The latest I've seen are linked in the Friday column. The Jun Swan, or what ever they'll call her, is in fact pretty neat.

I think it could be quite visually impressive to see a live action version. Can't say I cared much for the series though. I'd much rather see a live action Mazinger Z or Getter Robo. Fist and boob missiles beats Shinji pulling his pud over a catatonic Asuka any day of the week.
Was not James Cameron doing some live action Evangelion?

I remembered his fx studio doing concept art for it and was pretty excited to see if this was a future project of his. Also what ever happened to the live action Akira that's been in development hell since before Norrington's word of doing it?

I've been listening to the fanboys go on about how WETA is putting this massive film together with an international cast and how Timberlake is going to play Shinji so we can all enjoy seeing him get offed. It's all crap crap crap. Hideaki Anno's huge Up Your's to the rest of the planet because his meds were prescribed wrong.

Ninja Resurrection? Entirely different staff/story, marketed as a Ninja Scroll sequel in North America. The Jubei of Ninja Resurrection is the quasi-historical figure that Ninja's Scroll's hero is based off of. Ninja Res. is based off the novel Makai Tenshō, from the creator of Basilisk. There are also Sonny Chiba movies based off the story (there are a ton of adaptations of it http://tinyurl.com/557k5s) The anime is unfinished and disappointing, but considering its from the makers of Giant Robo, and it has Jubei Yagyu versus the all-stars of samurai legends, I still enjoy it.

WETA was working on some concept art a while back, but I hadn't heard anything about James Cameron being involved in the project.
If they make a Ninja Scroll 2...

It had better be NOTHING like the 13-episode series, which pretty much sucked ass. It was too pretty and colorful, aimed for a clearly younger audience. Which was weird, because while it wasn't nearly as graphic in violence or sexual undertones, it was still probably too intense for a young audience. It's like they tried to compromise for the sake of netting a broader audience, but ultimately alienated both the hardcore fans of the original and the younger crowd who might have found some of the content a little too disturbing. Personally, I don't need a Ninja Scroll sequel - UNLESS they can pull off a Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust where they manage to go bigger, badder, and more badass and actually surpass the original. (Of course, the original Vampire Hunter D set the bar pretty low, unlike Ninja Scroll.)

There will almost certainly not be a live-action EVA project as long as ADV is in charge of it, as Matt Greenfield is really remarkably incompetent. If Richard Taylor is so serious about the film happening, he should buy out Greenfield (promise him an executive producer credit or something) and start shopping the project around on the basis of WETA-supplied effects and the endorsement of Peter Jackson. Easier said than done, perhaps, but the current arrangement isn't leading anywhere.

...so, all the interesting metaphysical and post modernistic meta shit will be cut out? itd just end up a giant monster movie with 3rd rate cgi. dont see a live action one happening anyways. its not palletable. ninja scroll was cool, but wtf would i care for a new one? more stone monster tit sucking? the episodes were ass, though.

They are bleeding capital left and right. They should just let the rights go to someone that gives a crap about the project and has the funding and cred to do it worthwhile.

If it at least lives up to the original's caliber then I'm down with that. And an EVA live action would indeed be interesting... couldn't even begin to fathom the budget required to get a full-on experience. Maybe no A-list actors would do the trick...

and changed the feel of the production. I liked that EVAs looked more like human Tiger Fish than any Shogun Warrior. Does that aspect of the film remain intact? If so, awesome, because it is that kind of counter-design that makes the inevitable 27yr old Asuka that much easier to accept.
