I've seen the trailers, and well, this movie actually looks fun. But I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the sequel. It was completely over-the-top but it felt like one of those crazy theme park rides. I'm not sure how this one will play out but the trailers look promising. To be honest, it's probably the last film on my "must see" list for this summer.

What the heck does THAT mean? You make it sound like there's been a zillion sequels and none have lived up to the original. For crying out loud, there's only been two movies -- THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS. So by saying "it hasn't been fun since the original", you're admitting that you LIKED the first one -- which means the movies are batting .500 for you. So why not give this one a try? Ahhh, to each their own. Personally, I thought the trailer looked fun especially when they broke out the Yetis -- that sold me on the spot. THAT'S what a fun, doofy, summer popcorn movie to get out of the summer heat is all about, Baby! And for all the bitching that usually comes out where someone just feels compelled to yell, "But it looks like bad CGI! Bad CGI!", I thought things in the trailer looked okay enough to warrant seeing this on the big screen. Another reason I'll check it out: my favorite movie of the summer so far has been SPEED RACER, the only other movie whose trailer made me think "Hey, you know, that looks kind of fun"...and it was.

I always thought a better idea for the mummy sequel would have been to have Fraser fighting another type of monster, like the wolfman or some shit. Rather than crowbarring in a way for imhotep to return. Kinda like this I suppose. Okay, the review is fine. I don't think it's a plant. Sounds par for the course for a Mummy movie.If it tones down the video game feel of the second, it has a good chance of being a fun time. But, heres my question regarding the review. The writer says that the movie was harder to understand at places, and this might have been because of subtitles. Now, if he can't read english, that would something. And I understand potentially thinking that the subtitled translation from chinese to english might be off(unlikely since this was always supposed to be an english speaking film) but confusion over whether the Yeti subtitles were accurately representing the Yeti speech? As if the directors might have accidentally mis-represented what the Yetis were saying. Can't wait to point out the inconsistencies in the theater. You see where it reads, "Noble Rick, we will help you on your quest". What that yeti is really saying is "Leave now or we will piss yellow icicles all over the one who looks like George of the Jungle."

in arguing over this film? I am pretty sure the Mummy’s are movies you either enjoy or don't care for. I don't think anyone puts either of them in there top ten. So who cares if they replaced Alfred Newmans sister, this is George of the Jungles movie. If anything be upset they recast the mummy guy with someone other then Bruce Payne. But it sounds/looks like they decided to do something different rather then deal with the same mummy played by a different actor. If anyone is saying, OH I'm not seeing this because Mrs. Aronofsky is not in it, then they weren't going to see the movie in the first place. I mean all she did in the first two Mummy’s was stand there while Fraser ran around like a mad man, with a dumb grin on her face begging for me to score some extra points through those uprights.

But unlike Indy, I want over the top in the Mummy movies and Rob Cohen movies are meant to be seen on the big screen (and only once). I was hoping for the same thing after the first one. I really enjoyed that one, and I wanted Rick to work his way through all the old classic monsters. Werewolves, vampires, creatures from black lagoons. Why recycle the same bad guy, same plot, with some reincarnation shit shoe-horned in to make it try to fit. Part 2 had some fun moments, but not enough. Part 3 looks like we might be on track to get a little of what we want. Yetis and dragons are better than just more mummies.

Well, I only saw Mummy Returns once and I don't remember much about the movie. In fact, I forgot it had a kid in it. I can only remember my reaction walking out of it which was, "Boy that movie really sucked." But when comparing that reaction to the one I had walking out of Crystal Skull, "Wow, that dogshit was excruciatingly bad" then I figured the Mummy Returns was better. Dubbing is a fascinating process, a meticulous process by which the sound effects (tens of thousands of them), the music, and the dialog are balanced together to create the sound tapestry of the movie. If it's done well, the mix will deliver the excitement of the effects, clarity to the dialog, and the cohesion of the music--but all these elements have to share a common space in your local theater, even in 5.1 and that's the trick, to choreograph the three elements for maximum effect. Of course, that is a matter of taste. Some directors favor a vivid, almost naked sound effects and dialog approach ("No Country for Old Men"); other like to let the music dominate (like Terry Malick's film "Days of Heaven"). In the first two "Mummy" movies, Stephen Sommers did an excellent dub, balancing everything for maximum effect that made those movies extremely vivid. I want to deliver no less to you. If there's a God in heaven (which there isn't) they won't film the Darabont script. As much as I disliked the Koepp script, that Darabont script was worse. The snake eating Indy, FOUR waterfalls, the shitty villains that were actually worse than the shitty villains in KotCS, Indy swinging from vines, drunken Indy stealing idols, drunken Indy instantly becoming sober Indy and dialogue known to cause cancer in lab rats. I'm not shy about my dislike for Indy 4. In fact, good luck finding one guy on any TB that will disparage it to the extent I will. But that Darabont script? If I was on the toilet and the only two things within reach were the Darabont script and a sheet of sandpaper.......my arse would be bleeding from the grain.

Well, I wish I could congratulate you for admitting I was right - but you PAID to see Indy 4 even though it was clear it was going to suck - so I'm afraid you made your bed etc.....In the end the only advice I can give you is: don't go to see the Mutt Williams movies; don't go to see the next Star Wars movies. But you will anyway, won't you? You should check out The Diving Bell and The Butterfly. Totally different genre, I know - but amazing all the same. Think it might have won an Oscar... Alternatively, you could read the Darabont draft of Indy 4. It's far from perfect, I admit, but it definitely looks better than what they ended up shooting.

While good, I didn't think it was anything amazing. It was amazing how you kind of got a glimpse into what its like to be like that. But there were WAY to many slow parts and and not enough explaining. Pretty much half of the movie was the guy in the bed. Good movie and all, but you needed to know more of the story to know what happened. As for Krystal Skull, all I needed was one line saying. "Indie look the skull makes all those around it invincible!" then I can understand how 68 year old John Hurt can survive multiple water fall drops.

the difference simply is that we have no real way of checking quaity before we go. We have other people's opinions. But that's it. I prefer (with a few exceptions) to reserve judgement until I actually see something. I don't regret spending the money- but I wouldn't see it again. If it had been great I probably would have before it's run finished. So you can smugly proclaim "If you pay for it, you deserve what you get" but there is no way of being 100% certain of what we'll get. Especially with Indy, where the reviews beforehand from critics were mixed.

Well, I agree with you, Lost Jarv. After MONTHS of campaigning against the movie; having GIVEN up on it YEARS AGO due to what was being reported; having REFUSED to see the movie - despite the harranging I received from the blindfolded legions on this site, I would indeed be WORSE than the Lucas-sheep who ignored the signs over the last ten years. But, as I've said many times, I stopped giving my money to Lucas after Attack Of The Clones. And yes, I WAS STUPID to pay to see that movie after the evidence of TPM. But in my defence, I DID get out of the loop. But I was saying EXACTLY the same things about Indy 4 BEFORE it came out as I am saying NOW. If anything, I was condemning it in FAR STRONGER terms and in MORE DETAIL BEFORE it came out. I'm actually a good deal quieter now, because there's nothing more I can do. The damage is done, despite my best efforts. I never NEEDED to see this movie to know that it was doomed. Do I really have to go over the years' worth of evidence AGAIN, having already done so umpteen times in the last six months...? Of course, by now I pretty much know most of what went down in the movie, having heard disappointed/enraged fanboys screaming about it on these boards. Plus I've heard the reports from disappointed friends and colleagues. To which I keep saying, "I know, I KNOW!" Of course I know. I knew all along and I told you so. Is there even any doubt? The gothic horror characters dont lend themselves well to this style of filmmaking. But the first Mummy with Fraiser entertained me in a Raiders of the Lost Ark kinda way. At the time I thought it was filling a gap left open by the absence of Indy from the cinemas. Now this year, we get Indy and an imitator. History will judge which is the better sequel...

Dannyglovers, just pillow talk and myself had dissected the differences between the practical physics defying effects in Raiders, Doom and Crusade and the CGI physics defying crapfests in Skull to no end in other TBs, notably the one that had to do with fan reaction. There is a huge difference, it has nothing to do with the age of the viewer and anyone who can't see that deserves to declared legally blind. I have a friend who raises guide dogs. Is hilarious. Hilarious in the same way Batman & Robin, Wild Wild West, and Van Helsing are hilarious. They're all so mind-bogglingly silly that whenever I catch one of them on TV, I almost have to watch. Truly bat-shit insane movies that just explode with ridiculous dialogue, action, special effects, acting, etc, all the while clocking in at around 2 hours. This is in contrast to films like the Pirates sequels, which were also bat-shit insane but took themselves so seriously, were so joyless, plodding and bloated that they just implode. Hence The Mummy Returns, Batman & Robin, Wild Wild West, and Van Helsing are hilarious train wrecks and the Pirates sequels are just bloated, masturbatory compilations of "what the fuck?" moments.

This movie has absolutely no "buzz" anyway. Nonexistent on the cultural radar. Looks fun to me, they've got my ticket. First two don't really do anything for me, but I'll see anything with Michelle Yeoh... Universal flipped this with Hellboy 2 in terms of release dates, probably because they ended up spending more $$$$$ on The Mummy, and didn't want it tasered, ass-cracked, and shat upon by THE DARK KNIGHT ONE WEEK LATER. Sucks for Del toro, but he's got The Hobbit, so who cares... I'm literally so surprised we even got a second Hellboy movie...

The effects were crappy in the earlier Mummy because the effects were crappy. They stretched the available technology too far. Not to mention the story BLEW! I loved how he skipped right by the absence of Rachel Weisz. Sorry, that's a HUGE issue for me with this film. I'm sure I'll see it because I'm a fan of the first movie, but if the new Indy is any indication of what happens when you try to recapture the past fun, we're all in for a sad journey down memory lane.

And the fridge somehow wasn't vaporized and spinning at a velocity so fast that it would have killed Dr. Jones in a heartbeat and he was able to bust out of it without the fridge having melted at all, I was like "BULLSHIT!!" On top of that, wouldn't Indy be off the meter chock full of radiation or radiation poisoning? Good movie but I think they went overboard with that bit. Maybe if the fridge didn't spin like a fucking tornado, my suspension of disbelief would have stayed intact for that scene.
