Land of the Suck would be a better suited title. Will Ferrell is boring and sucks major ass. Seriously, has this guy even attempted to play a different character in any of his movies?

...it's one of those movies we all kind of remember from our childhood but it didn't re-run in later years too much (like saved by the bell r fresh prince) so it'll be cool to relive that. Also, I think this is perfectly suited for Ferrell, unlike, say, a white basketball player. Now that was a shitty movie...

the death of Ms Schaeffer

That was the first recollection I have of a 'national drama unfolding' that seems to have become so common-place with the advent of CNN and Fox News, where the murder mysteries of any given random people becomes media headlines. I was a big fan of the show, and would consider her one of my first teen 'crushes.' Such as sad and tragic loss. I remember vividly the post event interview with Pam Dawber just sobbing inconsolably over the death of her co-star and friend. Rather than a work of fiction whose only ties to the reality of this event is that a woman is murdered, a movie on this would be nice - but would probably end up on Hallmark or Oxygen.

And Marshal, Will and Holly notice they are claymation.

Marshal: "Does that Pteradactadon look like playdoh to you? Seriously."

Will: "Yeah, sort of smeary and it moves without motion blur. Strange"

Holly: "Listen guys, I think it is eating me, but its teeth sort of moosh around so I can't tell."

Does anyone think its more than a little racists...

that an ape like character was named after an African king? Were the creators of this show followers of eugenics or something? Someone had to notice this back then.

The african warlord he mistakenly refers to as a king was named Shaka Zulu, whereas the prehistorica ape-boy in Land of the Lost was named Cha-Ka.

Either play it straight or play it for 70s kitsch, but don't Will Ferrel PG-ize it. This movie has "Kicking & Scream" meets "Jurrasic Park" written all over it. Ferrell is very hit or miss to begin with, but his non-R rated movies are mostly misses (Kicking & Screaming, Bewitched, Blades of Glory, The Producers).

As anyone who has even given a cursory look at non-Western languages realizes, many sounds do not fit nicely into our alphabet. The name of Shaka has also been spelled Tshaka, Tchaka, and, of course, Chaka. Furthermore, Shaka is most definitely a king, not a warlord. He managed to take control of a sizable portion of what is now South Africa and implemented policies that expunged local traditions in favor of Zulu culture. All modern scholarship refers to Shaka as a king.

If you don't think Land of the Lost is racist, or at least that the creators should have stopped and given a little thought before naming one of their characters, then that's fine. All you have to do is say so. However, if you're going to attack me for perceived inaccuracies, then at least get your facts straight.

This sounds absolutely dreadful. Grew up on the series in the 70's and loved the Hell out of it... turning it into a comedy (and a Will Ferrell vehicle, ffs ) just fills me with unimaginable nerd-rage

It's hardly overblown -- the problem is, the original books are lightweight, probably, given the age range they are geared toward.
Now, Land of the Lost, shouldn't have been a comedy.

re: dimensional doorways, flatland vs. 3 dimensional universes, which isn't surprising since you had writers like david gerrold, larry niven (yup, THAT Larry Niven), d.c. fontana, etc. writing it so it like the ST cartoon did not talk down to kids...this movie on the other hand....hey, continue the rape of my childhood, i can't take it. (bitches.) personally, i think it's time to dust off ellison's scripts for I, Robot and The Starlost and make them into movies because no one seems to be able to write fantastic films anymore, the rare notable exception this summer being The Dark Knight...

why would the scribble be exactly the same as the Joker/"defaced" posters for DK? Is the Joker supposed to be doing this? Or the riddler? (or for that matter John Doe or the Zodiac)?
