...and without the Ramones, there's no point in remaking this, and watching Howard Stern do a Joey Ramone impression is of no interest to anyone who can watch Joey in the original. The Ramones were offered the opportunity to do a sequel, but Johnny nixed the idea and said one was enough, and found the whole thing tedious enough the first time. Joey Ramone's brother has written a biography of Joey titled "I slept with Joey Ramone" and there was some buzz that Howard should play Joey, but I hate that idea. He can't act. Just because he has long hair, a big schnozz, and looks kinda like him, doesn't mean he should play him in his biopic. I'd rather see a real actor play the part, and there are some no-namers that bear a resemblance...their names escape me right now.

It makes no sense that Howard hasn't already produced these films...and any sequels by now? And there is no legitimate reason why his Doomsday project went nowhere, the same with Howard Stern: The High School Years (Now titled...Everybody Hates Chris), and lastly, the new Porky's. It seems to me that Howard is just in the business of accepting money from first look development deals...with absolutely no intention of ever really producing any of these tv shows of movies whatsoever!!!The only thing that you can call this kind of business model is fraud!!!! Development deals are just another Hollywood Pyramid scheme designed to defraud studio investors...while rewarding friends of certain studio executes with millions of dollars in compensation in addition to giving them on the lot production offices and staffs, for doing nothing!!!

It's pretty short, though, because only 6 episodes were ever made, and the show interspersed music videos with the comedy skits. The production company already had most of the scripts written for the first season (13 episodes I believe) and had started recording the voices. Michael Cera was cast as young Howard and the guy who played Howard's dad in PRIVATE PARTS was back reprising his role. However, to get the animation to the level that Stern wanted it, the show would have cost close to a million an episode which Spike TV didn't want to pay, so the whole project shut down.

SON OF THE BEACH ran for three seasons and did well for FX until a regime change came and wanted different programming. I would say that Howard's ratio of projects started to actually making it through development to being produced is about the average for H'Wood.

declined during the past decade; he's no longer the demigod of a decade ago (Private Parts). Personally, I hope he doesn't cast himself in the ROCK/ROLL remake (an awful idea; the charm of the original was its cast of B-movie veterans, e.g. Dick Miller, Mary Woronov, P.J. Soles, Paul Bartel, etc. Absolutely no one can match their panache or enduring cult popularity). A PORKY'S remake seems futile; gross-out/coming-of-age have been pretty belabored the past couple of decades. Maybe they'll cast Horatio Sanz and High Pitch Eric in stellar roles (that's gross-out with hubris, they really deserve one another. C'mon Howard, it's about time for High Pitch's mainstream debut). As for FREAKED, that film was maligned, chastised and loathed by critics; it subsequently drew only a couple of brief theatrical engagements. But now it's appreciated. Go figure.

Sure, there are a couple of acts who actually rap but most of what's considered "hip-hop" in the mainstream are either lame dance songs or pop songs with a little hip-hop influence. Keep seeing that thread pop up: Rock 'n' Roll is no longer relevant. Well, the Ramones did what they did due to the decline of exciting "real rock." Apparently, they "remembered Rock 'n' Roll radio..." In turn, their re-boot of what rock music could (should?) be influenced the big movers and shakers of British "punk rock." If such a modern band could be found then, perhaps, a modernized version of "High School" could very well work for all the same reasons as centering a goofy, spirited movie such as this around a band like the Ramones; at the time of the movie's release they were still largely unknown by the world at large. Unfortunately, there isn't such a band today that embodies the raw, fresh approach to a re-invention of music without coming off as arty, arrogant, trite, pretentious, etc. Possibly, the closest we'd ever be able to come would be the Foo Fighters... but even they are a bit too successful and mainstream to really have a movie like this nail the vibe just right. The Ramones strove hard to make rock relevant. A modernized take on "High School" could very well ressurect such a mentality. It'd be a chore and a half to get it just right, though. Main difference is the influence of networks such as MTV and Clearchannel; 30 years ago, they didn't exist to tell the easily-led populace what to like. And while the internet has absolutely leveled the playing field against the stagnant major labels, its "other side of the sword", so to speak, is a massive proliferation of bands ranging from absolute shite to "why the hell aren't these guys headling a major tour somewhere?" To find a band worthy of filling the Ramones' collective Chuck Taylors is probably the most daunting issue at hand. Am I making sense here? Probably not. Eh, my two cents have been thrown in there... Should this really go forward, then I'm hoping this really gives much work to Alex Winter. I've missed his style for far too long.
