My love of Spaced knows no bounds. I have an essay in me about the reasoning for my love of the series that would leave you in a pool of fucking tears. I'm too broke to afford airfare to Austin by the 27th though, I'm afraid. Time to drown my sorrows in a box of Pim's Orange Biscuits (the closest thing we have to Jaffa in South Florida). Jesus, can this comment get any sadder? Wait, hold on, let me find something sharp...

I relate to every single part of every single episode of Spaced in some way or the other. Even to the point of getting myself stuck to a wall whilst doing arty shit. Not only that, but some bird told me that I'm the spitting image of Simon Pegg the other day! Bitch, she got a hearty slap for that. I swear I'm more like Clooney!

I respect the opinions of others, and I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but anyone who hasn't seen it should definitely check it out and give it a try. By the way, I'd like to go on record as saying that anyone who doesn't like it IS A CUNT. And while respect you not liking it, I also think you're a cunt. There.

...Is lambasted. It is absolutely terrible and the reason it was cancelled is that NO-ONE WAS WATCHING! there is a minefield of comedy here in the UK and if you tar us as the Simon Pegg bunch you are missing out on Gervais, Brand, Dee, Connolly, Bailey, Boyle... and so much more. Just thought i'd give a brits view which is shared by most I think the viewing figures make it safe to say.

I live in Britain and I agree. SPACED was really nothing special in UK comedy. I'm glad people like it in the US, but it didn't set anyone's world on fire here. Also, SHAUN and HOT FUZZ did well here, but few people would consider them classics in British comedy either.
But don't get me wrong...

...is great! i know they never strayed from the one or two jokes every sketch had...throughout the 2 seasons i saw...but, they are very funny guys. spaced wouldn't have set the U.S. on fire, either. i loved it...but, put that on NBC and it would've been swallowed by "how i met your mother" and "according to jim" and reality tv. by the way, it didn't seem like it was cancelled...it ended, right?

Are you seriously retarded or something? First off, Spaced wasn't cancelled, it ran for 2 series and then the makers decided to do something else. If they'd written a third series, then Channel 4 would have aired it. Secondly, both Ricky Gervais and Bill Bailey appeared in Spaced, so they're part of the show too. Thirdly, I'm English (now living in the States) and I know for a fact both Ricky Gervais and Russell Brand to name but a few are also as popular in the US as Simon Pegg, so don't go bandying around names like you're revealing them exclusively to people in America. Just because it may have originally passed under most people's radar in it's first showing in England, don't assume that it hasn't gained cult status now, and that's on both sides of the Atlantic. So before you go spouting pure shite again, I'd check your facts first. That way, you won't look like such a dumb twat.
Best TV show ever.

Spaced may not have been technically cancelled but it wasn't just 'ended' a la the office (Gervais') so possibly a half way point because you cant say what channel 4 would have done - but I think viewing figures would have come into it. And yes they make appearances but its hardly there main home. Oh and I 'bandy' names around purely in hope it will lead to a few people youtubing them and seeing real funny. Maybe i'm a tad negative and Kentrel has made a relevant post without resorting to name calling. Which btw is exactly whats wrong with these boards.

davebaxter1989 pissed me off good and proper coming on here and talking crap. If he doesn't like Spaced, fair enough, but to spout a load of bollocks about the show just means he knows fuck all about English comedy. Anyone can come in here and say 'Hey, here's some shows that are great that you may not have heard of' and look like a smartarse, but I can't stand liars, hence my 'potty mouth'. That and the fact that people in here can piss me off in general at the best of times. Wow, must be my time of the month...

Seriously... I love Spaced; I love numbing by butt in a theater, especially the Alamo Drafthouse.

Plus... this is just a few days after my birthday (hell, the DVD set comes out ON my birthday!!).

But... I live in Oregon, not Texas. Dammit!

Why are scientists worrying about getting us back to the moon?!? They should be figuring out how to scramble our molecules and shoot them around the world instantaneously...

Or, we should at least start traveling by tube, Futurama-style.

But, all bitterness to geography aside, I hope all the lucky bastards who get to be there have an awesome time... with your "O-ray-gone-oh" and your "Phantom Menace" ;)

Why thank you good sir, I do like to keep the flag flying despite my current distance from good old Blighty. And davebaxter1989, you said, and I quote 'Spaced in its Home Counrty (sic) Is lambasted. It is absolutely terrible and the reason it was cancelled is that NO-ONE WAS WATCHING'. Where did you get your so-called 'facts' from? How was it lambasted? Come on kid, at least explain what you meant. I assume you say it was 'lambasted' because both yourself and your friend 'lambasted' it? By the way, do you even know what 'lambasted' means?! Plus, where did you get your information from regarding the show being 'cancelled'? Anyone who knows anything about 'British' comedy knows that the show was *NOT* cancelled. I'm very much looking forward to your amazing response...

Well I enjoy the dictionary.com definition that it is to 'berate harshly' As that is in fact what I thought of it. And it's fair to say that it's indeterminable if it was cancelled or stopped for artistic reasons as Neither of us works for channel 4 so sorry for being so general as I like to think cancelled in this particular debate. Now I very much enjoy a good Film/TV debate but don't lower it to pointing out my typos or grammar as its not very becoming.

I hardly pointed it out and I wasn't having a go at you for doing so, I merely quoted what you wrote and left in your spelling error. I still don't get why you're 'harshly berating' a show that sold very well when released on dvd in the UK, and has a major following? I fully accept that you don't like the show, that's perfectly fine, but why do you continue to pluck falsehoods from thin air in order to support your claims about the show being bad? And just for your information, you can't cancel a show that the writers stopped writing for. It was their decision, not Channel 4's. And if Edgar Wright, Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) and Simon Pegg decided to make a third series, you'd be more foolish than you already appear to be to assume that it wouldn't be picked up by Channel 4 again. If David Mitchell and Robert Webb decided to stop making Peep Show and went off to do something new, would you consider the show as cancelled by Channel 4? The way you're waffling on, the answer would probably be 'yes'.

OK I can be honest enough to admit that a lot of my hostility toward this comes from my distaste for the comedic stylings of Simon Pegg. Try as I might I find him insufferable so best to punctuate whatever I say with that as it will more than likely bring across a negative tone when I discuss him. I'm perfectly willing to admit I was wrong and will take your word as truth as you are plenty more able to disect Spaced than me being a fan. I'm glad you have became less hostile the longer we talked and I have been more than corrected in my first opinion which was that other Brit-coms aren't given there due in the American market. I still maintain though that this particular website appears only to have eyes for spaced Brit-com wise.

And here was I about to assume that the '1989' in your name was actually the year you were born, making you about 18 or 19, and thus, not able to comprehend Spaced in the same level that someone in their 30's would. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it would have explained why you didn't enjoy it as much as most of the people in this Talkback. But your disliking of Simon Pegg makes all of that pretty redundant. And perhaps AICN singles out Spaced due to it spawning cult movies like Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz? I don't think 'Magicians' by Mitchell & Webb had quite the same impact, not that I'm knocking them or anything. I've enjoyed their body of work since 'Bruiser' on the Beeb...
