Saw the nearly-finished cut that leaked on to the net last month and hated it.

Both my girlfriend and I are big horror / vampire fans. We also loved Six Feet Under, American Beauty is one of my favorite movies and I can't wait for Towelhead...
...So it should go without saying just how badly I wanted to like this show.

Unfortunately, it was a mess. The execution is sloppy. The tone of the show is way off and the camp level rendered the show nearly unwatchable.

I'll be checking out the show again in September when it officially debuts- but I have the lowest of expectations.

It's okay. It's a teen soap opera for the Marilyn Manson set. I don't hate it, but it's like Dawsons Creek mixed with mythology.

but I do think some Buffy/Angel fans can be a bit too obsessive! I personally think there are better shows out there. Like Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1 , Stargate Atlantis, and Star Trek! Whedon is awesome though....Firefly is my favorite Whedon show and it sucks it got canceled so fast....it's one of the strongest first seasons of any show I've seen! And Dr. Horrible was fucking brilliant!!! But nothing compares to The Dark Knight!!!! I can't stop thinking about it!! Get your ass to the theater if you haven't seen it!!!

but nudity of a vampire riding a bird. it was just a very odd show. strange. down in the bayou i guess, with people with wierd accents. it was just a very strange pilot that kept me watching, which i guess is a good thing.

30 minutes into the pilot, and I am bored. The US pilot of Life on Mars went faster.

As previous posters said:

Vampires are the new gay

It is Alien Nation with vampires

Originally these comments made no sense but after watching 30 minutes they make all the sense in the world.

I think I'll delete this and watch City Homicide instead.

I have to agree with Snootch on The Dresden Files. Wish a real cable station had gotten hold of that property instead of SciFi -- the books are great fun, and would lend themselves well to a professionally done series.

As far as True Blood... I like the series it is based on (Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire books), but I never thought it would make very good tv. Honestly, an uneducated, kinda dumb telepathic waitress mixing with vampires is a lot more entertaining when you don't have to actually hear her talk.

That said, they could have still done a lot more with the pilot. Terrible script, very wooden acting by everyone involved, absurd soundtrack... it didn't seem to know if it wanted to be a drama, a comedy, or a 70s camp-fest. In the end, it was none of the above.
Oh and...

No nude Paquin, (though she does get frisky later in the book). Instead, you get to see her character's brother have sex with a nude female fang-banger, while a video of that same woman having sex with a vamp plays in the background.

It's not as interesting as it sounds.

Well, that's my first initial impression. This leaked pilot also has a "missing scene" (or whatever). I think we have to withhold judgment until we watch a final edit of the pilot. This series concept still has potential, though. Aside from this, what's up with the family kitchen? -- it looks exactly like the same kitchen set of the Fisher family in Six Feet Under.

Maybe with sweetening they can add some drama and tension to the whole thing, but I can't see that transforming it to the point of being entertaining. It had it's weird, shocking moments. For instance the freaky vampire milf sex scene. But beyond that it just felt half asleep most of the time. Like Robert Mitchum after a quaalude binge. Hope they can improve on it.

and although the rumor of a remake is terrible, I think the story could be revamped (pardon the pun), and made into a continuing series.

The shocking bright red of the poster is a little reminescent of the rose on the American Beauty poster. I haven't seen anything but I'm willing to give Alan Ball a chance.

I'm really looking forward to it. Six Feet Under was the best show on television. Towelhead is getting rave reviews. If Alan Ball's involved, I gotta believe it'll be great. As far as the pilot goes, I've deliberately not seen it, because I want to see the finished product, not a rough draft (I'm sure they're still tweaking the pilot). Until I got my hands on Vol 8 (I don't read the individual episodes, just the TPBs). I LOVED The Walking Dead up till now, and have very anxiously been awaiting Vol 8. Now it's out, and after reading it, I think I'm done with the series. That was like a big "fuck you!" to the readers.

The only reason I might keep reading is out of curiosity. Now that it's just the two of them, it could get back to what I really enjoyed about the book...the zombie/survival drama. Once it started being the Prison People Vs Psycho Guy And His Town, it kinda took me out of it. Personal character drama suddenly became Mad Max. We'll see I guess.

Sorry for the threadjack. And yeah HBO, where's our Preacher series?

Sorry but i'm just a huge fan of that show. If the writters stay in the realm of horror, and keep away from love intrests and shit, that show could really do well. On a different note, Preacher and Punisher should both be series on pay cable, just showtime instead of HBO. Besides Big Love,HBO has let me down alot.

terrible. I have read the books, they were okay. I had faith that Ball would be able to separate the wheat from the chaff, but apparently all he was interested in was the chaff. Very disappointing. Jaw dropping bad at points. Bill the vampire was pitch perfect as was Sam the manager at the bar where Sookie works. The female characters were terrible. Shit, I am really remembering why I hated this.
A woman has sex with a vamp and tapes it. Then she watches it and the vamp is there like on the tape acting all weird...there are rules people. 2. Sookie's power comes and goes when it is convenient. And she can't read Sam's mind in the book. They don't really give that impression here.
Dreck.

From what I hear, the pilot has been reshot. There is a lot of potential here. I've read all of the books, and Sookie can read Sam's mind, but it's more difficult (and there is a reason for that). She usually chooses to block his thoughts as much as possible since he's her boss.
