A 'teen' suspenses film that actually was equally fun as it was snarky. I would give it some points for bucking most of the modern slasher trends also if it werent for the formulaic last act.

I'm interested by this pic and reckon this team will do Y: TLM justice if they ever get around to it.

DISTURBIA
by The InSneider
Jun 24th, 2008
09:03:35 PM
First of all, Disturbia has no bearing on whether or not I see Eagle Eye. Disturbia was 2/3's of a great movie. The last act was miserable and it made the movie merely a hair above mediocre. That said, I'm an unabashed Shia fan, even though Indy 4 is the only movie in theaters that I haven't seen (and won't). The kid's got the goods and I think that first Eagle Eye teaser looked amazing. I really can't wait to see Eagle Eye and the my faded memories of the forgettable Disturbia have done nothing to change my anticipation of Caruso's latest.
I liked disturbia... I didn't want to though.

It seems every movie Spielbeg produces or directs today is starring Shia LeBeouf. Why?

I don't get the fascination with the guy. Yeah, his movies do well, but do you really think he was the reason for the success of Transformers or Indian Jones 4? He is a good enough actor, but I don't see him as a leading man who can carry a lot of movies and definitely not an action lead.

I know, I know, he's being watched like an eagle, blah blah. Why all the Shia hating by the way. He's one of the few, young, popular actors who doesn't seem pulled out of a Abercrombie and Fitch ad. The dude can actually act. Disturbia had its moments, but was not only by-the-numbers (especially the last act), but a total Fright Night Rip-off. Anyway, I'll end up Netflixing Eagle Eye. Maybe a matinee.
Gushing reviews not cutting it with the suits so you've resorted
by F-1000
Jun 24th, 2008
10:50:45 PM
Apparently the powers that be (Read: Those who line the pockets of those involved with and/or write for this site.) were unsatisfied with AICN handing out gushing positive reviews of 99.9% of the big studio movies out there. (which is pretty much all AICN reviews anymore btw, studio films. Film a day doesn't count)

It seems as though AICN has been commanded by their studio exec overlords to resort to plugging a movie that none of the staff or freelance writers have even seen!! They must really be desperate to get asses into seats for this movie.

Really? I know I'll go see this movie? The power of AICN compels me? Mr Beaks resorting to a cheap marketing ploy usually reserved for selling preteens dating board games and sugary cereal? Never before have this site's true motives been more transparent.

I suppose it had to be Mr Beaks because he was one few left of this site with a modicum of cred. Not anymore so it seems though, not with me at least.

P.S. - The writer doesn't even sound like Mr. Beaks, I would be surprised if he actually wrote it. Or maybe they got him good and drunk and then dictated the movie to him.

PPPPSSSSSS - The first act of the movie and some change? From some dude's friend? REALLY? I mean, REALLY? So lame, what is next, cousin's boyfriend's sister's mom? Maybe you're saving that one for Sex in the City 2?

Why the Shia hate?
by JimBobCooter
Jun 24th, 2008
10:56:58 PM
For one, he is over-saturated.

Secondly, he is vanilla and has absolutely NO EDGE to him. When I think of the heir to the Indiana Jones franchise... I think of River Phoenix's sequence in Last Crusade. THAT was a kid who filled the screen. Shia is an Average Joe. Which he does well. But he's not someone I look up to or believe that could save the world.

And people say he can really act... but has he really played a role that isn't Shia with a different hair style? Has he even attempted to challenge himself?

And by "Average Joe"

by Staldo
Jun 24th, 2008
11:04:13 PM
The irritating thing about Shia is that he's being shoved down our throats as the next Michael J. Fox, when we all know his "rise from obscurity" is nowhere near as organic or charming. There will be no stories, like Fox's of simultaneously filming a sitcom while shooting some crazy sci-fi comedy during the night from Shia, . Just "I remember when a soft-headed Spielberg an Hollywood In General spontaneously decided I was America's darling and work started flying at me stupid crazy." Only, with a lot more "shits" and "fucks" thrown in there because, you know, that's just how Shia rolls. If he was just some random, jewey-looking young actor instead of being presented as the dramatic equivalent of a boy-band, I might be interested in Eagle Eye. It looked compelling.

The dude's only 21 years old. He has his whole life to challenge himself in better roles. If Bruckheimer offered me millions of dollars at 21 years old to be in a giant, summer blockbuster, I'd damn well take it. And who wouldn't want to be in an Indiana Jones movie? I'd rather have an "average joe" protagonist. As far as "edge" goes. I think he has it, but needs meatier roles. We'll see.

Disturbia promised at least a fun time at the movies and maybe a breakout role for Shia but gave us anything but. There is no real suspense, no real action, no real tension. Well, Shia's name should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Marty McFly. Shia is not even close to being in the same league as the most convincing little-to -averge size leading man. Not just for his age. So live with it, you miserable cunts. Twenty years from now he'll be considered one of the greatest actors in the world - there are hardly any actors in the world who were as natural and quirky on the screen at only 22 years old.

The other week Entetainment Weekly had a whole story about the new "A List" and who was on it. Most of the list was made of up people who just had a hit or two in the last year. Right now I just see Shia Lebouf as a very good young actor, compare him to many other actors his age you'll see the difference, who is being turned into a pop culture product manufactured by the media as opposed to letting the audience decide if he gets to achieve his status. Boy seems to like his cigarettes though. Seriously, chain-smoker is an understatement.

After surviving his formative years in Echo Park, CA (translation GHETTO) to mostly absent parents, self motivated to come up through the grueling kiddie ranks, going on to STAR in TWO major films in the span of one year and being lauded as the Heir Apparent to Tom Hanks by the likes of Mr. S. at the tender age of 21, I for one hope Shia isn't crying himself to sleep at night over the fact that a few no name, bitter, losers have nothing better to do than post e-mails from their mom's basement on how they think he's crap. Based on what? Who deigned ya'll the arbiters of acting acumen? Git'em Shia. Ignore the haters, keep it real and laugh all the way to wherever you want to go.

Saw that trailer and thought to myself, "Even though Spidey 3 was not great, not enough time has passed for another film to rip off it's runaway-crane-through-the-offi ce-windows sequence."
Was expecting a alternate trailer link by now

Basically, this is how it works: The vast majority of people happily enjoy movies like 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' and then happily get on with their lives. However, a small noxious dribble of the population are dreamers who want to get into movies and they're gonna do it, you know, as soon as college is over and they've saved up enough cash man, anyway they hear about these movies long before the movie is screened, and decide to themselves "this is going to suck and I better get home from my shelf-stacking job super fucking quick so that I can power up dad's computer and log onto Aint It Cool News and tell those guys just how fucking shit this movie that I haven't seen is gonna be." Then they get home and log on, only to be confronted with the news that the profoundly talented Shia LaBoeuf is going to be one of the stars of said movie. This news creates a kind of 'meltdown cascade' in the temporal lobes of the pale undersexed wanna-boy, who can no longer contain his fury. What follows is an uninhibited tirade of volcanic proportions as the blubbery Mac-potato jiggles his pasty white manboobs up and down while typing his hatred out like a river of magma, and as the final keystrokes are punched into the keyboard like a nail-gun the bitter never-ran starts to cry as he jizzes his final jealous insults onto the AICN message board like an impotent fountain of raging futility.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Infinitely easier for some to hurl vitriol (a bit like chimps thrown shite from their cages) at success than get off the collective fat arse and DO SOMETHING. Shia's being given these opportunities because he has done and continues to do the work. If the Powers That Be were just going around giving careers away - we'd all be stars.

Just saw in on the Tele. I've been wondering if DJ was ever going to make another good movie after The Salton Sea which I really liked. But that fucking 2 For the Money movie blew and Rear Window 2? But this looks pretty sweet. Fucking september sucks for movies anyway, it would be cool if they released something good.
