And now im literally turned off by it,its nothing more then a Hollywood tool and isn't even remotly about comics anymore. Its about movies.I remember when every pannel was about comics and now theres very few pannels and even those are releated to some movie coming out and not the book. Even the creators are more intrested in getting there book exposed so it can be turned into a movie. Now I know this is a movie site and I love movies, but they need to change the name and start over with a comics only convention, where its nothing but comics and comic creators talking about comics.
Will THE GOON be live action or animated?
by Finding Forrestal
Jul 24th, 2008
02:37:27 AM
I hope Fincher goes the animation route. I think he could do some pretty mind blowing things with this particular story if he wasn't hindered by the prohibitive realities of live action filmmaking. Don't get me wrong, he's already a brilliant live action director, but if his talent was unleashed on an animated feature there's no telling what he'd achieve.

I would knock the bottom out of that chick in the blue (bottom middle). Yummy!

The first photo is by far the best though. All the imagination on display at the Con pales in comparison to the fascinatingly fucked up shit parading around in the real world. Fuck Denise Richards! That nutty old crippled broad in the wheelchair should have her own reality show. I'd pay to hear the stimulating conversations between her and the dummy.

NOTE: For the record, I would gladly fuck Denise Richards. Call me, Denise...

I live in LA and know a lot of people who attend and so far i havent heard a single worthwhile reason to go. Waiting in massive lines all day long?? Yeah no thanks. The panels sound like nothing but a press conference full of lame questions and bored actors and directors you can't get near. i really don't see the point.

Makes me long a whole lot less for being there. That and the 2 grand one needs to drop on airfare and hotel for 4 days.

I went to the preview night in 2006. It was about as busy as Sunday 2005 - a lot of people eager to see as much as possible in a limited amount of time; a good, tolerable, crowd. But every other day on the floor in 2006 was terrible. You didn't walk around so much as propel yourself along by bouncing off other people. Getting anywhere was like navigating an obstacle course, where the obstacles are (slowly) moving, in any given, often unpredictable, direction. Anytime any kind of gap opened, it was almost imediatley filled again by the swell of bodies.

I understand there were about 125,000 people there in 2006, a new record. But in 2007 they broke that record and sold out on Saturday. How many people qualifies as a "sell out"? 128,000? 130,000? And it looks like this year is sold out as well. That's a whole lot of people! 2005 was my first time there. I thought the crowds were big but not too big. 2006 was a bit too much. I could not stand having to deal with the "sell out" crowds that Comic Con now attracts. Just too many people.

My thoughts exactly. That's way I'm here at work this year and not dipping into my vacation time. After 6yrs of progressively larger and larger crowds, I don't think I'm missing anything.
Comic Con's pros and um.. cons
by waggy
Jul 24th, 2008

It absolutely is a marketing event for Hollywood at this point, and comics are pretty much an afterthought, but you know what? That's not such a terrible thing. The fact that Hollywood is putting this much money and manpower into a festival that caters entirely to geeks and fans of genre entertainment is a truly remarkable thing. I mean think about the fact that we are living i a day and age where the most important annual events in the film industry are the Oscars, Cannes, Sundance, and Comic Con. There are countless comic book conventions in this country, so is it really that terrible that Hollywood has co-opted one of them? And don't think for a minute that this level of exposure doesn't drive new fans to the source material. I can't tell you how many copies of Watchmen my store has sold since the trailer debuted last week.
Ratphink, I'm not quite where you are

The crowds would be too much for me to truly enjoy myself but I'm sorry not to be going as I know I'm missing some really cool stuff.

In the two years I attended I got to sit and listen to (off the top of my head) Ray Harryhausen, Bruce Campbell, Stan Lee, Frank Miller, Roger Corman, John Romita Sr & Jr, Walter Koenig, JMS, David Cronenberg talk about their experiences in their respective industries. Plus stuff like "the world's worst cartoons", the short film festival, and the "comic con exclusive" previews that you won't see anywhere else.

GOd Damn, I'm pissed I didn't make it there this year!
