that it's too bad comic fans these days are ignorant of artists like Sienkewicz, McKean and Williams, as fan faves like Ash Wood and Templesmith and all (while really good) are still in the shadow of these guys. No offence to the new guard, but these guys are absolute giants and it makes me a bit cranky that hardly anyone knows them at the moment. Oh and I meant Big Numbers, in case that was unclear. Too bad it fell over. Who knows how great Alan Moore and Bill could've been on that?!

Nolan will recast Joker IF he does a third film, Ledger has made that perfomance Iconic. He would have to be as stupid as Sam Hamm to kill the Joker off again. This movie deserves at least 5-6 Oscars nods, for sure. It's superb.

Hopefully Sienkiewicz was duly compensated, but keep in mind a little fact: often licensing art (like this) originates NOT out of the movie company itself (in this case Warner Bros), but is instead actually commissioned and booked through the publisher (in this case DC Comics), which allows a lower rate to be paid. In other words, he may...or may not...have been paid a lot of "Hollywood money" for his services by the studio, BUT he might have also been paid a more modest fee through DC Licensing which in fact does contract out work for movie promotional purposes or toy packaging and food tie-ins and whatnot. So it could have gone either way in terms of how much he pocketed off the job. Not to mentio, was he paid a higher fee for a contracted buy-out, and thus he made more upfront, but now he is owed absolutely no further money from royalties as the art gets used in all sorts of ways...

That was just plain intense!!! One of the best scenes I have seen in awhile! It was so absolutely CHILLING the way that Bats kept hitting him and kept making him laugh more. I always get a cold chill down the center of my spine when he would say "You have nothing you can threaten me with...nothing you can do to me for all your strength!" That summed up this Joker...he didn't care if he lived or died, if anyone else lived or died...he didn't really even care if his plans succeeded or not b/c he knew he'd get his chance some other time...he just...does stuff...like he says. That is what is so frightening about this JOker....you really can't do anything to hurt him and you cant frustrate his plans b/c even though he takes others' plans and turns them on themselves he really doesnt have a plan. He just is...

Wow, you guys!!! Keep going. That's some funny stuff right there. Anyway, love this art, and I'm betting they commisioned him to do the Joker art after everybody fucking jizzed when they saw the Joker for the first time way back in December. I too loved everything about this movie, but, yeah, that interogation scene was tops, for all the reasons. But, it was his conversation with that detective that really got me. Remember, "It's all part of the plan." And that was what was chilling about it. He kinda knew every step of the way, OR, he just was really good at imporvising. Because with chaos, and anarchy, there's no wrong answer!!!! It's brilliant!!!

I was at Comic Con a coupla years ago and could've bought an original Big Numbers page which was really nice, & wasn't all that expensive in the scheme of things, but didn't in case things got tight moneywise. Ah regrets... I love his version of The Shadow too. And his Moby Dick. And I read something somewhere about he and Neal Adams working TOGETHER on some film project or something a few years back. Does anyone know about that and can fill me in?

I agree! Bill's stuff on New Mutants back in the day is, hands down, my favourite of his work. Was wonderful seeing some real 'artistic' renderings of mainstream Marvel heroes and not just your typical comic book art. It was cutting edge for sure! And with regards to The Dark Knight? Wow. Just wow. I agree with the idea of Dent NOT being dead. For all intensive purposes 'Harvey Dent' is dead... but Two-Face? A small groan or something from him lying there could have put all the fan-boy speculation to rest. Did anyone else catch Alfred's remark near the beginning of the film when Bruce was saying he needed a new suit? Protection against dogs? And Alfred says that Fox xould make him one to protect him against dogs... and certainly 'CATS'! Meow! Bring on Selina Kyle!

yes Jack Colby, assuming there will be many more. Money definitely dictates much of that and TDK is breaking records left and right. And I think TDK has really boosted Batman's iconography once again. Regarding Bat-villians, I always like to believe that Batman and his rogues gallery will be in a neverending conflict; like what the Joker said when he's hanging upside down, him and Batman will be each other's foil perpetually. And seemingly killing off Dent/Two-Face sort of reminded me of what was done with Venom. But in TDK the "death" works as part of the story (all of the deaths do) and doesn't in the least bit fail like the turd Spiderman 3 did story-wise. It's another sign of TDK's clever script that they have us speculating over Two-Face's fate. They may not even bring back the Joker for a while (if he's in the next movie just make it a small role in Arkham), but I'm happy to know he's going to linger in the Bat-film-universe.

Hate to be the downer guys but it is just stylized re-renderings of already created art from the style guide. I have the style guide for the film on the shelf next to me. All he has done is traced the pre-rendered poses and art in his style. The guy is a great artist but not for this work.

As a kid I used to buy the odd Ritchie Rich or Archie comics with an occasional foray into the big boy stuff like Fantastic Four. Then I saw the New Mutants story "Slumber Party" on the shelf with art by Bill S. and that was that. I loved the art with all the messy scratchiness and severe globs of ink. Nobody does Warlock better imho. I owe him a lot for getting me hooked on proper comics...or he owes me depending on how you look at it.

As much as i would love to have the joker in the next one, it can't be done. Sorry, it cant Ledger's joker will stand supreme, and another joker would be insulting. but hey! there are a million villians that are realistic enough to be explored by Nolan's team of amazingness. The Riddler has been mentioned several times, and most people assume that Anthony Micheal Hall (Who has a very minor role in TDK, and the GCN news anchor Mike Engle) would be the Riddler. I thknk this is alluded to when the joker makes Engel read off a riddle to gotham about "the game". They could allude to the joker, or show the back of some dude dressed like ledger's Joker with no dialogue. also, we dont really know for sure if two-face is dead. or maroni for that matter. i heard Penguin and catwoman are allued to, but i dont think that Nolan should go for some of the more campy-esque characters. I mean, if he does that, just bring back Ahnold for Mr. Freeze and have some monster-looking guy be killer-croc. Nolan's Riddler could be really good. but nolan is going to have to make the movie of all-time to beat TDK now that the bar is set so much higher. it almost makes me think that he shouldn't make another one. another "return of the Jedi" another "Godfather III" but, i want my perfect trilogy. then, he can stop. end it on a high note. I Believe in Chris Nolan. Down with the haters!

I remember alot of his stuff from the late 80's and early 90's it had such a liveley hyperactive quality about it. Did he do Arkham Asylum??? I have it on a shelf somewhere. His covers were always quite stunning. Another example of amazing lively comic art and why manga and all the clone manga clones suck fucking brown anus!!!

Even if it was at times too derivative of Adams. Then again, quite a few tried to emulate the Great Neal at one time or another - but Bill kinda went too far. He then veered off into the scribbly direction, which was annoying, and it turned me off of his work for quite a while. These drawings are quite good with the Joker being excellent.
