I love Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, but I've disliked EVERY SINGLE film adaptation I've ever seen. Nobody ever, ever, ever gets it right. It just becomes a way to parade big name celebrities around.

Burton will fuck this up with his trademarked, painfully-forced weirdness. I was a goth-punk in the 80s, and he had some level of cool back then, but now he just does weird for the sake of being weird, and it ends up more often like Planet of the Apes or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ("weirder" versions of older movies) rather than like Sweeny Todd (A true improvement upon the stage version in some respects, thanks to Burton toning down his "weird-for-weirdness'-sake" aesthetic.)

Burton misses a lot more than he hits, and it's been that way since Batman. Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, and PARTS of Sleepy Hollow were awesome. The rest of his films have been fundamentally flawed.

Also, as much as I love Elfman, Burton needs to dump him for future movies. This marriage made in hell is what kills Burton's work half the time. Ed Wood was great because we didn't have Elfman's tiresome scores punctuating everything the characters did with loud brass blurts or childrens' choirs singing "lalalala" --- The guy rewrites the Beetlejuice score for everything he does, with the exception of Sweeny Todd, where his work was quite good.

It will redefine your definition of 'ineptly run'.

However, it's the clientele that really make the experience. Endless hordes of hooded, fourteen-year-old scum who like nothing better than to sit in the dark talking loudly to each other on their mobile phones. Why do some people want to spend money to talk through a film and why can't it be legal for me to stab them?

Have you seen the original Family Dog (Amazing Stories short not the shite series)? Burton designed the characters, Brad Bird directed it, and getting to the point, Elfman did the music. I think you'll find the Beetlejuice score in there, too. A couple of years before the film.

Had he not pulled off the musical aspects of Sweeney Todd and Charlie so well (odd, but well), I'd be bothered by this having songs in it. An Elfman score would be well-suited, but he needs to step it up too, let this be epic.

Yes, by all means, keep casting Helena, she's gorgeous and talented. She would make a perfect queen. Someone suggested Rickman for the Mad Hatter, and I can picture him in the role physically, but could he pull off the craziness of the character that Depp could easily lend. Looks like a good choice for Alice.

I just hope Burton decides to really go at it once and for all. I don't feel he's over-rated, I feel he has yet to hit his whimsical peak. Don't disappoint us Tim, let that imagination fly.
