This series is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine - much like Gilmore Girls, pork pies, and evil slutty women - so I'm looking forward to this new slice of furiousism quite a bit. Justin Lin did a pretty solid job on the third one, I reckon, and my only real disappointment with this new one is we don't appear to be getting Lucas Black back again. That is a shame.

I really like the 1st and 3rd films. For some reason I only watched the 2nd one once. I didnt dislike it. Had fun but not as much fun as the 1st and 3rd. Thanks to whoever for breathing fresh air in the franchise by having drifting in it, not to mention Lucas Black solid direction by Justin Lin and of course Sonny Chiba!

I'm worried about you, mate. I know you won't answer me, but I am reaching out to you as a compassionate human being to express my concern for your mental well-being. Sure, I can sort of respect your commitment to damning Michael Bay via the innernet tubes, but I am worried that you have become so compelled to post the same message in every AICN talkback that you have damaged your psyche in some way. Please remember that your psyche is a precious thing - you only get one, so don't throw it away with this bizarre OCD-like obsession you have nurtured.

I want the best for you, MCMLXXVI. I want you to be well. And let's face it, if there is such a thing as damnation, we can be pretty sure Michael Bay will receive it shortly after the cocaine-induced myocardial infarction he will one day suffer in the silk-sheeted bed of a hooker half his age. So why don't you let nature take its course and put this damning business to rest?

All the best.

Your friend,

Frank.

I don't hate MCMLXXVI. I am worried about him. I picture the guy huddled red-eyed over a PC in his bedroom, rocking back and forth, his skin yellowing from the lack of sunlight as he stays firmly in place awaiting the newest articles on which he can post his mantra.

They had some actual stunts. It wasn't as if they were hitting the NOS injectors every 10 minutes. And the fact in F&F 1, the speedometers really didn't go above 120 in a line wasn't impressive. I pro-streeted a camaro that would do 165 before mods. Anyn stock WRX can do better than 120.

because of Lucas Black and the Tokyo setting. But I still say 2 Fast 2 Furious doesn't get enough credit for its sheer ridiculousness. I mean, right at the beginning you see the Universal logo get covered in chrome and bounce up and down on hydraulics! Then there's the girl in the pink car, Ludacris giving them "surprises" like making them jump a bridge and the video game style "go do this, now go do this" structure to the story. I don't know, I am on the damning Michael Bay side, so I understand hating moronic movies, but for some reason 2 Fast 2 Furious's complete commitment to stupidity is entertaining to me.

...4 words? Seriously. What if its some form of mutant Tourette's syndrome and he can only say the phrase "Damn you, Michael Bay" in different inflections. For example, MCMLXXVI goes to Publix and wants a Boar's Head Ultimate sandwich. The lady behind the deli counter asks, "What kind of cheese?". And MCMLXXVI goes, "Damn you Michael Bay?" and the lady goes, "Oh, we're out of provolone. How 'bout Swiss?" And MCMLXXVI goes, "Damn you, Michael Bay." and she proceeds to layer on the Swiss. See? Like the word "Dude" which is chameleon-like in its ability to convey numerous emotions just by different vocal inflections, maybe that phrase is as well? Perhaps MCMLXXVI is on a level we cannot even begin to perceive, much less understand.

Eight Below was a cute movie and did just fine at the box office, albeit probably more on the back of the pooches. I actually WANT Vin to have a hit so he and David Twohy can regian enough clout to complete the Riddick trilogy. Seriously. Pitch Black was fantastic, and Chronicles, while flawed, did at least have that awesome escape sequence on the prison world, where Vin and his gang have to outrun the dawn or they're literally toast. I'd rather have Riddick 3 to look forward to than F&F 4,5,6 etc...
Tokyo Drift is the least exciting
by AlwaysThere
Jun 24th, 2008
02:19:33 PM
because of Lucas Black and the Tokyo setting. 2 Fast, 2 Furious is completely forgettable. And Point Break, err, The Fast and The Furious is the most exciting because how well we were introduced to that culture. Vin and Walker are good together, the story, though predictable, still keeps you engaged, and it's well paced. Tokyo Drift sucked because of the awkward lead actor, the badly, really badly handled fish out of water storyline. Sung Kang has a lot of charm and charisma, but he couldn't save those scenes because the dialogue sucked and he had to act against Lucas Black. Oh and, Eva Mendez > Jordanna Brewster > Nathalie (Razor Blade commercials) Kelley

Why didn't they use that title...? That's what I expected after "2 Fast"'s level of title capability... I'm pretty surprised Diesel came back to this franchise -- a sign that his career really hasn't taken off the way he probably wanted it to. I've always had mixed feelings on Ol' Vin. I enjoyed the first Fast & Furious purely on its adrenaline level. The second or third don't interest me without him in them. I actually like Pitch Black AND Chronicles of Riddick, so sue me. But the rest of his output...I have no interest in...

In this outing, Vin Diesel signed on to stop collecting unemployment. Paul Walker was homeless altogeather. In this futuristic romp, they let the NOS pressure go with the latest Japanese subcompact sport hovercars.

I have nothing to say about the fast and furious movies...just not my thing I guess. I respect MCM because unlike all the whiny babies on here that bitch about their childhood being raped until the next thing comes out and they forget all about it, MCM is sticking to it, and God bless him for it. He means business.

It gets a modicum of love for giving you all a chance to flex your funny muscle. You guys know damn well you would be miserable if every film made was a gem. I couldn't care less about this thing, but I read the Talkback and try no to do spit takes.

I saw F&F in a Florida "Suds and cinema" theater. The movie cost me $3.50 to see. I got to sit at a table, and was served lowenbrau draught with one of those really poofy pretzels and mustard. I expected silly summer fun, and actually enjoyed it in that setting. I highly recommend seeing some of the questionable movies in this fashion.

Why is dropping of the "the" article considered a different title....unless they are going for Fast and Furious a la "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" or "Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid" which case I guess that Paul Walker is Fast and Vin Diesel is Furious? Anyone?

Lionsgate decided to release JOHN RAMBO as simply...RAMBO...(hmmm, where have we heard that before??) and no one gave a shit, so Universal probably figures the same about this film's target audience...(SIGH...)

What will they call the inevitable REBOOT that will happen in, oh, ten years time...perhaps five?? FAST AND FUCK YOU WE HAVE YOUR MONEY FIVE ?? (In fact that's about the only thing "memorable" about "Incredible" Hulk -- Marvel's balls to completely shaft Ang Lee's version only five years later)
Yeah Murdoch I liked Incredible Hulk but

I felt like they could have kept the same origin that was established in Hulk. That was a good origin movie...and this movie coulda just gone off of that one. It ended with Banner hiding in the jungle anyway. Makes sense he woulda eventually got down to Brazil. Sure the direction style would be radically different but that has been done before in other film series. I think that they coulda just omitted that origin sequence at the beginning which was like the TV series version and just played this one off as a sequel and it woulda worked

As is one little sequence in the opening credits jacked that up and jacked up Ang Lee's whole movie as invalid...I cry foul!

Otherwise I dug Incredible Hulk as the logical continuation of the story and Hulk ...well...smashing.

..was it just me

I can't be anything else except facetious. I am actually sick of the whole argument. I am especially sick of idiots that continually derail a talk back by somehow injecting a totally unrelated reference to the hulk controversy. "IJAM" "It's just a movie"

Uhm, okay. I don't really understand what you're saying. What argument? What controversy? I think I missed something. Anyway, I thought you made a joke. The new Hulk actually hit someone with his fist and threw a rock at God, so I think he's much angrier. Are we arguing? I'm sorry?

It had a better origin story, was more like the tv show, and best of all, it allows us to forget the Ang Lee movie completely. If it was a continuation, then people who suffered through the Ang Lee version would have been reminded of it, and people who are new to the series would have watched it. Yes it was that bad. That movie ruined the reputation of Nick Nolte- remember when he was arrested for driving drunk and his mugshot looked like he had turned into a hobo? That's because he was filming that stupid movie at the time. The movie is cursed I tell you.

are faster than hell. I remember being at the racetrack in the late 80's and seeing one of them lay a serious beating on practically anything that it ran against, including a big block Chevelle. All it had was the stock 3.8 liter, a modified chip and some exhaust tweaks. That thing was freaking evil.

The GN was about 245hp stock, it could seat 5 comfortably and still get into the low/mid 14's in the 1/4. Simple mods, external to the engine could net 12 second 1/4 miles, without NOS. The GNX, a $30K big brother was 300hp, and did 13's stock, and could be tweaked for 11's. Great car in it's day, and it was rev-limited so it didn't totally roast the vette of the day.
