Part of the appeal of Twilight Zone for me is that far more interesting horror/fantasy/sci-fi stories are told in less time than ninety percent of the shit that supposedly fits into those genres. One episode made into a full-length feature? Fuck it, I'll give it a shot, but only if we get Ole Googly Eyes to cameo.

what fucking episode might it be? i'm a little depressed by the dicaprio name attached to it, but still excited... and as a note, there were a heavy handful of episodes that were 48-53 minutes long... keep that in mind

The googly-eyed actor was Jack Elan. The hour-long episodes of TZ have almost never worked, back in the B&W fourth season. Not sure why they think longer ones were. Maybe they'll turn The Obsolete Man into an action adventure Michael Bey thriller.
I Actually Have A Damn Good Idea For A New Series
by Media Messiah
Jul 25th, 2008

I've wanted to do a new Twilght Zone series, and or, movie, for a while now!!! The many Twilight Zone remake series and the movie, all absent of Mr. Rod Serling, have each been an uninspired embarrassing mess. They are not smart, and tarnish the original series, its memory, and the brillance of my greatest writing hero, Rod Serling. So, what is my idea??? I'd be glad to pitch it if given a pitch meeting...it is a very interesting take on the Twilight Zone...one that will make you smile!!!

Thanks again...and have a good and safe flight buddy!!!

Spielberg and Landis came up a tad short but Dante and Millers segments are both really terrific--and the Albert Brooks opening is just classic. I'm not sure an "anthology" movie would work these days since in didn't really work for anyone in 1983 either.

It was Jack Elam, not Elan, just for accuracy. I don't know how well just one episode as a movie would play, especially when you already know the major twists and turns that you can expect based on the original episode. But a feature of "To Serve Man" might be pretty interesting when I think about it.

perhaps some color sprinkled throughout. Open narration by John Hurt! You unlock this door with the key of imagination.Beyond it lies another dimension.A dimension of sound.A dimension of sight.A dimension of mind. You are journeying through a wondrous land of both things and ideas.Your next stop.. The Twilight Zone. Playing my mint twilight pinball right now with custom padded button leather side panels.6 grand if you want it.

Jack "Googly Goggles" Elam it is. Thanks Parallaxmjm

I know a few people with "blue eyes" (one blew east, one blew west), and I always feel like I'm playing eye-tag when I'm speaking with them.

I suppose the only way to pull off a feature-length Twilight Zone consisting of one storyline is to take several episodes and interlace them so that the individual stories wouldn't be able to stand out on their own.

Any thoughts?

here's your ideas

this thing is about another dimension that is intruding on our reality and involving a group of intertwining characters. It must be black and white-it must have robby the robot update attack sequence-it must have aliens that eat people-it must have weird face people that think you are the weird one.A doll attack sequence.A clock that fucks shit up.Now go for it screenplay douches!

by Darth Macchio

03:45:53 PM
...anything he's been in (or worked on) lately has been complete ass. Forgive my ignorance but wasn't he primarily a writer/stand-up-act back in the day? If he is a genius, it is due to his early work with SNL back in its heyday. But lately? Genius? You sure? "Defending your life" actually made me angry and apparently, he's the "genius" behind the movie in almost every respect (wrote, directed, acted, etc). And 'The Muse'? Are you fuckin kidding? You can't possibly be inferring his "genius" from that horrid piece of shit are you? Even his voice was somewhat annoying in Finding Nemo altho that is an excellent and beautifully animated film all around (Rush as the seagull is simply brilliant casting).

Again, echos of past genius do not equate to continual permanent genius unless said past genius is truly untouchably brilliant.

I'd argue that Brook's early SNL work is damn close but not enough to give him a free pass to genius-land forever. You have to up the ante in the genius game and, in my opinion, I've not seen microbe one from Brooks lately. "Finding comedy in the Muslim world?" (or whatever the hell its called) Really? Shit, it might be good but it sounded like a damn 'Ishtar' remake so I just couldn't be bothered. Early SNL genius? Of course; no question. "The Muse", "Defending your life" genius? Well, then I suppose we'll agree to disagree on what "genius" actually means.

Yep, take my advice and stay away from helicopters.

Movies no good
by Gislef_crow
Jul 25th, 2008

Right, Elam. The problem is, you could make a movie out of a TZ episode. Problem is, you'd have to choose from the mediocre to lousy episodes that nobody really remembers or cares about. The best and most interesting ones are the 22 minutes ones where Serling knew how to get in, tell his story, and get out again. Episodes like The Invaders, Time Enough at Last, Eye of the Beholder, Passage for Trumpet, Game for Pool, It's A Good Life, The After Hours, Shadow Play, Death's Head Revisited, The Obsolete Man. And the reason they're memorable is because they're short, and get the job done. Turning a good TZ episode into a full-length movie makes as much sense as turning War & Peace into a 22-minute skit.
Oops my bad.

One exception. Yes, you could make a movie-length version of The Odyssey of Flight 33. Heck, make a miniseries. Then call it "The Langoliers."
If it hasn't been filmed before, it can't be any good.
