Mate, she wouldn't go near the new trilogy. Period, until we sat down one sat night and watched the three of them back to back. I wanted her to form an opinion without prejudging something. I'm trying to educate her on the world of film as she isn't a big movie lover. my point being, she wasn't completely horrified by it. Granted, of course, parts 1 and 2 are shit on a stick. But part three isn't the travesty everyone makes it out to be. And she enjoyed it. Now she is keen to rewatch the original trilogy with me. Something she hasn't done since she was a kid. Now that deserves a big "Woot Woot!"

has finally been given the go ahead to be completed as intended after years of battle, to be shown at probably three cinemas worldwide before hitting the torren...DVD format.

Cynicism aside I'm genuinely pleased for the 'forces' driving this project. Cliches aside, if you have a vision then you should chase it. It's just that the narrative, about a group of mates trying to break into Lucasfilm to see an advanced copy of Episode 1 as a friend is dying of cancer, just doesn't interest me at all.

Fanboyism by it's very nature is difficult to convey. Spaced is probably the best example I've seen of the nature of fanboys coming across but even then that was driven by very talented individuals and straddled a varied number of sources and conventions.

Why is the original director still editing it?

as anticipated as the Star Wars Clone Wars film. I'm not really a Star Wars buff (my childhood revolved in wonder of TJ Hooker pimping his way through the galaxy), but can you imagine the fuss the mainstream media would be making of the Clone Wars if this were '98? It's due next month isn't it?

Now, nothing. My only interest in Star Wars now is I'm going to show my young cousin the originals in a few weeks - I hope he likes them. Of the CW's barely a mention outside the usual dedicated movie sites, and even then it's muted.

This Fanboy's flick probably will find appreciate from those who've tracked it's development, as the 'it's not the film but the friendship and obsession formed around it' message is understandable but even then it's hard not to be apathetic.

I understand what it is to have a geeky side, but when so much is coming out to get enthused over in terms of indie and mainstream geekdom (I hear a new take on Batman is coming out sometime soon...?), Hellboy, Watchman et al - memories of a galaxy far far away are fond but remain just that.

This is on par with the lost Metropolis footage discovery!

Okay, I know this has probably already been said (and I know I'm risking having my STAR WARS fan card revoked by saying it again), but doesn't the MacGuffin of the film -- a print of THE PHANTOM MENACE -- kind of deflate the urgency of the story? Yeah, I know the film was written years ago, but in retrospect I think a quest for the last film of the saga, REVENGE OF THE SITH, would invite less ridicule.

Yes, I can recall the feverish excitement of 1999. STAR WARS was in the air again, electrified and fresh. But I can also recall the punch-in-the-stomach of sitting in the theater as the credits finally rolled up. "Uh, what did I just see?"

and give back to all the original fanboys what they were hoping for. Directors? Michael Mann - Lots of explosions and many shots of Jedi walking towards the camera in slow motion. Tarantino - 1.5 hours of senseless talking about nothing related to Star Wars and then 30 minutes of pure bloodshed as the Jedi die. Woody Allen - The plot will focus on how old Jedi are coping with dating young girls in the Imperial City. Spike Lee - Lead actor in all three movies will be Samuel L. (Mother Fuckin) Jackson and how his character deals with racism and injustice by beating ignorant white asses throughout the galaxy.

score big, but TDK is a a fictional fantasy superhero movie. It's dark, grim and yes depressing because bad things happen to people around Bruce Wayne, but in the end it's just a superhero movie, an escapist one. Cancer is real and a lot of people experience losing people they love to cancer in real life.... i don't think people will want to see that, they had enough sadness in real life, why drive miles to the theaters and sit through it again?
