Brillstein is truly one of those who didn't get the accolades that he deserved. Very iconic with what he's done form American Humor but, mostly, what he had done to make the WHOLE WORLD laugh. A sad day indeed, considering. But, a hilarious throw-back to what he left to this world.

... to those asking, I'll try a new tact in this thread. Harry took his CLONE WARS review down at the request of Lucasfilm, who have chosen to enforce an embargo on reviews on our site. There may, in fact, be other outlets who have reviews up currently. That is not something we can control. Harry will repost his same review when he is able to. I hope that explains it, but if you have further questions, I'll try answer them. I'd really rather this talkback were about the great Bernie Brillstein, though.

But a shame to hijack this particular and of course very worthy TB for a great comic. Of course a TB is needed to vent our anguish over Harry's embargoed review, where can we go? I hated the whole idea of Clone Wars animated series anyway but am still sad of Harry's review. It is however interesting that Harry comments on his colleagues more positive reviews though. Looks like this is going to cause a definitive split in SW fans. But biggest revelation out of all this is the fact Lucasfilm embargoed Harry's review for the first time because this is the first time he has given a negative review of a SW film. His previous SW reviews were all well before release, were positive, and Lucasfilm left them alone. Sorry Moriarty, I am guilt ridden to be posting this on this particular TB.

Saw It, Totally Disagree With Harry

"The Clone Wars" cartoon is LOADS more fun that the prequels ... er, except "Revenge of the Sith," which I thought was exceptional. It gives the Clones emerging personalities, there is a LOT of battle strategy in the film, the action is relentless, the narrative is more direct, and I thought the music was a great change of pace from John Williams. As for Ziro the Hutt, I thought the character was more bizarre than bad. He actually sounded like Truman Capote. Some problems, of course. Corny dialogue remains. And there wasn't nearly enough Yoda, Threepio, and other Jedis fighting. But there's a whole series to go. Harry is just trying to regain some greek street cred, and "The Clone Wars" are a WAY easy target.

"The Cube" and "Time Piece", two of Henson's early experimental works (the latter an Oscar-nominated short film) are now available exclusively through iTunes in the USA -- the first time they've ever been commercially available. Yeah, I'd rather have DVD, but this is apparently how a lot of his early, less mainstream work is going to be released. (R.I.P. Brillstein ... we clearly owe the man!)

My Experiences with Bernie Brillstein...

I started my career as an NBC Page, from 1997 to 1998. Naturally, my favorite part was working on SNL. I remember very clearly the first time I met Bernie Brillstein. I was seating the VIPs in the balcony when he comes in. I knew who he was right away--I was a student of entertainment history and I was always hungry for the story BEHIND the story--and I said, "Hello, Mr. Brillistein." He shook my hand and said, "Hey, kid. What's your name?" I told him and he said, "Stay right there, you don't have to show me my seat, it's the same one I've had for twenty-five years." And every time I saw him, I just looked at him and thought, "There's a guy who is clearly in love with his life and his job. May we all be so lucky."

AN OPEN LETTER TO GOD

Aug 11th, 2008

God, please don't take any more of our gifted entertainers away. It's bad enough down here already with all the storms, wars, pestilence and famine. These folks are here to make life a little more bearable by helping us to laugh, dance or make sense of it all. And if what's going on in Georgia or the Middle East is any indication of what's to come, we're going to need all their help to get through it with some semblance of humanity and sanity. So no more passings, okay Big Guy? Thanks.
