This COULD be cool....now...I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the original ROBOCOP, and I agree with Moriarty's stance on the whole remake/reboot thing....BUT...ARNOFSKY could actually pull this one off. Give it an R and make it as violent and satirical as the first and I'm there.

Robocop's appeal was it was hilarious and biting satire about corporate military America. It was at once funny, then turn on a dime and become horrifying. It was a perfect balance, that was served by the writing, and the talent that Verhoeven splattered all over this movie. The original Robocop is timeless, and no other movie can equal it. Darren Aronofsky is humorless and not nearly as intelligent as Verhoeven - that's why there is a high potential of suckage for this film.

I mean this takes place 20 years later, and it's been only a little more than 20 years since Weller first put on the suit, the man is still in fighting shape, his voice still rocks, and techniques have improved enough that it wouldn't be as much of a torture for him to wear a practical Robo suit these days. Plus it's not like he's done much lately anyway, so bring back Weller damn it! Otherwise I just don't care.

M-O-O-N. That spells prime directive.

If they're going to all the trouble of putting this film in the same timeline, they should find some way to bring the original Robocop back into the story. Ideally Weller should play that part and it should have an important role but if they can't get Weller, at least someone who can make it clear it's meant to be Weller's Robocop.

Didn't he write one script, which he claims was butchered into part 2, and then a few remaining elements were somehow smashed into the sci-fi original that was Robocop 3? He spent like 10 years hating all things Hollywood after that.

And the Fountain was one of the most hilariously awful and pretentious movies I have ever seen in my entire life, but somehow I feel like he could do this... IF someone is watching his ass every waking second and making sure he doesn't crawl up his own ass on some maudlin new age bullshit fantasee. Even though Requiem was a histrionic, garish, overwrought mess, that whole last 20 minutes with the Kronos Quartet and the madness and the amuptations and ass-to-asseses was pretty good.

You know he cries himself to sleep every night wishing he was Christopher Nolan though. Every damn night? Every damn night.

When the suits announce that it'll be rated PG-13, blowback will be hard. Thanks for cheapening my childhood. I would imagine that Peter Weller is over Robocop. At least, that's what it sounds like when he does interviews. Though I can see him comeback as Alex Murphy. You gotta imagine that 20 years is a long time for technology advances. Which begs another question, will Robocop be bulky and clanky even after 20 years? Even if that's what people want to see, what kind of justification would have to be made that a lighter tougher Robocop would be in production.

Just kidding :) This guy who's writing it, is he the guy who was brough in to turn the Wolfman script from something cool into something crap? Also, Road To Perdition is a HUGELY overrated film. I've only watched Requiem For Dream and it's one of only two movies that I've ever walked out of. Frank Miller put all his Robocop ideas into a comic which you can now buy as a graphic novel. So we can at least now get to read his take on the character with out the Studio pissing about with it. I'm not holding out any hope for this new Robo movie though. The original will always be a classic. I doubt they can top that.

They'll Millerize it, that is, make it dirty and disgusting.

Frank Miller is a hateful disgusting little creature who wants to soil everything he touches. EVERYTHING is dirty, corrupt, ugly and evil in whatever he writes. When he takes over any property, he immediately does the same to it. Every good person is turned into a snake, every decent human has some hidden agenda, everything is nasty and dirty and evil. The only good characters in his "creations" are slack-jawed, blue-eyed, blonde-haired Aryan boys (they may also have black beards or be or bald but they're always the same basic model, the Hitler's Youth approved sort) Thank God for Irvin Kerschner's touch that saved Robocop 2 from being a Miller movie (that is, having all the look, feel and enjoyment of a used condom in a filthy alley after a storm) There is a crowd of really unpleasant and sad people who love Miller's fascism and filth and who would love nothing better than to see him adapt Disney's Toons (with Donald cutting Mickey's throat, then raping My Little Pony and cutting every Teletubby's belly open) and make the kids cry and run away in terror. Hey, it's just like Miller's ideas. Maybe he's already tried submitting something like that to Disney? His fanatics would definitely love it. Keep Miller's ideas away from existing franchises. Let him create his own filthy worlds in which Aryan angels slaughter every dirty Untermensch they see.
What will he look like?

Have we heard if they're changing his design? Why the move to LA? Are we getting a surf-ready Robo?

Sorry, just... No. Bring back Peter Weller or come up with some VERY inspired choice. Don't just go for the bankable star. Make this actually good.

in the dark knight does look a little goofy to me in those 2 scenes he has in it. there's just something weird about it. i think it looks a little different, or he's in bright lighting or something. i don't know. the new suit looks great, though.

...sure there are some purely kick ass scenes in the movie and I get the whole 'satirical' thing but outside of the scenes where Robo goes and kicks everyone's ass and of course any scene with Red (Kurtwood Smith) is sheer ass kickery as well...the movie is kinda grating. I hate Ronnie Cox as a bad guy...he's so far over the top that its distracting (Total Recall anyone?). I get that this isn't a "conventional" movie and thus everything is somewhat 'caricatured' and exaggerated but it just didn't click with me like it obviously has with most on these TB's.

... they do something along the lines of Neumier/Miner's original idea for Robocop 2, and just from that one sentence description it sounds like they are. Supposedly Robocop 2 was supposed to start out with Robo being blown to scrap, then stashed somewhere for decades until he's reactivated in a time where OCP and its subsidiaries pretty much own the US.

Paul Verhoeven is right up there with other Director legends like James Cameron. Nobody can Direct action better than Verhoeven. But, I am still being optimistic... I don't know about this remake since I just saw Robocop the other day and besides the clothes it is not that dated. If they remake Robocop than he just can't be a guy walking around in a tin suite like Frankenstein anymore. He better be upgraded otherwise people will be saying, "Robocop can't do shit. I am going to go rent Iron-Man." Also, I saw the Fountain and that movie was a boring as shit. I am not hard to please. But, that movie lacked cool action and cool fantasy. It had some dumb Fellini bullshit.
