Me and Ron have the same birthday. I can't frakin wait to see this. I've a friend who 'doesn't think it looks good.' Can you believe that shnaz? And she (yup, she) loves fantasy and LOTR, etc. She and I both have our beef with Pan. I thought the fantasy was great but the 'real world' story was full of cliche scenes and, to be honest, was a bit too heavy handed with violence. Anyway, too bad H.B.III looks like at least 6 years away, if it ever happens.

A New Hope kind of sucked. I respect the fact that they got that movie done in the 70s when CGI didn't really exist, but the acting is painful. The only good actors are James Earl Jones and Harrison Ford.

The first Hellboy was a great film. Guillermo Del Toro really hit it home with that film. However something doesn't seem right in any of the trailers released for H.B. II. Either the dialogue seems overly campy, or it seems as though they are trying really too hard to include as many monsters as humanely possible to appeal to the monster loving crowd. That's a generalization, I know, but I wasn't going to H.B. II to see a sequel to Pan's Labyrinth. I was going to H.B. II to see a sequel to H.B. I. 'Nuff said. I own the first film on DVD and intend on seeing H.B. II at a midnight showing the day before it arrives in theaters. Yet I still have my reservations. And by the way, with all due respect to the genius that is Guillermo Del Toro, did he have any say in the release date for said film? Because he had to have had some inkling of a clue that The Dark Knight was going to blow H.B. II out of the water the very next week. Releasing H.B. II in the same month, let alone the week prior to T.D.K., was a gutsy, albeit, moronic move. My hat is off to whoever thought of doing that. But at least it will be number one at the box office for one week... right?

I was looking forward to reading a review of the film. Not a review of the critic's experiences meeting with the H.B. cast and crew. I agree with the person above who asked about pacing, dialogue, plotline(s), etc. Reviews are supposed to the give the general public an idea as to how the film itself fared. That's why they are reviews of the film and not reviews of the cast and crew's amiable nature. I'll just wait for Rotten Tomatoes to post a rating and see what it gets on that site. Because this review was seriously lacking in every regard.

...it was really disappointing. I thought the 1st film was good, not great, but love GDT, so was looking forward to this. The film's structure was weak, it was pretty self indulgent, lacked focus, lacked a sense of urgency, etc. The visuals were great, of course, and Luke Goss was awesome as the Prince. But in a movie called "Hellboy", I should not be so bored with the title character, that I was actually looking forward for them to cut back to the prince. I'm in a hurry right now, but I need to sit down and write a formal review..

I'm sorry my review isn't something that you would read in a news paper or isn't telling you exactly what you want to hear. And for those of you on the star wars side, I was just trying to relay my experience. They way I felt walking out of New Hope for the first time (be it I saw the special edition in theaters, i wasn't even a gamete when it originally came out) was similar to the way i felt walking out of this. I really shouldn't have to justify my post, I was trying to share my thoughts and experiences with everyone here in a polite manner. I'm sorry my jornalism skills arent as polished as many of you trolls would enjoy, but i feel i put out a decent effort for it being 4 am when i sent it in. And if harry really thought it was shit he wouldnt have posted it. Give me a bit of a break, its my first one.

Buckeye is a plant and Selma and Guillermo were nice...because they knew he was writing a review... Seriously? Well I wasn't writing a review and I couldn't have been treated better by ANY of the cast. I was absolutely shocked at how friendly and unassuming they all were. Guillermo sat at his table for hours on end as every fanboy within 10 miles gushed over him and his work. He took time with EVERY person he spoke to. He was gracious to a fault...and his adorable wife the same. He is the real deal. There is no veneer to him. He seems genuinely shocked by the attention he is getting... Think about it. Blade, Hellboy, Labyrinth, Hobbit...what does he have to do to believe the attention is warranted? Honestly, I believe the man can still remember what it was like at the bottom...which makes him a rare commodity in the self-aggrandizing cult of Hollywood. (We only need to look to true tools like Michael Bay to see how that turns out.) Like I said...I'm not going to review the movie...because, love it or not...it's worth every dime you would spend on it. And even if you hate Hellboy...see it as a preview for the kind of singular, on-screen, twisted beauty we can expect tenfold in the Hobbit films. Buckeye was in the presence of true greatness...greatness tempered by untouched humility...so feel free to cut him some slack %$#@* tools... --Kes And if you have a problem finding a red sharpie...e-mail kesinator@yahoo.com...

Snow White was revolutionary, but its two follow-ups, Pinocchio and Fantasia, were immeasurably better; Toy Story made quite a ripple, yet most of the subsequent Pixar movies were improvements (Cars notwithstanding). So why should we balk when someone compares a recent film favorably to ANH? It's been some 30 years; there should be (and have been) fantasies that eclipsed Star Wars. And Guillermo would certainly be one of the men to accomplish this.

I wasn't 100% sold on HB1 and I'm a big fan of Guillermo. Cronos remains one of the most expensive movies I ever purchased on cover coolness alone(think because it was released here by Tartan and they charged lots for arthouse!) anyway have been an avid consumer of his brand of weirdness ever since and thought he knocked the first Blade on it's ass with the sequel and made his masterpiece with Pans but I though Hellboy 1 lacked (probably due to budget restaining vision) anyway hope this does indeed kick all kinds of alien ass!

Whatever your opinion of Star Wars might be...no film and I mean NO FILM kicked everybody's ass sideways the way that did. The movie going public (internationally), the industry, the special effects industry...everything was turned on it's head not to mention being burned eternally into the pop-culture psyche and becoming a modern day mythology. It's easy to forget this especially if you weren't around at the time. This wasn't like the Matrix or something fresh like that...this redifined what was possible. Close Encounters may have been provacative to some people of a certain age group but Star Wars grabbed EVERYBODY right across the board whether you were 10 yrs old or 80. It fully embraced everything that had come before and flung it light years into the future.
So my challenge is...

They get paid more in a year that you will make in a lifetime...people line up to kiss their asses, get hugs, or shake their hands; these same fans will then sit for hours while you pontificate about matters small and smaller..hanging on each syllable that spews from your mouth as if Jebus his own bad self was your speech writer..life is good...the world is your friend...you can get laid with the hottest women/men within 5 minutes of the urge hitting you..you have six figure cars in the garage, you work 8 months out of the year..you vacation on private beaches, fly in 1st class and assistants are happy to drive down to the worst areas of Venice to pick up your Pot.. Hellboy 2 = Mummy Returns and AICN blowjobs
by Big Dumb Ape
Jun 30th, 2008
02:48:25 AM
For the record, I'll be there opening weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing it. From the trailers and commercials it looks like it will be (yes, here comes the infamous phrase) a good summer popcorn flick.

That said, I would agree with others that this review gets a bit gushy, and speaking as someone who was there in '77 to experience SW: ANH on the big screen and saw firsthand its mighty effect, someone comparing HELLBOY 2 to THAT experience will always get me to shake my head. Then again, maybe this reviewer is young and impressionable and hasn't seen too much, hence he sees a lot of monsters running around and decides "Holy crap! Look at all this stuff filling the screen! This is revolutionary!" You want to know a reality? Here you go -- the sad truth is...as we all get older...the very REAL and ACTUAL cultural and revolutionary impact that ANH had on literally the ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD gets diluted by younger film fans who mistakenly think each next big movie is somehow equivalent to what ANH accomplished in terms of truly redefining filmmaking, special effects, box office, merchandising, pop culture assimilation...you name it.

Frankly, not to sound too old and crotchety, given the "increased scale" of things that I've seen in the promos for this thing, right now I'm just hoping that HELLBOY 2 is nerely a satisfying summer movie, and it's not something that was made with the usual bullshit Hollywood attitude that more shit tossed on the screen makes it better. Because if the credits roll and that's all this was, it will simply be another bloated sequel and we can just call it THE MUMMY RETURNS REVISITED.

Oh yeah, and in terms of favoritism, I'd agree that J.J Abrams, G. Del Toro and Joss Whedon must really love coming to AICN on a regular basis. Because where else could they instantly get such nice, wet, sloppy and totally unquestioned blowjobs the second they walked in the door?

Looks good. No heart. That sums it up. And that kinda summed up the first one. Great visuals, great creatures (very Pans Labyrinth), but unlink Pans where Guillermo made us feel for the girl, and even the romance between the two revolutionaries...the plot and characters here are disposable.

Did ANYONE care about the Liz and Hellboy fights and whole pregnancy thing??? And Abe and the Princess? (though Abe was one of the shining spots of the movie. Just Abe+princess...not so much.)

Maybe this reviewer is a big Guillermo fan, or he was in awe of the premiere or seeing him or the whole closing night of the film festival thing (he was probably one of the people up against the gate of the Universal party waiting for them to open their doors for everyone while I was sucking down mojitos.) But yeah...entertaining enough to pass the time, but not a great or even very good movie by any means.

I agree with all your comments.Though I don't think that some of the cantina stuff is that bad.Though the bit with Ben chopping at them with his sabre , does seem confusing. What I found interesting with the special edition make-over is that they chose to replace a lot of okay to good model shots with cgi BUT left in stuff like Red leaders demise .Its all very inconsistent and random

ep 3 could have been way condensed for it had some unnesecary parts. there were also a lot of bad lines and grievious's voice and caughing were horrible, plus that lame close up of obi wans eyes when he says 'oh i don't think so, and ofcourse nooooo! jedi could of used a few more scenes, the sand storm, luke building his lightsabre, the imperial city, maybe could have changed taottoine to somewhere else and cut the dance number, thats about ti. the final space battle intercut witht the light sabre duel and ewok battle was amazing.

Yes, certainly agree with you on that. But it's hard to say anything about HB2 which I haven't seen yet but definitely will, because even the Hollywood Guillermo is a more interesting fantasy/action moviemaker/director as most of his American peers. The love and admiration for Guillermo is most certainly 110% warranted, but would love him to go make another Spanish film very soon, because those are definitely his greatest ones.
