I can understand that, but detached from being a history lesson it's a fascinating movie at times. Granted, it's carried FAR more by Hopkin's portrayal than anything else, but despite the "bomb" label it gets, it may be my favorite Oliver Stone movie after "Platoon." I realize no one cares, just thought I'd throw it out there. If the actors bring their "A" games, this might avoid being a massive train wreck. Otherwise it's either too soon or too late to show the human side of the worst President in my lifetime (but not of ALL time...that's going a little overboard with guys like Buchanan and Grant in the books.

embarrassing for Stone and company. Don't get me wrong, I'm liberal as hell, but that doesn't change the possibility that this could be a disaster. And another thing: Oliver wants this to come out before Nov. election. But Bush isn't running, it's another person. Sure he'll say that McCain is simply another retread of this administration, but often times these things end up backfiring for their side. i.e. Micheal Moore, celeb endorsements etc. Regular folk don't favor having the rich actors tell them how to think, even though they have their best interest when it comes to our pocketbooks. But one thing is for sure: the American public can at times be fooled into thinking that the elephants have their best interests at hand. Esp. the south! For those that would love a great book on how the elephants tricked the working men and women out of their votes check out "What's the Matter with Kansas?: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America" Here is a brief excerpt: The largely blue collar citizens of Kansas can be counted upon to be a "red" state in any election, voting solidly Republican and possessing a deep animosity toward the left. This, according to author Thomas Frank, is a pretty self-defeating phenomenon, given that the policies of the Republican Party benefit the wealthy and powerful at the great expense of the average worker. According to Frank, the conservative establishment has tricked Kansans, playing up the emotional touchstones of conservatism and perpetuating a sense of a vast liberal empire out to crush traditional values while barely ever discussing the Republicans' actual economic policies and what they mean to the working class. Thus the pro-life Kansas factory worker who listens to Rush Limbaugh will repeatedly vote for the party that is less likely to protect his safety, less likely to protect his job, and less likely to benefit him economically. http://tinyurl.com/6gfazp P.S. I should know, I'm from Oklahoma and it drives me crazy how stupid and short-sided 80% of this state is when it comes to politics. Oh, i just guessed at that percentages btw.

Alexander and WTC were disappointments. Hopefully Oliver has learned from those recent missteps. Honestly I'll be happy if W. is simply as good as AGS. If its entertaining and thought provoking enough it will be a hit...Period.

I think what Stone is saying with this poster is that politics is an illusion. Smoke and mirrors. Not so much as it is the political process in general. Its about appearances and underneath it all its a very hollow world filled with vapid people too concerned with how they are perceived in the media than what they are doing as leaders.

but I like the poster. Here, Bush is distant, alone and looking solemn framed by the slightly out of focus yet prominent and equally still, solitary flags that he represents all set against the blank, grey wall. That part of the image by itself, along with the washed out colors, I think makes us see/feel for Bush the man and the weight he bears. He's completely surrounded in the foreground by the hubbub of the big mike, big comb, big brush and the woman's big arm and head which are only concerned with his exterior and seem to further accentuate and isolate Bush. Then the words Get Ready propels the image from the man we see in the poster, to the most powerful man in the world who ultimately makes the decisions that determines the fate of so much in the world. I think it's different, in some ways subtle, emotional, yet powerful. shows us the personal and public side of W.

I agree with you, it's probably what he's saying, but I hope he says it clearly enough that America gets it. Why didn't he make a film about Clinton with a poster like this? Let me just add, I'm a pretty die-hard Democrat, and the reason I'm sort of disappointed in this poster is that (in my opinion) it gives another excuse to ignore Stone's movies because they'll say "Yup, he's not being fair." Although then again, people are going to disregard the movie no matter what *because* it's Oliver Stone. Any political movie he makes gets ripped apart as partisan. BTW the movie "The Hand" freaked me out when I was a kid.

Is Bush obsessed with his hair? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v = 2AE847UXu3Q for John Edwards vs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v = 53MPFsgkgEY for Bush. Both videos are sort of amazing, actually.

i think that some of you have become so polarized by 24 hout news pundits and such , that you can't see the forest for the trees . No matter who the Prez is , it's all the same old stuff . Federal politics blind you from the politics that actually impact you in your day to day life . Local politics... The news tells you that the economy is bad ( 18 months before there was any such growth loss at all ) then SURPRISE!! there is a slow down. But a slowdown in growth... not a recession . We are the only country in the world who sees a slowdown in economic growth as a recession . many countries would scream to have even a tiny percentage of growth , but we are spoiled babies who blame the president for everything ( regardless who it is ). The president didn't make you max out your credit cards and treat luxury items as neccesities .... Blame yourselves. But nobody does that anymore , this culture of victimization has created a people who blame others for their own misbahaviors... tragic Yes I am a republican , but I don't condone the spending of this "neocon" group that seems to have taken over . I want smaller govt , I want limited ( if any ) entitlements , i don't want govt bailouts of corporations and I don't give a damn about social politics. In other words , I'm a Goldwater Republican. This movie may turn out to be a one sided load of malarky , or it may actually be relatively fair . ( I thought Nixon turned out to be a lot fairer to the man than it was going to be , kinda made Nixon look like he was kinda driven to paranoia by JFK's assassination and hiring the wrong group of folks around him ..hopefully this movie will be as fair . Please lefties , stop thinking you have some high road or are the only people who know whats going on and the people in the south and mid-west are stupid . We have a pretty good handle on things you know , and calling us stupid is not exactly going to endear someone to your cause is it ?

And I think Brolin will knock this out of the park, regardless of your political stripe.

I do find it funny that some of Hollywoods most notorious liberals (Cromwell, Dreyfuss, Brolin being Streisand's son-in-law) are cast in key roles.

I would have prefered it to come out at the same time next year, just in case there's something monumental that should be included in his last few months in office. But it may seem unneccesary right now to all of us who deal with bush every day and see what a moron he is. But this movie will be a great thing for future generations. When you can have a big release biopic about how shitty a sitting president is then you know we live in a country with a lot of freedom. Time has really glossed over a lot of presidents and their accomplishments and mistakes. But thanks to the internet and movies like this one this louse will be remembered for stealing an election and throwing our country into turmoil. A more fitting tribute I can't imagine.

I think this poster really exemplifies what the film is going to be about. It shows Bush all alone, being made up by faceless strangers before he takes center stage for a televised speech (I imagine the notorious one when he announced the US was going into Iraq). I think Brolin was a great choice to play the man himself, and if any director can successfully pull off a film of this proportion, it's Oliver Stone. Look forward to seeing it this fall

O SHIT! Look at the mess that an inexperienced, racist hyper-liberal retard like Obama would cause this nation! Its a good thing that he is finally falling behind in the polls! Obama is an unqualified dick who doesn't deserve a chance as President.

I don't care what you believe (if you are gullible enough) about Bush. Obama would be FAR WORSE!

Obama is the 2nd coming of Jimmy Fucking Carter mixed with George McGovern with the B.O. stench of Teddy Kennedy's putrid and murderous jock/rape strap! I wouldn't vote for Obama if he was the only person running. Hillary or McCain would be the only choice in 2008.

Since Hillary was betrayed by the leftists in control of her party, our selection is John McCain -or- the most putrid and pompous dick ever to grace the halls of Congress (albeit for only about 3 months before deciding that he was "qualified enough" to run for President).

My vote if for a maverick war hero who was serving this nation from a POW cell while Obama was shooting up with cocaine at Harvard. Obama is a cynical prick, a pompous, self-righteous dick, and come November, he will go back to his buddies Tony Rezko, Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright in Chicago.

Of course, Obama just thinks that we are "bitter." LOOK IN THE MIRROR, DICK! You are a cynical little pessimist, aren't you?!?
Democrats go on vacation
by AntoniusBloc
Aug 4th, 2008
05:28:03 PM
While we suffer high gas prices, and refuse to even vote on an energy bill that will help us to be energy independant, therefore more secure, and would contribute to future lower gas prices. President Bush has already acted, lifting the ban to drill our own oil, now it's up to congress to move this forward. What does the democratic majority do? They vote to go on vacation instead of allowing a vote on an important energy bill that would allow us to drill our own oil and not depend on those hostile to us. What's disturbing here is the elitism of the Democrats. They are financially secure, gas prices don't effect them that much. But for the average citizen, the sooner congress acts, the sooner gas prices go down, and the sooner real relief goes to the average american: where it counts, at the gas pump. The extremist environmental democrats, (of course only americans deserve a good environment since they are willing to accept foreign oil) are putting our national security at risk and pointlessly making the average american suffer from these high gas prices.

What a waste this film is now that the results of most of President Bush's policies are showing to be successes, and those that aren't successful, especially as it relates to the ecomomy, are showing to be the fault of a Democratic congress refusing to act; they would rather go on vacation than solve a real problem the average american faces; President Bush, as usual, took the lead to provide real relief; the Democrats choose to go on vacation, and have a good laugh about the new Oliver Stone film. I can't wait to see the backlash on this film as we realize how we are going to miss the true leadership of the outgoing President.

The republicans are going to go after obama all guns blazing. McCain if he does win will be a one term president. I hope obama wins. but I have an awful feeling McCain will give the republicans thier third. Political parties in Ireland like McCain. they see him as reliable.
House Republicans rebel
by AntoniusBloc

Despite the Democratic majority refusing to vote, and deciding to close down congress and go on vacation, some House republicans are protesting the move, insisting that the american people deserve better, and continuing to remain in Congress: (The Politico) Continuing with their guerilla tactics from last week, House Republicans will be back on the floor Monday to talk gas prices, even though Congress is in recess, and they may stay there all week. Here's the story:

More than a dozen Republicans have already committed to make appearances, according to House GOP leadership aide, including National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (Ga.). Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) and Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who lead Friday's five-hour talkathon after the House shut down for the August recess, are also expected to be there, according to this aide. "In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (“A Call to Action on American Energy”), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Friday’s action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going," said a press release just released by Minority Leader Boehner's office. “It’s not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering,” Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies. ” The session will not be televised, since C-Span does not control the cameras inside the House chamber. Rather, those come under the purview of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats, and they're unlikely to do anything to help Republicans. But Republicans felt they got a lot of good press out of Friday's "revolt," so they will be back at it again, and younger GOP lawmakers were clearly energized by the tactic, something not evident among Republicans for most of the 110th Congress.

That's his answer to higher gas prices, along with getting a 'tune-up'. Since he's driven everywhere, he doesn't realize how pointless this is. And Stone wants to ridicule President Bush? In the meantime, Obama is in line with the Democrats in congress who refused to allow a vote to pass an energy bill that would start the process of providing real relief to the american people to lower gas prices. Not insult our intelligence and tell us to inflate our tires. What's next, turn off the AC?

And the dems know that even allowing that vote to go through could mean sub $100 oil by Sept which would hurt Obama's chances. The danger here is that the public will begin to catch on to the game, which is why Obama is "softening his take" on offshore drilling. 'You get no relief today, but I'm softening my take... for tomorrow' -wink wink-. He should just be honest and tell the American people that the Democrats and the media will stop trying to strangle the country if they will just kneel and kiss the hand in November.

Obama is a MASTER. Dodges rhetorical bullets left and right, always keeps on message, never loses his cool, always manages a cool twist of phrase. He calms off as calm, though passionate. And no, not prepared speeches from teleprompter, I'm talking about answers delivered from questions asked during interviews in addition to his speeches.

On the other hand, wvery time McCain speaks he seems out-of-touch, vaguely confused, sweaty, surly, and angry. He blusters, tries to clumsily use Obama's "hope and change" rhetoric. (Btw its a pretty clear tell who has control of the narrative when one candidate has to swipe the other guys message.) He comes off like the old guy telling the kids to get off his lawn. And I mean, equating Obama with Britney Spears and Paris HIlton.. aftet the Hilton family pledged all kinds of money to McCain's campaign?! Man oh man. Its a close race, to be sure, but its Obama's to lose. All he has to do is keep doing what he's doing, and McCain will inevitably lose his cool and blow up on camera. Then its done and done.

Its not a popularity contest. Its the fact that we alienated nearly ALL of our allies by creating false intelligence to start an unjustifiable war. Allies we need if we are going to win this war. Clearly, we can't do it alone.

The world was on our side after 9/11. They were on our side with the invasion of Afghanistan. But when the Bush Admin started making shit up? Cooking intelligence to justify the unjustifiable invasion of Iraq? We lost their support. And the fact that we are losing this war shows that we can't do it unilaterally. We can't do it alone. And thats not even touching on the fact that the best way to bring in terrorists is by local law enforcement on the ground, not through a protracted asymmetrical campaign. Know what happened the last time we tried to wipe out an entrenched insurgency through asymmetrical warfare? It was called Vietnam and we got our asses kicked.

As it stands we are no longer a superpower. BUT we were previous to the Bush Admin's epic policy failures. And we still would be if we worked with our allies rather than telling them "either yer for us or agin us! duh-hilt!" I'm sure Obama realizes this and will, hopefully, act accordingly when he takes office to repair the damage dealt by 8 years of Bush's reign of error.

not theway to run a federal govt . Why is there so much anger ? Bush didn't do anything better or worse than you would've done and ALL presidents have done since we started having presidents. They put their buddies in key roles , they catered to the people that contributed money to their campaigns . Big surprise ! I also find it amusing that some of you lefties seem to get your news from Moveon.org and conspiracy books . Yet these same people are the ones screaming about GOP's getting theior news from Hannity or Limbaugh ( who at least seem to have a sense of humor ). something tells me that this anger is just a reflex action that your party seems to have picked up during the '60's and can't seem to shake off . It's very offputting and is the reason the Dem's can't win any sort of federal office anymore . Heck your last president had to pretend to be a republican just to get elected ( and then he pretty much acted liek one to with many of his policies) . The leftist socialist /communist ideals are dead . Most Americans do not want a 50% income tax welfare state. The problem lately though , has been that it isn't a matter of whether or not we have big Govt programs , but rather which big govt programs are we gonna have ? Both sides have their respective pet entitlement programs .... sickens me . The Fed. govt is not supposed ot be our babysitter. it's supposed to defend us , print our money and deal with foreign govts PERIOD!! Everything else is to be run by the states ( who do only what the local and county govts can't ) But these days it seems everybody wants a handout and nobody is responsible for their own actions and everything is the Presidents fault ( be it Clinton or Bush or whomever is President for the forseeable future ) . Why don't some of you take your rage and energy and apply it to your local city counsel meetings , it might actually end up leading to something valuable instead of whining and cussing about a President . How cliche and 1967...
The problem being...

That even the Stone films I sorta liked when I first saw them, ended up grating on my nerves upon subsequent viewings. I just can't name a single film of his that I think really works start-to-finish. There's not a one that left any real impression on me. I just don't bother even checking them out anymore.

Hannity and Limbaugh have a sense of humor? Really? Care to provide some examples of such humor? Easily the most humorless Presidential terms have to have been the Republican Congress during the Clinton years. Self-righteousness and sanctimony was being spewed from every right-wing mouth over Clinton's sins, while Republican congressmen were hiring fresh male pages to sexually harass. Seriously, your whole post rings so obviously false I'm surprised you had the gall to type it.

It's the one I'd probably put at the top, but I don't think it's a perfect film, and ultimately, it's really a pretty thin narrative. I dunno. Like I said, I liked some when I first saw them, but I have no real desire to revisit any of them, and the ones I did ended up disappointing me on subsequent viewings.

Why don't you research some of your liberal buddies?

At least Republicans abandon the "bad apples" for their sexual misconduct in public office.

Democratic Congressman Gerry Studds continuously fucked a 16 year old male page -- and was re-elected six times by his own warped, liberal constiuents!!!

Democratic Congressman Mel Reynolds was convicted of fucking a 16 year old boy -- but was pardoned by President Clinton.

Current Democratic Congressman Barney Frank fucked underage male prostitutes out of a gay prostitution ring that operated from his own home! Only two of his fellow Democrats had the moral compass to vote his censure in 1990.

Democratic Congressman Gus Savage was accused of molesting a young, underage male Peace Corps volunteer in 1989, but the Democrats who controlled Congress refused to discipline him.

Current Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii was accused of sexual harassment by 14 individuals during the 1990s. However, the Democrats didn't think that this was worth investigating

Democratic Congressman Fred Richmond from New York was arrested for having sex with a 16 year old male. However, he easily won reelection by his fellow Democrats and served until going to prison for drugs and tax evasion during the 1980s.

And of course, who could forget Teddy Kennedy? This liberal Senator was involved in a suspicious death of a young lady in 1969. He not only plead guilty of "leaving the scene of an accident" (that he himself caused), but the entire crime scene was covered up (looking a lot like a rape and murder). Of course, this knowledge probably came in handy when Uncle Teddy defended his rapist nephew in 1991.

Republicans abandon those few who are caught in such gross indiscretions. Democrats simply re-elect their fellow criminals. Of course, you will simply ignore this, won't you Sexy? You love to see only the altered shit that you want to see.

Liberal leaders of the Democratic Party think that gas prices should be high, America is the cause of turmoil in the Middle East (rather than Islamic fascism) and their warped social views should be imposed on EVERYONE.

What a bunch of fucking reprobates!

But, lol, it will be so joyous to see them lose in November! I can just see it...young liberals running to their rooms....weeping....as young Billy tells young Brad, "Hold me!"

And somewhere, Hillary will be ringing her hands with a silent smirk on her face as she prepares for 2012.

I'm ashamed to share your name with mine. ChocolateReign, thanks for being a moderate on this. Bush sucked. Hard dick knobs. Rove is currently in contempt, and is claiming immunity that he doesn't have the right to claim. Cheney will die soon. We, all of us, will get over Bush. Or country is not torpedoed. We have weathered worse. We have withstood the Civil War. We have withstood WWI and II. The Great Depression (you think your stocks suck now?). Vietnam and Jim Crow. Seventies gas prices? And 9/11 and Iraq. We'll be okay. That said, we would do well to elect Obama. Sure Chrissssmmm, and Kegan, On Fuck-Nut, On Reaganite, and Fucktard and Blitzer, Obama is a newbie. So was someone else from Illinois when they got elected... Abraham Lincoln. Let's look at the similarities between them, shall we? 1) a lawyer; 2) an Illinois state legislator; 3) lost an election to represent Illinois in the U.S. Congress; 4) spent only two years in the U.S. Congress before running for President; 5) risked political damage in opposing a war in which the U.S. invaded a foreign country; 6) delivered a famous speech on national unity as a candidate to represent Illinois in U.S. Senate, elevating his political career to the national level and paving the way for a Presidential run; 7) sought his Party’s Presidential nomination by challenging the establishment candidate, a Senator from New York, also a lawyer, who was widely expected to easily secure the nomination; 8) was viewed by Party delegates as a talented speaker able to attract moderates and newer voters. I voted for Bush in 2000. I thought Gore was a self-centered Moron. W spoke like he was just an average dude who believed in good and freedom. But he systematically made me a liberal over these last eight years. I'm still a fiscal conservative, but on everything else this entitled frat boy with dad issues has foisted upon this country I am in stark opposition. Sometimes when I look back on it, should we have just let the South and Texas secede?

Now don't get carried away here . Regardless of your political affiliation , Obama has about as much in common with Abe Lincoln as you do . He has no plan , it's just hype and newspeak and party line gibberish . the biggest problem he has is that he has no history of crossing party lines to get things done . This is the one attribute that McCain does have! He has done this to the point of being ostracized by the neocon factions of the GOP. I don't understand why some Dems try to push McCain as Bush 2 when he has very little in common with the Prez or his policies ( aside from the war , and as far as Iraq is concerned , we still have bases in Germany and that war ended 63 years ago ) . So maybe some of you should take another look at McCains policies and voting record and stop buying into hype. Obama has no record to look at , he's just a smooth talker who is going to be outmatched by most world leaders in my estimations . maybe some of you should do a little more reading ( and I don't mean just comic books ) and a little less name calling. That's one of the reasons things have gotten so cruddy is this partisan bullshit. You need to have friends who don't agree with you , this is how you gain PERSPECTIVE . If you are only surrounded with people you agree with , eventually it develops into dogma and people get very ugly when getting behind beliefs ( this counts on both sides I'm not picking on just the left or right here ). Tip O' Neil the former Dem Speaker when asked why there is so much partisan politics he replied " The two sides don't drink together anymore ..." that says it all...
