We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies. ” The session will not be televised, since C-Span does not control the cameras inside the House chamber. Rather, those come under the purview of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats, and they're unlikely to do anything to help Republicans. But Republicans felt they got a lot of good press out of Friday's "revolt," so they will be back at it again, and younger GOP lawmakers were clearly energized by the tactic, something not evident among Republicans for most of the 110th Congress.

We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now. Meanwhile, efficiency experts say that keeping tires inflated can improve gas mileage 3%, and regular maintenance can add another 4%. Many drivers already follow their advice, but if everyone did, we could immediately reduce demand several percentage points. In other words: Obama is right.

The real problem with the attacks on his tire-gauge plan is that efforts to improve conservation and efficiency happen to be the best approaches to dealing with the energy crisis — the cheapest, cleanest, quickest and easiest ways to ease our addiction to oil, reduce our pain at the pump and address global warming. It's a pretty simple concept: if our use of fossil fuels is increasing our reliance on Middle Eastern dictators while destroying the planet, maybe we ought to use less.

The RNC is trying to make the tire gauge a symbol of unseriousness, as if only the fatuous believed we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil without doing the bidding of Big Oil. But as much as Obama continues to piss me off with his pandering lately, he did get one thing right. He put some of the burden of the gas crisis on us. Which is putting it kindly. Frankly speaking, Americans are 100% to blame for the situation we're in right now.

Let's start with the 70s and the infamous gas lines. As horrible a president as Jimmy Carter was, he (and other people with half a brain) saw those gas lines, put two and two together and realized we needed to decrease our oil dependence. And what happened? He was laughed out of office. Yes, maybe the sweater and turning down the thermostat was too much, but it was an attempt (as was installing solar panels on the White House which Reagan immediately took down) to shake us up and get us thinking about the future.

As usual, Americans displayed their ignorance and stupidity and called Carter a failure and ignored his plea and continued driving cars that got abysmal gas mileage while making no serious attempt to pursue alternative fuels.

Enter the late 90s and the SUV and high performance car craze. No one held our children hostage unless we bought a Durango or an Escalade. No one told us a puppy would be sacrificed unless we drove a BMW or a Lexus. Nope, that was all us eating up the slick advertising without giving a thought to what would happen if the gas crisis returned.

And now that Americans are hurting, what do we do? We look to someone else to help us. Which I find ironic because conservatives are always railing against government intervention and social programs that help the less fortunate. After all, if you can blame a guy standing on the street begging for change because he refuses to get a job, can't you also blame yourself for the gas situation because you were determined to have a vehicle that got 20 miles to the gallon? Why should the government bail us out for being so blissfully stupid all those years?

This is where conservatives lose all credibility about their anti-handout platform. When it comes to their bottom dollar, suddenly it's imperative that the government steps in to help.

With regards to Obama, as much as I no longer like the man, people who are ridiculing because of his "inflate your tires" remark need to hang themselves. Is it a naive belief that every American will go out tomorrow and perform gas saving maintenance on their car? Sure it is. But it puts the burden on us to try to clean up our own mess. Inflating your tires, performing a tune up and driving slower (this is the big one) will save us enough gas annually that we don't need offshore drilling. Seriously, how f'ing stupid are Americans? They complain about the price of gas but I don't see anyone easing their foot off the gas. Been on a highway lately? All those imbeciles are still going 10-20 miles over the speed limit.

Take some personal responsibility for a change and alter your driving habits. Conservatives are about personal responsibility, right?

Finally, the offshore drilling thing is a sham. Even if we started the process tomorrow, we're not going to see to see that oil hit our reserves for another 7 years. And although that alone might be enough to lower the cost of gas because of speculation, there are other factors at work that are sure to offset it. OPEC is sure to decrease their oil production if we begin to increase ours. Most importantly, it's not like the government is going to be drilling the oil. The oil companies will be in charge of that. That means that every barrel of oil produced is up for bids. Believe it or not, a lot of it will go to countries like China and India and how does that help us?

Offshore drilling is a band-aid and a poorly made one at that. If I believed for one second that the government or oil industry is sincerely pursing means of alternative energy that will produce results in the next decade, I might be willing to say go for it. But we didn't open our eyes 20 years ago when disaster hit, I'm not stupid enough to believe we're going to do it now.

We need real solutions, and if that means we have to hit rock bottom before we see the light, then so be it.

Interesting the former NRA head being used for a parody, but that's another story. Give the McCain camp credit for getting lots of TV exposure without having to pay for it.

Here's the thing: Playing ads like these is risky business. Think about it, if the voter is already planning to cast his vote for you, this ad serves no purpose other than providing a laugh. If the voter is planning to vote for Obama, they are simply offended, emboldened in their cause and probably will have a laugh.

If you're going after the undecided, my guess is you're going after the undecided imbecile, because anyone with any sense sees though these shameless ads that offer no substance, just great video editing. Planting the message "is he ready to lead" has merit, but needs to come out of dealing with the issues, not personalities.

The victim is 26-year-old Carl Sharp. The name of the 16-year-old suspect has not been released.

Sharp returned home around 12:30 a.m. Sunday after purchasing three cheeseburgers at a Rally's restaurant, police said. The suspect apparently became angry because he had requested two burgers, not three, and an argument began.

The men ate the sandwiches and the suspect left. A short time later, police say the teen returned and shot Sharp three times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old fled the scene on a bicycle and was taken into custody Sunday afternoon.

Sharp was a recent college graduate who is survived by his wife and two children.

Hathaway, 25, has been the subject of non-stop tabloid coverage following her recent breakup with scam artist Raffaelo Follieri of Italy. Follieri, 30, was arrested in June for fraud.

Hathaway’s brother tried to recover the pictures from a storage unit, only to find out that the FBI had beaten him to it the day before, according to Gawker.

The photographer is believed to have copies and it is questionable whether Follieri’s friends do as well.

Besides, here's another factoid that no one is talking about. The oil companies already own huge tracts of oil rich land here, in America, and aren't currently drilling on them. And I'm not talking about Alaska but areas where no one would protest drilling.

And you know, we already drank the Kool Aid in 1979. We experienced gas lines and moaned until the martians could hear us and what did we do? Absolutely nothing. As usual, we did not learn from our mistakes. This time won't be any different.

As soon as we allow offshore drilling, we'll largely ignore alternative sources as we did before. In 30-40 years we'll be right back where we are now, still as dependent on foreign oil as ever, and demanding that we open up Alaska.

I'm sorry, but this is one of those scenarios where we have to bite the bullet for our past stupidity and start working on mass transit and high fuel efficiency tomorrow.

It's funny, you say "I guaran-damn-tee you that the oil companies could get oil out of the ground way faster than seven years if they had the green light." The same applies to mass transit. This country was rolling B-52 bombers off the assembly line at a rate of one every hour (I think). You're telling me we couldn't start rolling buses and commuter trains at lightning speed as well? Not only will that get people to drive less but it'll put a lot of folks to work.

Sorry, dude, offshore drilling is another Band Aid solution in a long line of quick fixes. We need real change and we need it tomorrow. This country put a man on the moon. We can do anything. And we can make mass transit system to be proud of in a few years if we start right now.

"To reduce pressure on prices, we need to increase the supply of oil, especially oil produced here at home," Bush said in his weekly radio address. It was the fourth time this week that he has called for Congress to end the drilling restrictions off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

Most energy experts and the government's own research agency at the Energy Department have said drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf, which is now off-limits, would have no impact on current gasoline prices and probably would have none for years.

Congressional Democrats have argued that oil companies already have large areas of federal land and waters where they can drill for oil, especially in Alaska and off its coast.

Bush in his radio remarks also urged Congress to end restrictions on developing shale oil on federal lands in the West and to allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Bush called these actions "vital steps to help reduce pressure on gas prices," although none of the actions would produce any new oil for years.

The 99, a comic-book series based on characters that each personify one of the 99 qualities that the Koran attributes to God, met early resistance in places like Saudi Arabia. Local authorities worried that the series might mock Islam. But after Mutawa guaranteed that he would remain respectful of religion and won backing from a major Islamic bank, the series took off around the Gulf. Initially given away for free with Arabic versions of Marvel comics (the license for which Mutawa owns in the region), The 99 is now a stand-alone success, with some 500,000 copies given away and sold across the region in the past two years.

Now Mutawa wants to spread the word farther. The first of six planned theme parks based on The 99 will open in Kuwait this October, and Mutawa hopes that an animated television show will hit airwaves around the world by late 2010. Working with writers such as Fabian Nicieza, who wrote for the Power Rangers and X-Men comics, and a group of managers including an ex–Rolling Stone publisher and Marvel's former marketing chief, Mutawa believes The 99 can succeed in non-Islamic markets. "Our characters are appealing to kids across the world," he says. "We have been able to sell licenses to India, Bangladesh, France, Spain, the U.K., the United States and Canada."

GOP drones must NOT mention Bush between now and November and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES mention him and McCain in the same breath.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A Jefferson County Jail inmate has quite a tale to tell about how he got there. The nude man claimed to be Jesus Christ and George Bush when sheriff's deputies shot him with a stun gun after he ignored their commands.

A motorist spotted the 30-year-old standing nude in the middle of Alabama 79 early Friday morning and called police.

The man struggled with police and was shot with a Taser four times before they subdued him and put him in handcuffs and leg irons.

He told the deputies he was Jesus Christ and George Bush and could break the handcuffs.

Police say he appeared to be intoxicated. The man was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Leading members of Congress, noting that Washington is paying for reconstruction in Iraq, expressed outrage at the assessment. One called the findings "inexcusable."

"We should not be paying for Iraqi projects while Iraqi oil revenues continue to pile up in the bank, including outrageous profits from $4-a-gallon gas prices in the U.S.," said Sen. Carl Levin, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. "We should require that U.S. taxpayers be reimbursed for the cost of large projects."

Baghdad had a $29 billion budget surplus between 2005 to 2007. With the price of crude roughly doubling in the past year, Iraq's surplus for 2008 is expected to run between $38 billion and $50 billion, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The United States has put about $48 billion toward reconstruction since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, auditors reported. About $23 billion of that was spent on the oil and electricity industries, water systems and security.

Iraq spent $3.9 billion on those sectors from 2005 through April 2008, according to the GAO, the investigative arm of Congress. The ongoing fighting there, a shortage of trained staff and weak controls have made it difficult for the Iraqi government to spend its surplus on needed projects, the agency's report concluded.

Levin, a Michigan Democrat, has been an outspoken critic of the slow progress of reconstruction and an advocate of a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. His criticism Tuesday was echoed by Sen. John Warner, a Virginia Republican who is the former chairman and now a leading member of Levin's committee.

"Despite Iraq earning billions of dollars in oil revenue in the past five years, U.S. taxpayer money has been the overwhelming source of Iraq reconstruction funds," Warner said in a joint statement with Levin. "It is time for the sovereign government of Iraq, using its revenues, expenditures and surpluses, to fully assume the responsibility to provide essential services and improve the quality of life for the Iraqi people."

Well, you could argue that the US should keep paying as much as they do to pay for all the stuff they broke in Iraq such as the manufacturing capacity, the electrical grid, the health system, the economic system, the education system, the legal system, the water and sewerage system not to mention all the civilians killed, maimed and unable to live safely now so on.

Not saying I agree with it but you *can* argue it.
