this gets. Paul was a worthy winner and generally comes across as a likeable, normal guy you would meet in the street. He deserves his success and fame, which is hard for me to say since im a cynical fuck

However this was no 'lark' - he won £8k in a karaoke in '99, paid for singing lessons with the proceeds and went to Italy and sang in front of pavarotti. He had a variety of roles in theatre productions during the following years, has done pieces with the National Phillharmonic and toured Italy solo.

I hope they do pay attention to these years of graft, or at least acknowledge them, in this movie (which I probably wont see anyway). It really pisses me off in films and tv they pimp the whole 'oh they just walked in off the street fully realized' when in fact years of dedicated training was involved to reach that level. It's important and incidentally makes the reward and end result all the more powerful - and is a good moral message to kids (as opposed to the implied 'hey kids, look - instant fame for no effort')

was a little deceptive. I'd read that he actually sang in front of Pavarotti as well.. Unfortunately being written by the guy who wrote The Bucket List tells me it's going be a shmaltzy rocky rip off with every cliche in the book. I hope not, Potts seems like a really nice guy, but you know they're gonna Hollywood it up, specially with Cowell involved . I still find it kinda amusing that Britain's Got Talent had an opera singer as the winner and the American version produced a Vegas ventriloquist.

...I swear that just the other day I saw an ad for the America has Talent show that shamelessly tried to re-create that moment exactly...there was this giant fat 'gangsta' looking guy who suddenly busts out with a beautiful aria...hell, it was even Nessun Dorma for fuck's sake. I'd like to think that the Paul Pots moment was relatively real (for reality TV anyway), but to shamelessly try to duplicate it for American TV (especially after millions of people saw the original on Youtube) is shamelessly asinine...

it very well when he said that over two you get a lot of dross, britains got talent, no it doesnt, but occassionally you will find someone who is really talented. some talkbackers think that all you have to do is turn up on a hollywood set, grab a directors chair and a megaphone and shout action. there is a terrific book called whats my motivation, my life as an actor. cant remember the name of the guy who wrote it. He knew Ralph fiennes. They are old friends. Fiennes first role on stage was the back end of a cow in a pantomine or something. You will do anything as an actor. especially a struggling one. Life isnt easy. there is a lot of stuggle involved. Leona lewis might be bland, but with out x-factor, i doubt she would never have got the break she got and guess who is doing the bond theme for quatum of solace. sure aint amy winebarbrawler. they choose leona lewis instead. For every Leona Lewis and paul pots, there is a tabby, steve brookstein andy abraham. Heard of tabby the sligo rocker. He had a massive row with Ozzie's wife and has not been since. niether has brookstein and as for abraham, well he will have eurovision failure around his neck for the rest of his life.
Also, Paul Potts is a gateway drug....

Cowell's name may not be on the credits but that doesn't mean he had nothing to do with the movie. He was probably the driving force behind the film, cashed his cheque, then had his name taken off the credits. "If it's successful I'll take the cash and credit; if it's awful, give someone else the credit (blame) but I'll still take the cash".

thought I would mention it. Blue peter went behind the scenes for RTD's last ever Dr ep called Journeys end (july 5th BBC one) and it looks spectacaular. one of the presenters has a small as a dalek. among the actors who were involved in scene where it seems the entire british population were rounded up(we saw a glimpse of this in the trailer after Turn Left) I saw noel Clarke and Camille Coudhri , rose tyler's mum and Elizabeth Slevin who plays sarah jane. They didnt give anything away. But it looks like this is going to be one hell of an ending for russell T davies.
WHY I LIKE COWELL
by g-ride9000
Jun 24th, 2008
11:43:14 AM
I think the social depravity that exists today in entertainment is terrible. Every last joker and their mother want to be famous. Cowell, being a person that can turn out top performers that make money, knows what it takes. THe 1000s of wanna-be stars he deals with only makes him angry. He says what needs to be said to these kids that should be concentrating on being young and having fun. His tone and candor offer strict guidance to those he considers talented, and crushes the wanna-bes back to Boise. You tell em' Simon!

ps this moive looks like a pile of dog shit

You can't kill a kid in a Superman movie?
by NoahTall
Jun 24th, 2008
12:40:55 PM
Actually you can and they have. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the right cut of the film any more although I saw it multiple times on broadcast television.

In Superman 2 there is a scene near the beginning in the small town where the "Please mr general, put my father down" kid goes galloping off on a horse. As he gets out of sight Non throws the police car light in that direction, and there is a large explosion just over the hill. Some woman screams "He was just a boy!" and Ursa replies "Now he will never be a man."

So yes, you can kill a kid in a superman movie.

the arrival of tv3(and the soon to be tv3 owned Channel 6)has forced rte to up its game considerably. English class was horrible. The arrival of Irelands first free to air Film channel will have an affect all of which is very good. competition is a very good thing. But in radio terms all stations in dublin at least sound the same. I choose Wozzy and Graham over pat the plank. Crime Call is hilarious. Seven Ages is the finest modern Doc rte has ever done and cant wait to see The 4 part doc about bertie. The one about Haughey was really great tv. When to Current affairs and sports punditry are Unrivalled(the apres match sketch recently with Gary Cooke as Dunphy and David MacWilliams was one of the funniest things I have seen in years) and Rte can be proud of one thing Prime time Investigates really is the best thing they have ever done. and I hope they keep making more. Lastly, rte passed on Cecelia Aherns Tv program sayine it was not oustanding. They gave us the english class and high society. Two of the worst programms of the year.
