I know Joss is being the good soldier and pretending it's all good, but he said he wasn't going to fall in love with the characters again and try to be more network friendly and it seems he hasn't exactly done that. Assuming Dollhouse is as good as Firefly, we can expect a bunch of great episodes followed by a big shafting from Fox when they cancel it.

by Mel Gibsteinberg
Jul 22nd, 2008
04:49:04 PM
She's a bit shy when it comes to actually showing off the ta-ta's, so even though she may express "porn-face" it's all a big tease.

As for Whedon, this project definitely looks like another venue for him to do some cool stuff. The tagline "you can erase a memory, but can you erase a soul" is pure Whedon. Like the concept, will be curious what Fox will do if the show doesn't play huge right away. All it needs is just some mediocre numbers, something that Bones does, they don't seem to have a problem keeping that show around, and they don't do anything on that show.

She'd just done bring it on and went on to do jay and silent bob strike back, and originally she was written as a lesbian bad girl to go with ali larter, but she asked that it be written out because she didn't want to push it with her mormon grandma. As for Alyssa Milano, I'm kind of not into her since she got all old and crusty. I currently have a thing for rachel bilson - GOD I hope a home movie gets leaked soon.

Whedon's penchant for hot chicks with big foreheads? It must be part of the casting contract that he forces on his talent scouts.

Seriously it's true:

Sarah Michelle - big ole forehead

Summer Glau - big forehead

Eliza Dushku - big honkin dickfore

It's like his own insecurities of having his own massive slab of head above his eyes, has forced him to prove to the world that you can still be beautiful with a big damn forehead.

I was excited about this when I heard how dark and philosophical the original pilot was. But doing another pilot cannot help but undermine the (now) second episode. Either there will be one hell of a lot of exposition in the second episode (due to it being the original pilot) or it will be full of padding (due to scenes being reshot to take the place of exposition). Unless Fox backtrack on its commitment to show Dollhouse with fewer adverts and replace exposition with ads.

So the fact that she plays a sexpot, cat burgling, flatulent, stripping, cussing, hoe-bag doesn't offend old Mormon granny. But if she were to play a lesbian, well...

Plus I can't see any Mormon ever seeing Jay and Silent Bob anyway, that flick was dirty as sin, soooo crude. That Mormon grandma would have seized up right there on the spot and cried out for her lord and savior Joseph Smith. No way she is seeing that movie anyway, so what the hell does Dushku care?

What a hypocrite.

I'm actually glad they're shooting a new first episode because, as much as I dig Whedon, I found myself underwhelmed by the trailer. Just didn't grab me, but hopefully it'll work as a second episode.

The first episode needs more zing, more action, and more character moments than what I saw in the trailer. So I'm glad a new beginning will ensue.

I wish Joss good luck with it.

I want a new pic called "Creamed Corn Party" and instead of old nasty farts, its Dushku, Geller, and Cuthbert all gobbling up the "creamed corn" from each other's ne-ne's.

Gawd, Cuthbert, now there's another chic with nothing to offer but that bland porn face expression. One day she will realize she has no true acting chops what so ever, just a nice rack and goofy face, and her rack is slowly sliding south. It will be at that point that either Playboy will come knocking, or some straight to video National Lampoon nonsense asking her to jiggle her jugs for cash. Eitherway she is gonna break and give us the glory shot, I feel it.

Whedon had gotten cliche

"Winning at Great Cost." Nobody looses, nobody wins outright. Even worse the cost is always the death of a loved one that starts a downward spiral for the hero so they can win but be "forever changed." (SPOILERS) How cool would it have been if Dr. Horrible became truly evil and got the girl. No, he had to be "forever changed by the death of a loved one" like... Willow (Tara), Buffy (Angel, herself, Spike), Xander (Anya), Angel (Cordy), Wesley (Fred), the Serenity (Wash). I hope he has a new trick up his sleeves because I love his writing.

she was good as a supporting character on Buffy, but she's just too cold and standoffish to be the central figure of a show. Yes, she's very hot, but the one character she plays, the tough girl but she's not really tough it's just an act to hide how vulnerable she is, while great as a supporting character, sucks as a main character in the long run.

Ok, how about this. I like the way he handles dialogue. He plots arcs out well and their emotional peaks are handled in a realistic manner (for their genre's universe). However he falls back on the "oh let's kill a character that means a lot to the protagonist" far far too often to get where he needs to go with both the characters and the audience. Like almost all the time. There are other ways to get there. I'm now tired of this cliche, but I like his writing style enough to hope that he can come up with another trick.

I had to do the same thing on a project. When it was pitched, the concept was STRONG. Then we got to the execution, and all the little things that were in the proposal didn't quite make it to the first draft.

Layman's terms: they didn't like it. They still loved the CONCEPT, but it needed a better first exposure to an unsuspecting world.

So we backed the whole thing up, and made a "prequel" that wound up being the first part, and the first part became the second part, and that was that.

Good on ya, Joss. The people that don't like you hate you. The people that like you love you. That's a Howard Stern demographic if I ever saw one. Work the ep 'til it works.

You forgot about Buffy (her mom), Angel (Doyle) (remember Doyle?), Collosus (Shadowcat), and Melaka Fray (Her brother, Loo). So, it's not like Whedon uses the same trick every time. not at all like that.

how does that work for a tv show? if the creator has a style that the network didn't expect, it's not a "gap", it's a potential for "we're stuck with 100 episodes we don't like" (and I don't think they'll let this go for 100 episodes). it's not like he'll just change styles (then he wouldn't be a creator at all). I don't understand why fox keeps buying from whedon, and why he keeps selling to them (well, I guess if you're stuck making youtube videos, you'll sell to anyone)

I disagree. Let's look at the deaths cited:

Willow (Tara) In the first of several, I believe the actress, in this case Amber Benson, was leaving regardless.

Buffy (Angel, herself, Spike) All resurrected almost immediately (if a season break counts as immediately)

Xander (Anya) Actress leaving

Angel (Cordy) Actress leaving

Wesley (Fred) no excuse here

the Serenity (Wash)no excuse here

Buffy (her mom) Actress leaving show

Angel (Doyle) Addict

Collossus (Shadowcat) She isn't dead yet as far as I can tell

and Melaka Fray (Her brother, Loo) Did not read

You also forgot Gunn's sister and Book.

most of his stuff is decent. It's his idiot Browncoat/Whedonite fans that annoy the shit out of me. But I hate Harry HeadShill too, so what do I know?

Well she died in the series finale, so yeah, she was leaving. As was everyone else.

Yeah. This'll be over quickly. I love Whedon's work, but fuck, man. Learn. Fox is shit.
How many times does Joss need to get assraped by Fox?

Seriously. After the clusterfuck that was Firefly and his declaration to never return to Fox, here he is. WTF?
