I'm curious - when a fairly non-specific review like this comes in (good and well written) surely they have to provide you with proof of how and when the screening went down, even if that info isn't published?

There isn't really any information in the review that couldn't be cribbed from the endless promos released for this bad boy.

Bring it on regardless.

if you'd been online saw no full reviews were on the ENTIRE internets, you'd be at least a little savvy to the cynicsm and drop in non-specific spoilers such as 'the scene that follows the bank is X, with Y and Z as a few lines of dialogue that havent been included in the trailers'.

The whole 'i dont want to spoil it for you' is a fair point, but just to say 'It was great' over several paragraphs isn't far removed from just saying 'IT WAS AWESOME' and nothing else.

And that would just be a bus load of daftness...

In the latest Issue of Empire Magazine the film is described as being the Heat of comic book movies where Batman and Joker are the Pacino and De Niro characters. This is just a pieced together review with very little specific info - hence it is marketed as "spoiler free" which basically means they haven't seen it and are generalising based on numerous pieces of info about the film that we already know.

not very important. But I'm relieved to see that we're not given another "Incredible Hulk" where the character developement isn't left on the cutting room floor in sacrifrice for action. Many consider Spider Man 2 the best comic book adaptation so far. Some feel Iron Man got just about everything right. Well, I'm predicting folks that the Dark Knight will be not just a good "superhero" or "comicbook" movie, but a god damn cinematic masterpiece.

The film only screened once so far and that was to a room full of studio execs last month (otherwise there would be a shit load of reviews online by now). Half of this review was taken from shit that we already know and have seen in the trailers (not to mention fanboy speculation). Even "the 3 sides of bruce wayne" was taken from what Christian Bale said about the character back in 2005. FAKE.

WITHOUT having seen the movie....but I'm going to wait till I see the movie before I judge it. So far, the signs point to a few problems, namely:

1. The approach they've taken with trying to set it in the 'real' world - a big mistake; it didn't work in the first film. It just makes the movie tedious.

2.Batman Begins had a few good ideas and some good moments, but overall was like watching paint dry. The Dark Knight is made by the same people.

From the trailers, Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is over-acted and otherwise unremarkable. He's giving exactly the kind of performance I would expect from ANY actor playing a supervillian in a comic book movie. No more, no less.

This reviewer compares The Dark Knight to 'Heat' - one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Like Batman Begins, it's an over-long, pointless movie that's like watching paint dry. I wish Harry would tone down his own hype and take a balanced view of these movies.

If that was your ONE issue with a movie you would comment on how it was addressed in a sequel. Unless you had pieced your review together from an issue of Empire Magazine, interviews with the actors and what's available online. This is bullshit...still can't wait for the movie, though.

...and some guesses of the, uh, "viewer" who sent this. I don't follow all news on this movie - still waiting for a Joker as good as Jack Nicholson's, because Marilyn Manson in a coat is certainly not the Joker, and while sheep may believe so, the fact remains that the death of any actor who plays any character does not magically and automatically improve said character in any way - but I'll bet 99% of what this guy writes can be found online.

***WARNING. I AM WARNING YOU RIGHT FUCKING NOW. DO NOT READ BELOW THIS IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE DARK KNIGHT SPOILED FOR YOU. THIS IS SERIOUS SHIT.*** Rachel Dawes dies. The Joker dies. Two-Face dies. Batman and Alfred cry like babies while hugging each other. Jim Gordon kills Two-Face. Batman kills The Joker after The Joker learns his identity and threatens Alfred's life. The Joker drops Rachel Dawes out of a window but she only breaks one leg and both arms but then the Joker stabs her in the heart (literally) later right in front of Batman. Bat Girl is introduced (sort of, it's actually Barbara Gordon, Jim's daughter, but no mention of Bat Girl really). Clayface is introduced at the very end of the film in a very strange way so he will probably be the main villain in the 3rd film. There is an actor on TV who has a "bizarre skin reaction" to a cosmetic skin cream which made his hands "like melted caramel" according to a doctor's report. That's about it, folks. The movie fuckin rocked. If you can see it in IMAX, THEN GO FUCKING SEE IT IN IMAX!!! THE ACTION SCENES ARE FUCKING BRILLIANT!!! Best movie of the year by far.

Shame on you indeed. ;-)

I won't argue over the merits of BB. But to say Nolan's movies aren't intense and engrossing is missing something spectacular.

I watched Batman 1989 again and Nolan's scope is just so vast. In the previous Batmans you can see soundstages and perfectly lit chase sequences with no suspense whatsoever. And I think Nolan's realism fits Batman more than other superheroes because he has no super powers and is just trying to make Gotham better one criminal at a time.

And it's funny that in the same breath the "synopsiser" says this is Nolan's first linear movie -- and then compares it to Godfather 2, which is nothing but flashbacks. I guess he means there is similarity with Al Pacino's intrigue portion, but that's funny to me.

As if the original Batman was anything close to Godfather... gimme a laugh please. It was good, not great, I still trying to figure out what Ken Watanabe was doing in it and why... what a waste. Maybe this one is great, but I think that because of Ledgers's death judgement on it will be always a bit biased. Even if his performance is lesser than Nicholson's, people will always give him more credit than for the former. Early death has that strange effect, to transform people in more than they really were. Whatever.

I am a die-hard for continuity. I hate when series recast; it seems almost better to write a character out. If the Dark Knight turns out to be an exceptional film, does anyone think Nolan should remove Katie Holmes from the original film? Should they refilm the scenes between Christian and Maggie. I mean, really, how many scenes were there between the two characters of Bruce and Rachel. Or digitally replace Katie with Maggie, via the George Lucas "Sebastian Shaw" technique? Your thoughts?

08:01:31 AM
To respond to "just pillow talk", "new" is not always BETTER. Just because this "vision" of the Joker is new, it doesn't mean it's better. This Joker is a terrorist, and doesn't resemble ANY previous incarnation of the Joker in film, animation, or comics. I don't want the Cesar Romero Joker, and I don't want the Nicholson Joker, even though both of these Jokers had "roots" in their original comic persona. I actually LIKE the visual "look" of this Joker, but I have a MAJOR issue with the "applied" makeup and no backstory for the character. If Nolan wanted to have "Ichi The Killer" in the movie, he should have created a totally new character with no reference to a standard & canon Batman character. I'll probably see this movie, but as a download or bootleg: I don't intend on giving WB, Nolan, or DC any of my money for fucking with my well-loved characters.

Okay.......I have a very good inside source who has seen a 98% complete cut of The Dark Knight and has given me some key plot points.......read ahead at your own risk....... spoliers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In my contact's honest opinion the film will satisfy just about every fan of the first film. It develops the themes of Batman Begins logically and earnestly. Here are the key points: 1. Joker's plan is to "kill Batman" as he opines in the trailers we've seen......but his greater plan is not to just kill Batman but discredit him as a crimefighter. Law enforcement's trust of Batman, and specifically Gordon's relationship with the Dark Knight is the reason that organized crime is on the ropes at the start of the film. Joker begins to discredit Batman, not only by openly attacking him, but creating Two-Face. Two-Face goes on a murderous rampage in this film, brutally murdering many of the crimelords that hired the Joker. By the end of the film, law enforcement, and Gordon, no longer trust Batman or any vigilantes, and Gordon's fear of escalation rings true. 2. Many have asked why bring back Rachel Dawes? Rachel is Wayne's only connection to a normal life and the happy memories of his childhood before his family's death. SPOILER: Joker kills Rachel Dawes by tossing her off a rooftop when he discovers her connection to Batman (though he never discovers that Wayne is Batman, he does figure there is some connection through doing his homework on the events from the first film.) Wayne, as Batman, tries to save her in freefall (as was done heavily in the Burton/Schumacher films) but is unsuccessful, this crushes Wayne and by the end of the film, he contemplates giving up the mantle of the Bat for good, which brings us to point three...... 3. We discover, very late in the film, that Dawes has a cousin.....Richard Grayson, who lost his parents early in life in a freak accident and sees Dawes as a parent figure. Dawes' death serves as a catalyst that will drive him toward becoming a vigilante. Supposedly, the third film will focus on Wayne as he takes Grayson under his wing in hopes of healing and preventing him from making the same mistake.........(this is the big Spoiler not on display in anyway in the trailers) The film is likened to Empire Strikes Back. It is the middle part of a trilogy. At its conclusion, Wayne/Batman is on the ropes, Gotham doesn't have a defender, and Joker is still on the loose. How they will handle Ledger's absence in the next film has not been determined, but the discussions surrounding the third film deal with healing (Gotham's and Wayne's) and reconciling Batman as a vigilante and a hero. As I said.....read at your own risk.

Preacherhunter, thanks for the scoop! We'll see if it pans out that way. However, I still have concerns with the Rachel Dawes character. I do not fault Nolan for keeping her character, but I do think he needs to re-edit Batman Begins for continuity's sake. There will be little emotional connection to her death because we are so used to seeing Katie Holmes in that role. (In fact, some people might even cheer for her death, which is probably not the response Nolan wants for the audience.) Hence, my original point of reshooting.

FARRRTTTT. I guess your not a fan of the Batman movie series. Every Batman movie has had a new love intrest. Basinger, Pfeiffer, Kidman, O'Donnell, Holms, The uglier Gyllenhaal. You I'm glad she dies, she deserved it. I hope they fucking just get rid of the whole love story with Batman for Batman Begins Forever. I bet comic book movies have a hard time keeping actresses on because they all know what happened to Margot Kidder. And it looks like Kirsten Dunst hasn't been getting many good roles since old Tobes came along.

Series7, the difference is that those other actresses played OTHER characters. Besides, you prove my point. No one will connect with Rachel Dawes death because of the connection to Katie Holmes. It will be laughable. Like you, I prefer batman without a love interest, but Nolan felt her necessity. My suggestion of reshoots seems plausible if this film becomes the masterpiece everyone claims it to be. Is it a minor gripe? Yeah. Will I enjoy the film regardless? You betcha!

Rickey loves you too. Most of all, Rickey loves a kick ass, dark & brooding Batman movie. Dressing up like a bat and fighting crime is a psychotic decision and so far, Nolan's been the perfect guy to bring that to the screen. Even better, somebody said this was the "Empire" of Nolan's Batman series--Rickey's extremely stoked for that idea.

I think the "Batman killed Health" angle is simply untrue. Everyone on set said he was perfectly stable and funny. His death happened four months after his work on the film was finished. Nor do I think his work on Gilliam's film did him in. It was a medication overdose, he should have smarter, yes, but it really isn't anything to make out more than it is.

no, they didn't film them back to back, and there is no release date set. Ledger's death throws a serious kink into the plotting of 3 because all sources say Joker lives thru TDK and the conflict between Two-Face and Joker was really supposed to carry over into the next movie from what Nolan has hinted at. He has also said that he can't think of recasting Joker, so I have no clue how he's going to explain Joker going into hiding or simply stopping... Joker just doesn't do that.

***SERIOUSLY FOLKS, I JUST SAW THE MOVIE LAST NIGHT ON A HUGE IMAX SCREEN AT A SNEAK PEEK IN DOWNTOWN L.A. DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER*** If you guys want to know how The Joker and Two Face die: The Joker wounds Batman badly by shooting him in the shoulder and the foot with an antique tommy gun but Batman disarms the Joker with some kind of elastic military gripping wire and the Joker runs to an armored car where he has Alfred tied up in bubble-wrap and he puts a knife to his throat and threatens to kill him but Batman uses a gadget that Lucius Fox gave him that sends out a piercing high-pitched sound that only crazy people can hear and it fucks the Joker up bad and he grabs his head and starts crawling on the ground but it also effects Batman because they're both insane. Batman turns the gadget off and jumps onto the Joker and they beat the crap out of each other until Batman finally gets the upper hand gets ready to break the Joker's neck when the Joker starts crying like a maniac and convinces Batman's sane side to let him live while Afred is trying to tell him something but his mouth is covered with tape but then the Joker pulls out a pistol and tries to shoot Batman in the head but Batman dodges at almost point-blank range (somehow) and Batman ejects a blade out of his wrist and plundges it into the Joker's throat. The Joker chokes on like a fucking gallon of bubbling, saliva-mixed blood while taunting Batman with half-baked anarchist philosophies and trying to punch him until he dies in Batman's arms. Two-Face is arriving at a mob boss's mansion when Jim Gordon confronts him and tells him that he is under arrest. Two-Face laughs and taunts Gordon and runs into the mansion while he motions to his cronies to fire at Gordon. They spray at Gordon but Gordon runs and ducks behind his car and uses his door for a shield. He shoots and kills one of the thugs but then he runs around the back of the mansion and climbs in through a window and the thugs don't see him because it's so dark outside. Gordon finds Two-Face inside the house after he has strangled a mob boss in his own bathtub. Two-Face is standing over the tub when Gordon is standing outside the bathroom and they have a conversation about justice, corruption and the future of Gotham for about a minute until Gordon realizes that Two-Face will never be the Harvey Dent persuer of true justice he once knew. Two-Face turns around to charge Gordon and Gordon pops off 2 shots hitting Two-Face in the chest. Two-Face falls on top of Gordon and screams right directly in his face. Most of it is inane jibberish but he tries to make a point about the good people of Gotham or something. Two-Face wraps the strangling cord around Gordon's neck and his face turns blue but Gordon is able to shoot one more bullet up through Two-Face's chest, through his jaw, and out of his eye. ***SPOILERS ENDED***

Joker has daddy issues (here's a tissue), cryptic explanation for the chelsea grin, disappearing pencil trick, Dent going after the mob under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, Two Face reveal in a hospital from Gordon's POV, the temporary batcave is under the docks, Rachel doesn't die when she is dropped out the penthouse window, but maybe later on, and the film is linear, no flashbacks. I know casting discussions are annoying, but in this case I am curious. I don't think they will do it myself, the death of an actor is always a much more touchy thing than recasting due to "scheduling conflicts" AKA my "hubby's wacko and says I can't come out of the basement brainwashing center long enough to film it." Preacher's "spoilers" sounds more plausible than Venom's but I question both of their validity. If Joker and/or Two-Face kick the bucket in this movie, I will go nuts. worst mistake ever. And I kinda suspect Two-Face won't be a huge huge presence in the movie (in two-face form)... probably just near the end of the movie... the Richard Grayson bit made me smile and I think I'd love to have that little nugget in the movie, but it sounds... too perfect. I find it so amusing that so many people either call me a plant or a fake with this review. Ive had reviews up before where people just excepted that I had seen the film why not now? Just because Im lucky enough to get to see it doesnt mean Im a plant or telling lies. You ask me a question and Ill answer it although keep in mind I am wary of spoiling it for anyone else.

I remember the bitching when Ledger was cast, some from me as well, but from what little I've seen so far I think it was an inspired choice. The hard thing will be finding an actor that is willing to follow a final performance, or rather a final completed performance. There will be a lot of baggage and room for comparisons there. The character would never truly be your own.

I'm looking forward to it, but my expectations are low because I've been disappointed by superhero movies so many times. I liked BB though. Indy 4 ate cock (no other way to spin it). Iron man was good, not great, not mediocre. But I didn't think it was the second coming. I hope Watchmen is good, thats my favorite comic book, and it could easily end up being the worst movie ever made. But I'm giving it a chance because its never been translated to another medium.

It is only a few scenes. I will say how he gets the scars is done quite well. On an emotional level he becomes Two Face because he has lost his family as he calls it. The scene of Two Face that was revealed on whysoserious is when he starts to go a bit awol and SPOILER SPOLIER SPOILER He does die at the end. You have to put that death in context of what that means for the city and what Batman decides to do at the end of the film to keep the memory of Harvey Dent and what he meant alive. Batman finds Dick and brings him to the make-shift Batcave for his own protection. Batman reveals he's Bruce. Joker and Two-face start some shit, so Batman's like "I gotta go!" and Dick eyes a special RED BATMAN COSTUME that Bruce was tinkering with and says, "Next time, Baby!"

And Stay after the credits, because Sam Neill makes a cameo as Maxwell Lord to recruit Bruce for the Justice League initiative! Then Bruce goes and talks to Amanda Waller at a run down bar and says "I heard you had a little problem!" and Waller goes, "What about YOUR fucking problem!" THAT is the way to make a comic book movie, gentlemen!

So he tracks down Roland Dagget and says he wants his power, and Dagget is like, "but it looks like you've got a little man in you already! the mix could be a clay Aiken-esque abomination! I heard there's one part where Batman tells everyone to flee for their lives, because he's holding a bomb. Then he runs out into the street, but he keeps running in to passersby after passerby. Then he finally gets to dock over the water, but there are DUCKS there!!! He can't throw the bomb there! Then, in the movie's greatest one-liner that people WILL be talking about as they're walking out of the theater, Batman says...get this... "Somedays you just can't get rid of a bomb!" Oh man! That one's going to KILL opening night.

When the building expoldes he is outside but the flame reaches him and he ignites in flames. His double sided coin also gets burned on one side.

Not sure if anyone's responded to your comment, because I've been skipping the spoilers, but the vision of Joker is new for screen but NOT for the comics. Nolan borrowed from the first ever appearances of the Joker in the 30s, before the Comics Code pussification of DC, when violent crime comics were still the thing. Joker was a cold-blooded killer who would mess with the authorities. Read Batman #1, Joker says he's going to kill a certain person at midnight, and he does, despite all the police protection in Gotham. And he does it through tricks, disguises, and sometimes, gas. He does it a few more times before Batman can catch him. So this is the ORIGINAL Joker vision, but through a modern anarchist sensibility.

Uh ... I skimmed it to avoid spoilers, but is it just me or did the reviewer not actually say whether it was worse than, the same as, or better than Batman Begins? So he gave a "review" which was basically a synopsis of the film with no mention of rating, quality, or how much he enjoyed the film. WTF? So why was this posted? Just to spoil the movie for fans who can't resist reading a "review" and don't actually get anything out of it except plot details??? Is it just me on this or what? To all future "reviewers": please state what you liked about the film, what you didn't like about the film, provide a rating, and avoid discussing plot details that have no relation to the actual review. Thanks.

Why the hell would you preface your review with "I will try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible" only to proceed into an 8 paragraph description of what happens in the movie? Did I want to know why Dent decided to call himself Two Face? No. Did I want to know why Batman's in Hong Kong? No. Did I want to know what the "best" moments in the film were? NO! "Heat" comparisons
by Mr. Profit
Jun 25th, 2008
12:31:38 PM
Anyone who has seen "Heat" can make the comparison based on watching the Bank Robbery sequence alone. I went to see "I Am Legend" purposely on IMAX just to see the sequence and when I left the theater I said the same thing. It looked like "Heat". So I don't think the reviewer just stole that line from a magazine. Anyone can see how it looks like "Heat" for themselves.

Your anticipation / experience of the first Burton "Batman" was much the same as my own--only I was around 17 at the time. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the movie at the time, I do agree that it is, put bluntly, "boring." The fact that I've not returned to watch it in like fifteen years is evidence enough of that. I have no urge to see Basinger and Wahl sit in their newspaper office wondering who the Batman is, nor do I care for extended sequences of Bruce Wayne doing little more than brooding. Don't get me wrong--I think Keaton did a GREAT job, and I like the brooding Wayne. But there was TOO much of it and not enough action to offset it.

Actually, Fuck You.

"I don't want to kill you. You complete me." NEW.

To the clown prince of crime, a knife is preferable to a gun, the better to "savor the moment." NEW.

"What doesn't kill you makes you stranger." From the IMAX 6-minutes.

"Hello, beautiful," In the trailer.

He's right when he compares himself to a dog chasing a car: The chase is all. NEW.

Plus, pretty much anyone who doesn't have their head up their own ass knows Peter Travers isn't going to start making up fake reviews at this stage in his career. "I choose chaos," NEW.

"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain." Trailer.

And sorry about the screwed-up formatting.

It seems like I'm seeing more and more praise from the talkbacker internet for Speed Racer and how it was a surprise hit for them. I think I started seeing it around the time Sex and the City hit, as geeks could finally take another week off and catch up on some things like Speed Racer. And I think, "That's nice and all, but where were all you guys on May 9th? How am I supposed to get Speed Racer 2 with After-the-fact praise?" I guess on May 9th two things happened: Geeks went to see Iron Man again because they missed the Sam Jackson cameo the first time and everyone else didn't want to spend the gas money to go back to the theater.

1) King Kong Lives

Shit! Hold on, hold on. Okay, now I've got my bearings. Here we go, here we go. Ok, best movies of the summer thus far:

1) What Happens in Vegas

That's it. That's the only good movie I've seen so far this summer. That's the only movie I've seen this summer. The last movie I saw was...I can't remember. Had a girl riding a horse or something. Anyway, Dark Knight should rule the summer - but only until a better movie comes out. Yes.

Apparently, they cut it all to shit because they didn't want all the drama and talking that Ang Lee's had. Didn't you hear about how Norton got all pissy and wouldn't even promote the movie? That's why. So they are putting all of it on DVD to make him quit whining.

Was Heath like the sun and oxygen to you? So how many times did you jerk off to the fantasy of him face-fucking you? Just because the guy died doesn't make him a great actor. He was pretty good but he certainly wasn't unique. There was never a movie he was in where anybody said "only Heath could have played that role". As for what bothers me on this site: I don't like Harry's 5th-grade-level writing (both content and grammar), his extremely compromised reviews, or the incredibly boring, unsolicited details about his life. And when we just get down to it, is TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION even possible? In addition to being an actual genius, a real playa with the ladies, and with a way cooler pad (and wheels), Iron man actually has a super-powered suit, and which actually flies and with the new vision that Marvel has for their franchises, there's way more to look forward to with IM sequels than for the borefest known as Batman. Search your hearts; you all know this to be true. Speaking of which, I can safely guarantee that this Batman movie will not make anyway near as much as Ironman did (simply because of when DC with all their legendary brilliance decided to position it in terms of it's opening date. Opening a week after Hellboy and 2 weeks after Hancock, can you all say with me "Stolen thunder". That's right; there's no way it's going to be able to pull in enough crowds while competing with those 2 movies (and don't forget Wanted and Wall-E) for the same demographics. Yet another coulda-been blockbuster consigned to ho-um territory. Anyway, go ahead and jump all over my post with your lame responses and alleged insults. Go on, you know you want to.

Rickey agrees with a helluva lot of your sentiments--all this Hollywood talk of a posthumous Oscar for Ledger seems like nothing more than one big circle jerk. But this really does look like a terrific last performance from the guy. Calling his work overrated on a movie no one has yet to see is pushing things a bit too far.

But as for all your other gripes (the lack of comment editing, Harry's general man-child shtick, and the wide variety of sociopathic behavior on display in the comments section) definitely do hold merit.

I don't know how you come up with that. Look at SM3 and Pirates 3. Both of those movies grossed a billion dollars in domestic theaters alone. And that's billion with a "B". Both of them were also turds that were just going on the popularity of the previous movies. A lot of people think that TDK is one of the most anticipated movies of all time. Add that to all the press they have gotten about Ledger's final performance and the people who will now see it only out of morbid curiosity, and I think you'll be surprised at how much money it makes.

Harry's final moments, (which sadly, are going to be sooner rather than later) play out like Dyson's in Terminator 2. Arteries reaching near total occlusion, Harry forces out each and every final breath to hold as long as he can. But finally, the light leaves his eyes, the breaths stop, and his hand slams a detonator for a small thermonuclear device he has attached to the AICN servers. Like that, Austin disappears in a flash. Fortunately, Moriarty has the good sense to hide in an old frigidaire when the bomb goes off, insuring talk back will continue in one form or another...

I believe it was mentioned that it had to do with a death(s), not going to go back to verify. If this is the case I believe that maybe Racheal was pregnant when she jumps in front of the bullet to save Bruce. Bruce of course believes the baby to be Dent's because of their recent relationship yet Alfred knows that the child was indeed Bruce's as Racheal previously confided in him. Therefore Bruce feels responsible for not only his parent's death but also Racheal's and his own son's as well. Greek tragedy indeed.

Check, Harry, check, Harry, 1-2-3-4
Check, Harry, check, Harry, 1-2-3
Check, Harry, check, Harry, 1-2
Check, Harry, check, Harry, 1

It's called rump shaker, the piece is like sweeter than candy
Harry, I'm feelin' manly and you say it's comin' in handy
Slidin' my claws from New York down by N. Virginia
Ticklin' you around Delaware before I enter
Total seduction, from face, hips, to feet
A wiggle and jiggle can make the night complete
Now since you got the body of the year, come and get the award
Here's a hint, it's like a long chop sword
Flip town, so let me see you shake it up like dice
The way you shake your rump is turnin' mighty men to mice
But A+ got a surprise that's a back breaker
Now let me see you shake your rump like a rump shaker, Harry!

to an entire generation. That doesn't really exist anymore though. Keaton, then, Kilmer, then Clooney, and now Bale... why get attached? The closest thing is Kevin Conroy, who to a whole generation is the VOICE of Batman, but even then that's not really the same...

That's a fair comment. And the earlier observations about the revolving Batman door (Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, etc.) are dead-on. Burton's Batman got attention because he did something new with Keaton and Nicholson. Bale doesn't show men anything new and the writing was pedestrian, although I will say the early moments of BB were somewhat interesting. The postings about Michael Bay could be mirrored with "Damn you Joel Schumacher" for taking an interesting franchise and killing it for a new generation of Batman fans.

Audience awareness for TDK
by Colonel Activity
Jun 25th, 2008
04:41:44 PM
is 100%. 81% of males polled June 10-15 said they were going to see it opening weekend, 66% of women. Audience awareness three weeks before The Incredible Hulk was 49% and 36% for Iron Man. The Dark Knight is supposed to challenge last May's Spider-Man 3 opening. This is according to a site that tracks Box Office, The Weekend Gross. Other reasons why it's opening is going to be huge: Ledger's death, people's generally favorable opinion of Batman Begins, and the fact that Iron Man is a really good movie (gives comic book movies more cred). To think that The Dark Knight will perform like The Incredible Hulk or finish fourth in the Box Office is just fucking stupid. The only movie that has a shot at beating TDK is Wall*E. That's it. Deal with it.

I forgot to mention the (likely) fantastic reviews it's going to get or the word of mouth. Once again, 55 million is just plain stupid. If a movie about Iron Man can make 98 million opening weekend, a movie about Batman, which will (probably) receive rave reviews, featuring a Joker whose performance is already creating Oscar-buzz for the deceased actor portraying him, and has been marketed for over a fucking year will make...well, you decide. Since Iron Man outperformed the Hulk, yet had lower audience awareness, than Batman will rake in less. Never mind the superior brand recognition, the superior marketing, the superior cast...no, The Dark Knight will surely drop from its 100% awareness. 81% of those polls will decide that your logic wins out in the end. Or, just maybe, even MORE people will want to see it in the upcoming 3 weeks, as the marketing will really ramp up. Maybe that's what happened with Iron Man. Not sure. ...is the fucking suit. I wish they had found a way to make some practical body armor that doesn't just look like the same black rubber suit from BATMAN '89. I'm all for the real-world concept, but the execution looks like it still isn't there. I love BEGINS and I'm looking forward to TDK, but goddammit - Nolan did nothing to Burton's outfit but get rid of the yellow bat symbol and add a bunch of straps and shit. Otherwise, it's just as awkward looking. And I still don't see why he can't be black and gray. If he needs to "disappear" in the dark, he's got a giant black cape. Oh, well - at least they do away with the "panther neck" cowl in this one. Maybe Bale can turn around without the sides of his mask pushing his face around.

Kinda reminds me of a couple of years ago when Firefly fans kept deluding themselves that Serenity was going to be the new Titanic, in terms of the B.O. gross in was going to make. Or a couple of years ago when another set of deluded DC fans sold themselves on the grand hallucination that Superman Returns would do "Spidey-like numbers" at the Box Office on its opening weekend. Massawyrm actually wanted to challenge me to a fight, when I pointed out just how daft and idiotic that was; even in theory. It's just too bad reality prove me wrong as SR barely sputtered and stumbled to its $200 million "production budget" long after 6 months after its release. And now it looks like it's the turn of the Batman fans to make fools of themselves. This movie will be lucky to even make $50million, much less the $80 that Iron Man did; without competition the likes of Hellboy 2, Hancock, Wanted, Wall-E et al.

$120 Million - My ass. What. A. Bunch. Of. Morons. ROFLMAO. This should be fun.

You're delusional if you think TDK will make less than $80 mil it's opening weekend. As one who works with youth group teens aged 12-21...trust me.

They ALL want to go see it.

It's all over myspace and stuff when you log in. We know that EVERYBODY in the geek community is going to see it, the general public is aware through ads/trailers and unfortunately because of Heath Ledger's passing, it's listed as "most anticipated" on all kinds of mainstream media (EW weekly, MSN movies, etc...)and it will have all the fans who made it break dvd records coming back for more.

85-100 mil opening weekend, easily. 325-350 domestic, 150-225 foreign = 425-575 world wide.

Conservatively. It may well be more.

Now, what other crap did I hear from the whole Serenity bandwagon, - which is being spouted all over again here as well? ......."possibly the biggest opening of the year"....... yeah, we and all know how that worked out for Serenity at the end. Now I'm not saying TDK will be anywhere as abysmal or ludicrous as Serenity was in terms of the hype that the fans fed themselves, but it certainly isn't the Citizen Kane that you nitwits are trying to make it out to be. Here's another one for you guys. If Sex and the City couldn't break $60 Million, then there's no way this movie will either. YES, I just compared TDK to SATC - sounds about right. ...not the movies, but rather the pre-release hype in proportion to the general delusion suffered by each respective set of fans. In both cases you actually have the fans referencing and talking about Titanic like numbers. What does that tell you? Any Studio exec will tell you straight up now that Titanic's success at the B.O. will likely never be replicated thanks to how cost of ticket prices, the way movies are released a nowadays and also the unique nature of Titanic's core demographic. And yet, geniuses here are talking about $160 Million openings, with consecutive $50 Million day takes. In what Universe? And the justification for this? Apparently because Batman Begins "did well" on video. Whatever that means. You'll have to ask Serenity fans about that one as well. Like I said before, the only other time I ever witnessed this general level of delusion (and frankly speaking, moronosity) was prior to Serenity's release and then again prior to Superman Returns release. Both those movies where, objectively speaking, shit sandwiches. One of them likely re-lobotomized a franchise after a 20 year long coma. If Superman, who is a much bigger name and way bigger hero than Batman, and which had a way higher anticipation level than this Batman movie, couldn't pull more than $100 million on its opening weekend, what gives anyone the license to hallucinate on $160 Million openings for a second tier "super" hero?

Batman is far more popular than Superman. In under 20 years, there have been 6 Batman films. Superman? 1 movie. The hype for this film began last spring. The marketing has been ingenius. The positive buzz is overwhelming. Batman Begins did better on video/DVD than in the theater because people didn't know the quality of the film. After a poor initial opening, word of mouth led to 205 million domestic. An opening of 48 million turned into 205? Great word of mouth. The Dark Knight will pull in 120 million.

In my opinion with the talent that is involved with this film and the way they speak about it they will make a great third film. Saying that there is no way of knowing. I think it will be a few years off no matter how much money this makes. They dont set up the third film like they did The Dark Knight with the introduction of The Joker. He is still alive as is the Scarecrow at the end of the film. I imagine that before Heath Ledger died that he and the Scarecrow would have been invloved in some way in the third. There is one character within the film who threatens to reveal Batmas identity but who Bruce saves who could go onto become someone. Infact now that I think about it they could be perhaps setting him up as The Riddler. The franchise is in very capable hands though so fingers crossed we finally get a comic book trilogy that gets better with each one.

......just look at them get all worked up into a frenzy simply because someone dared to point out the obvious to them. I say again:- What. A. Bunch. Of. Losers. It must really reaaaally suck to know that your Batman isn't going to do anywhere near the numbers of a potential suckfest movie like Hancock. (it probably sucks more to be a Batman fan, period, but hey) Yeah, that's right. Will Smith is GUARANTEED to uber-outgross Bale even with a suckfest of a movie in Hancock. That's like getting your ass bitch-slapped by a guy with his hand tied behind his back. So just to re-cap TDK will not be the number one Superhero movie of 2008 (it's still a toss-up between Iron Man and depending on whatever Big Willie can pull in on the 4th of July Weekend); TDK will not be the number 3 superhero movie 2008 (Likely to be Hellboy2), TDK will probably most likely not even be the number FOUR Superhero movie - that's right, it probably will get it's butt handed to it by Incredible Hulk. IF we even consider Indiana Jones a hero of sorts you can go ahead and drop that Batcrap all the way out of the top 5 hero movies of 2008. But that's okay folks, it will do well on DVD and video sales. Rrrrright. Just like Firefly......er...... I mean Serenity, and.....um... Superman Returns. Again I say: I laugh at all your sorry asses. Laugh hard. I mean, I'm really really reaaally trying my utmost to conjure up some sympathy and feel sorry for you losers, but all that comes out is this merciless, uproarious and hearty laugh. You can tell it was a source of inspiration for The Dark Knight. The Joker is far more focused on bringing down Harvey Dent than Gordan though. His motivation is still the same though. I think I could be on to something with The Riddler though. I cant find the actor on IMDB and he has a large enough role to play within the film. He is an employee within Wayne Enterprises who doesnt like Bruce Waynes flamboyant lifestyle and when doing accounts discoverers over spending for Wayne Enterprises and also blue prints for the Batmobile. He threatens to blackmail Bruce for ten million a year. Fox tells him this isnt a good idea. He then goes on national television and says he will reveal who Batman is. Its kinda of simillar to The Riddler's story isnt it? I cant remember the characters name.

Batman Comics these days - any good ?

Been a while since I have read a comic, and a little longer since I have read a Batman comic. So just wondering if they are any good these days.

For me Batman is the most interesting comic book character ever. As a kid always wanted to be Superman, but really he is too powerful, and frankly too perfect, doesnt have the flaws like Batman. Always thought Batman's Rogue gallery was also very impressive and interesting.

Anyone who puts box office numbers over the overall quality and heart put into the making of a film can go suck a fucking diseased cock. I don't care about how much money TDK will make on its opening weekend- we all know it's going to own our asses. My gripe is towards the fake ass bullshit "reviewers" that pipe up to tell us they've seen the movie nearly a full month before it comes out in theatres and expect us to BELIEVE them, when they've given us nothing to even believe them when they've said they've attended a special screening. Fuck you. And as much as it pains me to say it, thank GOD for the Rolling Stone review, at least we know for sure that someone who has ACTUALLY SEEN THE FILM is throwing out their two cents at this point.

I grow weary of your flamebaiting. By calling Batman a "second tier superhero" you have shown your hand. Whether you like it or not, Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman ARE the first tier. If you don't believe it, just go up to a 90 year old man or woman and ask if they've heard of those three characters. Then ask if they know who Wolverine is. There is no character in popular fiction better known than Batman. That sir, is a fact. You sir, are just being foolish due to the anonymity afforded you by the internet. Dark Knight Out.

Does he have a man crush on bats? Thats the first q to make me laugh all day. He has a group of vigilantees which keeps on growing throughout the film. People on the brink of sanity are drawn to him. I wouldnt say he has any friends in the film though. He is an absolute dick. Completly psychotic. You literally have no idea whats coming next as he could do anyhting. The final climax he sets up is just so clever. No man crush on Bats but at the same time he does say you complete me. He knows that without Batman he couldnt have stepped over the edge and he very much likes being there.

i heard from a reliable source that he jabs it into his ear, spurting fake blood everywhere, then it's gone, presumably in his head (but not really cuz it's a magic trick). it shocks and disgusts the mobsters, but joker thinks it's pretty funny. it's kind of like penn & teller's old gag of cupping a half and half creamer in your hand, holding it over your eye, then poking it open with a fork, making it look like you're jabbing your eyes out
MAJOR SPOILERS IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW WHO DIES THEN DONT READ
by frozensnake
Jun 26th, 2008
05:56:51 AM
So if you really want to know who dies, what pisses off Lucious Fox, and if batman still speaks like a chain smoker, read on.......... Batman uses cell phone technology to set up a 'bat sonar' device that uses the people of gotham's mobile phones as a kind of tracking system. Basically he has a huge monitor thing that he can spy on everyone with. Lucious says, as long as it is at Wayne Enterprises, he wont be. Deaths are Rachael, which is a bit of the reason Harvy goes nutso, and then two face dies too, falls off some scaffolding. Gordon has a fake death, and batman takes the wrap for any murders Dent committed to keep Dent as a symbol of hope for the city. Joker is alive at the end, and left hanging upside down waiting for GCPD to take him into custody. Oh, and batman still has the same voice.

You should write a script. Hot on the internetz? Sad whatyoufear , very sad. To answer your question though the pencil trick is something The Joker does when he walks into a room full of the criminals who are all pissed at him for stealing their money and announces "Does anyone want to see a magic trick? Ill make this pencil vanish" and placees it standing up on the desk. One of the criminals charges at The Joker and he forces his head down onto the pencil. It all happens within a few seconds and is just so friggin cool. Oh and PS Yeah that is Alfreds secret. Oh and I believe Im owed a congratulation. I want it only from you. U R A DICK!

Lee Smith, the editor of BB, is editing DK and showed some restrain on "the prestige" I think his action editing is OK and sometimes to quick. It might be a coverage issue, witch is Nolan's fault. Mabye the coverage is sparse and Lee Smith is makeing the most of it??? Anyway it could'a been tighter and with more exhibition. Let's hope for superior editing.

Three cents
by The Octagoner
Jun 26th, 2008
03:18:39 PM
Begins is a good movie. It doesn't reinvent the genre or anything, but it's the first Batman movie that's actually ABOUT Batman, not about The Joker, or the Penguin, or The Riddler, or Robin, or nipples. As far as movies about billionaires who dress up like flying rodents go, it's very good. Burton's Batman is a piece of fetid shit: dull, absent of all logic, with the hyper-annoying Robert Wuhl and Fat Nicholson as the movie's real main character, an undriveable batmobile, a tiny little dude in a sculpted muscle suit that renders him immobile... etc. "But, but," say the felch-sucking queers, "it LOOKS so, so GOTHIC..." Big fucking deal. Tim Burton can't tell a story worth a damn. Even though Ed Wood and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure are good films, for the most part Burton's movies show that he should be an art director, not a film director. Nolan's no cinematic god, but he knows something about storytelling and characterization. The Prestige was awesome, and by all indications TDK is going to ass-to-mouth face-fuck every other movie this summer.

was a great film. Could have been a little more creative with the final action scenes, but overall, this was the best Batman film since Burton's Batman's didn't have great action either. I loved Elfman's themes and Keaton as Batman who pretty much set the standard for playing him in the Batsuit. Everyone pretty much seems to do the same voice, or try to.
