We'll see how it plays together, but the trailer makes it look like they took this thing pretty seriously. Which is the only way to treat it... no camp, no lame modern in-jokes... just a dark, dank, candle-lit period piece with some ugly violence and grim desperation. Benicio was a great choice for wolfie... what I love is that he doesn't leap to mind at the mention of "wolfman" but when you see him in action, it just clicks perfectly. Awesome. Anthony Hopkins hasn't looked like he was trying in a movie for ten years, but what the fuck, he's classy enough to do alright even when he's coasting. Just hope this whole thing doesn't go all Coppola on us, and get dragged down from lofty goals though fke-looking soundstages and lame performances (for God's sake, England is full of actors who actually already have English accents... why not use them to play English characters with English accents?)

Want to make a video disappear? Just post about it on AICN and it will be gone in seconds. Isn't there a way to get a a mirror link up to an alternate site which won't be taken down or is it a case of just not wanting to tick off the studios who buy advertising space?

I have a question. I suspect that most of the people who post movies like this post them on domestic servers. Because of that, when someone from the MPAA or Paramount or whatever fires off a email to them demanding they take it down, they usually do so quickly. However, if I were to post a movie like this on a site hosted in Hong Kong or the Syechelles or Uberrackistan or something and the aforementioned authorities tried to tell them to take it off, couldn't they then be properly be told to go fuck themselves? Why don't people post movies in hard to threaten countries? Like a Danish server or something?

Just curious

xevoid: I would assume that it would be protected, but isn't it true that a lot of these countries have treaties with each other? Which affords the corporations a much longer leagal reach than would otherwise be possible.

Maybe someone should buy an old oil tanker and park it in international waters, so they could host these things pirate-radio style. That would be cool, but probably well past the point of absurdity.

AICN's between a rock and a hard place when it comes to leaks. Harry's got an "in" with a few folks in the biz and I'm sure he doesn't want to piss them off by posting "unauthorized" material or challenging a request to take things down, and two, studios have a gaggle of lawyers ready to send out Cease & Desist notices at the drop of a hat for copyright violation.

Here we have Yet Another Hollywood Recycle(tm) film, and here at AICN, where readers and contributors alike have unanimously panned, jeered, sneered, and harpooned every 'reimagining' that has been put to tape in the past 18 years, and because the Lead Actor in the role is some sort of 'can-do-no-wrong' geek-lord, and because the director is equally 'can-do-no-wrong', this latest example of Hollywoods empty Well Of Ideas(tm) gets not only a full pass on being Yet Another Tired Retread(tm), but gets praises and cheers from the same individuals.

You're all idiots - pure, simple, unsophisticated idiots.

mark my words - the next 'reimagining' talkback will feature the same cast of talkbackers complaining about how lame it is that X movie is being redone when the original still holds up fine.

One thing about this film is that it is not a "Remake" per se... or even a re-imagining. Wolfman, like Frankenstein, Mummy, Dracula, etc... all the Universal Horror Icons... they are and always have been iconic characters who can appear in many different kinds of movies and stories. I look at this "Wolfman" as simply a revitalization of a character who exists independent of any one story in the pop culture. Wolf Man has had so many iterations as a character and a story that bringing the character "back" in this manner is much more palatable to me than, say, remaking "The Day the Earth Stood Still," which is story-oriented, rather than based around an iconic character. That's why no one (well, fewer people) bitch about new James Bond films. Although, of course, if your argument is simply that Hollywood is out of ideas, that may not make you feel better. Still, it's certainly not an invention of contemporary Hollywood.
PS: Joe Johnson in no way qualifies as a "can-do-no-wrong" director. Jurassic Park III? That's the textbook definition of doing wrong.

The Gingersnaps trilogy and Monster Squad both had good looking werewolves in them. I also liked Jack Nicholson's slow transformation in Wolf. Underworld set the genre back a few steps though, with their ugly, blue, hairless Lycans. Haven't searched this trailer out though, since the link is broken here, so I don't have much to say about this Wolfman.

Del Toro as the son of an English nobleman. If they do use the tool that was used in the original WOLF MAN where Lon Chaney Jr. has been in the USA for a long time, then I might buy it. Interesting side note, though... even Carl Siodmak, writer of the original, thought that casting of Chaney was a shitty idea. Why can't they get English actors to play English people? I'm still trying to wash the vomit off the back of the theater seat from when I saw Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves in BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA.
