Maybe not as mainstream as Pitt but he definitely adds to the hilarity of the Office. Now Eli Roth, that no talent hack who gets the money to finance his shit when I should be the one in his place, that's a D-lister and was the first instance with this project that all the dominoes would have dropped. I'd much prefer an M. Night cameo than Roth.

Moritz Bleibtreu (Das Experiment, Run Lola Run, Munich) is pretty damn good but I'm not sure if he'd look enough like a stereotypical Nazi, his Das Experiment co-star Justus von Dohnanyi (who was also in Downfall) might be perfect, anyone who's seen Das Experiment will remember him, he's got shades of Klaus Kinski about him too.

so I don't know if it's mildly or ginormously exciting news. But since I'm pumped for that flick anyway... About time someone dusts off the WWII flicks, and all that I've read about QT's visual ideas for this is going into the right direction. Eli Roth aside (fucking nepotism robbed a part from a jobless real actor again) this sounds flawless so far.

Someone's gotta sit QT, Manoj, and a few others down in a "Scared Straight" type program where they have to watch back-to-back hours of each others' self-indulgent movies and say to them, "you had a few good movies, but you are NOT an auteur. Accept input from others. Be a collaborator."

Robert Rodriguez?

Seriously, did Adam Sandler say no to the "Jew Bear" role? Does QT not know any other Jewish actors? I really want to know how the fuck Eli Roth entered into the equation and became the best person for this role.

I'm not saying he's not a nice guy and cool to smoke a bowl with... but he has ZERO on-screen charisma in all his on-screen appearances, except that as a frat boy d-bag. Which maybe the role calls for, but I doubt it.

It's your movie, QT. You are wealthy and successful and can do whatever the hell you want. And you have an almost unblemished record with great casting. I'm sure you can direct and edit a pedestrian performance out of him. But why not get an actor??

This mistake will be a detraction and already a strike against it. Sucks.

Tarantino has become so full of himself that he's slowly becoming a joke. His heir almighty to know all things film is nothing but off-putting. He was once one of the most inventive screenwriters out there IN THE EARLY NINETIES! (face it, he's not a really a good director). Now all he's doing is re-treading roads that were already paved.
He's just going to make another non-linear film, just so people can say, 'have you seen the latest from QT?'.
I know you guys suck his dick here , just as much has Robert Rodriquez's, so even if this movie sucks, we won't hear it coming from Harry and the gang.

My problem is QT is a FANTASTIC director. You can maybe not like the genres of "Kill Bill" or "Jackie Brown," but they were impeccably staged, well shot, tightly written, and went unexpected places. And regardless of the actor, he brings out INCREDIBLE performances. So he's not a hack.

I just think, with "Death Proof" he wasn't performing to his skill level. It had flashes of brilliance... Kurt oozed charisma and danger and the analog car crash was PERFECTION... but it was a little self-indulgent and bloated.

Let's see if IG is old QT or QT-lite.

I feel that QT messed up Deathproof by having Kurt Russell turn into a wimp at the end. I know that's some people's favourite part, but I thought it was just out of left field. If it was really what QT claimed it was, a "slasher movie with cars", then there should have been only one girl left in the end. Turning it into a girl-power thing at the end seemed silly to me. But every female viewer I've asked seemed to like it, so what do I know.

From Wikipedia - In Ireland and in Britain, Travellers are often referred to as "gypsies"... I don't want to get into semantics with you, my point is that someone saying Pitt played a Gypsy in Snatch is not worth arguing about, maybe technically he was an Irish Traveller but is it really worth correcting the person to make yourself feel more intelligent? If QT can get nuanced, layered performances out of b-movie actors like Pam Grier and David Carradine, surely he can get Eli Roth, a director who works with actors, to at least functionally hit Nazis with baseball bats and be a badass. I doubt QT is going to give him the heavy emotional scenes. And I can't WAIT to see Pitt chew into some of the dialogue that is written for him. You know why I am looking forward to this film? Because Quentin is making a movie that has an original idea again. I loved Kill Bill and Death Proof (one of the few on here), but this finally feels like a wholly original vision again. And anyone who thinks it is a copy of the dirty dozen doesn't know the plot.

Wookie1972, I'm not saying Roth directs Chinatown. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't shoot all the scenes in his movies in one take. "Cut! Golden!" Romper Stomper was nothing special other than Crowe's performance (though I think he's done better work since), imo, but Chopper was fantastic all round, and yeah, Bana was fucking AMAZING in that. He really has yet to live up to that potential in American movies.

As for Shoshanna, it's too bad this wasn't being made a few years ago, because I was always picturing Marion Cotillard as the older Shoshanna when reading the script. But now, just like Green and Tatou, she's just a bit too old. Though, of those 3, I still say she'd be the most convincing (plus she's the best actress of the bunch).

I put them about even, but at least Crowe is in his element. Fucking for the last time Bana is a fucking comedian? Even he doesn't understand why he gets the roles he does, watch any interview with him. Chopper had one really cool part with the Poem at the end, the rest was long and boring. Romper was alright, Crowe finally topped his performance with Master and Commander, or if you don't watch movies then Gladiator.

As a Roth casting hater, I think you defending him as "It could be worse" is the problem. He HAS acted on screen before and has been a distracting fuckwit each time. Pam Grier? David Carradine? Even at their worst they chew scenery and exude confidence and charisma.

I just think it is such a colossal blunder and he is so inappropriate for the role that it drives me crazy.

I mean, you've seen Eli. Would you ever in a million years describe the guy as "bad-ass"? It's an ego stroke and it sucks.

Again, it's QT's movie, so he is free to do whatever. I'm just saying it's stupid.

it actually does make sense, golden hair equals pretty boy bs roles and darker hair equals darker, edgier roles. I like Legends of the Fall though, why do you guys not like it? I've heard it compared to a soap opera but I dont see it, I think it's epic, well shot and Tristan is a supreme badass, he even scalps germans...isnt there at least some talk of scalping in IB?

Yeah, I am defending Roth as a "could be worse" casting. Like I said above, Sandler would have fucking KILLED it in this role. But I'm going to leave it to Quentin. I don't believe that he's such and "old hack" that he would sacrifice his entire movie to fulfill some sort of nepotistic urge. Here's the way I feel about Roth in his films: He's been a distracting comic foil. In Cabin Fever, he was the stoner dude with all the weed, in Grindhouse he was the dude that wanted the pussy. But every time I saw him I was kind of pleased that he was there for those brief moments. He's NOT going to run this movie, people. Can any of us maybe just trust QT's instincts, just a little bit? You know Roth is not going to sit back and jack off. He's going to show the world what he can do, and maybe QT saw that in him. Why the fuck am I even trying? People are still going to hate on whatever he comes up with, and I'm going to be having Inglorious Bastards parties with all my friends in 2010, complete with bbq and beer. Meanwhile Joss Whedon will make some guy cry because Buffy died in the comics or something.

I can just see Quentin casting himself as the black guy (because Quentin really wants to be black anyway) a la Downey Jr.'s transformation in TROPIC THUNDER.

My 'liking the script above average' is quickly turning into something I'm not even looking forward to anymore. Sorry Quentin, but if you ever had 'IT', you don't anymore.

I don't care that Pitt is playing a hillbilly from West Va, I just think the concept of a hillybilly Jew seems overwrought. Yes, there were Jews in West Va, apparently there were several Jewish communities dating back to the 1860s, but it just seems like Tarantino is forcing the Jewish issue. If Pitt's character isn't Jewish that's a different story. I have little hope for this movie anyway, because Tarantino is too in love with himself and reads too many articles that call him a genius. Part of being an auteur is developing something new, and unique, copying genres and just adding a lot of over the top violence and "snappy" dialogue is hackdom, not genius.

i'm surprised that no one on here has trounced brad pitt.

please allow me...

brad pitt has been in some of the most memorable movies of the last 17 years. but, he's not a good actor. he is beautiful to look at. he can draw from his southern missouri upbringing to play a hick convincingly (kalifornia). but...

in snatch he ripped off benicio's usual suspects character.

in se7en he was surrounded by an awesome script, david fincher, and morgan freeman.

fight club:ditto (freeman=norton)

12 monkeys was a manic and unfocused performance (which fit the role), but he's recreated that flick-y energy for "burn after reading" (which will probably be good...thanks to the coens)

he's all clooney-d out. he's larger than life charisma, with very little back it up. put him in a suit with a gun and he looks cool...big deal. he's been compared to robert redford...robert redford is a great actor. he's subtly expressive and gives characters humanity.

pitt plays a charicature of what guys want to be. and, his looks are the main part of that. would anyone know him if he looked like john c. reilly? what does ptt ever add?

i haven't seen jesse james...perhaps he's matured. but, it has always bugged me that people fawn all over him because he's given great roles.

by the way, i will probably see this movie in the theaters. tarantino is derivative, but at least he steals from the good shit.

let's bludgeon shia lebeouf to death.

eh your arguments are weak at best, ripping off benicio? please, why because they both talked fast? weak. being critical because he was surrounded by good cast and crew in seven and fight club? Those things are what make good movies and good performances, you know along with the good actors that portray those performances. weak. you praised 12 monkeys and then claim he will be good in BAR because of the directors. What is the point of that? Good directors get good performances from their actors, that doesnt diminish the job the actor does. weak. what is this suit and a gun shit? weak, thats what. Do yourself a favor and see jesse james, it's easily some of the best acting from last year (you know along with Javier Bardem, Daniel Fucking Day Lewis and Casey Affleck in the same film) Great roles aren't great until they are brought to life by great actors. I agree T is derivative and your comment about bludgeoning shia to death almost makes me not want to add this last bit but you brought it on yourself really. So in summation, your shit is weak. I love you guys that hate on BP cause he's God's gift, jealousy is an ugly motherfucker, especially around here it seems...

Yeah, yeah. It's Quentin's show, and maybe Eli could be serviceable or even good. But I just have to question it. Quentin Tarantino, people. Regardless of whether or not you like his films, I expect he still has more than enough cred to cast virtually anyone he wants in any role and that actor would jump at the chance to take part. So you're going to tell me with a straight face that Eli Roth - Quentin's friend - is the best actor for the role? Sorry - I don't buy it. That all said, I haven't read the script, so it might not even be an important role. Or maybe I'm completely in the wrong. Just count me very skeptical.

he's mediocre as an actor. and, brilliant as a face.

he has rarely gone outside of his comfort zone. he has consistently done "cool" roles in "cool" movies, but that doesn't make him redford or olivier or rush, or even depp.

and, i'm not even a huge depp fan.

Here was my Val Kilmer analogy, which I admit is not perfect: Val Kilmer is part American Indian. Gandhi was East Indian. Therefore, by the same logic that Pitt "played a Gypsy", Kilmer could conceivably play East Indian. And yes, there are blond, blue eyed Jews. I'm not saying that all the Basterds should look like they came right off a Kibbutz. But Pitt is probably one of the most WASPy looking actors since Robert Redford, and it just doesn't seem right to have him playing ethnic.

What I'm saying is that here, in the UK, the terms pikey and gypsy are entirely interchangable. You go up to someone in the street and say gypsy and they will think 'travelling person who tarmacs drives and sells clothespegs' before they think of romanys. The genus of the word may derive from the Romanys, but here and now in the UK that's not what people mean when they say gypsy. Race doesn't really come into it in the modern use.

Tarantino hasn't had a good film since Pulp Fiction. Jackie Brown was decent, at best. Kill Bill Vol 1 was fun the first time around but now has lost its fun (I would rather watch the films he ripped-off making KBV1). Vol 2 was overlong crap, same with Death Proof. Now this, which sounded ridiculous when it was going to be an "homage" to WWII men-on-a-mission films, and now sounds a thousand times worse. Tarantino had his day with Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction...basically, when he and Roger Avary were still friends.

I've read the script and Pitt will be perfect for this character. If I was him I'd ask QT to reconsider some of the casting. The character that Eli Roth is supposed to play is a BAD ASS and has some important things to do. Eli Roth is a no talent ass clown who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. BP shouldn't want this douchebag anywhere near the set when this thing starts. And if the rumors are true, and they are looking for a studio to pump money into this thing then they should invest in a amazing cast for BP to act with. QT is a believer in his own hype. His script is great, but why would he turn the words over to someone like Eli Roth? Adam Sandler would have been a great, interesting choice. Punch Drunk Love anyone? When he smashes the glass sliding glass door at his sisters house? That's the character in Inglorious Bastards, not this turd from the Bar scene in Death Proof. He's so hard to watch. WTF! really.

All right, let's get a few things straight. First, Pitt is highly underrated and I think gets hated on b/c he's so dreamy and whatnot. Nothing like trying to trash an actor by mentioning all the awesome movies he's been in (one of which earned him an Oscar nomination). Even look at other off-the-wall roles like Meet Joe Black (don't knock it) and Jesse James. I suppose he was just coasting off of Casey Affleck? Get out of here. You could just as easily go the other way and say that if Pitt lacked the chops, it would be that much more obvious when he's acting against Freeman, Norton, Hopkins, Bana, etc, etc.

Eli Roth definitely sounds questionable, but in addition to being homeboys, he and Tarantino both can't seem to resist getting in front of the camera--with results ranging from mediocre to disastrous. Sandler would be umpteen-hundred% better. Also, I hear someone talking about how good it is for QT to be doing something original, but isn't this a remake? I love how all he has to do is simply put a catchy title onto a catchy premise, and all the sudden it is the movie event of the decade (how long have we been hearing about this thing anyway?). I think he's an unprofilic dude who's done some cool movies with ridiculously over-the-top dialogue. He's easily as overrated as a talent as Pitt is underrated.

Been a bit anxious for this one to pan out for the past few years of “developmental hell” that it’s been stuck in for Kill Bill…or pushed aside for the Mandarin flick that Tarantino was itchin’ to do…thank Christmas that didn’t happen. Overall…I am & always will be a huge fan of Tarantino’s but he is & can come across a bit…eccentric from time to time. Inglorious should be a goody…but it’s going to be chock full of criticism over ripping from films like “the Good the Bad & the Ugly” (b‘cuz he always pulls on this one) & the original Inglorious B’s. In the end…QT is good at what he does…whether you think that’s him being a copy cat or not…the man has flare & he’s a credit to the genre…no matter which one it is he’s waxing & directing. Personally I like his earlier materials more than I did the Kill Bill flic/flics & Death Proof. Nothing touches Jackie Brown for me. I still remember seeing that in the theatre & being so surprised at how deep the characters were & how well he pulled the emotions out of them. I hope he can do the same with IB & get back to form. I like the addition of Pitt…or Pitt being the landmark of the film…then again…I’m a huge fan of Pitt in the end…no shame there.
