Thanks Harry, i was a smidge bit worried about this myself and its good to hear that he's still invovled. the first movie has enough flaws that i'm glad there are more people invovled, but it just wouldn't have been right if they pushed Lisberger out after all he's done at this point.

Even with the story problems of the first film, it would be nothing without the tremendous amounts of creativity and imagination on display due in no small part to Mr. Lisberger. This is a wise move on Disney's part.

"...be the best creative force I can be, which is my job as a producer." Which means you'll turn in a few script notes that the writers will laugh at and discard.

He's taking the high road and not screaming sour grapes, but really, a creative force in the midst of other writers and producers? I think not.

Steven Lisberger...Thank God!!!

But this needs to be an event film...Steven Lisberger, not withstanding, they need to push the limits of 3-D here and make it something revolutionary in respect to film what the original Tron was in terms of pushing computer graphics. If they go 2-D route with this film, who cares??? Add to that, Brad Bird playing the role of director would have all eyes in the industry on this film!!! As well, I'm a Whedonite, Joss Whedon knows how to build a character, deliver clever dialogue, smart character motivations, and create a conflict and story arc therein. He is king of the sucker punch story arc and character arc. Tron is a set-up film, but lacked an emotional core. Tron 2 must be its Empire Strikes Back to work...and that's where someone like Whedon would come in and give us reason to root for the characters, care for them, love them, watch them die at great sacrifice...and watch them become triumpant against all odds and against great evil.

I was never one to adore the tv show Lost because the creators of the show constantly present conflicts and story arcs that they never resolve...and the same was true of Alias...and when they were finally forced to on the latter show, due to the series wrap-up, it was a stunning and lazy minded mess. This constant bait and switch is frustrating and ultimately hurt both shows--hence the reason for my valid concerns regarding Lost writers being brought into this project to write the Tron 2 script.

Joss Whedon is a master at presenting a story arc and resolving it, guns blazing, leaving your mouth, dropped open and eyes agape. That is what the Tron sequel needs, something to give it weight...and make it an event beyond just visual spectacle...and Brad Bird and Joss Whedon can deliver that. We need a cerebral, emotional, adventurous and dark experience to propel this film into franchise territory--yes, somehow they have to figure out how to give us a "Luke I am your Father moment" whatever that may be??? A high concept popcorn film is fine, but in a sea of high concept popcorn films, as is typical of Hollywood release schedules these days, Tron 2 can be easily "Lost", ironically, amid the competition unless there is something more for audiences to rest their hats on besides slick computer graphics and gamer geek talk...but I digress.

As for the folks at Lost, they seem to stay away from story resolutions as it doesn't appear that they have any idea of what direction to go in, other than to constantly mislead the audience and press into believing they have a pre-determined course and destination...that simply doesn't exist and never did. That's why I love Whedon, he'll give you weeks or months of a story arc, resolve it...and create another one...and another one, etc., constantly besting himself and growing the overall story...and myth of his characters. Look how fast he established the Operative in Serenity as the ultimate bad ass since Darth Vader, within seconds of his introduction...or how he took Dr. Horrible from being a fun loving nerd, to a seriously commited threat, within less than a few minutes in the final segment. The change in character was so sudden and ruthless, it was a reverse play on Janet Lee being killed in Psycho. You establish the character, make people care for her, as your lead, give you, the audience, a stake in her life, make you root for her, and then kill her off unexpectedly. Well, with Dr. Horrible, they established our lead, made us laugh with him, made us care about him, and love him even, and then unexpectedly, he was made him hard and cold on a dime...with good reason. That was shocking to see, and it is moments like that, that this new Tron film needs.

THE TRON 2 COMIC CON TRAILER WAS FREAKING AMAZING!! WHENEVER I SHOW IT TO SOMEONE THEY GO CRAZY FOR IT! AND HALF OF THE PEOPLE I'VE SHOWED IT TO NEVER SAW THE FIRST ONE! Matter of fact, most the people I showed it to weren't even born when the original one came out! Dah! I'm old!!!!! So Disney....non gamers and young people who never saw the original Tron are going ape crazy over the TRON 2 trailer!! If Disney is spending money on a "Witch Mountain" sequel.....then they better give Tron 2 the budget it deserves. Dah, the money they'll be making in merchandise alone is mind boggling.

1. It was a proof of concept. Not just for the audience, but for any talent they'd need to shop around for. (like conceptual artists, designers, etc.)

2. It wanted to float the balloon to see what the initial audience reaction was, and how much buzz would develop on the internet.

Mission accomplished. This thing is going to be greenlit, it will probably find its way into theatres summer 2010 or 2011. And it will be huge. Especially if they release it in 3D.

Joss Whedon does know how to give a project dramatic weight. Those guys on Lost??? They never made me want to cry for a character, fall in love with, or in like with them, or even feel too badly for most of them, or happy for them, for that matter...but Joss has the knack for it. Every character that he writes seems to be a new avenue to allow audiences a vicarious entry point into the onscreen proceedings. Establishing that audience involvement creates the necessary emotional bonding that makes the public cheer outloud during the action on screen and while watching the interaction of the characters, prompting them to clap, laugh, feel tension, fear and protectiveness for said characters...and once you have that, the ability to move the audience, you have created a successful drama. From there, it's up to the studio marketing machine to take that and prompt the public at large to invest their time and money to see it--something that good critical reviews and word of mouth can only assist in accomplishing.

The reason girls can like such things these days is because, back in the early 80's, their dads used to spend some of their quality time with them in front of the TV forcing them to watch the likes of Tron and other 80's nerd fests.

Any girl who had that will, like anyone else, find Tron nostaligic and as part of their childhood. The world seems to get nerdier with each generation.

Come on guys and girls, how blind you all are? Number two is clearly made of O from original TRON. i bet the title will be animated at the beginning of the movie: it will show TRON, then split it with half horizontally and the lower part of O will change to this shape to make TR2N, or something similiar. You really didn't noticed that? The CC footage shows 2 first, because only the number for a moment and then the title coming around it makes chills and brings our fucking geekasms :)

in infamy. When I was a wee lad(nowadays we have wii lads) I would see movie ads with tag lines like: In space no one can hear you scream, The starwars saga continues, We are not alone, The 3 villians from Krypton descend to earth to confront the man of steel in a cosmic battle for world supremacy, A world beyond your experience-beyond your imagination. Then one day there was a preview that said- The world inside the computer where man has never been, never before now... Tron is a perfect idea like alien or starwars. It's timeless and iconic and it represents our very best effort to make another world up on the notion that the computer is not just a machine but it's own universe with people with different beliefs living inside. I just like talking about it it's so fucking cool-shit I got arrested over tron once-top that for ultimate geekdom.

I missed seeing the TR2N trailer that has been raved about on this talkback. I scanned the talkback, but no one has given a link to it. Please provide a link so I can check out what has people so excited. I tried youtube, but the only links go to a sick and twisted pathetic attention starved twit named Rick. Help! Thanks!

...was he digitally inserted using footage of him from other movies - i saw it and cant tell - his youthful appearance as clue (the cyclist) was an insert im sure - but his older bearded appearance, did he agree to shoot that or was that taken from something else - too bad that bootleg video is so bad - the scene itself is awesome

IT'S CALLED: TRON 2

Actually it's officially just called "Tron 2". It only reads like "TR2N" in the font, because if you've seen the font...the number "2" also stands in for the letter "o". It's an trick of the eye, it's actually quite a clever illusion and I hope they stick with it in actual marketing of the film. Most thinking people was able to figure it out just by looking at it. Btw....I want to see a big budget sequel to "Megaforce"! haha! "The good guys always win....even in the 80s". Btw again.....how come there weren't any nerd girls back in the 80s dammit! The nerd girls today are cute! I'm guessing part of it has to do with anime(cartoons) and manga(comics). Back then most teenage girls and girls didn't watch cartoons or read comics, now they do...in the form of anime and manga (which are just the japanese words for cartoons and comics). And the girls freaking collect toys today too! (mostly anime related toys though). But, alot of girls I know now actually are heavily into sci-fi,fantasy, etc type films too! The ones I know are big star wars and Lord of the rings fans! The young guys nowadays don't know how lucky they are to have girls that are into all those type of "nerd type" stuff. Dam you 1980s and early 90s!

Because people are getting wise to the sequel game, so they just give them different titles.

That's a great +! Well, let's hope, that the Second Movie get's about as good as the first one did. BTW, my older brother mistook the second Movie to be called TRON 2.0, so i had to lecture him, that TRON2.0 was a PC-Game, that i happened to buy along with the TRON2.0 Bonus-Frisbee(still having both, but it's not really designed to look like in the Movie or the Game: Neon-Yellow, with TRON2.0-Boxart and an ingame Lightcycle on the Paper under Transparent-white Plastic in the middle).

or was it Uri? Whatever happened to her? Anyway, might be good to put Megan Fox in one of those outfits. The original Tron had some great ideas, if you think about it, basically the premise for the Matrix and Terminator films. The MCP even mentions infiltrating the Pentagon and the Kremlin to the shock of even the unethical Dillinger. Clearly this could be taken to another level, along with the laser technology that can break down and store molecules...But that was the reach with Tron, even as far fetched as Artificial Intelligence reaching that level, the fact that a universe existed within the digital world with digital people that looked like their programmers, or 'users' is a little extreme even for science fiction. The Matrix had a higher level of reality, considering people spend countless hours on the internet or on their game systems these days in a virtual world, almost replacing their real lives. The super smart computers needing to keep us around at all was where that premise was weak. Terminator seems to take the most realistic route, again, if such high artificial intelligence is even really possible.

Ok, so we've got Lisberger and Bridges. Now all we need are the original composer back on board, with an appearance by DAVID WARNER!!!! David Warner makes even the worst films more enjoyable and makes the good films even better!

Fuckin' rules. I hate people who dump on that movie. The special effects were ahead of their time, Centauri fuckin onwed, and I felt like most of the acting and pacing was right on target. Of course it helps when you see it as a 9 year old first. I think a sequel would hit a lot of nostalgic notes and might succeed if tried.
