engineer, reported in December in the Journal of 9/11 Studies: “It appears therefore that the official concept of a free-fall collapse of the upper portion through the initiation story, due to heat effects from fire, is a fantasy. If the temperature did become high enough for collapse to occur” — and everyone agrees that it did not — “it could not have happened in the observed manner. In particular it could not have been sudden and thus could not have produced the velocity, and hence the momentum and kinetic energy, upon which the official story depends for the second stage of collapse.” • The theory that the buildings collapsed due to controlled-demolition explosives, however, is consistent with scientific principles and the facts. The “demolition” theory, in fact, is the only one which scientists have been able to corroborate. That is, “… all observations are in accord with the use of explosives in a time sequence.” (Legge and Szamboti, December, Journal of 9/11 Studies.) • Peer-reviewed reports indicate that the masses of dust particles created by the disaster contained tiny pieces of metal that had been exposed to both extreme temperatures (higher than could have been produced by a burning office or burning airplane fuel) and extreme pressure (such as an explosion) that would fragment material into minute particles. Official reports ignore this. • In December, physicist Steven Jones announced the discovery of thermite chips in World Trade Center dust samples. The chemical composition of these chips are an exact match to known thermite samples used in controlled demolitions — further corroboration that explosive devices were involved. • Steel support beams recovered from the site of the World Trade Center exhibit cut edges that are characteristic of thermite used to slice steel support beams in building demolitions but are not characteristic of steel beams that have been burned in a fire. When the 9/11 Commission Report was finally released, it was woefully inadequate. It never even addressed the collapse of Building 7, for example. Former FBI Director Louis Freeh has stated that there are inaccuracies in the report and unanswered questions. Even the two chairmen of the 9/11 Commission — Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton — have accused the CIA of “obstructing” the commission, and one commissioner, U.S. Sen. Max Cleland, resigned, stating that the commission was “compromised.” Private individuals with specialized knowledge — scientists, engineers, architects, demolitions experts, and the firefighters and police officers who were on the scene on Sept. 11, 2001, have tested theories, constructed models, provided testimony, and dug for the truth about what really happened on 9/11. They have been ignored by media and the government. The mainstream media parrot the less-than-credible conclusions of the 9/11 Commission without giving any thought to the many omissions and inconsistencies. In a truly free country, the press would ask hard questions and do real investigating, but this is not happening. Only the alternative media, such as Internet news sites, have done any solid investigating. The events of 9/11 led immediately to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and passage of the Patriot Act (what double-speak), both of which deprive us of Constitutional rights and have brought us to the brink of becoming a police state. Homeland Security is currently trying to force a national ID card down our throats, although some governors have politely (or not so politely) told Secretary Michael Chertoff where he can go. If we’re going to sacrifice our freedom, there ought to be a very good reason, and we have a right to know what that is. It isn’t enough for government to say, “Trust me.” It’s way past time for Congress to authorize an independent investigation of 9/11 that will consider the mass of new evidence that has been gathered in the past seven years. The longer they stall, the more suspicions grow.

So I need something stupid that spoon fed to me like Heroes and Prison Break. Those shows are made so ever a 5 year old can follow them. Fucking Sarah Connor expects you to remember certain events and names without having to show you just what they are talking about. Plus since Heroes seems fine with doing the same thing every season I can pretty much guess whats going to happen. Sarah Connor needs to come on a little later in the week where my brain is a little more functioning so I just don't fall asleep because I can't keep up. For those of you who aren't in the working wold yet, you may not understand. But once you get that 7:45-5 job you'll learn to love the joy of mindless entertainment.

Harry dismisses TERMINATOR: SCC. How unsurprising.
by LoneGun
Aug 19th, 2008
01:29:08 PM
If THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES lacks the budget of THE TERMINATOR films, it more than makes up for it with smart storytelling and a truly affecting mother & son relationship. But once again, Harry dismisses an inspired sci-fi series, without offering much in the way of a detailed review. (He was even more dismissive originally about BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, brutally dismissive.) He blames the "talent and a lack of inspiration across the board", but he makes no mention of the performances. Lena Headey is terrific in SCC, better than Linda Hamilton was in T2. Headey is a more maternal Sarah Connor than Hamilton was in JUDGEMENT DAY, but no less strong a warrior. And Thomas Dekker is the best John Connor we've had, so far. Despite the smaller budget, the show has had some fantastic set pieces and action sequences.

9/11 isn't bush's fault JUST LIKE the current energy and financial crisis isn't the fault of the democrats like the right is saying. Clinton had ample opportunities to stop terrosists... and the republicans had plenty of time over the last 8 years to deal with skyrocketting energy demand and shady lending/banking. this new american style of 'ignore the problem till we can blame the other side' politics has to stop. they are all to blame. While we sit here and point fingers, both sides are spending this country into oblivion. 10 trillion in debt and counting. basic financial principles, if something has more total debt than total revenues, the entity will fail. us GNP is 11 trillion, national debt 10 trillion. in 4 years we will have more debt than our country can compensate for in revenues. that's when the system collapses.

Rip Torn is able to turn invisible and whenever he says "ENECTRO!!!" he grows to godzilla sized proportions so he has a tendency to bump into shit. I don't really think he bumped into the towers causing 9/11 or even bumped those jets or anything. But he can crush a man with a single stomp. That's power you can't buy!

Oh and thanks for the Dexter push. Good books and a great show. Worth the price for Showtime alone (much like HBO's series make it far more worthy then repeating the fucking transformers every 5 minutes or any shite Lucas sells them on the cheap). But yes, Rip Torn can crush your house and your family with a single stomp. He's fucking crazy bro. Not kidding. He'll flip ya. Flip ya for real.

Remake Fletch
by eustisclay
Aug 19th, 2008

I was disappointed in the movie Fletch. tghey took a great mystery and made it into a decent Chevy Chase comedy. It wasn't bad but they just didn't get the book. The character of Fat Sam is a scrawny heroin addict, but since his name is Fat Sam, they cast George Wendt. Also, in the book Fletch would always make up these names so people wouldn't remember him on the phone. I always pictured a movie version using split screen. But somehow he has a budget to fly all over the country and use goofy disguises(and who are they for? He sees the people who have never met him and will never see him again) Zach Braff would be okay if they go for a comedic version again, but I wish they would play it a little straighter. They original character looked like a surfer bum.

The pilot was more interesting than T3 and the John Connor character is more believable as a future resistance leader than Whiney Furlong and Mopey Stahl.

harry watch the first season. It will make you demand a second season just like everyone who watched season 1 had to when it aired. The charecters all work. There's multi timeline story arcs taking place. Cameron/feminator played by summer is both amazingly attractive and sexy all the while the most chilling terminator to date. I mean we still ahve no clue what exactly her intentions are yet you have to follow teh shows own explanation that really she has her mission and who teh fuck are we to disagree. BAG's turn as the brother Reese has been handled perfectly. Seriously Harry it;'s one of teh geekiest and still mainstream shows on TV today.

It's certainly not perfect, the timeline is at times too fractured and uneven, it's occasionally far too "on the nose" and lacks subtlety in certain scenes and the black and white cutting can seem far too random.

But there are some truly great performances in there, the period detail and sets are excellent and the archive footage and montages never feel excessive.

I believe it was in reference to the swastika, not the WTC.

A lesson in causation.
by rbatty024
Aug 19th, 2008
04:07:30 PM
There are two kinds of cause:

1) the first kind of cause is called "but for" cause. In other words "but for" a certain event then proceeding events would not occur. But for Charles Manson's mother giving birth to Charles Manson, then Sharon Tate wouldn't have been murdered. This is the kind of cause people have been citing to defend George Bush's inability to prevent an attack on U.S. soil.

2) The second kind of cause is referred to as actual cause. It is called actual cause because the consequence of one action creates a foreseeable outcome. It wasn't foreseeable for Charles Manson's mother that if she had an abortion then Sharon Tate wouldn't be murdered.

I believe that Bush could have prevented 9/11 if he had heeded the warning signs, and because Bush didn't heed those signs he is partly responsible for 9/11. When I say Bush is one of the causes for 9/11 I am referring to actual cause. It is foreseeable that because Bush did not heed the warnings in Bill Clinton's report titled, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Within the U.S.," and because Bush was not proactive enough in his first year in office against Al Qaeda (he never bombed Al Qaeda training camps the way that Clinton did), that Bush is partly responsible for 9/11.

By the way, I'm not a huge fan of Clinton but his foreign policy was light years above Bush's. As I mentioned, he at least attacked Al Qaeda's training sites, which Bush chose not to do for his first year in office. Clinton also stopped genocide in Bosnia which endeared him to the Muslims in that country. In Bosnia the U.S. is still a very popular country with an approval rating above 90%. In fact, many children in Bosnia are named William in honor of our president and our country. Take a look at that foreign policy legacy and then look at the disastrous Iraq war. Bosnia was just one way that Clinton chose to save lives and combat terrorist recruiting (which has gone up since Bush became president).

Finally, I would like to note that as disappointing as the Cole and Embassy bombings were they pale in comparison to what is happening every day in Iraq. Also, we have been attacked since 9/11. It was a little incident with anthrax and has been in the news lately. Again, Bush couldn't prevent this attack.

... in some cases, they were connected to the events of 9/11, and the new legislation for the Patriot Act hadn't even been written yet.

And there was also that weirdo doctor who was stalking a sorority or whatever...

So again, has America been attacked by Al Qaida again? No. It hasn't.

As for your insinuations about Iraq right now, all I have to ask is dude, have you ever been to Iraq or know anyone who has? Because you're talking out of your ass.

Trust in this, not only is Iraq not half as bad as the MSNBC and the other networks are making out to be, but some really great things are happening there that no one is reporting on because it's not politically expedient (i.e. for liberals) for them to do so.

Why don't you talk to veteran about what's really going on Iraq since the surge, instead of buying into the biased news reports. You're right, Iraq was a total shit storm under Rumsfeld because he was an egotistical fuckwad, and it IS Bush's fault for making him SecDef and not firing him soon enough.

But since Rumsfeld left, Iraq has improved 100-fold. That isn't propaganda, or ideologically spun, it's just the truth.

Dexter is nothing like American Psycho
by TheLastCleric
Aug 19th, 2008
05:30:19 PM
American Psycho is a great film but it’s not really about a serial killer so much as it is a satirical journey that explores the superficialities of society through the eyes of a nihilistic and psychopathic yuppie archetype. Dexter is a much more centered and nuanced look at a serial killer who is trying his best to control his darker nature by conforming his actions to a rigid moral code and gradually discovering his own humanity even as he struggles to keep the beast within from pouring out and destroying his life and the lives of those around him. While both Dexter and Bateman share similar murderous desires, it would be a fallacy to suggest they are the same type of character because in many respects they are polar opposites. Bateman is a hedonistic, callow person who gleans pleasure from murder where by contrast Dexter does everything within his power to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. He may be a monster but he’s a monster with a purpose. That said, watching a few episodes of the show really won’t get any of this across. It’s the type of show that needs to be watched from episode one because it builds and expounds on ideas and themes as it moves along.

Crazy political beliefs
by Toonol
Aug 19th, 2008
08:21:41 PM
It's amazing how many political beliefs are held solely because people _WANT_ to believe. Of course 9/11 would have happened; it had nothing to do with who was president. Using planes as guided missiles was a foolproof plan... once. It will now never work again. We probably would have gone into Afghanistan, whether our president was Bush, Gore, or Mary Poppins. History wouldn't diverge until we get to Iraq; different presidents would have handled that differently.

Seriously, thinking the Gore would have prevented 9/11 is as lunatic fringe as thinking he would have prevented the New Orleans levies from breaking.

30 seconds online came across this .. sadly on Wikipedia (latest gaffe I found on there - that Jamie Kennedy is Connie Chung's son...) but I'm too lazy to indulge anymore - anyway "Ramzi Yousef (my aside - the principal architect of that bombing) born in Kuwait, began in 1991 to plan a bombing attack within the United States. Yousef's uncle Khalid Shaikh Mohammed Ali Fadden, who later was considered "the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks," gave him advice and tips over the phone, and funded him with a US$660 wire transfer.[4]" And the sole point of the post was to illustrate the ignorance that there were no attacks under the previous president. Honestly couldn't care less who is president - I don't vote. Remember some comedian making a correlation between people who enter cereal box giveaways and those who vote. Scurrilous, admittedly, but not entirely inaccurate.

Poster expert_40 (ignoring the SOB rants) is actually saying that both Political Parties are CRAP. Conspiracy Idiots who claim that the WTC attack came from the President, remind me of the same type TWITS that think President Roosevelt knew in advance about PEARL HARBOR. It is too difficult for these TWITS to admit that the USA was sucker-punched in 1941 and 2001. Now if OBAMA becomes President we may indeed have an internal threat to the USA. Just Kiddin' about Obama. We do need to get out of IRAQ. Lastly, remember, back when the NEWSPAPERS had daily details of the EVIL that Saddam Hussein was performing while in power? I certainly do. That is why we invaded IRAQ. Blame the MEDIA. I doubt BUSH could even spell IRAQ.
Don't serial killers have sexual compulsions in motive?
by JackRabbitSlim
Aug 20th, 2008

I was under the impression, correct me if I'm wrong, is that one of the inherent differences between sociopaths and serial killers was that serial killers almost always had sexual fetishes or compulsions as one of the primary impetuses in their patterned killings. Hearing Jeffery Dahmer liked to eat his victims at first seems simply psychotic (and it probably is...) but when I started to learn that one of his childhood hobbies concerned taxidermy and that his first sexual experiments came on the animals he ... well ... stuffed and then STUFFED ... it starts to make some twisted sense - correlating the reek of decay with eroticism. The same goes with a lot of others - Berkowitz liked to masturbate just before or after shooting the kids, BTK talked about his decidedly bizarre sexual fantasies, etc etc. In fact, it was this element that made me looove Mr Brooks (wow that movie is under appreciated) Note the look of orgasmic bliss on his face after he shoots the couple in the opening scenes. Its also why i started to despise Hannibal Lecter - no serial killer i know of ever killed people just because they were rude. It was this element that makes them so doggedly determined to do what they do and makes them so fucking disturbing. Serial killer adaptations that ignore this facet really lose a lot of their punch imo. BTW - never seen Dexter.

Harry, you were wrong about GALACTICA, and you're just as wrong about T:TSCC. If anything, the lower television budget has forced Josh Friedman and his writing staff to find inspiration in both character and plot. While the show hasn't always been perfect, it did feature some genuinely intriguing character turns -- the evolution of Doctor Silberman (marvelously played by Bruce Davison) as a doomsday cultist is a prime example, as are the ongoing arcs of both the Cameron and Derek Reese characters. Headey is exceptional in the lead role, never mimicking Hamilton but finding myriad ways of making the character her own.

And as for setpieces, the sequence in the finale where a Terminator decimates an FBI tactical squad to the tune of Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around" is a hundred times more inspired than ANYTHING in Mostow's misguided third film (which featured Arnold in a gay fetish club and a fucking Terminatrix with inflatable breasts). In fact, now that the budget has drastically increased for the second season, I have little doubt that this show will be far more memorable than McG's impending theatrical debacle.

10:08:00 AM
"Im sorry, but i wouldnt even waste my time trying to tell people to stay away from the Jonas Brothers or Myley "giving hand jobs to daddy" cyrus... but what really kind of creeps me out on this is that he says how he likes the Myley DVD, cause its in 3D. Its almost saying that he likes it better cause he can fantasize about her in these sick perverse pedophile ways, since he really didnt put any soft core porn movies in here, i guess Hannah was the soft core pick of the week."

Here's what Harry said regarding the DVD:

"Ok – now hold on to your skullcaps – cuz I’m actually recommending this one. WHAT? No, seriously. I know that Miley Cyrus is the spawn of an idiot singer that plagued us in the late Eighties. Sure her songs are empty sugar pop head-bopping songs. But it’s fun stuff. Moreso – Blu-Ray 3D is fucking amazing. On a pure love of the 3D format – watching the anaglyph 1080p was stunning. Disney’s set design and 3D cinematography takes full advantage of the 3D format and if you love 3D – this is the finest quality 3D you’ll ever have seen at home. And the advantage of the Home Version is… You can skip the Jonas Brothers songs – or hit mute."

I don't see anything there that even hints at what you said. He's referring to the QUALITY of the 3D format, not to the images themselves. You are the one who seems to see Miley Cyrus as nothing more than a pedo fantasy. You're the one who imagines she gives her father handjobs. You're the one who believes it is softcore porn. You're the one who feels that out of all those other videos, including the one with the Suicide Girls, the Hannah Montanna DVD is the best candidate for Harry's "obligatory softcore porn" entry. I think if anyone around here needs to save face its the one that ashamedly looks back at you in the mirror.

I mean I don't get that fanaticism either but at least you usually root for your home team but this?? I still remember a guy that used to make me VHS tapes from his laser discs claiming that DVD's would never, ever catch on. He acted like he had a personal stake in the whole business. Maybe it's just the whole fanboy thing. While I count myself as one, I don't take things like Fox suing Warner Bros. over Watchmen or Warners pushing the next Harry Potter release personally. And what's with the constant (not you) wishing death upon people all of the time? Just because somebody disappointed you and didn't make the exact movie that you wanted to see, you have to act like a spoiled two year old child. For Christ's sake we're talking about a movie. Internationally, I was referring to the age of consent. There is a difference between the age of consent and the legal age to be in porn. There are still states in the US where the legal age is 16. (It's 17 in NY.)

I know you can still pick up Traci Lords movies in the Netherlands, and I believe I believe in France and Germany as well. The Happy Shopper online lists them, although they are all Region 2/PAL. I would imagine you could pick up other OLDER porn containing women 16 years and older as well.

However, I believe all European countries have now agreed to only allow production of porn containing girls 18 and older. containing

Knowthyself could conceivably been talking about MS/Toshiba AND the blind follower morons. He was (italics) addressing jDanielp. But I get what you're saying. And my personal reason for knocking JDaniel goes back to an earlier thread. I'm not just kneejerk hating on him.

Of course there definitely are plenty of infantile fanboys who cannot conceive of liking one thing without hating the other. It's like there's not enough space in their oxygen-starved brains for more than one thing. This is why I'm ridiculing Jdaniel - if anyone should be angry about this new thing it should be him!

It IS right to pour scorn on Toshiba at this point in time.

HD DVD fans were right to love what they were getting. The movies had a lot of great quality encodes, and aside from amount of storage (which was the other 50% of the equation - apparently the one-eyed fans and Tosh/MS had never heard about burning discs/data storage and the pc industry), the av encoding formats for each were ostensibly the same. A huge bone of contention on the movie side was the interactive part. Microsoft's version was easier but arguably more restrictive, java was messier to program but had more legs - again, arguably.

O.K. So fast-forward a few years and HD-DVD is dead, even after Tosh and MS virtually giving the things away in cereal boxes: a double-edged sword that endeared them to the zealous/zealot fans while ensuring no other manufacturer would touch it with a ten-foot pole. At the end they were even willing to fuck over the existing base by going 'true' triple-layer to match Sony, when they COULD NOT do it without making all the current players obsolete (there was another flavour of 3-layer where 1 was essentially regular DVD)!

The reason to spit at the extended detail marketing bullshit is that not only is it a con - uprezzing players have been around for ages. They're only an 'extension' of the standalone line doublers/multipliers that came before them. Uprezzing SHOULD get better every year! Toshiba are actually trying to dazzle us with something that should be a non-event.

BUT most importantly THEY'RE PISSING ON THEIR OWN LOYAL FANS (sorry, don't usually shout but that's for Jdaniel's edification) by saying there's NO NEED for true HD! So fuck all the people that bought their HD-DVD players and movies. Thanks but we lied to you while we took your money all that time. Here, buy this new product from us that costs more than a regular DVD player that also uprezzes. And if there's no reason for true HD, why are they still making full-hd TV sets?! No matter what they say and no matter how good the interpolation gets, it's never as good as true information. An approximation of 2 million extra pixels from 800 odd will never be the same. Ever.

It's basically Toshiba not being able to admit the truth and being arrogant douchebags by burying their heads in the sand because they lost. Also unable to face the irony of turning out to be the beta through their exclusivity with hardware. Toshiba do make great stuff. But in this case they deserve any shit hurled - especially by their own jilted customers.

Which is why fanboys like jdaniel are such fools. I thought he'd actually seen the light in a past thread but he seems to have gone off the deep end this time.

"Would the World Trade Center still be standing with a different President?" Are you serious? Come on. You can't be that delusional. So what you're saying is the terrorists bombed the World Trade Center because we elected George Bush as president? We're going to disregard the fact that the plans for the attack had been in the works for years prior? You do know that President Clinton had the opportunity to end anything Bin Laden was a part of years earlier ... to that effect, Al Gore had more to do with the Twin Towers attacks than President Bush. So, again, we're to assume the reason Al Quada attacked the U.S. was to get at George W. Bush and the stupid saga of the hanging chad. No wonder the Democratic party is so f'd up. They're all in denial. Look, if it was such a slamdunk that Al Gore should have won the election, I really don't think 1 % of one state's votes would have mattered much. The election was close. Both parties were into it up to their ears. We ended up with a president elect that was to close to call either way. Because you don't like him doesn't make him any less the president. Our country elected the man through an election system both parties choose to support. Give me a break already. Oh. And this coming from an independent with ties to neither the democratic or republican party. I'm just sick of the incessant whining.

Hey there, half vader. Stay calm, man. I just thought I'd rub a couple of sticks together and watch the flames. (Shame on me.) These are hard times and despite that, I still found myself watching a running/advertising Blu-ray display for several minutes, just last weekend. Truth is, like most people, I do enjoy HD content. (I still love my HD-DVD player and the HD flicks we do own. And the up-scaling on dvds is very impressive.) And in continuing this honesty, my wife and I have had some discussion of Blu-ray. And we've decided that if Microsoft releases the rumored "blue" (as in Blu-ray) XBOX 360, we would eventually pick one up. Since I already enjoy Xbox Live, any Blu-ray updates would fit in with the LIVE updates we members get on the rare occasion. And the smallest 360 chip-sets should be rolling off the factory by that time, if the blue 360 becomes a reality. - As for the NEW Toshiba dvd player that enhances dvd imagery more than ever before, I'm interested in it because we have bookcases FULL of dvd movies. And if we can get EVEN MORE (thanks to improving technology) for our dvd purchases while saving money by avoiding a very expensive switch to Blu-ray, what's wrong with sharing that option with others in the same boat? Yes, I jumped on the HD-DVD wagon because that's what I preferred (and the price was right, at the time). However, Blu-ray won the war. But considering the pocketbook of the average consumer today, advancing tech for "image enhancement" of regular dvds deserves our attention. (The Toshiba XD-E500 1080p Extended Detail DVD Player is up at Amazon.com if you wish to read about the product for yourself. Criticize all you want. But if the product does what Toshiba claims, more power to them.) Like most people, we look to get the most for our money. And this new high-tech dvd player may be the answer for us. Thanks for listening.

This is not the film Orson Welles intended. It takes some of the footage he shot in Spain for the film, slaps it together with some footage he shot for a documentary on Spain (most likely hack-work to get money to shoot Don Quixote) into a bizarre, Frankenstein's monster of a film. Welles unfortunately never finished the picture, so any release claiming to be the film is misleading. At least a project like It's All True was released as a documentary about the making of the unfinished documentary (and included some of Welles's breathtaking footage). And Welles left editing notes for The Other Side of the Wind, though I understand they're strangely going the It's All True route with it, which is upsetting. But Welles left no instructions that we are aware of for the completion of Don Quixote.

and arrogant. And patronising their own by treating them like morons. Why does the new player (yes, I've read all about it, the selective sharpness sounds good) warrant any more than "here's our latest player"? Answer, it doesn't - like I said, the tech SHOULD be better, or conversely the player cheaper if it's still last year's tech. The thing is (without going through it all again), they're making a mountain out of a molehill out of pure spite by saying well fine we never needed to play your game anyway, and leaving all the supporters with their expensive jerseys and scarves, to strain the analogy. I would think you more than ANYONE would be livid at the gall of them shitting all over you with this player in the way they're promoting it.

IF the player does what they claim? Are you kidding me? It BETTER! We look to get the most for our money? Again, are you kidding? If that's actually the case, stick with your HD-DVD player, I never said that was a bad purchase - as you say, the upscaling is good. Don't buy this bullshit device. Or at least wait a coupla years 'til it's just part of the regularly-priced line. Your 'argument' that it deserves the attention of the "pocketbook of the average consumer" makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. They're charging MORE than average for it! I've already explained why it CAN'T be "as good". Don't support Tosh treating their own fans like imbeciles.

It's like when every Olympics comes around, they say "the most technologically advanced coverage EVER!" - and we're like "What, it's not LESS advanced than 4 years ago? Hoo-fucking-ray!". Also like the redundant fuckers that say "pro-active" which is probably a tautology, definitely redundant and begs the question of whether they were considering being "anti-active" before they changed their minds!

The other planty thing is you evangelising the 360 when there's no need. You don't just say you already have it, you"already ENJOY Xbox live". If that's not pathetic plant-o-rama, it's just plain pathetic. I bet you believe the crap about live's HD content which is half the rez of full hd and therefore about a quarter the filesize. The 360's still great (now that it works), and the best online system out there, but stop pimping. As for a 'blue' 360, nope. There may be an add-on for movies which I must admit was canny of MS in that "we reserve the right to pay lip service (Toshiba) in terms of support then screw you in the arse" kinda way. But I think you're talking about an integrated drive for games as well. And have somehow forgotten Peter Moore and the rest spitting at Sony for forward-thinking and ridiculing them because games would emphatically NEVER need that space and that the 360 categorically would never, we promise you upside down and sideways, EVER contain a high-def drive. Yep absolutely Sony were arrogant to, but easily matched by MS and Tosh in a display of hubris the likes of which we old guard hadn't seen since Yamauchi. So unless you get completely fucked again by the ms bullshit machine, nope.

Of course you're aware that every time you justify this marketing crap you look like even more of a plant. Mentioning "my wife and I" like a broken record makes the plantiness even worse. Either that, or you're wearing it like a geek badge of pride which is understandably pathetic but still so try-hard.

I've tried to calm down but that second post still fanned the flames, and did nothing to dispel your shameless, unthinking and blind devotion. At least I'm happy I shot down every one of your new points 'for' too! And if you are actually a plant, up your game. Cheers.

Oops, I mean theorists. Please forgive. From the Associated Press: Government investigators have issued a report refuting conspiracy theories that a skyscraper next to the twin towers was brought down by explosives. The report says that fires destroyed World Trade Center 7 on Sept. 11. Scientists with the National Institute of Standards and Technology say their three-year investigation of the collapse of the 47-story building was the first known instance of fire causing the total failure of a skyscraper. The investigators also conclude that the collapse of the nearby twin towers broke the city water main, leaving the sprinkler system in WTC 7 without water. The collapse of building 7 has long been the subject of conspiracy theories that something else brought down the tower.

Pardon me for not knowing, but who says there were only a few small office fires before the building collapsed? I haven't seen that reported in any mainstream media. Is that from a credible source?

go to youtube and watch building 7 collapse for yourself! You can see that the fire isn't that bad. Then go watch other buildings collapse from fire.....it takes a lot longer then 7 seconds for a building to collapse from fire!
Not to mention......

the fact that it collapses from the base of the building. If it was fire it would have collapsed in on itself! There wasn't even any fires at the base of the building!

Plants need water, too. (snort!) Maybe I need to drop the... "wife and I" ...bit, even though it's a simple way to register that my purchase decisions include another. (It's an important part of staying married.) The simple fact is that I would not own so many dvds if I was single. But anyone married and having children will completely understand the convenience of watching movies at home. Now, if I was single, I would like to think that I'd be saving up for a HUGE LCD, no less than 50 inches in size. And if that was the case, I would no doubt, eventually, purchase a Blu-ray player (and own IRON MAN and THE DARK KNIGHT in the format). I would selectively buy but mostly rent. Understand, with our situation as it is now, with our large collection of dvds and our... (avoiding the "plant") ... upscaling player, we are fine. And I'll keep watching advancing tech for dvd upscaling and see what develops with Blu-ray. - I hope the water was cold enough.

but having reported on this a couple of times, I know that six of the ten floors of building seven were fully involved. Hey, I'm open-minded. If someone comes forward with credible evidence of skullduggery I'd be glad to entertain it. But in the absence of hard proof it seems like we have an endless number of vague theories pointing fingers at shadowy government operatives. Until and if someone...anyone...can present evidence to the contrary the many conspiracy plotlines are very hard to believe.

then you can see it for yourself! Building 7 is 43 stories and not one of those floors was FULLY engulfed in flames! You can find the footage online. Look it up on youtube or go to seeloosechange.com! I'm not saying it was George W. Bush (he's too stupid to come up with a plan like that...he's just a pawn). All I'm saying is those buildings were built to withstand a plane crashing into them and that fire doesn't make buildings collapse!

If fire did make buildings collapse why hire a demolition crew to destroy your buildings? Why don't you just start a few small office fires and wait for them to crumble to the ground in the exact same way a demolition does!

My mistake...

I misread the report...the correct number of fires fully involved is ten...not six of ten. Please forgive. The fires burned out of control about six hours..and it all came down. The report is interesting. I recommend reading it for those interested in either de-bunking or spreading conspiracy theories.

The wiki article also has pretty good information about what happened to the building. Although many of you will not believe it...treat the story as a fictional account, like "Star Wars" or Harry's stories of scoring with women in college.

Sylvia Likens REAL story. They made Gert out to be some 'poor abused and overstressed mom', tried to make her look sympathetic.

Those who know the case know how O'Haver prob has some sympathy for that sick fuck and her kids, and the other kids, because the focued PRIMARILY on 'poor Gert' and 'poor Paula'. PFFFFT. They were all a bunch of sick and twisted fucks who should have been shot dead with no trial.

Asswipes that's the point, you don't even have a clue as to what happened, nor the events. Oh maybe you've heard them, but just as any stupid , blind fool, you choose to rationalize them into 'coincidence'.
The Proposition & Tales of Ordinary Madness

First, THE PROPOSITION is one of the best films in the last ten years if you ask me. Beautiful, haunting, and visceral. Not one character walks away unmarked in this film. One of my all time favorites. TALES OF ORDINARY MADNESS is based upon the works of Charles Bukowski and is pretty brutal to watch. Ben Gazzara basically plays a Bukowski-type who wanders in and out of divebars and cheap motels. The film looks more like a documentary, and it has this real-life grit to it. Great film, but not for everyone. It can be pretty funny at times, but also pretty disturbing.

American Crime just came today from Netflix. I'm pretty anxious to see it. Keener is always great and I like Ellen Page a lot. I really don't want to see her get typecast and from what I hear, she's not doing the Juno thing in this flick. For the record, she's a really nice girl. I worked on Smart People and she and Sarah Jessica Parker where as pleasant as could be to be around. It was a good thing too because Dennis Quaid was a dickhead and I had to constantly restrain myself from cleaning his fucking clock. What a tool. Anyway, I first read about the case back in the 70's in Bloodletters and Badmen. I can't believe that it's taken this long to be put onto film. Being a big Bukowski fan, I'm ashamed to admit that I'd not heard (or maybe did and totally forgot) of it before.
Tip: Pass on American Crime and READ..

Oh I understand all right about spouse & family. Which is exactly why you should stick with your current uprezzing player.

For the record, yeah I'm married, 3 kids. Got a Ps3 (an imported one just before they were released locally so I saved dough as they wouldn't be able to move them after that) as a bd player, and a 52 inch Bravia I saved 3 grand on because it was re-conditioned. A few marks don't bother me, as the kids are gonna put their grubby mitts on it anyway! I asked them to throw in an extended warranty so I'm all covered there. See? There are ways to make it work.

My blue-ray Proposition arrives next week. Go the Aussie films!

52 inch Bravia? Swwwweeeeeeeeeeeet! As for THE PROPOSITION, I've been wanting to see it for some time. Maybe I'll pick it up on dvd. Or better yet, how about inviting me over to your house? (Our kids can play.)
Mmm. O.K.

But it's a bit of a trek to Sydney, and you could buy a player and the Proposition for less (Go Aussie films was a hint? No?). But sure. As long as you promise not to whore that thing over in the new Blu-ray tb.

Oh.

No, i do seriously mean that. If you take out all the voting nonsense it sounds like a pitch-perfect review of from George Lucas circa 2000. An Terminator the Sarah Conner Chronicles Is LEAPS and Bounds better than T3. What did we get in T3? A Woody Allen-ish John Conner who was too old to be acting less of a man than furlong did in T2. I dig Decker keeping inline with his Conner not only living with the future but preparing for it and being a man about it and not a whiney-attempted suicide bitch, who just decides to be a man because it's too late. Gimme-a fucking break.......oh ya. Good. review. of. hanna. montana. though.

Too late! -How about shipping your Blu-ray machine, to me? I'll return it. I promise. -Heck, while you're at it, if you send the 52" Bravia, I'll pay for the shipping.

The global warming induced apocolypse is due in 10 years... THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW is a film everyone should watch...Harry Knowles is something other than a fat, sheltered, uneducated, spawn of hippies whose opinions in both politics and films are adolecent at best.

My point is Al Gore says some crazy stuff!
