Funny. Scary. Classic Bruce. And amazing work given the rock-bottom budget (I forget what the spit-and-shoestring budget was, but it was cheap). Sam Raimi at his best. To contrast, Darkman was not Raimi at his best. Spiderman III was not Raimi at his best.

As much as it pains Fred to say, Bruce would have been too funny in role, even if they tried to make Bruce serious. It took Duchovny's sincere belief in role of Fox Mulder to pull it off. Bruce would have been too much of a skeptic wiseacre. Fred not get to write 'wiseacre' too often, so Fred likes when Fred can write wiseacre.

1 & 2 were awesome, have never seen Army Of Darkness, even though I need to, it just always looked cheesy compared to the first two. Evil Dead 2 was a bit lighter than 1, but AoD just looked almost like a flat out comedy, and it just didn't appeal to me. Still doesn't really, but one of these days I will get around to seeing it. On a side note, watched Rami's Darkman the other night, still love that movie, I was even Darkman for Halloween one year.

Overweight and pissed..
by jfp2007
Jul 8th, 2008
04:46:29 PM
Campbell needs to lose some weight. He's going to look exactly like William Shatner when he's in his 70s at this weig..I mean rate. Hell, he looks like him shape wise kind of sort of right now. He has millions, so he can afford to get a motivating self trainer. He can can't make an Evil Dead 4 looking like that. Also, the "you can't take all of Sam's toys away" line could be interpreted in so many ways. It's almost like he wants to save his friend from the monster that Spider-man may have created. Give him $12 million and make ED4. Erectile Dysfunction 4: Uptown. If they can make The Grudge remake for $4 million and make it at least spooky, nice looking, and make a shitload of cash then they can do a new ED for even less than what it took to make Army of Darkness. We know Raimi can still work the ol' magic because of the surgery room scene from Spider-man 2. Yeah, it was Sam imitating Sam but what do you think is going to be in a new ED movie? That scene was very ED1 and ED2. Army didn't have a whole lot of that fancy, artsy camera stuff in it. There's also the scene right before Doc Ock and Green Goblin Jr. strike their bargain. That double camera swoop move right before Ock appears is lifted right out of ED2.

That's what they need to do is a Darkman remake starring Bruce. That's what Raimi originally wanted anyway, but the movie studio hacks wanted a bigger star. That's why they got Liam and Bruce was reduced to a cameo at the end.

ED2 was not a remake of ED1. The first few minutes (right up to where his woman gets snatched was a RECAP of the events of ED1 minus the rest of the characters). Those first few scene were kind of like a "reimagining" of the first film and then the rest of the story follows that. I'm not sure if this is confirmed (via creator lips) or just a very nice explanation (it has been years since I read it), but this is the version of events I subscribe to. ED2 simply stripped all the characters 'cept Linda (assuming that's her name), tweaks it a bit, and then tells us something new but similar. It gets around the remake problem (think about it, why remake it and think about the times...it wasn't today and the past few years with our remakeitis obsession...this version of events makes perfect sense).

Raimi doesn't WANT $200 millon for a new Evil Dead movie. As they said in the interview, a high-budget Evil Dead defeats the purpose. If anything, Raimi would probably use 10-15 mil of his own money just to stick to the low budget origins and also be able to release it on his own terms.

... if they ever decide to make another edition of this series, here's to hoping that they return the filming to Tenessee, North Carolina or to Raimi/Campbell's home state of Michigan. Still completely cocky & womanizing, hits on anything that moves. Do a full comedy aging Justice League movie. Have Billy Bob Thornton as a pissed off alcoholic old Batman and Steve Buscemi as a creepy Green Lantern. Hell, throw Rosie O'Donnel in as a has been Wonder Woman for good measure. Cast someone young and traditional as Superman, have them all get pissed off that he's not aging and continues to be celebrated while they have all been forgotten. Make the whole thing a BubbaHoTep-ish comedy about them trying to take out Superman and staying regular. it'd be horrific, put probably pretty funny

This is nothing new. Bruce has been saying this for years. He won't do an EVIL DEAD movie without Mr. Bigshot. Raimi's career took off with A SIMPLE PLAN and in a different way (believe me, I hate to even say this as much as I hate the film) FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME and then in a big way SPIDER MAN. If ever at some point, Raimi takes a step back and decides for a goof to revisit his roots and make a no holds barred EVIL DEAD movie, they'll make one. It's always been about Sam. It's his decision. He'd write it, direct it and produce it. It's a given Bruce would be in it if Raimi directed it. I mean come on. He's been in everything else. Him and the Buick.

i live 45 minutes from morristown.

i make a pilgrimage to whats left of the location every so often. just so i can pine about how far removed i am from anything cool related to filmmaking.

what? it's tough being a film fanatic in NE tennessee. how many exclusive test screening do you think come anywhere near me? huh?

don't judge me...

Someone should suggest to Ridley Scott that he should at least give this guy a screen test for the part. I bet you if got the part he would be the best Robin Hood on film ever.
