said he wants to make it into two movies. the first one is a straight adaptation of the book. the second will be half continuation of his version and half lead-in to peter jackson's trilogy, which will be made to look exactly like the OG LOTR right down to the lenses and lighting he will use. sounds interesting, but he said he'll make the first one and wait to see if the second feels organic after that. he also says "fuck" a lot, and hellboy is supposed to be more of a sequel to his movie rather than a continuation of the comic's original story. that's mostly all i got.

the 720 and 1080-Versions of the HD-trailers look like they have been filmed from a tv-set or a bad videocassette. the small HD-one is fine though. This film looks AWESOME btw. I hope we can see it on Fantasy Filmfest in Berlin, Hellboy 1 was shown there too long before release.

I think there's no doubt that this is gonna be an improvement over the first one. Del Toro is just a genius when it comes to this stuff. Plus its nice to see that he's not using cgi for all his characters. After watching shoddy films like "I am Legend" i think there's something to be said for a director that chooses practical effects over computer generated stuff. The bit where Hellboy walks around the fairytail land gave me flashbacks of Tatooine from New Hope.

...makes me wonder if english is indeed my first language. Anyway, my point was I personally found the first to be a disappointment, despite everything on the screen it was all just so detached and uninvolving, so I hope this time DelToro has managed to deliver more than just empty, soulless spectacle.

See, I'm quite excited about this film, but this trailer sucks complete balls? I mean, for some reason the footage they put in from the first film (also, what the fuck is up with that) is interlaced, so it just looks dodgy. And the trailer itself isn't really exciting. Do people not understand the point of a trailer? Marketing requires excitement, especially with a film. This isn't selling it for me like the first two trailers did, it feels like a mis-step.

This film, like the first one, is absolutely beautiful to behold. Look at the character design, the colors, the costumes, the CGI, it's all breathtaking. The first film was good but not great. It started off strong with the whole Nazi mysticism thing, but it really degenerated from there. GDT really has an eye for cinematic design. Oh and watch the Prologue, it's really cool!

is probably that not a lot of people saw the first movie. That's my guess, but i'm sure that's what it is. It's not "dodgy", it's very smart- there are probably a large group of people thinking "hey this looks cool, but I didn't see the first one". They will probably promise themselves to watch it on dvd first, never do, and then that's one less ticket at the box office.

Also, I was completely unaware that The Hobbit was in his charge before I made that comment about Tolkien. That should be very interesting.

All they play, repeatedly: Young Sherlock Holmes, Pan's Labyrinth, Spiderwick Chronicles, Kung-Fu Panda and Wall-E. Every time I have put it on there for the past week, those are the titles I have seen. And, yes, I know there are people who like those titles, but continuously play them? Why not play something new? Maybe a few scores by this small-timer named John Williams, or a guy named John Barry. Maybe, perhaps Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore....Maybe some Rocky, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings.. you know... something for us geeks.. I just don't get it.

look, you can hate Night's films as much as you want, and whether said in jest or not, calling him a 'filthy Punjabi' is racist, stupid and offensive. When is it going to be okay to insult someone for their work (or lack of work) and not castigate an entire group of people? Say that with another group, black, Jewish, women, hell, white person and there would be hellish backlash. But I guess Indians and others are just 'filthy' and can be treated any way a moron who calls himself --Emperor-- sees fit. If AICN can post this stuff unfiltered, it's a sad testament to civil discourse.

hb doesnt actually come through the portal (the vortex created by rasputin) - once the portal is open hb just materializes at a random spot in the general vicinity - the first hellboy movie is great - it is unfairly maligned - it played out like a hb comic - hit all the right notes - i find its better with repeat viewings - theres a lot to enjoy there - its not a giant loud superhero movie - but it rivals and surpasses a lot of the big ones

Ripping on Batman Begins, Hellboy and now TDK and Hellboy II BEFORE they even see them. I understand not LOVING them...but calling them shit because a fight scene wasn't choreographed exactly to their wet dream specifications...or calling Del Toro a hack is just SO over the top. I'm thankful to have such great efforts being made at bringing stuff like this to the big screen and for the most part suceeding. I think Del Toro and Jackson together are going to make the Hobbit better than any of the LOTR installments. Just a hunch.

When I first saw a trailer from HB2, the shot of the demon with dozens of eyes on its wings made me say, "Son of a bitch, these guys are totally ripping off Wayne Douglas Barlowe's INFERNO!" Took a quick IMDB search to find out why...a large number of the creature designs for HB2 (and the first HB) ARE Barlowe's.

For those not in the know, Barlowe is one of the most unique talents in the SF/Fantasy illustration racket. Many years ago, in the early eighties, he did a "Field Guide To Extraterrestrials" that included one of the creatures from the Lovecraft classic, an Old One, at the link above...a future Del Toro collaboration could be very cool, and very creepy, what with Barlowe's utterly alien approach.

Shit, TinyUrl link failed...

was that it didn't have enough variety. I think they should have had more monsters in it but they kept resurrecting that one until it got old. Plus there were pacing issues but all in all it was a good effort. Hellboy 2 looks amazing, however with a shit load of monsters and variety out the ass. This almost reminds me of a Jim Henson film and I'm sure this is the direction he would have went in had he lived on and made more movies. I say this is the summer film to beat, though I know it won't make Batman numbers, I think it will do well.

except for the issue you and a lot of others seem to have with hb1's pacing - that said, if you know anyone that can make a similar movie with the same scale and production values etc. on the same budget seek them out - hb1 was by most standards a small movie, but it played out with some real grandeur where needed - shot in prague to save money, which there wasnt much to begin with, then piss-poor backing and promotion from the studio - and yet the movie is awesome - i was excited to see a hb movie, and very happy with the results - imagine how bad it couldve been - i heard del toro couldve gotten a bigger budget had he cast vin diesel as hb - and maybe we couldve gotten more monsters and bigger sets in that case, but ron pearlman is hb - he was born to play him - im getting long winded - anyway, i hope this new one is a big hit so we can get a franchise - id like to see movie versions of ben daimio, kate corrigan, roger the homunculus, and lobster johnson - a bprd movie (maybe with hb as just a supporting character)
