king of internet predators was gold...

anyone remember the Michael Jackson sketch, when the lady dressed as a clown with a michael jackson puppet refused to do an interview with him, and he replied sarcastically, "oh yeah, I understand. you wouldn't want to compromise your dignity."

if that doesn't make you laugh, I can't help you..

Just from these few posts he sounds so dour and humorless, it's no wonder he can't get some laughs from Smigel's routine!

Things MorbidObesity Still Hasn't Addressed
by topaz4206

1) Naming a current insult comedian who isn't "tired" and doesn't insult his superior intellect

2) Explaining why, irrespective of his feelings toward Smigel, he persists in being a troll on wheels. (A "tired" act if I've ever seen one!)

3) Why he's posted 5 times in a thread about a puppet dog... that he, *ahem*, DOESN'T LIKE!

4) What the flash card after Boba Fett was, and why he hasn't crawled back into it

5) Why, as the arbiter of all that is good, he STILL hasn't said anything insightful, illuminating, witty, or amusing, and

6) Is he, in fact, the blue monster.

Although uncomfortably mean (I could have done without the "whore" bit). And it's ironic that Smigel looks like a bigger nerd than most of the people he's making fun of. After having watched this and Borat and Wonder Showzen I have to ask, can comedy get any meaner? Maybe 20 years from now, America will be a desolate wasteland patrolled by roving bands of homicidal insult comics. (They'll be kind of like the Boobs McPooter character from Angry Youth Comics; "Children run! That man's a comedian!")

I think he was dissing the whole fandom thing, not Chuck specifically. (A show I've never seen or heard of previous to watching this clip, actually.) By and large, the actors who do these things at conventions run the gamut from having no desire to be there but accepting that they have to as part of their contracts, to outright loathing the entire experience and cursing their very existence. Thats why anybody who waits in line to get their chotchkis signed is a RAGING dork. They don't like you. Point of fact, they probably hate you. And you stand before them, quivering with adoration and unfulfilled desires as they write their names on your stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of "insult comedy". Take Borat, for example. Yes, the frat guys deserved to be made fun of. But what, exactly, did the dinner party people do to invite ridicule? Sure, they're different, but is that any reason to present them with a bag of poop? Same thing here. I'm sure life is tough enough when you're obese without a plastic dog puppet making fun of you. Especially when the guy behind it is even dorkier than you are. But yes, it's funny. I just don't feel good about myself after laughing at it.

300 Is The Ultimate Butch Gay Fantasy (and Triumph Agrees)!
by LaserPants
Aug 3rd, 2008
07:16:31 PM
300 greased down male models in speedos, hitting each other and grunting in slow-motion for two hours? And then they battle the final enemy -- who is clearly the bottom / femme -- and penetrate him with their swords.

Hero = Top / Butch / Dominant / Pitcher vs. Villain = Bottom / Femme / Submissive / Catcher. 300 is HUGELY popular in the gay community.

I'll take a stab at it. They like: Zack Galifianakis, David Cross, Doug Stanhope, and Brian Posehn. Somtimes, when they're feeling "sassy," they'll go for some Bill Hicks or Mitch Hedberg.

While I too find the above comics to be brilliant, they're like the "indie films" of the comedy community. Triumph is more like the "Harold and Kumar" of the comedy community.

I love both styles... more fun for me!
300 is a gay fantasy, if you're gay.
by 'Cholera's Ghost
Aug 3rd, 2008
10:07:23 PM
And there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. What I'm saying is why does it generate the bashing because there are shirtless men, and movies with attractive women aren't bashed because they might be popular with lesbians? It's because evidently too many males find it too difficult to deal with seeing another man's nipples in hi-def. That's the only explanation for the amount of homophobic flak this movie's received. I submit my findings to the committee.

Because It IS A Gay Fantasy (And Triumph Seems To Agree)
by LaserPants
Aug 4th, 2008
12:10:51 AM
Hey, if I was gay, I'm sure I would've loved it too. But I'm not, so I just thought it was silly, not to mention hilariously ironic how over-the-top homoerotic AND homophobic it was. What I think is even more funny (and telling), is how resistant hardcore fans of the movie are to its raging homoeroticism. Hmm. Interesting. I think they call that repression. Or a "tell."

@Cholera, dude, if 300 was about a group of 300 scantily clad butch female models running about in their panties, hitting each other, and grunting in slow motion for two hours, hells to the hells yeah people would be calling it a lesbian fantasy. For proof of this, see Xena. The big difference being a social one -- people, both gay and straight would accept 300 Women as a lesbian fantasy, and enjoy it as such. BUT, its okay to be a lesbian in our society. Being a gay man, on the other hand, isn't really socially acceptable, which is why films like this are so popular amongst secretly gay men and gay men who are out -- it allows repressed homosexuals to enjoy their repressed homosexuality in a safe context -- the butch gay good guy army (pitchers) going to penetrate the femme gay bad guy army (catchers).

I can recognize the homoeroticism of the film, bask in it, and still walk away liking girls.

Just look at Lord of the Rings -- there's a drinking game for all of the Frodo/Sam homo moments, for goodness's sake! You don't have to rebuke that to enjoy it.

Never said 300 makes people gay, just that it is gay.

LOTR is also pretty gay, at least the Hobbits are. I mean, its pretty clear that Frodo and Sam are a couple. And theres nothing wrong with that, and it didn't make me not like the movie. Besides, I'm not a homophobe.

The main reason I didn't like 300 is because it is a retarded movie. The raging gay subtext just makes it funny and an object of camp appreciation.

Unless you want to. It is an increasingly irksome part of our culture these days to dismiss movies with male relationships or male skin as purely homoerotic (i.e. eliciting homosexual desire as opposed to, say, a close friendship, see LOTR) with such certainty as has been displayed here and then to talk about it as if it were a bad thing.

As regards 300, this reading into it is highly superficial and uninspired even while seemingly obvious. It may show scantily clad men, but a far more obvious interpretation throughout the movie is the all-around celebration of heroicism it sought to invoke, and in doing so, emphasizes not only military skill but physical perfection, the kind desired by men of any orientation projecting themselves into the film. 300 had a lot of themes to choose from, and the fact that there were scantily clad men in it is only the most sensationalist from the perspective of our culture. Not everyone liked the movie to ogle hot sweaty men, and only the most sensitive or homophobic obsess over the "gayness" aspect and then use it to call people closet cases even if it was quite justifiably not what they got out of the movie. It is an unenlightened perspective that although having the most superficial merits, doesn't see with enough of a critical or encompassing eye. I'm not saying everyone here is doing that, but I am compelled to defend those who liked 300 from such doltish antics. Also, wasn't Xena explicity lesbian? Man, it's been a while.

But I'm Not Dismissing 300 Because Of Its Homoeroticism

I'm dismissing it because it was a profoundly stupid movie.

I just find the blatant homoerotic / homophobic subtext (and denial of demonstrated subtext by many allegedly heterosexual fans) it parades across the screen to be amusing. Especially because so many fans of the film were men, and so many of them LOVE it, but stubbornly refuse to admit what they see screaming at them throughout its running time.

Even the heterosexual love scene between the hero guy and his wife seems perfunctory at best whereas the long, lingering, slow motion shots of greased down nearly naked models exerting themselves and grunting in the ecstacy of battle goes on FOREVER. Verily, in truth, the actual Spartans were gay, or at least bisexual, and had gay sex. Look it up! Its all true.
It is true, what they say

The Spartans had quite gay sex. In fact if I recall a lot of warrior cultures such as the Samurai did as well, for a variety of reasons. It's an interesting historical note. Of course, the warrior culture known as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish did not. They just jacked off a lot.

Please don't describe that kind of image again. We already had enough homoeroticism from 300, we don't need you to give us a follow up. :p

If anybody's interested in an alternate view of 300, I'd recommend this article by Matt Feeney at www.slate.com/id/2169061
