I saw the Britney - QT story online yesterday, and it wasn't on some fanboy or tabloid website. Now I'm a sensible guy, I know QT's got Glorious Bastards in the works right now, but it makes you think - couldn't QT be multi-tasking right now? Isn't it possible to be working on 2 films at once? Appreciate the update, Mori, but you can avoid the condescending tone in your story next time, can't you?

While watching The Dark Knight for the second time after it blew me away and left me gasping the first time round I realised for a comic book movie it's not much fun!

I know it's called DARK Knight and I always bang on about how comic book movies should be more real and less goofy and when I came out of it on opening night i thought Nolan had made the perfect Batman movie but on repeat viewing it's actually like being Kidnapped and fucking tortured by a lunatic for 2 and a half hours!

Can't really complain but maybee Hellboy 2 (i'm UK)might be easier on my old ticker!

I hope Nolan doesn't make a 3rd Batman.
by Knuckleduster
Aug 7th, 2008
07:55:03 AM
I adore Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but I really hope that he moves on to other projects. A filmmaker shouldn't hang around the same subject for too long. Sooner or later disappointment is inevitable. Just look at Raimi and the Spidey movies. The bigger these movies get,the more a studio interferes. I don't want Nolan making a Spider-man 3 just because he's getting paid a ton of money. I don't want rabid fanboys calling him a hack the same way they did with Raimi.

I know that if anyone can make three great Batman movies in a row, it's Nolan. But I'd rather see him move on. I think he's done all he wanted to do in the Batman universe.

by OBSD
Aug 7th, 2008
08:39:38 AM
Actually, she is an Icon to gay men. I haven't met a gay guy yet who wasn't completely in love with her, hence the "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE" guy. Most women have the "oh, her poor kids" attitude, and most straight guys think that she used to be hot, but not anymore, and her music was garbage no matter what year you're talking about. Does that make someone an icon? I don't know. Besides, she wouldn't be in a remake of Faster Pussycat for the simple reason that her bra size isn't double G.

John Edward
by enderandrew
Aug 7th, 2008
08:53:40 AM
SciFi's John Edward has been signed on to help channel the ghost of Heath Ledger for Batman 3. The film will be titled "Massive Fucking Payday Returns". Haley Joel Osmet is 100% confirmed as Robin. He said the thing that sealed the deal was the contract stipulation that specifies his cod piece will be bigger than the one Chris O'Donnell used. Bryan Singer is leaving behind both X-Men and Supes to direct. Bryan Singer already had the Robin codpiece in his personal collection at home, and seemed the natural fit for the franchise. And Batman is going to be bitten by a radioactive bat and develop organic Batarangs. Michael Schumaker is being brought on as a creative consultant, with the explicit directive that they never do anything he suggests, unless it involves a random, gratuitous shot of Alicia Silverstone's ass.

I mean really. Who gives a shit if people talk about Batman 3 now? Do you really care? Don't start thinking you're any better than any of us - we and you, we're exactly the same. So take your self-righteous indignation about these "dumb rumors" and cram it up your fat ass.

Nolan said when he agreed to do Dark Knight, he pitched a concept for a two-movie storyline. The principle returning actors are all signed, and Nolan wouldn't have pitched a two-movie storyline if he didn't already know what he wanted to do largely with the next one. No one has heard or suggested that he has a next project lined up that he is burning to do first (like the Prestige) so I don't know that Nolan will do another movie first or not. Nolan's next film could very well be Batman 3.

Please name one evil act that Darth Maul ever did. Did he murder people for information? Did he use Force Lightning or any Dark Side powers? In the end of the movie he stands in a doorway, with pilots, Padme, etc. in the way of him and the Jedi. He lets them walk away unscathed, and seeks nothing more than what he believes is the just killing of Jedi. Vader was an evil fuck, and he never developed the Sith Eyes when the mask comes off in RotJ.

If that's still the ending, you spoiled it again. That's kinda funny. This also reminds me of the time Bruce Willis wasn't Bruce Willis, but then turned out to be Bruce Willis. No offense Moriarty, but your debunking skills aren't that great. A rumor isn't false just because it sounds stupid to you. That was how you accidently posted the Terminator spoiler in the first place. Because you thought it was soooooo stupid that it couldn't possibly be true. For all we know Nolan promised the Riddler to Depp at Parisian fish fry this morning. Sure Nolan probably isn't doing anything about Batman 3 right now, but just because that's probably the case doesn't mean it is. It's not killing anyone to read rumors and speculation that later turns out to be false. If you're going to confirm information then fine, but saying rumors aren't true because you don't think they are is just as presumptuous as posting unsubstantiated rumors as fact.

Batman still on the run from the police. Gordon has his hands full having to pretend to be hunting him while finally trying to root out the corruption in his office. Joker copy cats like Riddler are running amuck. The theme of the movie is about Gotham finally taking the hint and learning to fight corruption and demand justice in their own right, and not waiting for a Batman or Harvey Dent to hand it to him. Public pressure and the willingness of people frightened for decades to come forward and name names is what breaks the back of the mob. Riddler highers bane, a "glorified mexican wrestler" who happens to be 400lbs of pure muscle mass, (steroids are hinted at,) to kill Batman. Batman defeats Bane and Riddler, but is crippled with a severe, (but not permanent,) lower back injury. Batman's identity revealed to the public. The movie ends with the people hailing him as almost a messiah figure, (for showing them the way, not to be afraid) while the courts are trying to nail him. He and alfred flee the country, and on a remote tropical island, he begins a long recovery. The series seems to be over, and Nolan will joke for the next decade that he and bale will return in 2025 to adapt "The Dark Knight Returns."

You're my personal favorite reviewer on this site, because your views on the movies that are out are usually very close to my own opinions. So, I figure you are a voice of reason that I can trust.

But when you say shit like "Because they don’t deserve any further life, and I certainly hope people don’t start quoting them as fact." it comes across as incredibly self-important. What gives you the right to say which rumours deserve to live or die? Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends.

Like those rumors about Rob Zombie directing Conan? The 'rumor of the rumor' was that there was no "trade" talks on this and that the Zombie camp fielded it falsely to see the reaction. If the reaction was good then they could maybe hit the production with fan backing...thankfully the reaction was bad as we don't need a god damn hillbilly Conan played by Bill Mosely fighting Thulsa Doom as played by Zombie's wife (she'd have to be there somewhere no matter what as he is incapable, like Rodriguez used to be, of not putting his girl in anything he does).

Some rumors are indeed unlikely given various industry and individual circumstances and some might be off a strategy.

Personally...rumor s tend to fall into "spoiler" territory for me so I usually ignore them if I'm really psyched to see the end product.

That said, rumor or not, Hoffman would be perfect as Penguin! (altho I don't think Penguin is remotely perfect, much less fitting, for Nolan's Batman, but if anyone could do it, the Nolan's could!).

I don't care if the rumors are false... still fun to speculate

There are many reasons not to believe FPKK rumours, but the fact that Tarantino is working on Inglorious Bastards right now is not one of them. Filmmakers often work on several projects at once - at different stages of development. Spielberg usually has more than one film on the go at any one time and some films are often cast ridiculously early. To say that no reports about a filmmaker's next film are true until they've finished their current one is ridiculous, since even press releases are often made in this kind of timeframe.

So, we might still know nothing a year from now. There's no reason to expect that we will. But just because we don't know doesn't mean there's nothing TO know. Remember, there are always going to be rumors, and some will turn out to not be true. (Like if someone is considered for casting and then turns out not to get it, or their PR machine tries to pre-hype them before-the-fact).

However, what Mori is doing is pointing out the rumors that everyone should know are completely, blatantly, 100% false and the absurdity of how they even gained traction. And rightly so. Seriously, if I saw one more Angelina Jolie for Catwoman / Johnny Depp as the Riddler article I was going to scream. Good job, Mori, and I hope to see more of the same from time to time.

Actually, Nolan's comments in most articles on the development of Dark Knight point to the fact that they didn't have a plan for it while filming Batman Begins (other than introducing the Joker in the final scene.)

Maybe Nolan has some ideas locked in his head, but if a studio tried to tell the Nolans or Goyer to work out a franchise outline for free before they started working on the Dark Knight, they would have told the studio to go fuck themselves.

When the mask came off in ROTJ he was redeemed already, thus his sith eyes were no longer sithy.

And if you follow EU stuff, you'll see that Darth Maul did some pretty unethical stuff, too.

But who says the Sith are 'evil' anyway? I see it as two sects of a religion who disagree on HOW to follow their religion. Sith vs. Jedi is like Protestant vs. Catholic (or vice versa). They both have the same god (The Force) but HOW they pray is the issue.

I think evil depends on your point of view. I don't think Palpatine thinks he's evil. I think he believes he's ordered, and that he must control the galaxy in order for it to be secure. I think he REALLY BELIEVES the Jedi are the ones to blame for all the chaos and disorder. They refuse to use the whole Force, shunning the dark side out of some monastic need to put themselves above others, and tying their version of the religion up in bureaucracy and red tape.

So when you say, "What evil things did he do?" I think you miss the point. Sith aren't evil, and their weird eyes don't come from doing evil-- The eyes change because they're using Force powers that Jedi refuse to use, and it's those Force abilities that cause the physical change.

What is fairly obvious is that the frustration of dealing with this site in general and the commentary specifically is wearing Moriarty down. Moriarty offers the best reviews (generally) and, to be perfectly fair is actually above this site and most of the posters. That being said, one should have little sympathy for a person who willingly deals with the dregs of discourse only to later complain about those dealings. how many seriel killers have we seen tease the police and media with clues/notes

Zodiac, BTK, and more then a few others I'm sure

if that's the case why couldn'tthey do something similar with the Riddler, I'm not saying make him a seriel killer, but more along the lines of an urban/cyber terrorist. Someone who is terroizing Gotham, stealing money from banks, playing with traffic lights, television reception, whiping out the police database, whiping out eletrcity causing blackouts etc, each crime a little bit...more and each time teasing the police/media with a clue

if you can cite HEAT (and I have) as an "influence" on TDK why not Zodiac for Bats 3. Show Gordan and Batman and have them obessing over this madman's clues, all the while Batman being protrayed as the badguy in the media, with the cops, in the public's mind

I'm not in any way suggestion Johnny Depp as the Riddler, I think I'd rather see David Tennent or even Christopher Eccelston in that role

if they insist on Penguin, ignore ignore ignore Burton's retcon of making him a deformed freak but make him more along the lines of an overweight mobster who HATES the Penguin moniker, make him a flat out evil bastard

OBSD... you might be onto something.

Hall's character has the wrong name, but other than that he closely resembles the Creeper's alter ego. OTOH, The Creeper would be quite a bit outside Nolan's "realistic" ideal.

...by insisting on complete realism. For me, the best model for Nolan's Gotham is not the Dark Knight Returns or even Year One but the Gotham Central series. I've argued with several people that the Penguin should be a pimp or at least the owner of a "gentleman's club." I like the idea that he hates the name Penguin (similar to Bugsy Siegal or Baby Face Nelson). The Riddler probably wouldn't work as a mobster, but Catwoman could work as just a cat burglar. Maybe Deadshot?

You don't have that power. Ignorant people will continue to be ignorant to movies because it's not their interest the same as it is yours or mine or anyone on this site. The people standing in line while your waiting for your Pineapple Express tickets ro whatever who say "Johnny Depp is the Riddler" they just dont visit sites like these, so no, you can't stop rumors.

BTW my friend told me the Johnny Depp rumor, thought it was true. I know better than to try and correct people these days, I just say "oh" and let them believe whatever they want. When the movie rolls around all their mis-information will be turned around anyway

Every rumour I can think of about Batman, from the top...

Batman (1989) was originally going to star Bill Murray. Robin was going to be in it. Robin was going to be in Batman Returns, but he was going to be a black kid. The Joker didn't really die in the Burton Batman. Michelle Pfeiffer was going to play Catwoman in a spinoff movie. Robin Williams was going to play The Riddler. Mickey Dolenz was going to play The Riddler (no, really). Howard Stern was going to play Scarecrow... What's my point? My point is that it's just natural to speculate. Everybody needs to just chill.

Rob Liefeld is getting together with Paul WS Anderson to make a movie based upon his 90's comic, Youngblood. It will star Brad Pitt as Shaft, Haley Joel Osment as Bedrock, Michael Jai White as Chapel, and William Hurt as Diehard. As AWFUL as that movie would be. I'd watch THE SHIT out of it, LOL.

Sydney Lumet's prophetic hit, Network, is going to be remade by the Apatow crew! Seth Rogan can do the William Holden role, Vince Vaughn could tackle Peter Finches part, Faye Dunaway's character can be played by Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill can be the evil Arthur Jenson! As blasphemous as that would be... I'd watch the THE SHIT out of it.

Okay, I have 5 minutes at this terminal and then Nolan will be back to pick up his fan mail. So I have to make this quick.

SPOILER

The big mind-frak is going to be that they actually filmed Batman 3 at the same time Batman 2 was filmed. No shit.

They have this in the can. Heath delivered an amazing second round, and the Penguin (Vern Troyer, in his most insane /intense role to date) is going to blow your mind as Oswald Cobblepot.

But first Nolan is secretly doing the Memento sequel, which is going to come out first. Crazy stuff there -- title is tentatively "Memento 2: I Remember Sammy Jenkis", and the kicker is that George Carlin managed to get this one wrapped in secret before he died, and he laid down the role of his life.

Anyway, this should tide the die hard Nolan fans over until his next big project following those, which is going to be ... are you ready????? ... Ghostbusters 3!!! Murray is signed, Ackroyd has signed a binding agreement that stipulates he has to be funny again, and apparently Moranis is going to appear for 5 minutes while the credits run before being killed by a vengeful Gozer the Gozarian (Chevy Chase, in what is set to be the comeback role of the decade), because apparently Rick's gotten all cocky and pretentious and stuff, but needs the money.

I have more, but I hear Nolan coming back and I need to alphabetize his fan mail quick ....

Fuck Riddler! Victor Fries as old colleague of Lucious Fox...

Riddlers just a villain devised solely to exploit batman's "detective" side. Theres no story nor character there other than a poetic freak in a mask. Bring on Mr. Freeze. Introduce him as an old colleague of Fox, brought into Wayne Enterprises for a two way deal. He helps them develop cryogenic weapory for Batman, they finance his research in curing his cryogenically frozen terminally ill wife. Two-Face or whoever is villain this time round interrogates sniveling Reese dude from DK into revealing Wayne as Batman. Shit his fan at Wayne Enterprises, villain makes Fries suffer by breaking his wifes cryo tube and inflicting his own icy chemicals on him. Fueled by vengeance, Freeze constructs his cryosuit using a combination of his own technology and the same materials Fox uses to build Batmans suit. Goes after villain who killed his wife, only batman stands between the two. Least thats how I'd do it. Keep the Govenator and the cheezy one liners out of it, maybe cast BRUCE WILLIS as Freeze, you got yourself a movie.

They blew up an entire planet based on conflicting reports of possible rebel activity. Even if they didn't think themselves evil, killing the mostly innocent population of a planet to test a gun and have a slim chance of hitting some of your enemies is evil.

Nolan would probably never even consider such a casting choice if he even ever cinsiders a Riddler villain. Every character Depp has ever created has been too laid-back. Besides, going with The Riddler right after The Joker runs the risk of being a bit redundant. Nolan will probably go in another direction next.

Aren't you forgetting the 1966 movie based on the TV show, or the 1943 Batman movie based off the serials? Batman 3 would actually be Batman 9. And then, it depends if you count the animated Batman movies like Mask of the Phantasm.

Maybe it's for the best. Funny, though... I'd almost like to see some. This has got the potential to really blow up and be one of those crazy fun talkback wars that happens every so often. Doesn't happen so much these days, though. This subject does have enough potential for a good war, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

...if it can be called that, was the fake episode 3 script review posted here. My sides were literally aching from laughter as I read it and the following talkback.

This is the infamous script with "Grando Carlissian" borrowing his dad's keys to the Falcon, the self-igniting Yoda calling Sidious a "Sith Witch" and fighting with black lightsabers. It was hysterical.

There is no chance I character wearing a cryo-suit that keeps him cold would ever work unless we are dealing with pure fantasy. It doesn't matter how much rationale is given. It would be absurd. The best villain for Batman 3 is none. Make the film just about Batman.
