You should see American Teen. According to Capone, it's the best documentary of the summer. No word on how he felt about MTV True Life: I'm Addicted to Diet Pills.

Before you start hitting me off with acronyms, please spell out the words the acronym is supposed to represent. I eventually figured out that it was, and I'm guessing here because IT DOESN'T SAY ANYWHERE IN THE ARTICLE, the Melbourne International Film Festival. Jesus, people, think.

Not because I hate Melbourne, but because my first thought/first read is MILF, and then I'm always disappointed. Hmmpf.

What's the city at the bottom of Tasmania? I don't have a map of Tassie (ba-dump bump!). Says something that even Melbournians forget it's there.

Actually, everybody knows the North Queenslanders are Australia's "south". Must be because we're down-under & upside down.

Too true half vader...

Like everything else to do with the 'industry' in Australia. Their slogan should be "Everyone's a critic... unless the film is a mediocre Australian effort with D list celebrities in it and funded by the AFC, in which case we give it a pass."
NOt Quite Hollywood, timely reminder of EVERYTHING currently WRO

..with the aussie 'industry', investors with their heads firmly up their asses - mentally crippled by what have become cultural cliches : ie laconic knockabouts, navel-gazing-20-something-bore s or crooks (thus the millionth tedious and dreary cop show ad)...Australia has limped out a couple of decent genre films recently but the truth is there's nowhere vaguely near enough chances being taken, and thats why most mainstream aussies films utterly suck at the moment.

The best thing any Australian filmmaker can do for themselves is move to America or the UK where talent is recognised and appreciated. I speak from experience. But for a few exceptions they can make pretty much exactly the same films they would have made locally. Only the accents need to change. The Australian filmmaking establishment on the other hand continue in their pathetic delusion that Aaustralians want to be force fed the same cliched misrepresentation of themselves, and select what they will fund on the basis of its 'Aaustralian-ness'. I say 'Fuck Australian Stories.' ...Tell 'Good Stories' instead.

Yes you're right. Sydney IS missing that enormous chip on it's shoulder... they gotta get one of those. Hilarious and ironic you post that in a TB about pathetic Oz clichés.

;)

the only people who dont seem to have gotten this message is the financiers and govt run film bodies who live in the past. how many more shitty Australian films must die horrible deaths at the local box office before they show some confidence in the ideas of filmmakers as opposed to govt paid cultural leeches sanctioning unfunny shit and lame ass gangster stories appealing to the lowest common denominator?
