I've been following his MUMMY 3 making-of blog and, to my surprise, he comes off a lot better than expected. He's made some real stinkers but he seems intelligent and is genuinely in love with films and filmmaking. I'm hoping he knocks it out of the park with this one.

about the MUMMY films is the jokey, almost postmodern vibe of these films which doesn't work for me against the 1930s backdrop. Some of the dialogue lines are just clunkers when applied to this setting. I actually preferred THE MUMMY RETURNS to the first, and the action sequences are really well-shot, it's just this modern attitude that permeates the first two films that keeps them from being timeless to me. It's difficult not to compare them to RAIDERS, which is the obvious inspiration for these movies, and how the dialogue was meaningful and not just being clever for the sake of clever.

I'll say that this movie is looking better the more imagery I see from it. I'll likely see it.

Let's not forget DRAGONHEART, y'all. Actually, yes, let's do just that. Cohen's a competent director of forgettable entertainments, like Stephen Sommers and Chuck Russell. Ill end up seeing this, because I likes me some Mummy movies, and there's rooom this summer for the flick after the damp squib of IJ.

I enjoyed Indy 4 although I freely admit it didn't have the chemistry moments between Indy and Marion that I expected. I felt like she wasn't given anything in the script. I also didn't care too much for Shia as the sidekick, but I liked the general idea of the plot, and the one moment I absolutely loved was the look on Harrison Ford's face when he sees Marion for the first time. That was worth the price of admission to me. I'm looking forward to the Mummy movie now more than ever and will see it in the theaters because I trust Cohen's Mummy movies and enjoy the spectacle. I'm worried about Bello because Weisz is simply so awesome. If I were Cohen I would've waited until Weisz was free but the whole thing was probably beyond his control. And Bello's pretty good so we'll see.

Has made a lot of movies I really enjoy, so I am confident this new Mummy movie will be good. Stealth was merely ok, it was "Short Circuit" without the comedy. Dragon:The Bruse Lee Story was very good, and I liked Dragonheart a lot as well, I am an old D & D geek, so it was cool seeing a Dragon portrayed in a D & D'ish type manner. I will see this when it comes out.

Not one person I've spoken to has said KOTC is a great movie. They either hate it or say it was "OK I guess". People (like me) only saw KOTC because of the previous movies. Have you looked up the grosses for the Star Wars prequels? How many people do you know would call them good movies? Are you saying that KOTC deserves its box-office gross from its own merit?

So ..will the rather surprising but understandable "it won't be as bad as the last one (and the one before and the one before the one before)"-buzz prove true? This appears to become a summer of actually decent till great blockbusters. I guess I'm still too shocked about the weird concept and perception of what Indiana Jones should do/be exposed to in a film baring his very name, the Berg, Lucas and Ford have developed over the years that I can't decide wether the film was decent or just really bad.
Interesting that Armstrong hadn't even been ASKED to work on KOTCS. (Well, at least he didn't have to act as Spielberg's literal 'partner in crime' in doing those mostly uninspired action set pieces.) But didn't he work on WOTW? Did Spielberg realize that he's no good anymore during that shoot? Or were they just too enchanted with Dan Bradley?

I think the reponse to Indy 4 was tepid. A lot of the money Indy 4 was from people who were reluctant to see it because of bad word of mouth, but had to anyway out of love for the character. This movie had the potential to make tons more money than it did, I think they squandered it away with scenes like the nuclear fridge incident, which insults the audience. And honestly, the plot with the aliens, just terrible. They should have done something else. No suggestions there though, they are supposedly the great storytellers. This particular story sucked.

I had to sit out part two because I just can't take another fucking Stephen Sommers movie. He's not as crazy as Michael Bay but he has the same part of his brain missing where he does not know that pacing or rhythm even exist. He literally does not know what they are. I heard the insurance companies require him to wear special earplugs on set because if he heard the sound of a metronome or ticking watch he would explode.

Rob Cohen also makes alot of crappy movies but for my tastes they're way more watchable. Sommers makes bad-stupid, Cohen makes good-stupid. All the stupid shit in THE MUMMY grates on my nerves, but in STEALTH they have an exchange like "He's downloading MP3s from the internet." "How many?" (typity typity type) "All of them!" and I get a kick out of it. That's some funny shit.

So I am semi-excited for this one. I saw the trailer and thought Jesus - Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, an army of terra cotta warriors, an army of zombies, a three-headed dragon, at least one Yeti, and not directed by Stephen Sommers... even in a summer with actual good movies I'm not gonna miss this ridiculousness.

There is a catch though... why couldn't Brendan Fraser be the one that left? I realized while watching the trailer that I kind of hate that guy as an actor. Nothing against him personally, I'm sure he's a nice guy. He must be to become so successful while rarely making a good movie and in those ones only being praised for not sucking. Check out in the trailer when the pilot laughs about how he doesn't know how to land or something like that. Fraser gives a sarcastic laugh and then says "Why am I laughing?"

Buddy, are you for real? I didn't see the script but clearly the idea is that you laugh along with the guy and then catch yourself laughing. The sarcastic laugh does not work here. *Man* do I hope Jet Li wins.

What the fuck were you people expecting? The second coming? Seems like expectations are the key for me anymore. I went into KOTC knowing this was the same lame Lucas who made the SW prequels. I liked it. So did 90% of the people I've talked to about it. It wasn't perfect but it was certainly better than last years highly anticipated Shia movie. And I got no problem with Michael Bay. I like 'splosions, sue me.

To off-quote Kevin Smith. "Its Indiana Fucking Jones! It could be a turd in a bowl but if it said Indiana Jones on it, thing would make 8 billion dollars in 3 hours." The key is to make a good amount of money AND get amazing reviews. Indy obviously would get the money, but the people were mixed and left this one cold. Meanwhile Iron Man did well and got critical acclaim, and Dark Knight is going to escalate that into un-fucking-believable levels.

Yeah, wouldn't it be great if everyone stopped throwing numbers in face when it comes to Indiana Jones. I mean, without the, you know... objective numbers, it's just so much easier to go around pretending like your personal opinion is a mass reaction. Damn evidence! Getting in the way of your self-celebration. Oh well. And as for Kevin Smith, his point is as stupid as his movies. Indiana Jones was guaranteed a big opening weekend, but it was not guaranteed 750 mil worldwide and the biggest gross of the year. If it really sucked as bad the haters wish it did, it would have fallen of just like every big-opening but ultimately shit quality movie rather than... you know, nearly doubling the haul of Iron Man.

I don't like where Moriarty is loading this new Mummy film to be some sort of response to Indy4....and how it may fill the void Indy4 left for some of its audience. Mummy will never be anything like Indy on it's best day. Indy is revered and has WAY too much history and sentiment than Mummy ever will. Indy4...I JUST saw it on July 11, 2008 with my wife. I can't say it was everything I hoped it would be, I did however enjoy the shit out of it....my only complaints were the heavy handed reactions from Ford to Shia when Shia did anything remotely "intuitive or intelligent"...Indy had absolutely zero control of the outcome, and the film just felt a little out of place from the other 3 previous films, but not because it sucked...it was because it felt too modern and by modern I mean not in the 40's and it's setting being almost 1960. Other than that, I can't complain too much. I enjoyed it and will many more times on DVD.

Put the Lucas/Spielberg name on a film of Jet Lucas masturbating for 2 hours to a picture of Carrie Fisher back in her crack whore days and it'll turn in 9 figure totals, guaranteed. Really...people are programmed like a room full kids at the L.Ron Hubbard school for issue laden retards and celebrities; "oooohhhh Spielberg/Lucas Film....Must see." I'm actually of a mind that Indy 4's numbers are Very Very low all things considered....300M tells me everyone saw it...Once...no repeat business; just like the damned Sequels. If people actually liked it, and went twice, as with the original Raiders or SW trilogy..this thing would be doing much higher dollar amounts. Do the math...you'll see.

Where were the checks and balances..could SOMEBODY have just told George "No" when he blew these ideas out his bloated ass? Is it so hard to stand up to the guy? Or is it more important to just get the product to market, hype the shit out of it, promise great things, then after you have relieved the masses of their hard earned $12 bucks and given them something just a small step above a Sci-Fi channel Movie of the week go on to claim.."Well you expect to much." At least this Mummy shite isn't pretending to be anything other than what it is..fluff.
For what it's worth....

I always thought after the first Mummy they might try to remake all the old Universal monster movies with new and interesting stories. And I thought that was a good idea if only because The Mummy was so cool at the time. I figured if they made them like that, then CftBL would be equally great building a mythology around them. I'm kind of dissapointed that it never happened, as sad as most remakes have been lately. But aside from that tangent I am happy to see another Mummy movie. Why not? In the big picture it doesn't do any harm to give us some cool stuff to watch. The second Mummy movie was just that, some cool stuff to see. Even with the movie being so lackluster. A blimp? Come on! Its almost come full circle now because part of me wishes they would keep the franchise going by exploring other types of mummies around the world. Delve into other history. Not Inca's or something as overdone as that. But maybe Native Americans, or the Crusades. Have his son continue the series like Indy is supposedly up for. But I only hope to see those with somebody capable of making a solid movie. I'm not talking Sci-Fi channel Sunday afternoon movie directors or anything as bad as that.
Thank you conspiracy....

Aliens, nuked fridges, etc... could someone have just told Lucas no? These are terrible ideas and exactly the reaction I had to the film. There wasn't the repeat business like they used to get. They left a lot of money on the table. I don't know about worldwide gross, but here in America Iron man has gross 312 Mil so far, and Indiana Jones gross 308 mil... Double the gross? Not even close.

Vic Armstrong was Stunt Coordinator and Second Unit Director for numerous James Bond films going back to The Living Daylights through Die Another Day. He was stunt double for Ford in Raiders, stunt arranger for Doom and stunt coordinator for Crusade.
Sorry, this needed Weisz...

...to be anything even remotely interesting. We simply want Rachel. Why is it we get "hard core" reviews until the reviewer gets close to the director or producer? Then it becomes Fanboy heaven! The effects should be okay. The story will be average.
PS. Indy raped my summer too.

Movies ever, but Indy 4 sucked. Sorry. I tried to like it, almost forcing myself to, but it was a piece of shit. If it was even fun, i would've given it a pass, but it wasn't; i've never groaned more at a movie. Transformers was bad, but at least it was fun. Mummy 3 looks to have that fun factor Indy lacked.
Looks like a fun popcorn movie to me

Cohen makes entertaining films most of the time. And yes Indy 4 was a disappointment. Except for seeing Shia in leather, it just didn't do it for me. Blah!
Figures?

Batman & Robin took £235M at the box office. Just because lots of people go out and see a film, doesn't make it good. No matter how many bad reveiews Indy 4 got, most fans (myself included) wanted to see it for themselves. It's only then the true horror dawned. I'll read every argument there is, you can't make me like that film.
