Last I heard/read, Myers is no longer going to be playing Keith Moon. That's a relief. He's too old and I seriously doubt he's got any drumming skills whatsoever.

Now, if they were to a cast a full-on Mod Jason Schwartzman, they might be onto something. Not only does he look like a young Keith Moon, he's a drummer.

Please make it so..

But the AP movies were fucking funny, even if they were hit and miss - and the best thing about them was Dr Evil, Scott and Mini-Me - so a Dr Evil movie could be pretty damn funny. A lot better than the stream of anus movies that star Will Ferrel every five minutes, anyway.

I always thought Dr. Evil was by far his best Austin Powers character so if done right, it could be a rebound for him. But he has to stop being lazy and actually write something new.

I take a lot of pleasure in seeing his career tanking. Who among us doesn't slow down to see the carnage passing by a car wreck? Except this is a lot less serious since nothing is dying but a career. It's the cinematic equivalent of rubber necking. A Dr. Evil movie? About ten minutes of the entire AP trilogy is actually funny, and none of it involves Dr. Evil. I want to see this go down in flames. I want him to make Shrek 4 so awful that Shrek 5 goes direct to video. I want to see him move to the unsettled wilds of Canada, too embarrassed to return to film.

Myers was okay in that, though there was a bit of an Austin Powers vibe about him.I liked the original AP a lot , and when AP2 came out ..I enjoyed it , but could see that he was just going over the same shit again. But he deserved to make some dough and I gave it a lot of good will. But really felt that was it was enough. He should have stopped whilst he was ahead.I didn;t bother seeing the third one , as it looked like he was pushing his luck, and the doctor evil business , had worn as thin as rice paper.A fourth one is asking for trouble .Myers seems to have backed himself into a corner and is frightened to try something new.

Mike..We have heard the jokes..and they WERE funny...but 10-15 years of the same old gags over and over...enough is enough....take your bow and exit stage left.

The reason you can't really compare Williams to Meyers is that Williams has had some truly great dramatic roles, and isn't afraid to take chances. I can forgive 'RV' because of things like 'Good Will Hunting' old reference I know, but I am pretty sure that the next Williams movie at least might be original.

I can't picture Mike Myers writing a NEW Austin Powers script. I can, however, picture him taking the old scripts, cutting the "best parts" out and pasting them to a peice of paper while crossing out some characters' names replacing them with other, equally ridiculous ones in crayon. "Behold, my new script!" I've hated the Austin Powers movies ever since they introduced the midget (I really hate midget "humor". I can't explain it, but that shit's as funny to me as getting kicked in the nuts during the holocaust.)and there's no way I'll ever watch the turdfest that is the Love Guru. Everybody says his career is over, but as long as the Shrek movies come out, he'll be swimming in a pool of monety like Scrooge McDuck.

We'll get a Shrek 4 and a Wayne's World 3. Because, like any good SNL skit, the material keeps getting funnier the more you pound it into the ground. Maybe they'll film 2 hours of the cast just standing around, beating a dead horse with baseball bats and crowbars and hockey sticks.

AP1 was great, AP2 was a masterpiece, and AP3 was not quite as good as part 1 but still had a lot of laughs in it.
- the whole Mole scene, the stick slowly coming from off-screen to poke the guy's mole, hilarious
- Goldmember himself, though didn't deliver many big laughs, was bizarre and creative.
- the entire sickbay scene had me howling. How can you not like a movie where a midget hiding in a man's trousers spits applejuice out his pee flap during a physical? - And the silhouetted image of the 'baby' and placenta dropping out of Powers, then the 'baby' chews through his umbilical cord and scampers off. I don't think I've ever heard an audience howling that hard during a comedy.
The only problem with AP3 is part 2 set the bar too high.

...over the other two, but I never want to see so much as a picture of Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Mini Me, or any of those fuckers ever again. Mike Myers should just start playing the funny neighbor or the funny in-law or whatever in real people's movies. He could just show up at the right moment to crack everyone up by pretending he's going down an escalator behind the couch or do his Canadian guy lazily pretending to be Scottish bit or whatever. He's like my not-so-funny English uncle who makes the same jokes every time you see him, except without the convincing accent.

Myers has to know that almost no one liked Love Guru. He can't even console himself on the rationalization that critics just didn't "get" it because the general public shunned it as well. Yet he forges on, insisting, against all contrary evidence that his eleven year old-both literally and figuratively-brand of poo poo wee wee humor is secretly hilarious. This guy just can't take a hint.

Does this honestly surprise anyone? A comedian whose momumental ego is fed by his ability to create audience-embracing iconic characters..finds his latest character thunderously rejected by both audiences and critics alike. So he immediately rushes back to his comfort zone...and the characters that already have proven success. You can expect the remainder of Meyer's career to alternate between "Shrek" and "Austin Powers" sequels.

AP was funny, don't be a hater. AP2 was also funny, but doesn't hold up as well. Bought the first one and second one on VHS (Remember that?) Saw Goldmember in the theater and thought it was alright. Haven't seen any of them again in over six years. Or done any DVD purchases. I'd be tempted to buy the first one, and maybe the 2nd, but I don't really care anymore. The "Austin Powers" gags are kind of embarrassing now, but I bet the Dr. Evil gags hold up. In any event, Myers will have to do more than focus on Dr. Evil in a sequel. He'll have to come with NEW bits that aren't just tepid callbacks to bits that already worked. I'm not sure he can pull it off, considering The Love Guru fiasco. Maybe he should back to his roots - improv on stage - for a while and get his funny back.
